  1. Both the track and train had to be strong enough to support each other in case the train were to stop upside down and be caught by the under wheels... and its a good thing because it was put to the test...
  2. This? This is why you HATE Cedar Fair. Wow, and I thought I had good reasons for not likeing them [capacity based rather than satisfaction based, poor guest service, operational changes, pay cuts, loss of good managers, etc.] but your reasons just blow mine away. PS, please dont start a rumor about KI's name changing, even Cedar Fair isn't stupid enough to do that.
  3. Having ridden both FOF's and Jokers Jinx, I can testify that the ride is considerably more intense without any brakeing at all, however personally I prefer the slow turns of FOF to the jerky turns of Jokers Jinx. Jokers Jinx was built however with 2 trains in mind only where FOF ran 3 and had capabilities for 4. Much of this stems from the face that Jokers Jinx does not utilize an unload platform.

And because they wanted to wait for the price of scrap steel to go up... PS. You really should make some effort to use, even a little punctuation.
  5. It also says type: Wood. You know Son of Beast once had a steel frame loop with wooden track, I dont know you may not have been here long enough to remember. Anyway nobody went around saying that Son of Beast had a hybrid loop or that it wasnt a wooden coaster because of it. There are two types of coasters in the industry: Wood, and Steel Within those types are catagorys: Hybrid, Inverted, Standup, Launched, etc. All you're doing is splitting hairs.
  6. I think you need to re read that article. No where does it say that Kings Island spent 40 million on the ride. It states explicitly : "In addition, the Son of Beast represents the largest single investment in the history of Paramount's Kings Island and tops off a two-year $40 million capital expansion program at the 364-acre theme park. What that means is that the price of Son of Beast, Drop Zone, Face Off and all the renovations of Adventure Village to become Action Zone cost 40 Million dollars.
  7. No you cant. The reason is because the G-Trains are not built to hold the entire weight of the train soley by the under wheels. The old premier trains WERE built to do so, which is what made them so heavy. In the case of an emergency the, trains must be able to hang upside down within the loop without giving way. The premier trains were built to withstand this and were put to this test.
  8. http://www.wcpo.com/content/webcams/kingsisland.aspx Updated every minute or so.
  9. I would probably guess Universal. They always seem to have something that they can theme it to. This looks to me to be like the future of the Spidierman ride at IOA.
  10. Yea and you know Son of Beast was running great on July 8, 2006 too...
  11. Yea well people said the exact same thing about TTD when it opened. I think you'd be surprised at the abilities of the people that build these rides. So have them build a robocoaster and allow them 2 years to get the bugs worked out. I see no reason why one could not be built next year provided a park wanted to fund one.
  12. Well you're absolutely wrong about Tomb Raider. I can assure you that Tomb Raider is closed because at its current state, it is not able to run, and is now undergoing mechanical repairs. Kings Island did NOT close it because they wanted to.
  13. True^ It is not as if the ride does not get ridden right now. To the general public, the ride is still pretty popular.
  14. Does anyone else remember when they haunted phantom theater the first year. Man that was incredible. To think that they had people running around inside the ride! Man that would never fly now. The power has to be off just to go into Scooby Doo now. Or when they haunted the antique cars. Route 666, that was great. Same thing people running around the ride. Now I know that you were alowed to walk the track at tiques but still having that many people on the ride course was pretty crazy. Good ole days...
  15. [quote name=I like the idea, but it seems like it would be a mechanical nightmare. Are you saying that we should discontinue the advancement of amusement park rides because of the required maintinence. Personally in 20 years, I hope that the most advanced thing in the amusement industry is the dive coaster. You yourself in your signature clearly love TTD. I think its pretty clear that this ride has been a mechanical nightmare. Not to mention if the operators even feel a slight mist, they have to shut down for rain. Even Dick Kinzel said TTD was the worst business decision Cedar Fair ever made. Are you wishing that TTD had never been built because of the mechanics? All rides have problems. That doesnt mean they shouldnt be built. Also as far as I know hasnt the floor show for the Robocoaster at IAAPA been rather...stationary. You can get in the seat and the arm will move around but as far as actual movement on the track there is very little to none. I think this ride has incredible potential, especially once its on a circuit. Obviously this wont be stuck on a 250 foot hyper coaster track, but I still think this ride could considerably raise the bar in terms of thrill ride experience.
  16. About 4:45 give or take. Depending on where the trains are in front of you depends on how fast the lift you're on will go. Lift one goes slow untill the train in front clears lift two then it speeds up untill it gets to the very top and drops you over the edge. Lift two starts fast because it has to accomidate for the speed of the train, then slows down untill the thrain ahead clears the safety brakes. Once that train clears the safety's lift 2 speeds back up untill it gets to the top and once again drops you over the hill. Train speeds also vary throughout the day. Untill everything warms up, the speeds can be all over the place. I've seen the first empty train in the morning go through the break shed at 7mph. Talk about scary, wondering if we're gonna have to go push at the quick dip. Usually during startups they chill around 14mph. The first hour, with varying train loads you will see speeds between 16-24mph. Usually thorughout the day it stays at about 27mph with an average load. Speeds at the bottom of the first and second lifts are usually right around 52-54mph, these speeds are extremely consistant. Obviously to answer your question: There is NO set time length. But usually the operators like to say "see ya back in 4:45" which is usually a pretty good guess.
