  1. ^^ I'm all for unique restaurants, but this specific location might be better suited for a franchise. Park guests have already left the park and driven 2 miles by the time they get there. The only thing drawing them is a small roadside sign, so a familiar brand can help. Also, large groups (which this location caters to) tend to prefer establishments with a reputation for handling them efficiently. For what it's worth, Reds Hall of Game Grille did not handle large groups well last season.

  2. I don't think the point is to make it an amusement park, but rather a life-like encounter with the days of old. Never say never, but I don't see Moses bumper cars any time soon.

  3. Oh man this takes me back. Did anyone catch the conversion from the young kid looking for the Skyride?, "They must have taken it out". Oh those were the days. **Side note, The Empire Strikes Back was currently showing its first run in theaters when this video was taken.

  4. They should, at least, change the background music on International Street to something instrumental. Kings Dominion's International Street still plays nice fitting background music: (Not my video. I found it on Youtube)

  6. Would have been cool if they did a Cav's restaurant much like the Reds Grille at KI.

  7. They should do like Paramount: opening day at the end of March. Battle snow flurries to get there.

  8. 2015's Opening Day will most likely be on a Saturday. Passholders who renewed in the fall will have access to a preview night on the preceding Friday. 2014's calendar was influenced by an abnormally late Easter and by the debut of Banshee. This year's calendar might be different.

  9. Don't you mean prophets? And talk about overreaction. No one said that Mr. Ham was Hitler. You rushed to that conclusion. All that was said was that Hitler was an engaging speaker, which he most certainly was, as was Stalin and, for that matter, both Roosevelts. That doesn't make Ken Ham Joseph, Theodore or Teddy. Sheesh.

  10. I think KI/CF of now needs to take notes and watch this video of the past! You ask me, the park looks truly amazing! I love the themeing they had! Some things that I would LOVE to see: International Street (IS), look and become "international" again. More focus and care put back into the fountains. Someone walking around selling balloon or even have a cart. Not ounce in past few years, have I seen KI even selling balloons! Redo some of the signs of their kid ride, to make them look much more grand again! A live band to go with the show(s). Classic music for Coney Mall and IS. grass/shrubs in the shapes of Peanut characters. Honestly those are some silly things that I think would be quite doable and really add to the park experience!

  11. They haven't did any track work of late. Which clearly is a cause of the holidays.... which they surely they deserve with the pace they have been building this (and it's the holidays). Here a picture I just took off Carowind's webcams where you can't see a thing ( photo taken from https://www.carowinds.com/online-fun/webcams ) .

  13. And these things are wonderfully fun when run properly. Didn't a park just get rid of their rope course? A coaster is is usually much safer than a ropes course....

  14. I love Quaker. I have done the Triple Atomic challenge...it was awful lol. I like QSL way better than BDubs. Ps...Roosters is terrible. I do like Frickers though due to super cheap beer and beautiful waitresses. I am a regular lol. I believe the two chains are owned by brothers.

  16. This reminds me of another place in Louisville called Roosters. It was the worst parts of the other three places all combined. We actuallly left mad. The sauce was basically butter water. The waitress was shocked that we thought the food was terrible. It amazes me that so many places cannot properly prepare such a simple food item.

  17. ^ At least at Polaris (Columbus), this restaurant draws large crowds. They've apparently found some audience. I wasn't impressed the one time I ate there, but I'm definitely not their target customer.

  18. That all being said, attractions on what is for all practical aspects, off-property outside the gates do not enjoy the luxury of captive audiences. Pricing, quality AND service must measure up. It has been my experience that QSL doesn't excel in any of the three.

  20. I was at a Bdubs and they were advertising their ghost pepper wings. They looked delicious and at the time I had no idea what ghost pepper was. They had the manager come out and requested that I only get a side of it and some fries to try, etc. Well evidently ghost pepper is the hottest pepper.... The wing sauce was delicious but the after burn was not worth it. They did taste better than blazing though.

  23. It's come to this. There was a time that having unique, special offerings was a lure to Cedar Point. Not unlike, say, Mythos in Florida. Now? They just wing it.

  24. If you think QSL is overpriced now... just wait until it's on Cedar Point property.

  26. Alright, here is the last video from July 24, 1980. I put together all the random scenes. You'll see the entrance, shops, singers singing "YMCA", brief views of Zodiac and Tumble Bug, day and night views of the fountain, and even a person selling those neon glowing strips at dusk that were so cool. I am glad this website exists, and I am glad so many people have enjoyed my dad's video. Time to put this tape back on the shelf. George

  28. Never tired Frickers. They are supposed to be opening a Buffalo Wings and Rings here in Etown, a B Dubs also. Sadly (Not really) I do not plan on living here by the time they open.

