  3. Long lines don't usually bother me, especially with good company.. It's those around you that will drive you insane sometimes however. I was talking with another ride op friend opening day @ CP..some lady behind us started telling us to shutup and stop talking about rides.. Military voice came out, she shutup, I kept talking

  4. Wow...5 years already...and 2009 was my first year on KIC, I joined in Late May, so my 5th anniversary on KIC is coming up as well. Hmm...and during those 5 years, just for hindsight... -Son of Beast operated for the last time, and only co-existed for a few months alongside Diamondback. It was then SBNO for nearly 4 years before being demolished in the fall of 2012...in between, numerous debates and ideas for what might happen to it occured here on KIC. -The Crypt opened 2009 with a insane multi-flip ride cycle, but was mega-nerfed a few weeks into the season. It got some theming upgrades in 2011, but it was for naught, and it was demolished before the 2012 season. -Nickelodeon Universe saw its final season in 2009, before being re-themed into Planet Snoopy for 2010. -Scooby Doo & The Haunted Castle also underwent a transformation in 2010, and it became Boo Blasters on Boo Hill. -Cedar Fair was ALMOST sold to Apollo Group. Almost...but the deal fell through. -Flight Deck gets a new paintjob in 2011, but much to the chargin of KI fans, only the track is repainted and it stays the same colors. -WindSeeker and Dinosaurs Alive! made their debuts in 2011...though WindSeeker's debut was delayed about 2 months due to design flaws. Along with Dinos, Action Theatre gets a new movie, DA! 3D, replacing the long-running Spongebob 3D, but it becomes an upcharge as well...then is free again in 2012. -Matt Ouimet becomes the new CEO of Cedar Fair, and his influence is felt before he even takes office as Fast Lane debuts at Kings Island in 2011, then the rest of Cedar Fair in 2012. -Boomerang Bay Waterpark became Soak City in 2012, with a new wave pool, beach area, and re-configuration of the lazy river as well as theming and paint changes. -Invertigo gets a new paint job, changing from its original yellow & red to blue and darker blue. -Thunder Alley gives its last rides in 2012, as it is demolished along with Son of Beast for "future expansion"...which ends up being the next thing... -Kings Island announced their next major coaster, Banshee, which will debut in 2014- 5 years after Diamondback. Track work is already complete in time for the 5th anniversary of the same event for Diamondback. -Flight Deck is the next major ride/area to get a re-theme, as it becomes The Bat for 2014, and gets a SECOND (this time new colors though) paintjob just 3 years after its last. As of this writing, however, the "transformation" is not 100% complete. Yep...all that happened in one park in just 5 years. And that's not counting the stuff like new restraunts/restraunt changes, etc etc. that also happened since 2009. Makes you wonder what will happen in the next 5 years...

  10. Hello Pot, this is Kettle calling... A few days of not checking this forum and it has gotten a bit interesting. I love the off season. Rather than reply to so many numerous and amusing posts let me just make a simple statement. 2 things for the sake of the New Kentucky Kingdom. I have always said I hope they do well, although I strongly believe in a few years they will be in the same boat again. The reasons for this have been well stated throughout this forum. Secondly for the sake of the New Kentucky Kingdom I hope that neither of the 2 "fanboys" (I use this term lovingly) are on the marketing/promotions payroll of the park. Not because I don't want you to have a job, but that I would be even more concerned about the parks future if they are employing individuals who obviously have no understanding of the industry, marketing/promotions tactics, and knowledge of Kentucky Kingdoms past. A blindingly ignorant mouthpiece for the park will have zero effect in so called Consumer Buzz Monitoring tactics on a "Fanboy" site like this. Please bring a well conceived and constructed argument next time... Now I must run, the Kettle is calling...

  11. On this date in 2009, track work was completed on the Diamondback roller coaster. Track piece #129 was the final piece of track installed by the Adena Corporation. Celebrating its fifth anniversary season this year, Diamondback will give its 10-millionth ride this summer. Perhaps the 10-millionth rider will be you!

  17. For Diamondback, we got in the park at about 10:30, and then directly got in line about where the approach to the splash-down hill crosses the midway in front of The Beast-area Arcade. It was about a 4-hour wait for us. I think it will be somewhat similar for Banshee, so prepare accordingly -- (This post brought to you by the letter 'P' ).

  18. I'm not sure that would make sense with Congo Falls, The Bat, or even Banshee, whereas Festhaus and Viking Fury fit in line with the Oktoberfest theming. But I can't for the life of me imagine what a re-theming of Action Zone could be. With names like The Bat and Banshee, the only thing that comes to mind are the classic Vincent Price/Christopher Lee Hammer horror movies, folk lore, and urban legends, but how does that fit Congo Falls, Drop Tower, Delirium, and Invertigo? Of course, this is if there's going to be a re-theming at all this year. How does Viking Fury fit in with Oktoberfest exactly? Vikings may be northern Germanic tribes, but they're mostly associated with where those people settled in Norway, Sweeden, Russia, etc..Oktoberfest has southern Germany roots, namely in Bavaria. The Viking Age has long since been over when Oktoberfest became an annual tradition.

