  1. I just love ready posts by people that are not engineers giving expert opinions on the structural stability of the ride. Well, I am not an engineer but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

  2. There are ONLY THREE things we can say about Son of Beast for sure: 1) The general manager of Kings Island is displeased with the ride experience. 2) The public relations manager speaking on behalf of the park's management says that no decision has been made about the future of the ride. 3) Firms had been contacted to consider what to do with the ride, and at least one was returned as "unsatisfactory" as of a year or more ago. Those are the ONLY THREE THINGS we can say for certain about Son of Beast at this moment, PERIOD. ANYTHING ELSE is pure speculation, hearsay, misunderstandings, and / or imagination. From my very, very limited exposure to that group, it is about as informed as the rest of the park's Facebook fans - they provide rumors and misinformation back and forth, serving only to further confuse each other. Many of that group's members have been banned from commenting on the park's official Facebook page, and the few that have found their way here are pretty quickly shot down and / or banned for trying to spread the same garbage "facts" and trying to insist on what their friend-of-a-friend who works at the park overheard from a coworker who heard it personally from Mr. Island himself. That is to say: anything said on that Facebook group page that extends beyond the three points listed above is NOT true, NOT verifiable, and NOT official. End of story for now. I don't even understand this. What news have you heard about Son of Beast from that group that has turned out to be truthful? The ride is still standing but not operating and has been since 2009. No visible work has been done on it for better or worse, the trains have remained on the ground under the station, and the park continues to remind us that no decision has been made. What have you "heard" that has ended up "being truthful" when absolutely nothing has been done to the ride in three years?

  5. Long Story: Read the 72 pages. Short Story: The GM of KI is not pleased with the experience (That's what we've been told) and thus is sits in hibernation.

  7. Yes, someone knows. Mondays in summer can be very busy, compared to Kings Island's Mondays. Also, being a destination park, weather is not as much a factor as at KI. Monday will be much less busy than a Saturday, though. Have fun! (Trip Reports?)

  10. Well, to be frank, the "themed" area of Oktoberfest consists of a Viking ship (whose origins stem from Norway), a coaster set within the confines of a South American archaeological expedition gone horribly awry, a burrito shack, and a restaurant with the facade of a German festival house but with Italian and Chinese entrees, and a set of both country and British-themed musical revues. Actually, I can't even be frank, because they don't sell hot dogs in Oktoberfest!

  11. Fortunately, German has little to nothing to do with The Crypt. It's not even in Oktoberfest! An Interpreter, not a Translator.

  13. It's also reality, and they're probably not working on the tracks anyways. But that's just my opinion. Maybe.

  14. Firehawk...? Which I've never understood. What is the purpose of not allowing riders to leave bags in the station other than to force people to use lockers? Your items would actually be safer in Firehawk's station than any other coaster station (except the single-train coasters) because there aren't other riders running through the station while you're on the course. They allow flip-flops, prescription glasses, and souvenir cups to be left in the station, so what reason is there that you couldn't leave anything else? Don't give me the response of "Duh, there's no bins"; first, Invertigo does not have bins, yet riders may leave bags in the station, and second, the lack of bins now does not prevent them from installing bins later.

  15. That would have been perfect. When I went to HW for the first time I thought having 2 lazy rivers and 2 wave pools was a bit silly. But when I went to Soak City for the first time and had to wait my turn to get into the lazy river/Action river I appreciated HW's two lazy river attractions. I think they should add another lazy river (that's actually lazy!) but I'm not sure where they would put it. I think they need some shade for the lazy river.

  16. Easiest way to describe the difference is this: Ride stops are designed to put the ride back in the "home" position and allow passengers to disembark without any other issues. These are used mostly for unruly guests, or in some instances when a certain set of parameters are met in the ride computer. Power is kept onto the ride during a ride stop. Emergency stops are used when a certain set of parameters within the ride computer is met, and the safety of those aboard might be threatened. Also, the operator has an E-stop button available for parameters not set by the computer (someone jumping over the fences and entering lockout for example.) Almost all the rides at KI must be reinspected by maintenance after every E-stop situation, no matter if it is accidental or not. The reason for this is an E-stop is very harsh on the electrical systems of the newer style of rides, and maintenance wants to ensure that an accidental E-stop will not cascade into a bigger issue, or whatever caused the E-stop is fixed and did not trigger other issues with the ride. Most of these are 5 minute restarts (goes in, checks the ride computer, checks the circuit breakers, buttons it up, puts it to manual.) The only rides that I can think of off hand that do not have a hard maintenance reset are mostly "carnival" style rides that are up at the park, mainly due to the fact that for safety reasons, the E-stop is engaged in order to load and unload guests. The one that springs to my mind immediately is Kiddie Carousel. On that attraction, for safety reasons, the E-stop is pressed in after the ride cycle is done, and for further safety measures, the key is also removed until the ride cycle is ready to go.

