Da Wolverine
Just reading the story maid me grimace. Do you think this will effect Drop Zone??
The Interpreter
It all depends on what happened and how...
shadow2k3
Good lord, what has happened to Six Flags' Safety Standards lately? Just sickening. -S
The Interpreter
It's too early to make judgments on that. Also, early media reports may or may not be correct. If this happened as reported, I look for major changes on drop rides everywhere...I can't even imagine how this could have happened.
art_star
the cable snapped (according to the video on WLKY's website). Drop Zone doesn't use the same kind of cable system that Kentucky Kingdom uses, but who knows how this will effect things.
Guest faceoff
This is very sad news and i hope the girl will be okay and feet are able to be re-attached and be walking after proper treatment and re-hab. How long does everybody think it will be before her parents hire a attorney and start a lawsuit? I bet not very long.
The Interpreter
I'm always stunned that people see something wrong with that....if this happened to you, you don't think you would be seeking appropriate compensation? The fact of the matter is, if this happened, someone didn't do something they were supposed to. Who remains to be seen.
PKIDelirium
Based on the webcam it would seem Drop Zone is down. It didn't move for ten minutes and now the catchcar is parked at the top.

The Interpreter
and rightly so. If there is a problem with INTAMIN drop rides, they will all close until inspected and cleared of the problem. Or it could be just a coincidence....
art_star
Well, let's hope that this was clearly a coincidence, but if not, I agree that it is good that DZ and all other drop rides close until investigations are complete and everything is alright in the world again. mudvayneimn
I didn't see anything gruesome in the video, unless you are referring to the accident in general. This is so terrible, I just don't understand what happened, and to think about the people that had witness this. There must be many like the woman at the end of the WLKY story. flightoffear1996
Isn't that ride an S&S power tower?
neo8820
I too am very interested in knowing how this happened. Some of the videos on local news stations show people working around car three which faces the waterpark. The piece of blue hardware that attaches to the cable and lifts the car up can be seen clearly in the video for cars 2-4 at the top of the tower. The side of the tower with cars 1 and 5 cannot be seen. If my memory serves me right there is only one cable attached to the blue piece of hardware. One would assume from these observations that the cable did not snap or atleast did not snap completely. What are everyone thoughts?
The Interpreter
Isn't that ride an S&S power tower? No, it is an INTAMIN Giant Drop.
neo8820
Isn't that ride an S&S power tower? No it's an Intamin AG Drop Tower. If my memory serves me correctly it was one of the first free fall Drop Towers and I believe it is a prototype.
The Interpreter
Correct, it was a prototype. It was, in fact, the first of its type.
neo8820
Another interesting fact is they NEVER that I have seen run all 5 cars at the same time. Anyone have any idea why?
KIfan73
That is absolutely horrible. My prayers go out to that girl.
The Interpreter
I believe the reason why SFKK's Hellevator never ran all five sides at the same time is the same reason why TRTR never used all of its seats. It doesn't function properly with all sides operating.
