  1. Glad you had a good time. Magnum can be a bit harsh, due to it's violent EJECTOR air time. As everyone else has said, Maverick is truly amazing. From just looking t it, it looks like a fun ride but nothing compared to the steel behemoths dominating the midway. Until you get on and it takes your for the ride of your life.
  2. I actually came pretty close to getting drenched on the train, as a car came down the last hill I thought it was going to splash right inside out train car. I love how STR runs right beside the CP&LE RR.
  3. No. From someone who has ridden STR, you barely get wet. The last drop is the only thing that gets you at all wet. Coming from someone who has also ridden STR, in the very front seat, you do get SOAKED. Now if you ride in any other seat, I agree you do not get absolutely soaked, but you do get a very good splash, especially with the jets being on the last drop.
  4. I cannot wait to see what Cedar Point has up their sleeve for next year. I really wish it was a plug and play woody, but I would be satisfied with a one of a kind thrill ride. I am a coaster junkie, but at the same time I love a thrilling ride on about anything.
  5. SearchClick on the link and search Behind The Rides, it gives some description about how some of the rides at Cedar Point.
  6. I remember a while back on Cedar Point's blog with Tony and Tyler, there was a section one day where they went up with a maintenance worker to exam Millenniums lift hill. They took the elevator car to the top, the worker strapped his fall protection in, and climbed out on the track and pretty much hung over the side inspecting the track. Mind you he was doing this 310 feet in the air. EDIT-Millennium Force:Behind The Rides
  7. Cormster, I am really saddened that you did not get to ride Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. The Wolf was a very intense ride, more intense than most coasters at Kings Island. The last drop over the water and the tremendous swing length you got was a one of a kind experience. Sadly there will probably never come along another Big Bad Wolf again.
  8. After a visit to Cedar Point on a mildly crowded day, and seeing and waiting in a 45 minute to 1 hour wait for Maverick during ERT, I have learned to appreciate 15 minute wait times. Any time you see that 1/4 hour wait, it's always worth it to take a gamble and see if it is right. Kings Island is different though as the rides are not as big and in abundance as Cedar Point.
  9. Great to hear the amusement industry doing so much to help out those in need. I am definitely going to be buying that 5 for 20 deal, the money goes to a good cause, my grandmother survived breast cancer when I was 7, and that experience is something I will never forget in my life. Thank you KICentral, and thank you Kings Island.
  10. ^I remember watching that video as a young kid and wanting to ride Steel Phantom so bad. Now that I am older and look back, I am glad in a way I never got to ride it because my neck might have been broken, but wish I would have because now I will never have a chance to tackle the original Steel Phantom.
  11. I would have to rate Flight of Fear, pre-mid course brake run slow stage, as one of the st intense coasters rides I have ever experienced. The forces and the sheer act of not knowing what is going on made that ride super intense.
  12. As shown by the video , the suspended coaster concept was actually tested extensively by Arrow. Notice that the scale model has a corkscrew, and that at least two different track styles are used in the full scale test. The Bat's first riders were far from guinea pigs, as the article implies. Regarding the 4D concept, it was developed by Arrow's Alan Shilke in the mid 1990s, and based on the information he provides here it was not at the request of any one particular client (in other words, Six Flags couldn't have gone with B&M or Intamin to build the ride, because they didn't offer it). An interesting article, but not well researched it seems. That coaster in that video looks so intense, not the real life model, but the scale model. That corkscrew looks like it could put forces on the train, track, and your body like none that have ever been experienced before. Much similar to what happened with Mavericks heartline. I do agree with Browntggr though, I don't see how you can necessarily call Steel Phantom and X failures persay. I do agree though that the Steel Phantom should not have included inversions, or even typical Arrow looper trains. If you take a look at that video and watch at about the 1:47 mark, watch the headbanging going on, and this is just the bottom of the first drop.

    Favorite B&M Hyper?

I have only rode Apollo and Diamondback but I would have to give the edge to Apollo here.
  14. Agreed 110% about the strong laterals, Millennium is one of my top 10 favorite coasters and I love it and would ride it wall day, but Maverick is an out of control coaster ride that is like a bronking bull not being tamed. Maverick tops my list of coasters, along with Magnum XL-200.
  15. Here at our County Fair we have really only had one really unsafe type ride, okay I know they're not all THAT safe but still. It was a type of ride that had a long arm with two kind of rocketships on each end and spun around vertically. For the most part we have had a safe track record.
  16. Those are very nice pictures you have there, KI is really a beautiful park in the summer. Kings Island is such a lush, green place during those dog days of summer. I have also found it to be quite beautiful on those cold fall days.
  17. Welcome to KIC! Fasten your seat belt, tighten your lap bar, and enjoy the ride!
  18. I hope Vortex is not removed in the future because I actually like the coaster, one of the few and proud. However, if they did remove it I would love to see this idea go into place. I think it would be something very cool and decorative. I wish they would have done this with SOB's old loop.
  19. Good to hear that KI is going to take action to give those who were there something at least.
  20. Here is a list of my new top 10. The coasters in green indicate either new coasters or coasters that have climbed. 1.Magnum XL-200 1.Maverick 2.The Beast 3.Ride Of Steel 4.Millennium Force 5.Thunderhead 6.Top Thrill Dragster 7.Diamondback 8.Wicked Twister 9.Apollo's Chariot 10.Raptor
  21. Thank you Terpy, thank you for reading!
  22. I am still kicking myself for not buying a picture on Magnum, but I did invest in pictures of Maverick and Diamondback at Kings Island. Maverick (Me in the Duke shirt) Diamondback (Me in the Duke shirt)
  23. I truly will look back and remember all the days I have spent at Cedar Point. To me, Kings Island and Cedar Point are places that bring me true joy and no matter what type of day I am having, nothing can bring me down. I will ride the coaster when I am there, but like I said, spread it out over a couple of hours, the first drop and vertical loop are pretty good.
  24. Power Tower The bird of prey looking in your eyes before you board. In the Raptor queue line looking through the fence. Oh yes I did! Raptor entrance area. Usually the line was backed out to here during the day. A lighter shot of the vertical loop. Raptor with Blue Streak in the background. This ride is simply amazing, I love it. My pitiful attempt to get the whole skyline in. The giant wheel. Looking up Maxair's structure. MY one and true love in the world, Magnum XL-200. Magnum's station peers over the trees. That my friends, is a coaster structure. In Maverick's station looking up the launched lift. Look at that twisted Intamin goodness. More twisted track on Maverick. One of my favorite shots on Maverick I took. From the entrance to Maverick. Mantis looming over water, sorry I found Mantis very photogenic. Mantis first drop. Incoming. From the queue line looking up the stairs. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed the pictures.
  25. Top Thrill lit up at night, truly an amazing sight. Mean Streak has one of the most beautifully lit structures of any coaster at night. Not a very good picture. Milly beautifully lit up at night, once again sorry for the quality. One of my new favorites, Wicked Twister. Wicked Twister test seat. Wicked Twister entrance sign. Maxair in full swing. Maxair from the front. One of my favorite shots, the infamous Raptor Cobra Roll. Another train full of happy riders kicking the Sandusky sky! Corkscrews cold steel heart, from the TV ad for Cedar Point way back when. The Dodgem sign lit up at dusk. Shoot the Rapids final drop. Final drop with the jets going across. Mantis looking like a bird of prey at dusk. Mantis queue area at dusk.
