Many forget an obvious choice. The carousel. Shaggy

What was not mentioned is besides B&M, there have been other MAJOR steel coaster designers/fabricators visiting PKI over the past year.... Shaggy

The PKI tie-in to Survivor is Viacom. Viacom owns both Paramount Properties as well as CBS. Hence the promotional opportunities at PKI. I still doubt we will ever see a Survivor finale filmed at PKI. Shaggy

While a good promotional opportunity, I cannot see Mark Burnett, the mastermind behind the show and one of the most savvy tv producers to date, allowing his hit show to have it's most important episode filmed next to a rollercoaster in an amusement park in a city that has absolutely no tie-in with the show. But stranger things have happened. Shaggy

What would I like to see? Well, I am pretty pessimistic about the shows at PKI. Amusement Park Entertainment is extremely lackluster and does not entertain me. Although I see it's value, I really have no distinct opinions on what shows they add. The shows are always pretty bad, so it's hard to differentiate what type of bad show I would like to see. ;-) Shaggy

It takes up about half the footprint of King Cobra. The building you see is not only the operators booth, but also is a queue house of sorts. The line will have a normal queue outdoors, but just before reaching the ride load area, the queue line will go through this building. The que enters under the swing on the side nearest to Festhaus, It then heads right towards the Sling Shot. There will be wrap-around queues in the space between the Sling Shot and the ride itself. As I said a second ago, the line then wraps through the house and up to the load platform. Shaggy

The Paramount Theatre will house a new magic show this season, there will be a country show, karoke (sp??) is back as well as a new Nick show. Not sure about the showplace, but I am sure something will appear. Shaggy

When you enter the area of "Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle" you will first see a gated entrance with the ride sign overhead. This entrance is farthur to the left that the former Phantom Theatre entrance gate. You will cross the bridge, then go down that curving staircase and then enter the building where the queue line will reside. The midway in front of Phantom Theatre/Scooby is higher than the level at which you enter the queue building. For PT, you walked a short path that gradually descended down to the building entrance. For Scooby you will walk down that curving staircase. There is no longer an oustide path like Phantom Theatre. Shaggy

There is an employee cut-through that goes from the gated area next to the main entrance of WWC in Rivertown (under Thornberrys) then cuts through the Thornberries area, down the train tracks and up to the WWC pump house. Ride ops then cross the bridge over the WWC lift to the turntable. That is one of the reasons that the train blows it's horn when rounding the WWC /Thornberrys area. To warn any employees that may be potentially crossing the tracks. Shaggy

"I doubt they would build an adult haunted house, a lot of people don't like being scared..." That doesn't explain the success of Fearfest though ;-) "The Ferris Wheel used to sit somewhere around where the Festhaus is." It sat in the over-grown spot of land next in between the Festhaus and what is now a "Guess Your Weight and Age" game. Rides that I would like to see at PKI? Flat rides: Spinning Teacups ride - I would love to see one of these on Coney Mall Huss Jump 2 - I would love to see one of these in Rivertown Mondial Top Scan - I would love to see this in place of the Euro Bungees Rugrats Pike like PKD - I would love to see a version of this in the Nick Central area. Coasters: B&M Hyper/Speedcoaster in the Rivertown area Indoor Spinning Wild Mouse in the the HB or Coney area Water rides: A setpoint swing thing coaster in the waterpark Possibly one of the new "spinning" rapids rides in Rivertown or the Octoberfest area. The corrigated metal screening (not sure if it is chain link fencing for sure) on Congo is only for water disruption. It gives it a "falls" feel rather than just clear water spilling down a trough. If you have seen the Hopkin's versions at other parks such as SFWOA, you will notice that the water just trickles down the drop with very little finesse. PKI's is one of the better Intamin versions of the Shoot-The-Chutes and it's cascading water has a more eye-pleasing effect. The rapid looking water hides the metal trough underneath. As others mentioned, White Water Canyon uses what amounts to pilings or corriggated steel tubes and "speed" bumps to disrupt the water in the water channel. These "speed bumps" are what causes your boat to raise and then dip resulting in the water rushing over the side of the boat. The entire water channel is a long downhill course. When WWC begins, you are a good 50 feet above where you end. Of course a lift raises boats back up to the loading/unloading platform. This downhill course addresses many needs: The water flow is regulated, the movement of boats is guaranteed, and it allows for quick drainage. Really, the water in WWC is only about 1 or 2 feet deep. Each ride op located on the attraction (The ride requires at least 7 people to operate... a rather large crew... hence it is often the first attraction to be closed when the park is low on staff) is equipped with an emergency E-stop button that when pressed haults the pumps. When the pumps stop, the ride can drain in a matter of seconds. I believe it takes only like 45 seconds max for it to drain. Any boats along the course simply float until the water gets too low and then settle down and rest on the concrete bottom. Also, along the course, there are water "turbines" that aid with the water's flow, they direct boats and they disrupt water for rapids purposes. These turbines also help "spin" the water, which in turn, spins boats. Best of all they create my favorite "surpsie" element on a rapids ride... they are an obsticle which boats can, bump tossing riders from their seats into the laps of people next to them. PKI's WWC is a bit different from some of the earlier Intamin rapids rides. PKI's does not use gates to create blocks along the course. It's predecessor, the version at PKD, does. Finally, someone metioned the water in the lake next to WWC. That is indeed what is used for the ride. The water is treated (like a swimming pool) through the filtration system used on the ride. And do you know where that water originally comes from? The parking lot. That is run-off from the lot outside the park. Shaggy

