  1. Random thought: I wonder what the fence will look like once they're done building everything. Will they be painted or "bare" wood? Leaving them bare would be cheaper, but wouldn't look as nice. Putting plants in front would also look nicer than being left bare, but would be more work to take care of.
  2. The left side being heavy is the biggest issue I've been having as I continue to play with the logo. The added height on the "K" makes it harder to place on the map I've been making and would be a little tricky on letterheads/the wavy scheme Cedar Fair put on their ads. I tried stacking the words for the KECO park I'm trying to design and it looks much better to me. (If you would like to know more and possibly help design, there is a new thread in the Off-Topic forum). Below is the stacked logo for that park. This looks much more balanced! You may be able to flatten it out a little depending on what program you're using. I'm on Adobe Illustrator since it's what I know how to use, but it was hard to recreate each letter without drawing it from scratch. I'd be interested to see more if you do choose to flatten it out!
  3. I think it's a fun idea that could also play into the "Kings" part of Kings Island, but between the two I would rather have Grain & Grill. IMO the original dining concepts are better than franchises like Chik-fil-A, Subway, and Starbucks. I will say if the park was forced to change out some of their dining options for franchises then I would be super open to getting a Burger King.
  4. The Kings Crown Some logo ideas for your weekend enjoyment. I originally tried to completely replicate the whimsical font seen on the 1971 park sign below. That didn't work out so I made my own font (a modified Tuppence) with the crown from the billboard. I really like having the crown. I don't know if I like having the crown and the flag, but the way the curve flows (in the bottom logos) is kinda cool. In my mind the flag could stay the similarity between logos in the Six Flags chain. It's playful, references the park name, and calls back to a piece of park history.
  5. If given the choice, what name would you pick for a rebranded Kings Island Soak City waterpark? I'm working on a personal project that involves making a map of realistic additions/changes I would make to Kings Island. One idea involves rebranding Soak City like California's Great America (South Bay Shores), Carowinds (Carolina Harbor), and Cedar Point (Cedar Point Shores) have. My goal is to move the theme a little away from "generic tropical waterpark" and more toward "let's play in the creek/river", a la Disney's former River Country waterpark. Most of the ideas listed play toward that river theme and some could be considered references to Cincinnati's river history/identity, the Little Miami River (which KI is right next to), and the way that the KI&MV RR links the dry park and the waterpark. Feel free to vote for multiple name ideas and suggest your own below!
  6. Solar panels in the parking lot would do some wonders for Kings Island. The benefits everyone have listed would be more than worth the trouble IMO. There are other good practices that would also improve the parking lot experience, so the park would not necessarily need to install solar structures across the entire lot.
  7. unfortunately, plastic-y corporate-y logos are cheap and easy and are just what a corporation overseeing 42 decently sized parks would need if they were to rebrand. We could assume there are some parks that are already unique enough and knock, let's say, 5 new logos off of that list. That leaves 37 parks that would need new logos. That's a lot of moolah to spend between logo design, manufacturing of signs and materials, and other accoutrement. Good corporate branding practices dictate that there should be some similarity between logos. I'd personally like to see some retro logos come back, even if they a small bit of Brand Identity attached. Maybe I'll try my hand at a little logo design
  8. New Year Update! It looks like we have our first look at the 2025 souvenir bottles. The bottle may be different than previous years (I have the drink plan, so idk). This particular makes it look like the Legacy Cedar Fair parks are the only ones listed on the bottle (SFEC might wait to add Legacy Six Flags parks until the drink plan is available at all current SFEC parks). It's low-resolution but I think the bottle shown specifically says "FREE REFILLS 2025 Season". Image from https://www.visitkingsisland.com/dining/drinks-dining-deals We may also soon see a slight redesign of the Legacy Cedar Fair park logos (either only online or elsewhere). Cedar Point adjusted their logo in 2018 and recently updated their main park sign in 2024. The change is slight, but noticeable when you've been staring at it as long as I have. Note the "da" and "P", "i", and "t" on the signs in the image below. I doubt any large physical signage will be changed, but we might see something happen. The Cedar Fair wordmarks (like currently exists at Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Carowinds, etc.) are each a specialized version of the font that CF/SFEC use. The new logo is a simple wordmark written in Gibson Bold, with the classic wavy flag dotting the "i". Image from https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fcurrent-sign-at-cedar-point-v0-p3kbpgc11mbd1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D1014%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D8480effc0d84fabbb302cb59953a7f8fce762667 I find this kind of stuff to be interesting, so if anyone finds other new stuff like this feel free to put it here!