  17. Does anyone know if they will continue the show into post season. After all it is called: Endless Summer. I probably wont be able to go untill then and would like to see it.
  18. Its not something thats that easy to just fix. I cant stand when people act like Kings Island trys to keep their rides closed. Like KI plans to shut down the rides, as though Kings Island DOESNT want all the rides to be open. Worst question: When will the ride re-open; as though when the ride broke down it had a timer that no matter what would tell when it would fix itself. Like we just decided to shut down for 26 minutes.
  19. Found it! It's for Vekoma and Amec Dynamic Structures': ROBOCOASTER This is the prototype however the twisted track is what it is meant to go on. Article: Another show highlight was the RobCocoaster track system by Amec Dynamic Structures: This concept combines the RoboCoaster by the German company KUKA known from Legoland Germany and Denmark with a track-based, powered roller coaster featuring a 3D track. The seat unit was delivered by Vekoma Rides Manufacturing. The implementation of this high tech development is a demanding task for the Canadian professionals at Amec, a company with the know how of more than 45.000 employees and countless successful projects in dynamically stressed steel construction. In the last years Amec was involved as a third party in numerous roller coasters as well as theme park projects for Universal or the Walt Disney Company. The RoboCoaster track system is an advanced roller coaster track for robotic ride vehicles. The ride vehicles consist of a 4-axis robotic ride platform mounted on a unique ride vehicle chassis. The RoboCoaster makes use of the latest "state of the art" robotics control technology, and generates smooth and seamless motion profiles, including complete rolls and overhead loops across the whole range of motion. It is capable of 2g's, yet is smooth at very low speeds, with a repeatability of 0.2mm. Using motion path planning currently available from one of the world's largest robot manufacturers, the motion of the robot joints and vehicle may be combined to give an infinite variety of passenger motion profiles. Amec has the capability to supply a complete range of competitive RoboCoaster track solutions in the medium and high capacity amusement ride sectors. The RoboCoaster track system is primarily for use in an enclosed environment to make the most of its high impact visual presence and interactive capabilities. It is also well suited for use as an open air ride designed to fit with any park, to suit all geographical, environmental and layout requirements. The track system may be floor mounted or overhead mounted, depending on the budget and creative intent of the attraction. The next level of this project will result in the virtual theming of the ride which incorporates a high impact visual presence, infinite variety of motion and interactive capabilities. The computer animation will truly bring the next generation of rides to this industry. Rides that create experiences such as flying an F16 Fighter Jet or riding in a Mars Rover are maybe the future... Inter alia Amec Dynamic Structures is involved in the new track system for Disneyland´s Space Mountain, reopening 2005, as well as the movable platform for Soarin´ Over California at its sister park. Here, riders experience a daring flight above a gigantic Imax screen in a glider. A copy of this E-ticket ride is currently under construction for the 2005 season of the Epcot Center at Walt Disney World. Two trains on one track... okay... if you say so... I'm kind of suprised no one else has heard of this. I remember seeing this when I was sifting through IAAPA's event photos in 2004. The idea itself has been around for several years. Just google robocoaster and you'll find all sorts of pictures.
  20. I thought that it implied that there would be two trains on the same track, but wasn't sure... thanks for the insight. He doesnt know that for sure. Actually that is not what that is for at all. I have an article around here somewhere about it but I have no idea what I did with it. Personally I cannot imagine how you can invision two trains on that one piece of track.
  21. Because my post was not all about you. Did I ever say you were wrong, no. I quoted you because I agreed with some of the things you said AND because you asked about the steam. It was SOB_TOM who mentioned the person that I was speaking of the "master-board". Also if you read, all I said was, In addition I was trying to say that the reason that the ride is down does not have to do with a problem within the PLC, "there was no ONE master board that just "went out." In addition I wasnt trying to prove that there werent cabinets full of boards and relays on it, I was trying to say that the problem was not within the relay cabinets. BOTTOM LINE: The ride has many cabinets filled with relays, wires, and boards that are all programmed through a desktop computer with the ride program on it. Every time the ride runs the computer watches to make sure the ride hits every mark, doesnt trip any faults, doesnt exert to much power etc. Currently Tomb Raider the Rides problems, lie outside the realm of computer problems. Their current issues are a much more... mechanical... Since you did not answer my question then I will not cut you any slack. Don't quote me and then give the impression that the quote is wrong, if I am wrong about some thing I usually am the first to admit it. If you quote some one and agree with them, then say that you agree with them. Don't make comments that make it sound like you are trying to correct the quote. My BOTTOM LINE is make comments that are appropriate to the person you are quoting. I personally don't care what is wrong with the ride, I have my own problems with the equipment I am working on. Also I thought that SOB_TOM was answering my question to Boddah1994 about his avatar, and had nothing to do with TR:TR. Boddah1994 answered that question before you even quoted me. Whatever. You caught me. I was definately out to soil your reputation. I'm sure you know exactly whats wrong with Tomb Raider right now. Happy Now? Jeez its like Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing here.
