  1. Hey, look- don't confuse "debate" with "argument." I'll lose interest in a conversation quickly if it comes to an argument, this isn't the forum for such anyway. So imagine this conversation happening over an order of wings and once we don't solve anything we can talk about the undisputed fact that the Bengals will NEVER win a January football game. I like to debate. Sometimes I will take a position opposite of what I think just to see if the person on the other side- not necessarily knows what they're talking about, but is passionate enough about it to dig their heels in and defend it. In this instance, and I'm no theologian, I side with Ham (not Hamm as even I have spelled it) about 49.9% of the time. He takes a very conservative, very literal approach to the Bible and its historical account. Is the Bible a historical account?, yes. Is it a biography?, yes. Is it a "book of the law"?, yes. BUT, it is also "literature" written to and for the cultures that were reading it in their time, which was a very illustrative society, where objects and concepts often represented something else readily understood by the people of the time. So when reading the Bible in 2015, a person's default mentality must be that much of it is written in "figurative" language readily understood by those reading it in "their" context. For instance, those of us who were very alert to the happenings of 9/11 knew exactly what the cartoon image of burning towers and an eagle sharpening its talons meant. 2000 years from now you would need to know a bit more history to understand the imagery. I may have wrote this here before, so if I did, go to the next post. Much in our culture, Christian or not, know the number 666: satan, mark of The Beast, evil, etc... 6- by definition refers to: human weakness, imperfection, slavery, bondage, etc... 3 is completeness, perfect (to a lesser extent than 7)... put three sixes together and you have "perfect evil" (I'm paraphrasing a lot). In the apocalyptic literature style that Revelation (for instance) is written in, 666 refers to something that 1st century Christians wanted to warn others about without drawing attention to it in a language they understood: Caesar (Nero) and the Roman Empire. Consider Roman Numerals that were in existence at the time: I- 1, V- 5, X- 10, L- 50, C- 100, D- 500 add em up. Then there's the study of Gematria and the numeric equivalent for Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, who we know from history books as Nero Caesar or Neron Kasar. Take the numeric values of the Hebrew interpretation of that name: NRWN QSR (N=50, R=200, W=6, Q=100, S=60, R= 200). Add them up and look him up... Nero was the textbook definition of a beast. I got a little far away from the topic in my illustration. My apologies. I feel that Ken Ham takes a very literal approach to his outlook, which sometimes I think negates the original context that the passages were written. He does, however, base his hypothesis on much more than blind faith. The link you posted was written by David Badash who narrowed the 90-minute (or however long it was) debate to Genesis being about Gay Marriage. Really? I'm not going to wade into that pond, but click on his name, read his self-written profile and you'll understand the context he's writing from.
  2. So, since we're on the subject- what is the prevailing thought here as to why Kinzel pursued Geauga Lake? Some feel it was a vendetta and was always to close it. I can't swallow that logic; but some like to dig their heels in and hold to that.
  3. I'd rename it 'Bahn-shie.' Think Banshee and Bat are aptly named, the rest of that area should follow.
  4. I love 'Terps play on words. I always come away thinking, "why didn't I come up with that?" Probably not large enough for a shopping district. You'd have to have a lot of parking to pull that off; in addition there's probably not enough housing around it to support one. Now, something linked the park, an entertainment district like CityWalk or Disney Springs would be neat... but then again- there's the parking.
  5. have they started to demolish yet? I would think it would be a great location for a marquee, true, flagship Kings Island Resort location. And before it gets shot down, I know that GWL is the "official" hotel...
  6. Except he is. Hamm is a profoundly ignorant and intolerant man. He's doing more damage than good. I keep coming back to this.... these are broad and vague statements. I'm going to call you out on this: If you're going to label someone that you do not know in any context to that level- provide an example of how: - he is profoundly ignorant - he is intolerant - doing more damage than good. . I am on break at work so I will expand on thos later but as for ignorance...his arguments against evolution and for a young earth consisted mostly of referring to the bible. Not exactly a peer reviewed and reliable source of scientific insight. Add to this his belief that dinosaurs lived with humans...so on and so forth. He is free to believe as he likes, as is anyone else, but in my opinion perpetuating this kind of thinking and stating it as absolute fact is harmful. I am paraphrasing here, but I believe he said no amount of evidence would change his mind. So, by your definition, he's ignorant. What are your qualifications for judgment? Don't get me wrong, I've been the museum once- not my thing. I think he's right on a number of things- not so sure on others; he takes a very conservative and literal approach to the Bible. Whether or not you take the view that the earth is "young" or billions of years old, the "peer-reviewed" source of scientific insight "technology" is less than 50 years old. Hardly time-tested. Either way, no matter of scientific review can convince me that the earth, people, dinosaurs, stars, other galaxies, etc... are accidents of nature. So, before we go on how ignorant he is- what qualifications are on the other side to determine this. I am not a scientist on any level; I'm not claiming him to be a genius at all; merely someone with a more informed opinion that I. I'm not likely to bend to your slant of thinking unless there are some scientific credentials to back up your label. Interested to hear (read) of how he is intolerant. That all said, I don't have a clue who you are and this is an argument that I'm not willing to split hairs on. I don't care if people think Ken Hamm is an old coot off his rocker... not going to make my day any longer or shorter. Just, across the board, tired of people labeling another person as ignorant, intolerant, etc... that really don't understand what the other person is about just because they have an opinion different than their own.
  7. Just watched the video ad. Half funny, half eye-roll. No worse than the American Atheist billboards all over though.
  8. Creation Museum is funded privately, so of what consequence is it if attendance and finances are off.
  10. If you don't want to hear Mr. Hamm speak a simple solution would be to change the channel when he comes on, you don't have to go find a bathroom. They are applying to use tax benefits available under the law for companies that will contribute tax revenue at a later time. Its not uncommon.