  9. Awesome work! Surely it's normal behavior to think about Haunt all year (my Haunt hyperfixation/creation/idea is shown and recorded on a thread somewhere here). Where did you get the maze layouts? The dark ride concept is super cool!!
  10. Removing Skyflyer would open up a nice amount of space, but I'd hope the park would wait until they have a major plan to redo Action Zone to do it. A wild mouse coaster might be able to fit there, so maybe it could be a good family-friendly attraction. I feel similarly about WindSeeker, but unless something new and awesome goes inside Action Theater, I don't know that it would be worth it. It would open up the area and allow better access to Action Theater, but the way KMAA juts out into the midway cuts it off from the rest of Coney Mall. There's probably a good way to make the whole area not a bottleneck that I can't think of though
  11. If I'm reading this correctly, I believe it is closer to the intersection of One Team Way (Columbia Road) and Western Row Road. If anyone is wondering, River Racers will be just above where it says "Centerline" (the gap between RR and One Team Wy. actually looks a bit tight IMO). The "P/L" could be the Plat Line that divides the different parts of KI's property. There are a series of wood pole utility lines right there that stretch from near the Breakers Bay pumphouse eastward toward the power station. You can see the faint curve of the road that bends around the document and parcel ID numbers. I could be very wrong on this, but, the stretch of Columbia Road/One Team Way (and possibly Soak City Drive) may be a special case within the park's property lines. While the park still has to get permission to do anything to those roads, they are on private property and act more as driveways and parking lot entrances than fully public roads that would be subject to public review. Columbia Road was also fully diverted to the east around 2015/2016 to move the intersection further away from Kings Island Drive. I think the high voltage lines are owned by Duke Energy and would require Duke, the City of Mason, and KI to all sign off on their movement, which would probably need to be paid for entirely by Kings Island since it would be exclusively for the park's convenience. Moving them is probably much harder than park management will ever be willing to do, unfortunately. I'm not a professional city planner or anything that would give me extensive knowledge in this area so if I'm wrong please let me know, but I think that's how it works.
  12. I think I'm going to miss it too. While I don't remember my time going through it—and certainly not in the beautiful detail you were able to describe it in—I always appreciated seeing the character it had with the pirate ship and how fun it all looked. The renderings for Splash River Junction are very pretty, but I'm worried that the sense of adventure might be lost with the new slide structure that's replacing Lookout Lagoon. I'm looking forward to seeing the new additions and hope they can be wonderful experiences for those that use them.
  13. Hi all I'm wondering if anyone has pictures or information about the Shady Maple Picnic Grove that existed just outside of the front gate circa 1994? I just found it on a picture of a 1994 park guide and am now really curious. The map has it located either where Invertigo's queue building is or on the other side of the tree line closer to the parking lot. There was an Iam's Pet Day-Care Center between the shelter and the Kings Island Theater as well. Thanks for any and all info!
