Taking a trip with infants

We are taking our soon to be 5 year old to KI for his birthday on July 1. He's been talking about it all month. In addition to older children, there will be at least 2 infants- our little one (6 months) and our niece, who'll be 2 months at the time of the trip.

I know admission is free. My concerns are bringing in all their stuff: Christian is on formula, and Breanna is breast fed. I know there is a strict no outside drink policy (my husband bought a $3 Vault when were in the gold pass processing line and had to toss it at the security gate... he was miffed) but for us, I'll have to bring bottles and formula, and a container of OUR water (babies get sick if you change water on them). I'm just curious at what kind of ordeal I could get into on that day.. and I want to make it as fun as possible for Joe (the birthday boy). Have any of you taken bottle fed infants or seen the check in process? Any info would be helpful!

And, are the railroad and carousel the only rides babies are allowed on?

Thanks!

Although there is a strict rule about outside food and beverages, I'm sure that brining in things for infants won't be an issue. Before you go, I'd call 1-800-288-0808, which is KI's GR number. There you can ask them what kind of accommodations they have for any special needs the infants might have.

If you go to the water park you could ride the lazy river with your infant. I was at the waterpark today and their was a mother riding the lazy river with her baby.

You might also be able to ride La Adventura de Azul (a Dora the Explorer themed train ride) and the Lazytown Sportacopters with your baby. Both of these rides are located in the Nick Universe area of the park which is where I assume you'll be spending most of your day.

Riding the Lazy River with your baby, that doesn't seem very safe to me. I assume she was holding the baby on her stomach/chest while on the raft. But what would have happened if the raft fipped over. I don't think that is a very good idea.

Like Boddah said, calling the KI GR office will certainly give you all the answers you need and im sure the park is more than willing to help you and your young ones be accomidated. However with all due respect, and this is just an honest question, wouldn't it be much easier and less stressful to maybe get a sitter or a relative to watch the infants while you take your son to celebrate his brithday? I just think that might free up some stress and time.

I hope your son has a great birthday, happy 5th birthday Joe from all of us here at KICentral!

I have seen numerous strollers going through security with diaper bags and snacks for little ones and they have never said one word to them about it. I don't think anyone would stop you from going through with formula and water for them. I bring a bottle of water with me almost every time I go and they have never stopped me or made me throw it away. I think maybe the person who made your husband throw his pop away was just having a bad day!

You shouldn't have any problem at all...they let Juicy Juices in, so water & milk should be even easier. Also, remember the baby changing station near Lil' Bill's coaster...it is a lot better than the bathrooms...and if it's a hot day Festhaus is a great way to beat the heat plus it's darker in there for "nap time".

Have fun!

Several years back we had no problem taking in baby formula into Kings Island.

As for partaking in attractions, there really are only a few things that you will feel comfortable doing with an infant and parents just have that instinct for what they feel comfortable with as you already know. We took my 16 year old son with his friend to Kings Island while my daughter was only 2 months old. Have a great time.

Thanks for all the good advice everyone. I do plan on calling the park beforehand so I am all up on the baby rules.

I can't swim, and in no way would I ever take Christian on a water ride.

As for the babysitter idea, my MIL is going with us. She will be taking care of the babies so that the mommies and daddies can ride stuff, too.

I think glass bottles are the only problem for obvious reasons...little feet could get cut on them

Well if it was me, and if I bought a drink while waiting in the Season Pass processing line and they made me toss it at the metal detectors, I would have been upset. If that's the case, they shouldn't even have those machines over there.

When I brought my kids there a few years back, and they were infants, we had no issues bringing anything into the park.

It was all in the diaper bag or in the stroller basket, security hardly looked at the items. And if the park would not allow things like that to be brought in, I could only imagine the lawsuit and bad press the park would get.

And for the whole Vault discussion, that is really terrible. How can the park stop someone from entering, when the item was bought on park property? Sealed or unsealed, it should not make a difference. The park made money from the purchase didn't they? If it was their intention to not allow guests to bring in the drinks, there should be some type of signage declaring the rules, or even better, get rid of the machines all together. What a great way to treat your guests before they even enter the park!

deb,

You can feel free to call the park, but you will have no problems taking any of the stuff you need into the park. We have taken our baby into the park many times bringing water, formula, and diaper bags etc. They looked through our stuff just to be safe but it was done rather quickly and we also have to bring my middle childs nebulizer for her asthma. Some food shops etc. will even let you use their outlets for things like my daughters nebulizer. I am miffed about them making your husband throw out the Vault because I don't see how they would know if he bought it from the park or not. Regardless I think you will be fine.

As for rides, I would imagine the carousel, train, Eifel Tower, and some of the mild kid rides in Nick that parents can ride with the kids would be your limits. The best thing of all is you will have a great time with the entire family, and I think it is great you are bringing the infants with you so you can enjoy it as an entire family. Happy Birthday to Joe!