  17. When I first read this I thought you literally meant the rain would flood some indoor rides so Kings Island needs more indoor rides because they keep flooding. I completely skipped over the "with people" part after it. I need to go to sleep.

  21. Who all thinks Surf Dog would be cooler if they had a big surfing Snoopy on top? They had the big Aang, so I think they should replace it with a big Snoopy!

  22. 2013 - The trams in the parking lot are brought back, so visitors would not have to take a large hike. Plans are reveled for a new exhibit which will be located where the Crypt is now. The exhibit would showcase the history of Kings Island and the Hall of Fame would be relocated to here. 2014 - The Crypt's building is removed and construction is started on the new exhibit. Many park executives were found walking around in SOB's station. A sit-down restaurant is added in Action Zone where Club Blood is located. 2015 - The new exhibit is opened to the public. Soak City gets two new water slides and a new lazy river. Music themed to the park areas is now played through out the park. DA also gets a new expansion and a a restaurant is built, plus new bathrooms. X-base also receives bathrooms. No announcement has been made on SOB, but construction equipment was spotted near the rose bowl. 2016 - An announcement is made stating that SOB will no longer be with us. Plans are revealed to re-theme Action Zone to Swiss Village and all the rides will be re-named and receive new themeing. Renovation begins the first day of the off season. Destruction on SOB also starts. 2017 - Swiss Village makes it's debut and SOB is still being deconstructed. The park adds a Wild West Shoot Em' Up show in Rivertown and trees are donated to the park in honor of our fallen troops. Water is added to Tower Gardens. 2018 - SOB is gone and plans for a new Mega Lite are released. The Three Point Challenge is removed and replaced with the Flying Eagles. Construction starts on the new coaster and is planned to open in 2019! 2019 - The new coaster opens and Mountaineer's (Flight Deck) que is reconstructed to make it less confusing. The park receives an award for the most visited attraction is Ohio. The park announces that BLSC will no longer be with us. The Beast turns 40! 2020 - BLSC is fully removed and plans for a Screamin' Swing are revealed. Rivertown and Coney Mall are given some minor themeing. 2021 - The Screamin' Swing opens. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.

  23. If I remember correctly, Disney has a purchase/delivery to the front gate option so you don't have to lug purchases around.....Not sure if that would work at KI or for the oversized stuffed animials....Personal items would be another issue. I wonder how $21 dollars was determined as a reasonable fee... I guess I'll take any purchases to my car, if I decide to make any purchases (and with fees like that......I won't be making any).....and eat my packed lunch while I'm there.

  25. Every company has flaws. B&M's reliance on tried-and-true, simple, tested technologies doesn't get them a free pass as a great company. Creations by Intamin and Zierer may experience more downtime and a 'learning curve' for mechanics and operators, but they offer something different. In a sense, if a man works from home and only walks out to the mailbox once a day to get a newspaper, you don't hold him in high regard for never getting in a ski mobile accident. It just doesn't make sense. Of course B&M's rides have fantastic reliability - they're simple. That's not to say they're less than Intamin's, just that they don't take as much risk and thus have less "flaws" to the casual observer.

  26. I have to go to Pride Night this year! I worked the event on Vortex and Monster back in 2005, and I have to say it was the most fun night I had there. I've always wanted to go again but struggled with how to explain it to my conservative family. Last year I came out as trans, but didn't have the extra money to attend (lots of car trouble) on top of having an unreliable car. But this year, I'm going for sure! Can't wait!

  27. I would love a themed dark ride ... although not sure what the theme would be since it's not a theme park ...

  28. I would love to attend one year and experience the fun. My Uncle is gay and I am proud of him. He is like my bigger brother that I never had. He would take me and my brother and sister every year to Kings Island we had a blast. He always encouraged me even through my adulthood, the man would give the last dollar in his pocket if you asked for it. He is my great friend. We travel once a year to another theme park, to experience something new. We started two years ago. Our last trips have been Kennywood, and Kings Dominion. I may try to attend this year, and suprise him by purchasing his ticket for the event, who knows?