  14. Disclaimer: If this would fit better in an already existing thread, then please direct me there! I couldn't find somewhere else to fit it and would be happy to move the conversation if need be. Now that we're nearly SIX months (pun intended) after the official merger between Cedar Fair and Six Flags, what noticeable changes do you think will come to the park(s)? We have seen some definite changes and sharing of ideas popping up since the Legacy Six Flags parks released their new 2025 pass/membership options that mirror the Legacy Cedar Fair model. Now we are in the holiday season with Winterfest and Holiday in the Park in full swing. Some LSF parks are using shows from LCF Winterfest, the Cedar Fair All-Season Drink Bottle plan appears to be coming to LSF parks next year, and now all post-merger Six Flags websites include a park selection among their menu bars. I posted in another thread about this and thought it would be nice to have a separate discussion for the little things that might change. What changes do you think/would you want to see brought over from either chain that aren't related to roller coasters, rides, or IPs (characters)? Think about things guests can pick up or directly interact with every day in the park. Things like what the maps, paper cups, plate covers, advertisements, menus, websites, etc. could each look like. Which of the map art styles is your favorite and which do you hope will be used going forward? Are there any events or celebrations that you would like to see brought over from LSF parks? What might not change within the next 5 years? I think things will be consolidated and standardized across the company more and more as time goes on. My short term predictions/hopes are for new physical map art, some new-to-KI events, and more refreshed restaurants. My long term predictions/hopes/dreads are new park logos (could be good or bad), changes to company investment in the parks, and more expensive ticket/season pass prices. Some proof for the rumor of things changing given below (for topic placement purposes). 15. I would also like to see a nicely made park museum installed into the KillMart building, although only if the maze is moved to a new location. The idea of losing another Haunt maze makes me hesitant, but I'd think it could be easy enough to construct another small warehouse like the park did for Slaughterhouse when it moved. It might not be easy, but a short looping documentary would also be really fun to have in there if the building were to be turned into a museum. There's one massive thing standing in the way of expansion within KI's Soak City that I haven't seen a ton of people talk about: the high voltage power lines that cross directly through the center of it. I'm not at all versed on the rules regarding what can go under them, but from what I've gathered it's not much more than a path. The gap isn't huge but it's noticeable enough and unfortunate because nothing can be built under them.
  16. (sorry for the double post) I believe the current exit path was built that way for ADA compliance, though I would love to see the path you drew (which I think is close to the original exit route as well) come back with the rest of that entrance building being used again! A small drink stand and photo stop would fit really well there and allow for the current photo stop to turn into something else. Either way, as long as the ADA route compliance is maintained, I would welcome the change.
  17. I have to agree. Moving the station entrance to where Tropical Twister is currently would allow for the construction of a station building while maintaining the current point where the engine stops. The most that might affect this would be if the park continues to run 3-car train operations. Personally I will mourn the loss of the Boomerang Bay fence paintings right there whenever they are removed, but I think a new station building would make up for it a little. In this scenario, depicted below, guests exiting the KI&MV RR would do so via the current path between First Aid (blue roof on the right) and the locker building (red roof). They would come into Soak City the way guests have done so since its initial construction, entering to a plaza where they can proceed toward most of the rest of the waterpark. Guests entering the KI&MV RR would do so via a new station structure (blue roof on the left) near Pineapple Pipeline. This is smaller than the Rivertown station, but I would think it is better than corralling everybody into an unshaded pen like they currently do. They would then be able to move down the platform to all cars. The former Subway location between the new entrance and exit could be transformed into a connecting pass-through, with a new First Aid entrance being located within it. Guests walking to/from Camp Snoopy would enter near the north (left) side of the new station where there is currently a gate. (this map is still a work in progress, hopefully I can show more off soon)
  18. Solar shades would be a good reason to increase Preferred Parking prices to that $60 mark (just kidding)! I would take solar parking shades at KI as a positive merger addition. I think most of the legacy CF parking lots need a good redesign though. Maybe not to the extent of building parking garages—that sounds expensive—but a dedicated bus drop off with infrastructure, raised sidewalk pathways, small planters, solar shades, and trams are all good options for improvement. Planters, rock beds, and bioswales would also prevent rule-averse guests from parking in non-spaces while breaking the monotony of the parking lot.
