Superfans of the park knew much more about Banshee prior to the announcement than they now know about Project 2017. The hype on KIC sort of died down last month when trolling persisted longer than it should have.15 points

Just noticed this on twitter. I have been expecting this for a little while now. Looks like the wood for the retaining wall has arrived.12 points
-
Just noting... eight days before the announcement, and posters in this thread still haven't reached a consensus regarding the height, launch/lift mechanism, or even the ride manufacturer.12 points

Why not just call the coaster Beauty? Then KI would have Beauty and The Beast?10 points

Honestly it doesn't matter to me what is being built. I just like reading the thought processes of other enthusiasts. You all are all very informative and entertaining! No matter what is announced, I really got amusement and knowledge from this thread!10 points

Mantis was originally to be named Banshee, not Raptor.10 points

Does anyone else see the tombstone in the woods on the announcement page? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk10 points

I think that the much more visible construction helped with Banshee. That, and message boards are slowly dying off in interest. Facebook and twitter were not as big then as they are now.10 points

There was more buzz about Banshee 1. Because it was replacing SOB so people expected sometime grand. 2. Track was spotted at the Clermont Steel plant for it. 3. It was after Diamondback so people thought it was going to be something bigger I myself I'm not to worried about the size of this thing. Which ever company is building it I'm sure it's going to be an amazing coaster kind of like a mini version of The Beast with some nice airtime. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk9 points

If they're secret, how would you know about them? I put "secret" in quotes because I was referring to trademarks not filed directly by Cedar Fair or Kings Island, but still filed by Cedar Fair under one of its subsidiaries (e.g. Millennium Operations). A quick search on the trademark database can pull up all of the trademarks filed at the address of Cedar Fair's headquarters. They may have learned a lesson from Thunderbird. Holiday World applied for that trademark under a seemingly unrelated shell company with an address in Evansville. So the subsidiary might not necessarily have the address of Cedar Fair HQ, or any other address one might associate with Cedar Fair.9 points

GREAT CATCH! That kind of confirms that it will in fact roll, dip, fly, and dive over WWC.Wait, why are we thinking this is a Ford truck? I'm only remembering the one pic at the moment but looked like a 64 Chevy to me. Besides we don't want to be Found On Rivertown Dead. See this pic as examples. From... http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/blog/index.php/category/featured-trucks/1960sfeaturedtrucks/ The heartbeat of the forest.8 points

I love this name for a future Giga in a different area of the park. Doesn't really fit in Rivertown but it's really cool! #TeamSplintercat8 points

For some reason Centaurs are coming to mind for me, probably because they live in the Forbidden Forest near Hogwarts. But I'm still sticking to something Lumberjack related8 points

Yeah.....I noticed it right before you posted. Thanks!!! It looks like there could be an owl perched to the left of the cross. I'm seeing all kinds of crap now.....8 points

I don't know why people are taking his tweets seriously. He is no different than me tweeting and saying things that I think are true; there is no credibility, and I take everything that he says with a grain of salt, maybe even less.8 points

For anyone interested in numbers: At this point in Banshee speculation (right after the announcement of the announcement date), we were averaging around 900 or more posts per day across all of KIC, with a large portion of those in the decoding thread. Over the past 24 hours, we've had just 343 posts across all of KIC. Whatever this is, it's certainly not drawing the level of interest and speculation that Banshee did.8 points

Yeah, I had suggested something Paul Bunyan and/or Babe the blue ox related. So long ago, I'm not surprised it wasn't noticed or remembered. "Bunyan Run" I think is my favorite play on that. I had considered compiling a list of all the names people have suggested through this thread, but it was a bit intimidating of a proposition. I may yet, if I get bored in the days leading up to the announcement.7 points

Not surprised a tombstone is hiding in the Project2017 splash page considering a Haunt attraction literally called Tombstone Terror-tory resided in those specific woods for the better part of nine years (even though no cemetery resided in said maze). I can only hope the reservoir remains (mostly) intact and not neutered to the point where it becomes another kiddie pool but with a No Splashing rule.7 points
-
Where do you see the tombstone? I do see something that looks like wolf ears where I have circled. It's like when the psychologist shows a picture and everybody sees something different EDIT: I think I spotted the tombstone. Right in the middle of the pic with a cross on top of it. Maybe? haha7 points