  19. I'll quote Van Halen too. Why don't you try Banshee "Right Now"? Van Halen regularly tells me that on a beloved ride in Action Zone.

  22. As much as a media day extravaganza sounds great, and, as much as riding on opening day sounds wonderful, I simply abhor waiting in lines to the point that I absolutely refuse to deal with that nonsense. To quote Van Halen, "I'll Wait". Another day or two won't kill me. Waiting in lines like that might.

  23. Opening day 2009 I saw Diamondback's line almost wrapped around itself. When the park opened the end of the line was where the Reds Hall of Fame Grille is and heading towards The Beast. I got in line when it got down to Chick-fil-A and waited about 2 hours I think. I'm guessing the line will be long all day. With it being on a Friday you'll have the people that are off work there when they open, then once the line begins to get shorter, the people that had to work will show up. Then the people who were there when the park opened will be back in line for the night ride coupled with the off work crowd and it will be the longest it has been all day. Did you get all that? Yes, it will be a mess.

  25. Two and a half hours, maybe possibly three.

  26. Actually, once the 3 hour, 3 train warranty expires (it's a bit longer than that), the parks get to do it. On their nickels. And some people wonder why so many parks choose reliable B&M's, coasters that work.

  27. And what of people whose very paycheck comes from Kentucky Kingdom, who must hope and pray it works this time? I do know one thing. The park business is a very small world. I'd not be reckless in making statements about the Kochs and other parts of the industry while feeling safe as Mr. Hart has done so. Mr. Hart has the film industry, politicians, investments and countless millions to fall back on. Most in his employ, do not. The business has a very long memory. Finally, Holiday World is a registered trademark. Both of its component words should always be capitalized, especially by such an esteemed industry colleague.

  28. I dont find long lines as bad if its a ride where you can watchin the coaster go through a lot of its cycle. Judging by the location of Banshee queue area i think we may get to see Banshee go through its entire cycle while standing in line. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  29. No major changes to the station will happen, per Don Helbig. The cars are going to be what you have seen on Top Gun/Flight Deck previously. The difference will be the color scheme, with black cars and possibly a little bit of orange.

  36. I think that's a miscalculation. My kids get out of school at the end of May this year. You might show up and find the park much busier than what you expect.

  37. For Diamondback opening day we got in line for traffic at 5:30. Then the parking lot opened at 6 and we waited in line at the security gate (no longer around) for 2 hours and then the park plaza opened at 8. Gold Pass people where staged at the entrance at Nickelodeon Universe just behind the SDATHC entrance while the others where staged behind the Royal Fountain for 1 hour. Then at 9 the ride opened to Gold Pass holders for the first time after a quick running of the bulls to the ride's entrance. We got on quickly after a 15 minute wait and the ride was opened to the rest of the park's non-Gold Pass holders at 10.

  38. I'm going to say four hours opening day/weekend Gatekeeper had a three hour running full capacity all morning until weather hit, so just a bit less capacity, I'd say being generous four hours. But you can always hope for lower times.

  39. I couldn't wait that long!!! It's hard enough waiting just until April 17th! wont there be 1000 schools their on senior trips, music trips, physics trips and other school trips though? I always find that the most annoying time to go. Line jumping, barely clothed young teens, and not to mention getting caught in line with young teens having very loud and inappropriate conversations. 43. Hmmm, if most of us are KK-Realists, does that make the people who fully believe that KK will succeed KK-Romantics? But what about people who only think KK will succeed if the forces of nature let it (no tornados or horrible storms to destroy the park)? Does that make them KK-Naturalists? Apparently, I've paid good attention in English class so far this year...

  44. Youthere, you need to read this post that I directed at sccard01. It applies equally to you. To expand on what shark6495 said there, you (sccard01) need to understand that wanting KK to succeed and believing that they will succeed are two completely different things. I want KK to succeed. Most of us probably do. But just because we want the park to succeed does not mean that they will. We're being realists here. We want them to succeed, but the evidence says otherwise. Realistically, the severe undercapitalization of future years, lack of marketing, and other factors suggest, when not viewed through rose-colored glasses, that KK is likely to fail after a few years unless drastic changes occur. Being an optimist is great, but even optimism needs to be grounded in realism. Now try to explain how I have "hatred" for the park. Hint: I don't. My hatred for the park exists only in your imagination. As for being biased, my comments are grounded in facts that anyone can see if they only choose to open their eyes. Your comments are pure opinion and fanboyism, blindly arguing that the park will succeed and refusing to consider any other possibility. I suggest you reconsider who is "biased" here. Hint #2: It's not me.