  19. What colors would you all like to see a Vortex replacement (or other new coasters at KI) in? The blue and orange were very pleasing to look at and I wouldn't mind seeing them return in a modified scheme/palette. Personally I am not a fan of gray/white track support colorings, but do think they can work in certain circumstances.
  20. If the park renovated the entire front entrance, it would make the guest experience of getting into the park a lot better! One massive issue is that the guest flow is atrocious. Everyone processed through the north (left) security lines are funneled between a planter and a fence or said planter and the season pass building. Everyone processed through the south (right) lines is immediately at the turnstiles. There isn't really much room to expand the entrance plaza—so a Canada's Wonderland security line system is out of the question—but there is enough room to create an environment like a smaller Cedar Point or Carowinds entrance plaza. If I were KI management a renovation/reorganization of the entrance would be near the top of my list of "easy" projects. And the parking lot needs a more than just repaving, but that's a topic for another time.
  21. In no particular order, I would like to see things that activate areas of the park that are currently lacking: a new coaster for The Vortex plot as long as it is anything but a B&M, seeing as KI's top 3 steel coasters are from B&M. I thought of a Mack Rides launch coaster concept that I named Coyote. an expanded Camp Snoopy that reaches Snoopy Boutique and the entrance to Woodstock Whirlybirds new restaurants. One quick-service in Rivertown near the underutilized Paradise Island, with PI being kept and rethemed. One sit-down in Coney Mall, similar to Victoria Gardens Pizza at Kings Dominion. There could be additional seating in front near the Games stand if the capacity required it. One refreshment stand just beyond the entrance to The Beast. new permanent stages and a return to non-stunt-shows in the International Showplace. One small stage near the entrance to The Beast. One small stage in Action Zone. new flat rides a spinning ride that can mirror the Grand Carousel (like a tea cup ride), placed near the International Showplace one more flat ride in Area 72, could be Flying Eagles-esque a retheme of Action Zone, possibly with a theme of mythical creatures/cryptids (they could call it Mythical Village). Able to keep Banshee and The Bat, and maybe add a new coaster playing off of the Loveland Frog Man. Delirium's entrance could be moved to Oktoberfest (probably easier than some might think), and it be rethemed as well. more permanent structures for Halloween Haunt mazes. freshly renovated bathrooms across the whole park, more trees and foliage, more seating. General park atmosphere improvements. proper staffing of all locations throughout the regular season. No more passing 2 closed drink stands just to find an open one. a reworking of the parking lot to make the experience of walking across it better.
  22. I think a change to some of the things guests regularly use may come in the near future as well. Things like maps, apps, websites, drink bottles (as seen above), branding on cups/plate covers, etc. could be subject to look different sooner rather than later. We've already seen the restructuring of Six Flags passes to match the Cedar Fair model as a start. For example, why use 3-4 different park guide/map design companies (CF physical map style, CF mobile app map style, SF physical map style, and maybe SF mobile app map style) when everything could be done through 2 (physical & mobile app maps)? Different map styles shown below. Kings Island summer 2024 park map Kings Island 2024 mobile app map preview (maps created by MapLayr) https://attractions.io/learn/cedar-fair-maplayr-partnership Six Flags Over Texas summer 2024 park map
  23. The naming scheme for these additions does stand out a bit much from the rest of the waterpark. Could it be an indication of a Soak City retheme in the near future, or at least a renaming away from Soak City? I think Little Miami Waterworks (or something like it) could go hard and give Kings Island its own Carolina Harbor/South Bay Shores non-Soak-City type of name.
  24. I would be curious to see what Kings Island accomplishes in their additional week off compared to Carowinds — such as does it take longer for KI to switch out decorations and winterize coasters that won't be open? Whatever the case, I'm excited for all the pretty sights around the park!
  25. I meant to say it in the original post, but I'd love to read any thoughts, opinions, and additional ideas anyone has about this!
