  2. These cheap $150 gold passes are starting to rear its ugly head.

  3. Remove Starbucks and replace it with Skyline to bring it back to the front of the park LOL

  4. A couple weeks ago I met my family inside the KI Starbucks after I grabbed food from LaRosa's. Part of me worried if someone was going to say anything but I was with my group and it was a cold, rainy day and there was plenty of space in there. Honestly, that Starbucks is a waste of indoor dining space in the park, even if G&G is next door.

  5. Fair reporting, the media just doing their job, it's just unacceptable by some of the people that make those decisions as to who is and who isn't invited to media day.

  7. You might be able to share Don's office by the Royal Fountain on International Street: That's a million dollar office, better than any corner office or Starbux lounge. (Photo from a thread here on KIC)

  8. That was a tough read. Not surprising, but its really deplorable. Funny how it's always the boots on the ground that get hosed but of course the CEO and upper management never see a pay cut or feel the burn. These people never seem to realize that they wouldn't even have a job if every employee that actually works directly at these parks chose not to show up. If it were possible for them to unionize, I'd say fight for that. Lowering pay is just going to create more staff shortages and less incentive to do the job the way they are expected to. Who wants to run circles all day long being yelled at, assaulted and demeaned for less money than before? No benefits. No protections. Nah. Granted I realize most of these jobs are filled by high school/college and retirees, but that doesn't mean they deserve any less respect for what they do all day. Long hours in the heat, rain, cold just to make sure you are safe on a ride. To make sure you are safe in the park. To make sure you have food and drink. And less quality experience for the consumer. Sounds like a solid plan. But lets continue to line the pockets of those way above the ones that actually bust their tails to keep these places open.

  9. I agree with you on this 100%. Everything is just Gibson Bold on a white or plain background, with a picture of a Gold/Prestige/whatever pass. This recent example from Kings Dominion has to be one of the worst ads that I have ever seen from a park. What about this ad tells the audience anything about the 50th Anniversary? What in this image compels the audience to purchase a pass? Make a visit in 2025? https://x.com/KingsDominionVA/status/1875270505097523311 Nothing about this ad connects to the audience on an emotional level. For a theme park company, it's such a shame that the branding/messaging is so consistently bland and boring.

  10. KK is moving the "adult" rides, minus Lightning Run from the front of the park to the newly expanded area between the Thunder Run Plaza and Storm Chaser. I look for everything - including Storm Chaser to be re-themed/re-named. They will close the path that ran from Storm Chaser to the former T2, mostly to remove rides and install a major "attraction" rounding out the two-year $25M plan. I believe the vacancies created by the loss of the rides at the front of the park will be filled with more substantial buildings & infrastructure (over time) that will allow them to flesh out their Halloween and Holiday events. IMO, if they don't seize the opportunity to relocate the carousel to the former location of Helivator, they're nuts. There's ZERO charm/interest to the front entrance plaza. Should the Fairgrounds ever plan to re-route perimeter road, it would obviously benefit the park greatly. But, as I understand, that's still a long-range dream. That having been said, it seems ironic that Hershend is clearing the rides from a side of the park on which a newly-routed road would need to go. The relocation of the rides could be killing two-birds with one stone - should the fairground ever move forward with a re-route. But for now the focus is on building the new Wing/Hall behind the existing West Wing. That's planned for the rear of the fairgrounds - not near or around KK. When that hall is complete, they will then move to the second phase and replace the West Wing & West Wing Pavillion. The WW Pavillion is adjacent to the entrance plaza of KK only. Of note, the renderings I've seen of the Fairgrounds remodel still show the road dissecting KK. (See pic below) One main issue that has always prevented the re-location of the perimeter road is the State Fair Midway. The Midway rides are all placed in the exact area where the new road would need to go - and there's electrical infrastructure placed in the lot that powers the rides and attractions. Not to mention the road would now dissect the SF midway from the park. During the State Fair - they "merge" the park with the Midway. But there's also been a long-standing rumor dating back to the Six Flags days that there's an intention to "flip" the entry of the park. As I understand, both Six and Hart discussed the possibility of pushing the main entrance to the (former) T2 area. With parking being placed in the lot adjacent to Kentucky Flyer. KK is still a mediocre (at best) half-day park. Here's hoping it can grow and improve. However it still fights many of the same battles it always has - mainly perception by the locals. That is, and always will be their greatest challenge.

  12. Regardless of what goes on the tomb raider building - top spin, mad house, rollercoaster, etc I'm looking at it as it'll be better than only using the building for a haunt maze that has seen better days

  13. In my opinion, I wouldn't mind a retheme of Action Zone. For a unique theme, they could make the area an old medieval Britain theme tied around Banshee (I know the Banshee comes from Irish folklore, but Ireland was once a colony under the British Empire). The rides could get a medieval or Camelot theme to them, such as renaming Drop Tower to Dungeon Drop and giving the area a fresh repaint, possibly surround the ride with a concrete façade made to look like stone much like the entrance to Adventure Express and Sol Spin for Adventure Port. Then again, I wouldn't mind a DC Universe overlay of Action Zone. With that said, Banshee is a well established coaster with a great theme and The Bat pays homage to the original coaster in the park's history, so they would probably need to be annexed into Adventure Port or the last bit of Oktoberfest. With that separation, the seating area in the center of Action Zone can be removed with seating for Ice Scream Zone dispersed around in other locations. A new entrance portal can be constructed in its place taking guests into the West side of Action Zone where the DC superheroes and villains greet guests. Drop Tower with a red blue and yellow color scheme and the Superman emblem 300 feet above Mason would look pretty sweet in my opinion. I will agree to a point that IP at regional theme parks can be very hit or miss and in some cases tacky. But one must remember that Kings Island was built with IP as a selling point; Taft Broadcasting had purchased Hanna-Barbera Studios in 1966 and wanted to utilize it in the theme park market and Coney Island wanted to move away from the Kellogg Avenue site to grow and expand to compete with Fess Parker's proposed project in Boone County and approached Taft to incorporate their Hanna-Barbera license. If done tastefully, it can work well, and as long as International Street, Coney Mall, Rivertown, Adventure Port, Area 72 and the last bit of Oktoberfest are left to their unique themes, a DC area of the park in place of Action Zone is a welcome addition in my book.

  14. Sell - they are never going to do something that large scale especially when it comes to altering one of the most iconic rides in the park to that extreme. I'm not sure who thinks it's a good idea to make the world's longest wooden coaster even longer (and accept risks involved of potentially ruining the ride in some way) rather than just build a new ride which does carry some risk of maintenance issues but at least you aren't losing an existing ride if it doesn't work out. Buy or Sell - Dollywood will retire Blazing Fury and replace it with a new RMC version of the ride by 2030 much like SDC did with Fire in the Hole.