It is also great for the historical aspect. I was very much intrigued with the past of the park and returned for the first time a few seasons ago. There are still traces of the older park, and there are great artifacts located in the show building that detail it's rich history. Perhaps not big on thrills anymore, but it is a terrific testament to a park that people enjoy too much to let die. Shaggy

The map you see is indeed from 1975. I actually uploaded it because someone on another board was questioning the existance of a ride called the "Cuddle Up" that used to reside on Coney Mall. The Cuddle-up was the spinning ride that came from Cincinnati's Coney Island when KI was opened. It was a teacup-like attraction in which the tubs could enterchange on turntables. It shared the building with the Dodgems, before the 1985 remodeling of Coney mall. In answer to the other questions posed here, Coney Mall has had three different names since the parks inception. It has been called "Coney Island","Old Coney" and"Coney Mall." The reason for it's name change was due to confusion with the former park. Once Cincinnati's Coney Island again blossomed into it's own park, KI began calling that themed area simply "Coney Mall" since most residents if the Cincinnati area refer to the former park now as "Old Coney" or "Coney Island." They changed the name to help clear confusion. Shaggy

Did you know that that movie was shot by Iian Henry, a Canadian ACE member? That is right, he nearly worships the Mondial ride at PCW and made that video of it. PKI contacted Iian and asked if they could use it for promotional purposes. He agreed and the rest is history. So, to any of you budding ride filmers out there... you never know who may be watching and what may come of it. But dont' take this to mean that you should pester any park and ask them to use your videos. If they want it, they will seek you out. Shaggy

Don't know about the webcam. Not a priority, and I doubt any maintenance fellas want to climb to the top of the Tower in these temperatures to move it. Not sure about Delirium updates on the PKI site. I son't work for the park. But I would suspect that we will see new pics as Delirium begins to rise over the next week or so. Shaggy

As far as the completion dates of the new attractions..... as far as I know as long as they are ready to run for the media day... all should be good.... That is probably their completion date ;-) Watch for Delirium to rise over the next week. The PKI skyline will not be the same again! Shaggy

Only if you wear a cape, that has 10 years worth of dust on it while waving your arms up and down and facing your head to your feet. Seemed to work for the Maestro. Shaggy

The main thing to keep in mind with the interior of Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle is that most everything is flat. Whereas the props in Phantom Theatre were all very realistic, Scooby takes on a much more cartoonish feel. It has a smaller and more intimate feel as well, rather than the open warehouse ambiance that PT had. Although I wish things were a bit more dimensional, some of the effects and surprises are fan-freaking-tastic. What was odd was being in a place so familiar in layout, yet so different looking. The outside of the building will look just like the drawing on the PKI site. You will enter through large iron gates similar to the old PT entrance. However, this new gate is furthur to the left. You will cross an elaborate bridge to the building. The building facade is nearly twice as tall as the old PT front. The entrance is actually on the corner of the building as opposed to one side. The entrance path spirals down into the Grand Hall. Not much work has been done to the Grand hall, which is where the que will be. When you enter there are new walls that will filter out the light and make the interior darker and the effects more well.... effective. The upper "balcony" that surrounded the que and was home to Maestro #1 is being ripped out and the former "lightening windows" sealed up. This area will have fun stuff with a storyline that sets up the ride. The old organ that the Maestro figure played while in the que of PT was literally smashed into pieces on the floor. Don't feel too bad for it though, it was only a plywood box ;-) Shaggy

I am sure any remodeling vs demolishing decisions are made depending upon the needs. For instance, when Adventure Village turned into Action Zone, the former Congo Curio shop was dempolished and replaced with a brand new facility to house Ice Scream Zone. I guarantee you that it was all due to the need for plumbing and more electrical. But on the flip side, the former Cafe Kilimanjaro simply had it's facade changed to suit the new area. The building was not torn down, simply because it had the requirements that the new Stunt Crew Grill needed. Shaggy

Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle only utilizes the former Phantom Theatre area. It was not expanded into any part of the Enchanted Theatre. The Enchanted Theatre will be used for character costume storage and dressing rooms. But that is it. Shaggy

I was fortunate enough to take a walking tour of PKI the other day, and got to see for myself how truly fantastic the new Scooby ride at PKI will be. I'll post pics from the rest of the park later, but for now, here are some links you may enjoy. FYI, these are my own pics, taken by little ol me, and I would appreciate that anyone consult me before using elsewhere. Enjoy!