  29. ^ Castaway Bay (attached to this restaurant) is open year-round, and guests of that resort need to eat. With Sandusky being dead in the off-season, the hotel restaurant might be more important. The announcement stated that TGI Friday's will close January 1 for construction of the new restaurant, so it apparently was open in the off-season.

  30. I wonder if the QSL will close during the off-season. Many of the motels do. Sandusky is pretty dead six months out of the year, even with the indoor waterparks, which I doubt could sustain many restaurants.

  33. Woah woah woah partner, how the heck do you compare Hitler to Ken Ham? Are you mad? What makes a guy running a Christian museum the same to a guy running a government machine that slaughtered 6 million innocent Jews? There is no hate in true Christianity as that is just a load of bull. Christianity was founded upon the morality of good, love, peace, and goodwill base. If your conjuncture is true, then that would mean some of the most impacting groups for the poverty struck Cincinnatians, is only out to hurt and decimate those who even try? Or better yet, multiple and multiple of mission trips to poverty struck Haiti, only seek to, again, destroy even more of the morales of the people? I as a Christian I feel as if your agenda by that post is more of a hate, as, being someone who seems to be outside of Christianity, is only spreading hate for the religion. Yeah sure you may not like what he is saying nor agree with it, but he is trying to expand on a market in KY and expand his ministry. I am not saying that you cannot disagree with what he is saying about it; but there's no reason why to call him Hitler as that is a terrible analogy. I mean seriously this isn't a black hole and a sun scenario here use some logic and stop trying to pull bull and start a flame war over it. Now on the topic of the Ark Encounter I am just going to touch on a few major flaws that I see. First thing's First (I am going to be the realist <Good ole Iggy>) the park has little to no attractions for the family. The park needs more Biblically based attractions, coasters to be exact. That way it could actually make more revenue and go along with their already growing popularity of the zip-lines. Secondly, they need more emphasis on what they will have as in amenities and etc. The park is too based on the Ark and it needs to be more than that, KI doesn't just rely on The Beast, Diamondback, or Banshee for that reason. It needs more of a stretched arm in what it has, not just a dark ride and a boat. The park as of now just looks like it needs work on the design, it doesn't look like it could be successfull to be a regional park. Already we have dollars being poured into the Kingdom of Louis, and that could either be a go or a big no depending on how the economy and years play out. Now a park that could possibly go down the tank because of the lack of attractions. Sure, it is a sight to see and would bring in revenue in the first year or two, but attractions need to be planned for the long run of things to be added aka coasters, flats, etc.

  34. Sorry for the double post, but I absolutely love these videos. I especially enjoy seeing the Tumble Bug running. I wasn't born in 1980, it gives a great idea of what the park looked like compared to now.

  35. I'd like to add something, but, you guy's pretty well sumed it up before I got here. A lot of history in those 20 years. but, my personal favorite is the ol' Cobra.

  36. Seeing Adam Rich man tackle the challenge on Man vs Food is the whole reason I tried the place. While I love spicy food and Hot Wings. Those "insane" sauces are not my cup of tea. I prefer taste over "look how tough I am". B Dubs "Hot" and Frank's "Buffalo" styles are perfection.

  37. Quoting KIFan73: "What is it about July 24!!??" In 1980? It wasn't the most eventful day in history, unless you were an avid fan of Peter Sellers or Bjorn Borg. Who died and was married (respectively)... That didn't come out quite right...

  38. In my opinion Crossroads and B-Dubs's have better wings than Quaker Steak and Lube. I have been to Quaker Steak and Lube about 5 times and I still dont like their wings.

  39. What a treasure! Your video, more than any others I've seen, truly captures what the park felt like in those earlier days. Seeing the park in this raw context is the way I remember it as a child. The footage of the Tumblebug was especially was a treat! I also love how this was able to capture the music and sounds of each area, where other videos that have turned up from the period have only been mute. Thank you once again for taking the time to edit and post these!

  41. Ah! This is so awesome! Those glow strands! Way before the modern LED toys, those were all the rage at the park! (This made me remember all those colorful, feathery bird marionettes, Glassblower-stretched 7-Up bottles, and "Ghost Chasers" Invisible Dog leashes everyone was walking around with as the closing hour drew near). I loved the ambient music over Coney Mall. Very amusement-park-like! I miss it. The shot of the timeless Glassblower shop reminds me of how there is at least one craftsperson who (as far as I am aware) is still working in his shop since years before this video was made. Just one of the millions of thoughts and wonderful memories that come pouring in as I watch these. Your videos are beyond treasures. Thanks!

  42. I would say The Beast. But I was still too short to ride it when it came to the park. I have to say King Cobra. It was the first coaster that I just loved start to finish. And I always loved that it was the first of its kind and as always still wish it was there.
