What was your favorite element on Diamondback?
Thrill_Biscuit replied to DropZone99's topic in KI Polls
For me it was the first drop, because it looked nothing like the animiations, and felt like it was going back under the peak! Perfect, sheer terror! Loved every minute of it! -
The Crypt so much potential. So little time...
Thrill_Biscuit replied to Atomheartmother616's topic in Coming Attractions
Excellent "outside-the-box" thinking of what to do "inside the box". Just because it was originally a 'tomb'-themed attraction doesn't necessarily mean it will always have to be. -
For my wife, it is not an official full trip to Kings Island without having blue ice cream sometime during the day. [EDIT]...nor is it a full trip if I don't eat at PotatoWorks...

I agree, not only with the experience of riding it, but of seeing it up close for the first time (and hearing it roar)... that song is going through my head right now..."An-ti-ci-pa-ya-tion it's makin' me wait..."

I had thought about having my avatar made into a shirt, but I don't know if they make transfers big enough.

Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)
Thrill_Biscuit replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Watching local news can be amusing. "Today on Local Action News for You: The newest thrill at "The King Islands", "The Diamond is Back"...er, Diamondback, I should say, is coming to strike terror into the hearts of "tri-state," um..."Miami-valley," (dang!) "Inland Empire" thrill seekers of all ages! The 230-mile-high monster --er, feet-- will plunge divers -- riders, that is, over more than six giant hills of thrills --aw, there goes my toupé?--heh heh... Anyway, the bailout will...what the... Look, will someone please fire the teleprompter guy!?!?" Back on Topic: I see ducks in the splashdown...I think? Or Canada geese... -
The commercial looks awesome in 1080P HD on our 46" Sony Bravia! The Diamondback sequences, though sharp and very glossy, are run in high-speed. I love the fusion-bass breakdown BGM. It has a "Freestyle Music" groove to it

Sigh. This long, cold winter has been dark and gloomy enough. Bring on the sun and blue skies! -
Former Hard Rock Park has a new name

WhiteHawk Park. [edit]...as in Shawn & Tony... When I hear "Freestyle Music" I think of freeform jazz ...and sideburns. -
Former Hard Rock Park has a new name
Thrill_Biscuit replied to nhimes90's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Neither do I. I see what they're trying to do, though. It seems that the narrow scope of theming around "hard rock" might have caused fans of other genres to lose interest. The name still doesn't sound like a theme park with rides. It sounds like a place to bring your instruments and have a huge jam session--something a theme park might do as a one-day event. -

Thank you, Tiggy. Now I can ride DB with full enjoyment, knowing that it's just a hypercoaster, I should really just relax. I watched some Behemoth POVs on YouTube, and saw how its restraints work. No worries now. Bring on DB! -

I'm anticipating my first ride on DB, but one thing keeps bothering me: if there are no seatbelts, and the only restraint is that aerodynamic-looking lap thing, how confident can I be that the 'restraint' won't disengage mid ride, sending me tumbling off into the verdant, lush foliage of our beloved Little Miami Valley? -
They do it because it works. Regardless of education level, status, life experience, etc., if you can get your foot in the proverbial door, you can sell anyone anything. I used to work for a soliciting company. I had to say I was with a particular political figure's office in Washington. (I wasn't. I was in Green, Ohio, and had never met the politician or anyone even remotely associated with him. I had to lie to earn my paycheck ). I followed carefully-written scripts over the phone, offering potential "donors" an "honorary chairman" position on some important-sounding committee. When I was successful, the company got anywhere from a $500 to an $8,000 "donation", and the new "honorary chairman" got a $3, Taiwan-imported gavel and a $0.50 paper document with their name on it. I felt cheesy and ashamed, but somehow met my quota every week. (I finally quit when I got sick of lying to people.) Watch out for any e-mail or PM that asks for 'help', or that comes from someone whose name or screen name you've never seen before.

I got that message. It's spam.

Have you ever seen anyone win that game? We passed by on numerous occasions and even some of the most muscular people couldn't win! The average score seemed to be between 70-80 points no matter who played. Actually, I have never seen anyone win that game. Honestly, I don't know how it transfers the force of the strike to the 'rising' of the lights. I think the old ones had a cylindrical weight that was catapulted upward based on the speed of the actuator, rather than upon the amount of force applied. Thus, if the actuator is hit by a skinny little kid with a 90 mph throwing arm, maybe he has a better chance of ringing the bell than, say, a pro wrestler giving it the ol' Hassan chop! Still, it's a great Midway mainstay, whose sound effects are as much a signature of Kings Island as the Train's whistle, the "Winner" siren near SR&R ("bow bow bow bow bow bow!), and soon, the Roar of Diamondback.

Well, ironically I'll use my 1200th post to say that I think the whole post ranking thing is fun, and the ranks chosen by the site creators are appropriate, ingenious and hilarious! Many of the high-number posters have always added real value to the threads (as opposed to few, 'reflective' posters, who fill up forums with echoes like "Yeah, I can't wait!", or "Me, too.", without really contributing to the flow of a topic). (Not sayin' I haven't been guilty of that myself sometimes )

I was born in 1969. I think ground was broken on the whole park that year, but I don't know of any rides that opened at CI. I'll read up on RZ's history, and a book my dad has from Charles Jacques about Coney Island to see if there were any.

My wife bought me an incredible (albeit early) Birthday gift. She found this tiled plate, featuring International Street the way it appeared circa 1972-1975 (it features the Sky Ride). This plate is heavy, and features shiny tiles that seem to have been hand-placed into the grout (mortar?). The back is a shiny, gold-colored enamel with a uniform, decorative pattern of cross-hatches. It looks like a unique souvenir from our favorite park's early days: Here's a close-up view: The camera phone didn't pick up the brilliance of the blue tiles. The patterns on the tiles don't depict anything, just random "marbelling". I just wanted to share this with KIC. It's going into our livingroom curio! Enjoy!

That was one of the nicest PTRs I've seen! I love Cincinnati, and your pics capture the essence of why. In any weather, that town is just so cool.

What's the Majority age group here in the Ki Forum
Thrill_Biscuit replied to ZukoGirl's topic in KI Polls
I'm in the 20-39 group....that is, until April 29th. And then I'll be the big "Four-O" (and KI will be the big "Three-Seven"). -
I like the hammer-of-strength (not sure what its real name is) game, just because of the bright, flashy lights and "theramin"-sounding sound effects. It's just neato.
