  2. I think we are losing focus on the term, "profiling" too. You matched the description of someone they were looking for. Sounds like an honest mistake, although if your account is accurate they could have been more polite about it when they found out it wasn't you. Profiling would be if security followed an African-American kid into the 80's shop to catch him stealing because, "that's what African-American kids do."

  3. If you aren't satisfied with the reaction of the supervisor of the park PD, why not call them back? You're really not going to solve anything just by posting it here. Maybe they can offer you a better explanation. Sorry this happened to you, though.

  6. So you're upset because you didn't get an apology, but got a phone call from a supervisor apologizing? What did you want the supervisor tell you to make you feel better about the situation? I understand it was probably stressful and a waste of your time. But, the officer was doing his job by looking for someone matching a description. The officer didn't just pick you out because you have one quality but because you matched the description of the offender. The officer may not have apologized or thanked you for your cooperation because there may have been a bigger task at hand. He could have had to respond to the area where the offender was found. As someone else said, you should call them back if you're not satisfied, nothing in all honesty will be rectified here. I can tell you, never leave the park without voicing a complaint. The more you wait by traveling home, taking a nap, lets you just get more worked up by thinking about it. There's a great place at the front gate, called Guest Services. If there is a complaint or compliment, go there before heading home. It will get addressed as soon as possible. Often times if there is a complaint someone from the department you have an issue with, will come and speak with you personally.

  7. It sounds like this could have been handled much better from a customer service perspective. If you match the description of someone that police are looking for, it's very reasonable to stop you long enough to determine whether you are that person. They should be respectful and tell you why they are briefly stopping you. They definitely shouldn’t make you feel "like a criminal". Once they determine that you are not the individual in question, they should thank you for your cooperation. Definitely call them back and let them know why you aren't happy. No guest of the park should be made to feel that way unless actually violating laws or park rules.

  8. Sorry, but I'm actually asking someone that has been to KI in the past couple days to answer my question but thanks That's still the best answer you're going to get. Whether someone has been to the park within the past couple of days or not does not magically make them able to look into a crystal ball and predict whether the ride will be open on any specified date in the future. The simple fact of the matter is that it will be open if it is safe for the park to do so, and closed if it is not. Whether it is safe for them to open it is not something that can be determined in advance and is usually independent of whether it was open on previous days, since the majority of closures last only part of a day. So regardless of what you're looking for, that's the best answer to your question.

  10. I think It will be fun to watch Jurassic Park surrounded by dinosaurs and nature....Hmmmm. I remember a picture of a lantern in a leather seat posted from Twitter recently....do you suppose the lantern was sitting on the leather seat of a Jeep (golf cart), meaning that perhaps guests will be transported through the compound to a viewing area? Interesting.....It would be worth the $6/($3 for gold pass holders) to find out for sure. I think I'll do this event to find out (might even go to the event a couple of Saturdays)!

  11. Right after I purchased my red and black Tahoe pickup truck, I was being stopped allover town. If I changed lanes, the sirens went on. I got so used to stopping for police, I began to know them by name. Yes, they were looking for some other yobbo with the same style of truck. I don't know why they just didn't check license plates. I always got an apology on the spot. It seems as if the security guard had to be reminded later to call and apologize. It seems more a fault of the officer as an individual for not having good manners than an overall view of KI Security. I'm sure at this point, if this particular guard ever finds himself in the same situation, he'll remember to apologize right then and there.

  12. No offense but why are people willing to pay 130 a night for a place your just going to sleep and shower? As long as the room is clean and taken care of that's all that matters to me.

  16. A few guys behind me in line for Banshee were discussing Flight of Fear being down. "But what caused the fires?" (At this point I was rolling my eyes about crappy news coverage and wanted to shout "there were no fires!") Another one of the guys answered in a self-assured manner "they were running it too fast, to make the line move more quickly." He said it with such conviction, it ended their discussion, because the matter was resolved. If he was making it up on the spot rather than repeating bullcrap he heard somewhere, he should go into politics because even I thought for half a second "whoa, really?"