But the hype sort of died down after the blueprints were leaked in early June, some were just disappointed I guess, though I was not one of them. We still dont really know what type of wooden rollercoaster it is, but we know it is some type of woodie.7 points

A 3 year developement of River town would rock more like a knotts park with shops a highly themed log flume maybe a dark ride some flats.. That would rock also.7 points

Forget RMC, we already got this thread turned into the RNC. We got people legit set on the name Splintercat, chuckle head and #kirmc4lyfenowintaminlater spewing factless info all around, I'm done7 points

"Deliverance" fits a lot of the clues. Would also work for a flume. Lol For all you kids. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068473/ I just watched that movie last night! I love that movie! I have a story to do with that movie, My cousin Kramer and I were out one night, and after we went to a festival, we were just beat. We went to all places, a bar at a Holiday Inn. There was a country string band playing, and we got our beers, and sat between the bar and the band. The band, for some reason, starting playing "Dueling Banjos" and Kramer and I were extolling to each other our love of the movie "Deliverance". I conjectured that the most manly man of the film was not Burt Reynolds, but Ned Beatty, because it took a lot of nerve for him to show his bum- But instead of the word 'bum" the truth was we were saying "Great, big, white, fat a**"- and both Kramer and I were talking to each other as such- "He read the script, saw that part, and decided he had it in him to show his 'bum." "Yeh, he knew everyone was going to see his "Bum", but he went ahead and did it." "Yeh! That takes nerves of steel to know the whole nation is going to see your 'bum- And! squeal like a pig! That's the most daring part in the movie." And we thought about getting another beer. I looked over at the bar, and the friendliest, most most pleasant looking fellow lifted his mug and smiled at us. We lifted our glasses and smiled at him. "Kramer. That's Ned Beatty." "(Gasp!) And we're sitting here talking about his 'bum'!" We .... decided not to meet him. He pretty much knew we were fans from over there.7 points

I wonder how soon green Intamin track arrives on site after the announcement.7 points

For the record.. the blue truck from the announcement invites are Chevys. It's clearly labeled. And I was gonna try to see this stuff on the train thia after noon around 5 but the train never came after 30 minutes of waiting... I left and walked to the "other" park6 points

I want it to be named "Ned Beatty."I thought it was just going to be a lovely walkway, or a new greenspace, or restaurant, to be honest. I thought all that ride talk was pipe dreaming. I'm surprised to see a new larger scale ride coming so soon after Banshee and the new flats, and really surprised at the rides location. Now you"ve all got me caught up in the speculation. I really have to get used to this Oiumet guy.6 points

And they will need access to load and unload train cars each season. (Adding to the retaining wall reasons) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk6 points

Why is everybody ignoring the bear possibility as well.? Grizzly has been used as a coaster, but I don't think Kodiak has. Just throwing stuff out there:) The more names we post, the better chance of somebody getting it right. That is unless it isn't named yet as somebody suggested earlier.6 points

Honestly I think Rougarou would have been perfect for this project, as for other themes we obviously have some possible animal/creature names, wood/lumberjack. I can't really find anything too "western" that would match the hints.6 points

Retaining wall, most likely the purpose of the beams that have been sunken next to the reservoir. So, with the water in the background, presumably this lumber is laid out in the clearing next to the reservoir (near the WWC turntable)6 points

I thought you were pointing out the name "Bobcat".6 points

That and people were probably speculating that it was going to be a huge project replacing SoB. I think a lot of people think this project is going to be more on the medium size scale. If people really thought this was going to be a record breaking giga or something, this site would be blowing up. Personally, I prefer a project in Rivertown over any other part of the park, so I am hyped.6 points

I think this thread could have had much MUCH more potential if the blueprints were not leaked so early... that kinda killed the buzz. With the rate we were going before that, we could have overtaken Decoding 2014 easily...5 points

Ask Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, also a Cedar Fair park. They have a wooden coaster named Timberwolf.Sent from my LG-H631 using Tapatalk5 points

It's amazing, no matter how often I've been to KI (over 30 times so far this season) and no matter how much I look around, there are still things that take me by surprise. I've ridden Vortex more times this summer than ever before, but last time I rode I suddenly noticed this on the ground below the queue, for the first time. It's those little touches that are so fun!5 points
