  1. ...the water main that serves the park breaks, and they cannot serve their free soda? They do this: http://www.themeparkfoodie.net/post/25404757863/holidayworldboilorder All I can say is: WOW. The Koch Family truly goes above and beyond to provide great service, and it shows. (Wonder what would happen if the same thing happened at Kings Island, Cedar Point, a Six Flags, Busch, Disney, etc etc...)

  2. But the idea of purposefully abandoning theme in favor of generic amusement park atmosphere is the problem many of us had with Boomerang Bay becoming Soak City. The switch makes sense from a branding point of view in that particular example, but if you'd suggest doing the same thing to the theme park side, the question would have to be asked: why consciously, purposefully de-brand? Why intentionally remove props and facades just to make the place more generic? In other words, stop calling it "Oktoberfest" if you must and stop labeling it as that on the map if you think it would "help," but should we change the Festhaus' facade to a "soundstage" look like the Action Zone side? What reason is there to consciously remove the themed elements that are left in favor of a generic replacement? Theme doesn't have to be the company's specialty, but that doesn't mean it should be actively campaigned against.

  4. Here's a far fetched idea. If we must remove SOB but could leave portions of it partially destroyed the area could be a Disaster Zone. Move Delirium to where it appears to have busted into a portion of the ride. Add a Skyrush like coaster weaving in and out of the debris. Add a woody that would run along parts of SOB to where it appeared that you were about to go on some of the broken parts of SOB. A few flats should be added as well but not sure as to what those should be in current thought. Have this new area tie into X-Base, the theme could be a tie into it and Dinosaurs Alive. The military base is trying to rescue those from the Disaster Zone while keeping out the Dino's (thinking Terra-Nova here). In the added Action Zone area add a Luminosity-ish show.

  5. Maybe if they were heavily sponsored (like the "Sohio" signs on the trams in the late 70's), or some kind of green-energy concept vehicles in need of some good, public exposure, they might return. Who knows? It's at least plausible.

  6. I think that having something like the trams would be great to have again, especially from a customer service perspective. It seems like it would help give the impression of "we're glad you're at the park", instead of "here's our park, and don't be afraid to throw plenty of money around!" (possibly by doing the first thing, the second thing may actually happen with even more frequency).

  7. I would go with some sort of extension of Oktoberfest, with a assortment of rides. Rides: Black Forest's Phantom: a wooden rollercoaster that goes into the heart of the forest, with pines and caves to go near and at times through. Der Kegs: a flat ride, with "kegs" spinning by hand pushing Alpine Blitzkrieg: a alpine slide, on a "mountain" filled with snowy caves, and lush rivers flowing down the alps. Restaurants: Hofbrauhaus: German cuisine, festive music, & bier garten seating available. Red Riding hoods goodies: a pretzel shop Stores: Berlin's market: German themed goods, clothing, gifts, and toys!

  8. Good theming to me is something that makes you feel like you've walked into a whole new world and not just an amusement park. Take places like Busch Gardens, Universal, and Disney for an example. Or even Kings Island in it's earlier years. I tend to have a lot more fun at parks with great theming, good shows, and family friendly experiences than I do at parks with just tall coasters and concrete. (One reason why I don't want a giga coaster at Kings Island.) I love going to parks with a lot of coasters, but I'd still take a nicely themed ride over a tall, fast ride placed in a parking lot.

  9. So you wanted to see the Theater did ya? While I enjoy the competition you can have with friends on Scooby Doo/Boo Blasters, neither attraction is on the same caliber as Phantom Theater. When I look at the queue area in this video and see the Maestro playing the organ and turning around to taunt guests, it's sad knowing that that has since been replaced with flat, cardboard cut out ghosts that move side to side or up and down. The ride was superior to the current inhabitant of the building in every way. It was more immersive, starting with the sound of howling wind and a crow cawing as you walked down the pathway to the building, to the maestro playing his organ as you enter the building, and onto the ride which was made up of animatronics and actual props, not just flat black light cutouts where you can see the walls of the building. Even as you walked out the exit you'd hear the Maestro calling "You'll be back...". I'll end my rant by saying the biggest thing I miss is that on Phantom Theater is that you actually felt you had entered an old abandoned theater, rather than on Boo Blasters where the feeling is that they decided to put a ride in a big empty building, you can see the walls and at one point a large service/garage door is visible, I don't recall that being the case on Phantom Theater. I know the chances of Phantom Theater coming back are slim to none, but it would be nice for a dark ride of the same caliber of Phantom Theater and Enchanted Voyage to be put into that building. Time will only tell, but for now, I'll just be happy we still have a dark ride at all.

  10. That's because it is. B&M Hyper Coaster named after a snake with a splash down is SO 3 years ago.

  11. Wait, you are 10 years old? You are not old enough to post on here with out consent of parents. Further Universial and Disney are destination parks, while CF parks are generally regional parks. (I spose Cedar Point is a destination park?)

  12. On our last trip to KI, I ate at Hank's for the first time. Of all the great things Cedar Fair has done to clean up the park - including the new food options - this is the one thing in the park that was truly puzzling to me. I know it's been mentioned on the forums before, but... a southern coastal themed building serving Mexican food in the German-inspired Oktoberfest area? What happened there? Or the Festhaus, a German themed building in a German themed area with an American pizza place and chinese food, where they play country music.

  13. It's pretty dumb to complain about not having all the drinks; you get them for free! If you don't get to drink Mountain Dew for a day, you can survive! Just drink water!

  15. I once took some Google Earth pictures (measured carefully, of course) and was able to put the Magic Kingdom inside Kings Island's parking lot. I think I also fit Paul Brown Stadium in there, too. I don't know why I brought this up, but it seemed relevant.

  17. I think it was Shaggy who said YEARS ago that after SOB was gone people would then start waxing nostalgically about how it was such a great ride and what a shame it was that it was gone...so these sob'n SOB threads are never ever truly going away.

  18. Oh. Sorry. I feel silly now.... My bad for not putting in the right words and stuff Don't let the actions of a few put you down. Some people did not learn the old adage of "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." Keep posting things you think are funny and cool and have fun with it!

  23. Which does NOT mean he was not disabled. My mother died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She could walk...about 15 feet. After which she was completely exhausted and out of breath. Assuming someone is as able as most of the rest of us based on appearances is at best ignorant (which means not knowing) and at worst a sign of arrogance. Not all disabilities can be seen. Perhaps the man in question WAS a faker, but there is a very good chance he was not.

  24. dudecoasterman, I'm sorry that you never got to experience this ride! Have you ridden Boo Blasters? That ride is a disgrace to the Phantom Theater and dark rides in general. I really with KI would put a high quality dark ride in again. They are so much fun and very unique! Plus they are fun for the whole family and give you a chance to relax and cool off after a hot day riding coasters!

  28. ^If you go early on in the season and a Friday, the lines will most certainly be *very* short. I did this last season, and almost every single house was a walk on-15 minute wait at most.

  31. Thanks Brad, and I now have a few videos/photos up. These were all taken with my iPod, so the camera quality isn't all that good, but I guess better than nothing. More coming tomorrow. I edited it into paragraphs, thanks for the sugestion.

  32. OMG, I have the granddaddy of all "Guests Say The Darnest Things"! Yesterday, Sunday October 10, 10-10-10, I was walking through Planet Snoopy and overheard a woman ask her husband, "Where is that boat ride through the Smurfs? I can't find it!" I almost lost it. I haven't heard one that good since I heard a teenage girl 2 years ago proclaim that The Vortex was sinking! I guess the woman hadn't been to Kings Island in 20 years, or something. Just thought that was funny!