  17. Definitely buy your tickets online, if you haven't already (or have a season pass). No matter what, the best deals are online. Same goes for Fast Lane, however I agree with malem in this case - see if the day really requires it. It sure looks like the weather will be questionable that day, so attendance may be really low. You would feel pretty foolish if you spent $90 or whatever on a wrist band that just has you walking through a different empty queue than the rest of the public, right? You can always buy it at the park that day and the price isn't that different. If you're going to be there all day I think you'll have enough windows of opportunity to do everything, so don't let the weather deter you. When it rains, check out of show or grab a bite to eat. There's a lot to do at KI. Have the best day ever. Ryan

  18. I used to absolutely despise watching Matlock with my mother. Worse, she loved it. Television dramas do not generally accurately depict real life. Nor does so-called reality television. Oddly, among the best at it, of all things, are soap operas. The author herein is not engaged in the private practice of law, the art of being a television critic, nor does he currently write screenplays for a remuneration. More interestingly, he does not own a television nor pay a cable bill. Nor do his comments apply to Perry Mason, which was far more realistic than most, and may well have contributed to the overabundance of attorneys in this Nation. Carefully written disclaimers (or company taglines in press releases) can reveal much, but only to the careful reader. This is a disclaimer.

  19. And criticism of the park, valid or not, here, by employees thereof, may result in adverse personnel actions, as some here can sadly attest. Not smart. At all. And HR will coordinate such adverse actions. Irony. Be careful about...admissions...here. Generally. At most large companies, including Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, if your job doesn't specifically require disseminating information on the Internet, you do so at your extreme peril. The company can (and has) at any time decide it will no longer tolerate such, regardless of how long it may have done so up until that time. A job is a terrible thing to waste.

  21. Regular zipper bags (food storage ones) work just fine, too. I use one with my phone when I'm playing on it in the tub, you can still use the touchscreen through it. I've only dropped it once, but it protected it. I put my phone in the zipper bag I take with me every time I go to KI, when I went on Congo Falls yesterday. It kept it nice and dry even though I was completely soaked otherwise.

  22. 1,000 guests in one night? The FIRST 1,000 guests? They sure do expect this thing to be big. It's going to be interesting. Who is this intended for? We all know that DA is more of a "family" attraction, geared towards kids. But Jurassic Park? Is the appropriate on a wide scale for a 5 or 6 year old? Furthermore, would those kids be willing and able to participate in the alleged 10-12a time frame? I guess the conclusion we can draw is that this is intended for older point. Teens and adults. The description is still kind of vague, so anything's possible. Can't wait to check it out.

  25. Despite some bad reviews, I will add the Kings Island Inn and Conference Center. We have stayed there twice this season, and I will grant you, the first stay, the room was dated, and not "perfect" by any standards, but it was, for the most part clean and comfortable. Now as for our second stay there, we asked for a room in the "main" building. A huge difference was experienced, the room had new carpet, and was VERY clean. It appears they are trying to update their rooms. Other than a shortage of electrical outlets, the room was more than satisfactory. Add in free shuttle service to and from the park, every 1/2 hour, an indoor pool with hot tub, an outdoor pool as well, and a very competitive price when booked in advance. If anyone decides on this as an option, we stayed in building A, though I think buildings A, B, and C would give a similar experience. Also they offer a breakfast buffet wich, if ordered the night before, was only $6.99.

  26. I've rode it a total of 2 times, both last season. I have avoided it for years, fear of heights, since I had been getting better at handling this last year, I rode it. Amazingly the ascent was reasonably enjoyable as I scanned the Banshee construction area. As the rotation stopped, and we prepared for the fall, a slight apprehension hit me, and down we went. Not as bad as I thought it would be. That said it was late afternoon / early evening, after many other rides. Later in the season, we went on as the first ride of the day, I had done this before, old hat right? NO, the ascent, while obviously no different than the first, was completely unnerving. It seemed an eternity after the rotation stopped that the ride continued to climb. Even after the ascent stopped, another eternity until the "click" at that point I could easily have counted to 70 ( it seemed ), when finally the great relief of the fall came, something I would've hated not that long ago. I won't say I'll never ride it again. But I will say it will never again be my first ride of the day.

  27. Here is the design of the intersections along Bypass 4 (I hope this works...never linked to a video here before!): Basically, if you are on a lesser street that crosses the major route, you cannot simply cross the major route by going straight through the light. You have to turn right onto the major route, then make a U-turn, then turn right back onto the street you were originally on. If you are traveling on the major route, you now have two lights to get through at each cross street (one at the U-turn and another at the actual intersection. It just seems...weird. I will say that the traffic flow is much improved, but I credit the fact that they added more travel lanes more than this intersection design. And I still maintain that a traffic light salesman was involved !

  28. I just went through jury duty call, and in the pool was an intrepid reporter from a well known metropolitan newspaper. He had no idea how his name was selected for jury duty. "You voted." No. He insisted, it couldn't be that. I suggested that he ask the bailiff that was manning the Jury Duty ATM. The bailiff answered the same as I did. "No. It couldn't be that...." stated our Intrepid Reporter. These are the people that writing our news. This is why news stories are now super crappy. I'm expecting a news report about the next Banshee vomit comet dry off run.

