Well, I went to the park that day with the sole intention of riding Firehawk. The second ride was a result of meeting up with some other people later in the afternoon that wanted to ride it, I went for a second ride. The line was partially long that day because only the red train was running. Diamondback will have a lot higher capacity than what Firehawk has, so hopefully the lines won`t be too horrendous. Although the forecast for Saturday keeps getting a little warmer with a slight (30%) chance of rain and a high near 70. Can`t really go wrong with that forecast. It beats rain or a high of 50 any day!

Besides it will be a nice chance for me to have a momentary break from thesis design work (even though I have a design pin up next Wednesday). Back when Firehawk opened, not only did I wait in line nearly four hours to ride it the first time (the ride didn`t open until one, so three hours of that was standing in a line waiting for the ride to open) but I had already ridden the ride when it was at Geauga Lake. Additionally, later in the evening, I waited another hour to ride it a second time on opening day.

Yes, in the past they have only had a very small portion of International Street Open before 10am. Last year, as tigellinius said, I-Street was only open up to just shy of the entrance to Octoberfest and Nick Universe. -

You are not kidding about the bad Photoshop for Rage on Canada`s Wonderland site! They didn`t even try to remove the Eiffel Tower portion that was within the frame of the actual ride. On the subject of the gold and platinum pass holder early ride times. Typically, they have the moveable metal barricades on one of the midways where they normally have ropes. In addition to the security guard, there will be an employee checking season passes and allowing those with platinum and gold passes to enter. Typically, the metal barricade is covered with a sign with the Gold Pass logo. The closer the park gets to opening, the harder it is to move past the non-gold pass holders to get up to where the gate and security guard are at. -

the shade structures can be effective in keeping most of the queue shaded because of the angle that they are positioned at. Together with the sun angle, they can cast shadows on a majority of the queue, and hence shade most of it. That being said, areas that are under shade are not necessarily directly under the shading devices. Therefore, while one spot may be shaded, it is not protected from rain. Additionally, the material that the shade structures are made out of are not entirely water proof. They are somewhat translucent and can allow water to get through if it rains hard enough. I could go into a lot more detail on sun angles and shading devices and how they are used in buildings to reduce the passive solar heat gain, but I think that would be way too much information! -
A watch and quarters? I do not get how that is funny or a joke. Actually having worked the Rock O Planes at Coney, if people start flipping their cars upside down, it is not uncommon for loose change that is in their pockets to begin raining down on the metal grating that serves as the platform. Luckily the controls are a good distance away from the ride, but sometimes when we are loading some cars are still rocking, and sometimes change can come out of the cars.

Well then, I challenge you to find a post of Interpreter`s where his post adds no content or additional information to the topic at hand. You likely won`t find any.

This particular article was on their website. My local community paper has typos almost weekly, and has even misspelled headlines before! -

Well, the commercials that KI has been airing on both the radio and television the past few days have been making a big deal about the park opening April 18th, and being closed Sunday April 19th. And yes, the local media can be quite horrendous at times. Yesterday, WCPO (Channel 9) had an article up where they said "considered" instead of what they intended to say which was "concerned." -

I`m not certain, but I believe that may in fact be the first Math and Science Day. Which means there could be lots and lots of school kids there! -
It is all about advertising and marketing. Those cars likely will not be in the park but if I had to guess would be featured at area Ford Dealerships. The whole point of marketing and advertising is to stir up interest in the product to hopefully bring in additional revenue. Just ask Hard Rock Park about how not marketing their park turned out for them! You have to get the word out that you have a new product. On that subject, Kings Island commercials have hit the airwaves on both radio and television in the Cincinnati area the past several days.

I really like the new banners on the light poles! That was one of the things I commented on when I went to Carowinds a couple of weeks ago. The banners really added a festive atmosphere to the park. I`m glad Kings Island is incorporating some of these.

