Kings Island is now open until MIDNIGHT on Saturdays in July. From Kings Island`s main page at VisitKingsIsland.com:

Well perhaps you need to define "seven coaster trains" to seven full length wooden coaster trains. There are some rides, like all the Wild Mouse coasters, that feature lots of trains, albeit they are one car trains and not six car trains like on The Beast. Robbie, who just "had to" to steal the line from Terpy.

Strickers Grove's Teddy Bear
CoastersRZ replied to ZosoBeast's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
And to throw in a bit of Coney trivia, here it is. The Teddy Bear is based off of the ride of the same name that opened at Cincinnati`s Coney Island in 1935. It was designed by Herb Schmeck of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and operated until Coney "closed" on September 6th, 1971. The ride stood 40 feet tall, which is actually two feet taller than the height of the Fairly Odd Coaster! -
Sunlite Pool at Coney Island was open for three hours today, before closing, also due to the cold and lack of attendance. Coney`s classic rides stayed open all day to very light crowds.

I wouldn`t look for a fast pass system to be implemented at Kings Island. Even the walk on weekends gold pass holder perk, which was similar to Disney`s fast pass system, has now fallen by the wayside. The problem with that perk was that it resulted in the general public that were not pass holders becoming upset at people "cutting" line with the perk. I think it would be safe to say that the perk was abandoned to alleviate problems with upset guests.

Due to inclement weather, Coney Island has closed for the remainder of the day, June 3, 2009. Sunlite Pool will be open tomorrow from 10am until 8pm, and the rides will operate from 11am until 8pm.

Well, it technically is no longer a MCBR, as it is not a block brake. It is now used as simply a trim brake with magnetic trims (which are not adjustable unless some of the permanent magnets are removed. Back when they had the skim brakes, that brake shed was in fact used as a block brake section. Under the new braking system, the train must clear lift two, before the next train can leave lift one. Under the old system, the train just had to clear the brake shed before the train left lift one, I believe. That red object that people have seen by the brake shed, is I believe an object that fits into the bed of a pick up truck. Similar to this:.

Fireworks Kick off Extended Coney Schedule
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
One recommendation for the July 3rd and the Balloon Glow. Get there early!! The rides are virtually empty early in the day, but the crowds start to roll in around 5 and 6. Parking becomes very congested as the time the balloons "glow" approaches. The 3rd has typically been the busiest day of Coney`s season the last several years (although last year it was stymied by rain). And the firework display is always a nice display, over the banks of Lake Como. -
Is Disney Phoning It In?
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Correct me if I`m wrong, but the only major thing that is underway at the four Disney parks right now (at least that has been publicly announced with construction underway) is a major overhaul of Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom. -
Train derails at Louisville Zoo
CoastersRZ replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
WCPO has the story as well, and includes some aerial images provided by a Louisville tv station, showing the derailed train. http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story/Louis...FxgCGsXOeg.cspx -
Is Disney Phoning It In?
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I too am a little surprised by the lack of new signature attractions down at Disney`s Florida complex. It seems most of their attention is on DCA. I would have thought they would have tried to have a signature new attraction in place at WDW to combat Islands of Adventure`s Harry Potter themed area, which will surely be a hit. -
Fantasy Farm Memorial Website
CoastersRZ replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
That is a nice little tidbit on the Wheel of Fortune ride. I did not know that it still operates at a park today. And the Tilt A Whirl from Fantasy Farm continues to operate at Coney Island, Cincinnati. -
Starting this year on June 13th, Coney`s classic rides will be open until 10pm on Saturdays. To kick off the extended schedule, a Rozzi`s fireworks display will occur at 10pm on Saturday June 13, 20, and 27th. The rides will be open Saturdays beginning on June 13th from 11am until 10pm. Hours on Sunday are 11-9, and 11-8 M-F. Sunlite pool hours are 10-8pm, seven days a week.

Yep. So Diamondback adds a lot of capacity to the park. This attraction takes away some guests from other rides and areas of the park, since nothing was removed to build Diamondback. A very simplistic example follows. Assume park XYZ has ten rides. Assume that said park has 10,000 people in the park at a specific point in time. Assuming that 75% of the people are either on the rides, or riding the rides, each ride has 750 people. Now, if park XYZ adds an additional attraction, using the same numbers, there are now 681 people at each ride, as opposed to 750. Granted, this is a very simplistic model, but illustrates the point quite well. With an added attraction comes more park capacity. More park capacity means that a 20,000 person crowd doesn`t seem as crowded as it once was as there is another ride that "dilutes" the crowds at existing attractions. Does that make sense?

There is a lot more to a park than just coasters! And I was at the Ferris Wheel all day today (I worked a double and stayed at the ride for both shifts). We only had one ride where we loaded every single car. The weather today was near perfect! You could not have asked for a better day.

millennium force cable
CoastersRZ replied to raptorcp21's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Which is why tonight`s Platinum Pass holder ERT has been rescheduled from Millennium Force to Top Thrill Dragster AND Magnum XL 200. See here: http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/index.cfm -

Flight of Fear has the same number of trains as Joker`s Jinx, but each train does NOT have the same number of cars. Joker`s Jinx has six cars with 24 people per train. Flight of Fear on the other hand has five cars per train for a total of 20 riders per train.

I agree. Saturday Sunday, logistically at least would work better. I mean, assuming I have a full time job by then, I won`t have to use a personal day to experience both days if it is on Saturday Sunday. Also makes it easier for those in school to attend. However, that being said, if all the events on Friday evening were relegated to the evening hours (ie night time ert), then it might be beneficial if there were say night erts on Friday and Saturday, with morning ert also on Saturday.

And a considerable amount of money was clearly spent on that building and its associated theming. If I am not mistaken, that is the same version of Top Spin that Kings Dominion has. I have not had a chance to ride the "new" Crypt yet. (I`ve been busy wrapping up school stuff). But based on reports, a ride on the Rock O Planes at Coney may be more intense than a ride on The Crypt with the new program. Just ask Gordan Bombay about that. I showed him an intense ride last summer on it! And to follow up on a comment a few pages back. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Ferris Wheels. They are a classic ride. Its a shame that Kings Island doesn`t have a true Ferris Wheel. A lot of families love riding the Ferris Wheel at Coney, even if most of them remark that Coney runs theirs faster than any other one they`ve seen.

Wow. Seriously. Is Diamondback the only thing that some of you are riding when going to Kings Island? I`ve managed to secure 48 rides up to this point, and have only been to KI once since the first day of RWW. (Which was Saturday morning, and the whole reason for me going to the park was for "homework" for my thesis presentation, since I needed some pictures from Boomerang Bay.) I mean, Diamondback is a great ride and all, but there are other things and amazing attractions too. I even rode the train when I was up there on Saturday and got to see both trains running. Always a nice site to pass the other running train!

Don`t forget that Sunlit pool is now open daily! Come out and check the all new Twister at Sunlite Pool. Rides begin daily operation next Saturday.

As pointed out, please carry out all future discussions on this subject on the already established thread. Closed.

Hey, I wasn`t at Coney yet this weekend. I have been stuck in DAAP working on my final design presentation. I finished it tonight around 11 pm, and I don`t present until Wednesday. Also, I haven`t even been over by Trabant or Round Up this year. All the days that I have worked, I have been over at the Ferris Wheel. For those who might want to go to Coney tomorrow (May 25th) you can donate three canned goods to the Freestore Foodbank, and get a pool and rides combo ticket for just $14.95. The normal price is $21.95, which equates to a $7 savings, or just over 30% off the regular price! (And I will likely be working tomorrow, since I finished my presentation).