  29. Let me make one thing clear: I don't work for Cedar Fair, Kings Island, etc., but I do know a LITTLE about their processes. Please do not take any of the below as gospel, I'm just trying to help... In some instances, if the person who interviewed you thought that you weren't a good fit for the department for which you applied, they can choose to pass your application. That's not necessarily a bad thing. For example, if you applied for games but you just didn't have the outgoing personality necessary to be successful in the department, yet the person thought you could embody Cedar Fair's cornerstone beliefs, they would recommend you to another department like rides, foods, park services, etc. I'm not saying that's what happened, but that's kind of what it sounds like to me. Don't give up, and good luck!!!!

  33. Welcome! Rides will shut down if there is lightning in the vicinity of the park, though they will reopen as conditions allow. Most rides continue operating in a light rain if there is no lightning. Days with possible thunderstorms can be good days to visit, as they tend to be less crowded. If rides shut down, take a break to eat and/or see a show. Make sure not to miss Cirque Imagine! Many recommend waiting until they get to the park to buy Fast Lane, as it may or may not be needed depending on crowds and how long you are willing to wait for rides. The price at the park could be higher, however; it's always subject to change without notice.

  34. This past Sunday while waiting of Banshee, a girl in the neighboring switchback signals me and asks "Can I go ahead of her?" When I look at her with a puzzled look, she continues " I'd like to ride with you"-not sure if those were the exact words but they were something like that. I continued walking and ignored her. That was absolutely creepy.

  35. I think he was just trying to make a joke about all of them being shut down because the parks are closed for the night. If so, 1) it's not funny in the least, and 2) it's probably wrong because Worlds of Fun, which has a WindSeeker model, was still open at the time of that post because they are on Central Time.

  36. Had a great trip up there today. Was first time in several years it was me and a friend instead of my daughter so I was able to ride the bigger rides. Rode Diamondback for the first time ever and it is definitely towards the top of my list of rides. Also rode Backlot Stunt Coaster for the first time, it was better than expected. And lastly rode Firehawk for the first time and did not enjoy it, just didn't feel secure to me. Saw Drop Tower break down for a few minutes, I was worried something went wrong with the new part but all was well. Sucked that Flight of Fear, WindSeeker, and Shake Rattle and Roll was closed, WindSeeker is only ride left I haven't done, every time I have the chance to ride it it finds wind. 37. And that'll presumably keep Kingda Ka down, too, right? Yeesh! Who could've foreseen that clipping a record-shattering Intamin ride onto a record-shattering Intamin ride in New Jersey would lead to downtime?

  38. While I understand what you are saying GYK and agree with most of it, Universal Orlando still has a bit of a direction issue. What I mean is they build what is looking like a gorgeous new area within the park, in Diagon Alley, yet Transformers is another Tan Box ride. In my opinion Universal tore down their best themed area in Amity to build their new best themed area. Old habits die hard and it will be interesting to see how Universal Orlando moves forward, will the entire park get a retheme or will part be Tan Box movie studio park and the other be a few well themed lands?

  40. a. Mr. Kinzel, then over at Maple Grove, called it worse than that. b. Big Droppy Thing came from the same place as other appellations, including New Jersey's Finest Theme Park, Maple Grove, BooFest... c. Mr. Jim Reid-Anderson has doubtless called that new steel coaster opening in Gurnee, Zumananjaro: Drop of Doom and some other things far worse than Big Droppy Thing. Betwixt weather and other factors, it's been a rough year for timely openings. I'm sure SeaWorld Entertainment would agree. Even existing attractions have had their problems, from Cedar Point to Kings Island to New Jersey's Finest Theme Park, which somehow seem incomplete without attractions ranging from Shake Rattle and Roll to Shoot the Rapids to Flight of Fear to Drop Tower to Kingda Ka.

  41. For any of you dieing to see a POV of WMG, CoasterForce has posted a FULL HD *and legal* POV of the ride. You can see that the ride is clearly incomplete as there is wood still covering holes in the mountain. Also, just as the train enters the mountain, you can see the general set-up of the ride.

  47. That made my skin crawl reading that. Not only because it was absurdly pointless, but also because it seemed to make Kings Island come off as a dangerous place. The person who wrote the article didn't even explain what exactly went wrong with FoF and that it was nothing serious. Heck, the fact that Banshee stopped on the lift is nothing serious. No one was hurt and at least no one was stuck upside down in a loop. I can remember many a time when Invertigo stopped on its lift hill and that never made news! Coasters do get stopped on the lift sometimes...its not the end of the world...geesh.