I beat you by a few seconds with the link. From now on, when you post an article like that, it is helpful to post the link. I`m not sure what the resolution is on your monitor, but I certainly couldn`t read the article until I found it on their website! -

Here is the direct line to the article on the Indianapolis Star`s website: http://www.indystar.com/article/20090409/N...0447/-1/ARCHIVE Diamondback and Kings Island are featured on page two of that article. -
Yes. It was for a while set to five minutes, but has since been adjusted by Dane to just be a minute.

Again, an update from Coney can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.ph...id=121898760525 And flightoffear1996, the Zoom Flume was still popular with guests. In fact, many pass holders were sad to see it go. Coney has a season pass only day at Sunlite Pool after Labor Day to give pass holders one last chance to ride it. "Or maybe they didnt have enought money to replace it?" Right, so that is why they are investing $1.8 million in the new Twister slide this year? There is an old saying, if it isn`t broken, don`t fix it.
-
It could very well be. Dane is the one that installed the patch. He might know more specifics.
-
And it should be noted that the patch Ryan spoke of has been applied to the forums and will hopefully prevent such spam PM attacks in the future.
-
Yes, the Zoom flume was in operation from 1977 until the end of the 2008 season. Keep in mind that the Zoom Flume was built at a time when water parks were virtually non existent. The Beach didn`t open until 1984 and Kings Island`s Boomerang Bay (Water Works when it opened) did not open until 1989. While it may not have been the fastest water slide around, it still pleased park guests and was a popular attraction on warmer days. There are many that will deeply miss the ride, even with the new multi-million dollar Twister opening this year.

Some or all of you may have received yet another spam PM from a user named "muzrinkl" within the past half hour. Do not open the link in the PM and promptly delete the personal message. The member has already been banned. Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused. As always, do not open messages or emails from sources or people you do not know or do not trust. Thanks, -Robbie

True that. I learned the hard way with that one when my computer died back in February. I had to restore it to the original factory settings. Luckily, my thesis stuff was backed up, but I lost some personal files and a project for another class. (I had the PDF file for that project, but not the original InDesign file that was used to create that file). I now back everything on my computer up on my external hard drive once a week, including email, just in case something like that happens again, at most I will have lost a week`s worth of data.

And, the second lift hill on The Beast is 141 feet tall, not exactly what most would consider low to the ground... You are after all above the tree tops.

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.ph...0525&ref=mf These pictures are supplied by Coney Island. The last pictures (picture 20) is the future splash pool. The steel for the ride just arrived at the park this week. I actually drove by the park on my way home from UC today, and they had already placed a considerable amount more of the steel. (That includes the steel for the slide platform where guests will actually board the slides).

Coney's Appalachian Festival w/Special KICentral Discount
CoastersRZ replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Coney Island Central
And please note that Coney`s classic rides are NOT in operation that day. In the past, this is the weekend that Coney`s rides have opened for the year. I`m not sure if they will be open this year or not, but admission to the rides has not been included in the cost of admission to the festival in past years. -
Safety restraints are there for a reason. They should be used in a proper manner, and be snuggly fitting to your body. After all, restraints are there to keep you safe during the ride. Leaving excess space between yourself and the safety restrain jeopardizes your safety, and in turn the reputation of the park, if something bad were to happen. Safety should be your top priority when riding amusement park rides, as they are after all, big pieces of machinery. That being said, there is a difference between the restraint being firmly secured and being stapled. Primarily, if you pull down the restraint until it reaches a slight resistance that is fine. (Ie, no two inch gaps between your thighs and the restraints). However, if a ride op pushes down on your lap bar as hard as possible and staples you in, effectively digging your cell phone into your thigh and cutting off circulation to your leg, that is too tight. I speak from experience when a ride op did that to me this year, and made my entire ride completely unenjoyable. Remember safety is of paramount importance. Having been a ride operator at an amusement park, I can attest to the fact that some people will try and circumvent safety measures (particularly rocking the seats on the ferris wheel, despite numerous verbal and written warning). Remember, that you as a rider have a responsibility to ride in a safe manner that will not contribute to injury or harm to yourself or others. (Yes, Ohio has rider responsibility laws governing such a thing).