  11. (speaks under his breath)... so are many aspects of SEAS. There are a number of Christian organizations that serve beer. There's no spiritual/Christian taboo against drinking (drunkeness... something completely different). I don't personally; the last time I had an alcoholic beverage was at a wedding reception in 1996. Its just not a drink I like. I save money at Reds games that way too; much rather have a $5 Coke than a $10 Bud. Another- financially they cannot let the Busch Gardens parks go- they are the only "bright" spots in the portfolio... there's no way that stockholders would approve that sale. SEAS without the Busch brand is a penny-stock. The SeaWorld brand needs repaired; that's the easy part. The hard part is redeveloping the visiting habits
  12. It'll never happen, but Busch Gardens would be best spun off into its own entity. I don't know if BG would be a good fit in the FUN or SIX portfolio. I think those parks have way too much attention to detail than those suitors. The last I was at BG, Williamsburg- the attention to landscaping was off the chart. CF has done much better with environment/experience at the parks than the Paramount predecessor, but lets face it- those details aren't one of their strong suits.
  13. one of my favorite Royal Fountain Images:
  14. that's sort of what I was thinking. If I were guessing, they'll look like the new apartments off 741 west of I-71. I can't help but wonder though what is gong to be the bigger complaint: noise from I-71 to the west or the noise 6 months out of the year across the street, not to mention traffic issues are various points of the year. KI Inn's time has well passed- but I'm not real certain that there'll be a waiting list to get into housing at this "prime" location.
  15. Among many, Idora. Or, as driving past LeSourdesville Lake today on the way to a family Christmas (not Thanksgiving) family gathering, my 9-year old daughter said that when she gets older she wants to reopen it. Maybe she meant in "Sandbox" mode on RTC.
  16. His video at the pearly gates of Americana/LeSourdesville Lake bordered an awkward comedy with his run in with, who I assume was, Jerry Couch. I own a vacant commercial building I'll let him explore- then as stipulation for his "trespassing" transfer ownership to him so he can tend to it.
  17. I could envision Blackstone reorganizing the division to separate the sheep from the goats. They never completely merged the organizations together anyway; BG still has most of their executive structure in place, as does SW.
  18. Maybe someone answered it before, but I have watched a few of adamthewoo's videos... kind of a fan. How does he do those with sometimes video proof of trespassing and not get fined back to the stone age?
  19. I could envision a classic equity fund slice and dice sale.
  20. ah, back in the days when they knew how to do the complicated things like.... change burnt out light bulbs. Such a lost art.
  21. as a side note as mentioned above; by and large the weather near the end of the operating season this year was nothing short of putrid.
  22. Winterfest had all of the things you mentioned, plus excellent shows- and the occasional frostbite... I would call it a debate loosely. Imagine the "debate" happening over beer and wings- its a debate I could lose interest in quickly. I have opinions, but not ones I'd be willing to dig my heels into. Terp probably feels the same; he's had a pulse on much of this longer than I, so the truth of events past might lean to his end. I disagree; but just because I disagree doesn't make it any less true or false. From where I sit, I think KI has an opportunity to "increase"- do I think it will happen?; likely not.
  23. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one- that's OK though, I enjoy a good debate. I can't speak to the Carowinds event, but as an attender of the 2005 KI event, it didn't seem hastily put together. It actually, I thought, was done well; shows were good, light show(s) done well... it only seemed pricing was off. I know that they had planned to do the event well early in 2005- I participated in the former Paramount Volunteer program, which was one of the best deals going. We received tickets in January (2005) from a day we worked in October 2004; in the fine print on the back it said that the ticket was not valid on park sell-out days, corporate rental dates, or Winterfest. This was January 2005, seven months before it was announced. In Summer 2004 they tested power outlets in Nick U for electrical loads the summer before which almost caused a tree to burn down (a relative was working there the night it happened). I could be wrong, but I don't buy that they were soley marketing the parks with Winterfest. You want to sell me your $1.2 Billion park chain?, show me Cash Flow / P&L statements with a lot of black ink on them. Don't pepper it with a red-ink experiment; and if it bombs- for the love of all things holy, don't do it in again 2006. I don't know Jeff Siebert at all- I met him a few times for the programs our group was involved with but never had a meaningful conversation with him. My guess is that he left because Schlitterbahn was offering him a corporate marketing Director position; and now he resides at Six Flags Corp in Texas. If you read writing on the wall you don't plot an exit 5 states away; I've noticed working a bit in this industry- these professionals/executives do that. Jeff's boss at Six Flags Corp. started at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, took a promotion to BG in Tampa, bounced back up to Sesame Place- went on to work as the SVP Marketing for Paramount Parks until they closed, then vaulted out to CA to work with Palace Entertainment, then down to TX to work as an SVP, Marketing at Six Flags. Its a common tale of most park chain executives working their way up a ladder. Jeff was at KI for 6 years... that's a pretty long time. (edited a few words for better clarity of thought)
  24. Wasn't that price for the whole Magic Bands and My Magic+ thing? Wifi surely wasn't a billion on its own, right? I just came across this and not sure if I already answered. The $1.1B project wasn't for one bullet point, but a whole project. Wifi wasn't installed purely for Guest Experience alone- it was installed so that their Park/Resort MyMagic App could interface in real-time anywhere on property for WDW and Guest (experience). So, the project was all-inclusive of a stack of items under the umbrella of one heck of a project. Wifi and/or MyMagic wasn't the "wheel"- but several spokes of the wheel. Sorry if redundant.
