  1. Could it be winterfest? (Note the bolded text in the following article) I know this should probably be in rumors, but being that winterfest just ended, I thought I could post it in the main forum. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...0376/1077/rss02
  2. Although it may contradict what I said previously(I was talking about a marketing POV), about the "buy now for sell-out" presale tickets but I must counteract what you state there about things coming up. Have you ever gone to a concert? You bought tickets in advance didnt you? This is no different. You just make plans to go on that day. I agree that the WEATHER can change, but if you go to a concert at riverbend, its the same difference. I know it seems like apples to oranges here, but it is the same point. Im done arguing. Winterfest will only be as good as you make it.
  3. I think you may be on to something... Look how long people have been begging for Winterfest to come back. Perhaps Paramount says, ok, we will shut them up, bring it back, prove it to be a flop, and be done with it. Its a lot of money to bring it back though, so who knows. What I see happening in this thread could be defined as the self fulfilling prophecy. If you believe it will be great, it will be great, no matter what. No one can tell you different. Being a fan-site, negativity is not taken too well, but we have established that already. Titanic has his right to an opinion, and it may be a valid one at that. From the time winterfest was announced there was much positive and much negative on this site. Most of it was because the were charging so much to get in. Others were concerned that Paramount would screw it up. And you know what, paramount probably will, they are indeed a business, but someone in marketing must have been smoking something. Lets look at the holiday season for now, but this can be applied to all marketing rules. During the holiday season you see most of the best deals in stores. They just want to stimulate the market, and sell, sell, sell. PKI should be doing the same thing in some sort of way, whether it be parking or admission or whatever. Lets say they still dont allow season passes, but instead charge 10 bucks a person. Parking at 5 bucks is fine, because like someone said, the will probably need to scrape the lot for snow. So now a visit is the cost of a fancy meal for one night. I would guarantee double if not triple the number of people attending. At the current prices, 3:1 makes 30:20 making it more of a profit, and more people to buy junk in the park. You get the point. Its like gas stations without credit card readers generally have cheaper gas. Why? To get people in the store and buy merchandise. The fact is, the cost to run the event will remain the same. The hype about, buy now or it may get sold out, isnt going to work either. Why would you sell out if people are willing to pay? That is stupid. And if you have cheaper tickets, you are more likely to have people want to invite people (like when family is in town) to go see it. You dont need to charge more, your name will bring your customers. Sure you could go to the zoo, but people know what is there. I guess what they are banking on is the high demand they had for winterfest, and you know how supply and DEMAND works. If the demand is there, then they will pay anything to have it. Its simple, charge less, and get more people... More people in turn brings more money eventually. As far as the season pass deal. I wish they would have season pass days or whatever, but I am sure they lose enough money on me in the summer time with my season pass. Its almost not worth them selling me one, because the will lose money. My visits are worth about 4 bucks each by time the summer is over. And I dont buy any merchandise, because its overpriced. I dont buy food either, because for the 6 bucks on pretzel and pop, i can get like 5 tacos at taco bell, or 5 cheeseburgers from mcdonalds. Now, I must admit that I havent been to winterfest yet, but I do plan on going. I have had some financial problems lately, and im scrounging up enough to go to winterfest but I will go. I cannot comment on the quality of the show, but from the pictures it looks like it would be a good atmosphere to enjoy for a night. my $0.05
  4. My exact thoughts. They could put cameras anywhere and aim them anywhere if they wanted, because those little (i think they are green) sensors catch the train and set the camera off. I believe you could do it on a loop... Oh wait, didnt they do that on Vortex? Its at the bottom of the loop, granted. Drop zone would be pretty hard to do. But if like the above says, they put them on poles around drop zone, you could do like other rides and capture 4 at a time or whatever. my .02
  5. its a program that basically shows aerial fotos. Its very similar to maps.google.com only more features and details. you can see the picture he is talking about here.... http://www.google.com/maps?q=39.342662,-84...58545&t=k&hl=en
  6. I find it to be opposite. But thats just me. I ALWAYS go alone. I have not been to PKI with someone at all this season. I have probably been 15 times, and all 15 of those, I have gone alone. When you are alone, you do what you want when you want, however you want. When you go with someone, you always have to do what they want to do as well. Like stop and get food, ride the boring rides, etc. I know that sounds selfish, but believe it or not, I use PKI as a get-away, I go there for self enjoyment, not for anyone else. Sometimes I will get off work, and just drive to PKI of a couple of hours and then go home. Going alone to PKI is not all that bad.
  7. The bigger question.... Will this be your last day at PKIC? One could only hope, with your attitude.

Great info, Tom Thanks for clearing that info up!
  9. Define stuck? Are we talking about something that has happened in the station that is holding us up, such as a handicap? Or mechanical failure? I cannot recall really any time that I have been stuck on a ride, at least nothing major that I would remember...

Thats why I said "On Paper" You are right though, I mean, look how much they make on just parking at 9 bucks a car. As well as admission and everything else. One thing I always kinda look at, even though I know its not a good way to judge, is the gold pass parking area. It kinda gives you an idea of how many pass holders you have in the park that day. The rest had probably bought tickets. Although, as a passholder, I never park in the vip parking...

If they would just put a webcam on the top of the tower, like the one at aroundcinci.com we wouldnt have that problem. But maybe thats why they dont have one, so we will come out anyways, and instead of wasting the drive, go in and waste time, and THEN drive back home. Anyways, about that spot in the middle that they dont own, It belongs to "Warren County Comissioners" and it is .9 acres. FYI, If I am reading this info correctly... On paper, Kings Island is worth $54,000,000 dollars. Also, I dont know what to make of this, but...

With a lot of talk of expansion and ride removal. I was looking up how much land PKI had. They have around 630 Acres (not including the campground) total, which does include the parking lot and water park. I forget what they say they have used up, but I see room for expansion without the need to remove rides... I also was wondering what the (appears to be) building is WAY BACK behind The Racers???
  14. Ill be there. I cant wait. I hope the weather holds out...
  15. If you could get War of the Worlds on here that would be cool Just kidding. I like the idea of the behind the scenes video. Or something like, the day in the life of a PKI employee. Both of which we will probably never see due to PKI's strict confidentiality rules.
  16. I have done some work with the "rozzi's" if you will. The Rozzis concentrate on the BIG shows, perhaps PKI's show, and the small shows are done by sub-contracted pyrotechnicians, who work for rozzis. I have met the guy who developed the firing system ( http://www.pyromasterllc.com/ )in which WEBN uses, and more than likely PKI use, as well as Disney, as he told me. For example, This 4th of July, I will not meet any Rozzi, but we will be using Rozzi's fireworks. Our show normally worth about $10,000 dollars and usually lasts about 20 minutes. The largest shell that was shot last year was 6 inches. Recently last spring, I helped with show that was choreographed and there were shells as large as 12 inches (picture a shell the size of a medium sized turkey you would have for thanksgiving) it ran about $14,000 dollars. And by the way, contrary to popular belief, Rozzis do not make ALL (they do make some) of their fireworks. Many are still ordered from China. Most of the ones I seen for our show was from Vulcan.
  17. Here is a great article from the FDA about O2 bars. You should read it. http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2002/602_air.html
  18. Hmm, Thats funny. The sign I saw looked like this. Sorry about the quality, my camera phone isnt that great...
  19. You are starting to sound like you are obsessed man. Its one thing to say they looked nice or whatever, but to keep going on and on about it, I think it sounds disrespectful. The only thing different about those "Sexy Outfits" is the fact that they had pink shirts on. Its not like they were wearing anything provocative. And as far as the short shorts, show me one female employee there that does not have short shorts (other than pants) -- there arent many. I saw what they were wearing, and like I say, the only difference was the color of the shirt. Try showing them some respect. Dont you think they would get tired of people like you saying stuff like that. I know I would probably get tired of it. </Soapbox>
  20. I guess no one got the Hoffa thing, but that was funny. Funniest thing I have heard all day.
  21. Water. Its free, and I try to spend as little as possible at the park. I can go all day on just water. Then when I leave, before the trip home, I will have me some taco bell or something. For the same 3 bucks for a pop at the park, I can buy 2 tacos and a drink.
  22. Drove by this morning and I saw the crane up and working on it. That was about 9 am. I know whats wrong with it too... Its broken. And Im not a mechanic. I just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. </badjoke>
