If you could only stay in one section of KI for the day.
Outdoor Man replied to BeastForever's topic in KI Polls
funny things is- 3 years ago (pre-Diamondback)- 90% of the vote would have probably been for Action Zone. I voted Planet Snoopy. I WANT to get out of that area... I have kids and tend to get trapped peering out the window to a vast amusement park I haven't seen in years! Boy I can't wait to ride Skylab when I finally get back over to the other side of the park! -
I love Delirium. But it has a terrible down time record. I have no rumor information, just a question- is it going to make it?

my first time riding The Beast was at night in September.... with fog. AWESOME first experience.

Walt Disney World: New Park?
Outdoor Man replied to coaster_junky's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
trying to compare disney with other "regional" parks is like ___________ insert your own joke. disney has the lock on family resorts and theming. CF did a pretty good job theming Planet Snoopy- but they are not in the same category as Disney in that department. KI is full of "indifferent" employees, with the exception of a precious few. As for another Disney park- i'm not sure what they could theme it to. Pixar would seem plausible- but that would just be a section to the Hollywood Studios piece. Also- whoever suggested another "park" to DCA.... having been in Anaheim twice in the last few years- I am not sure where exactly they would put another park. -
can we call Screamscape- "Captain Obvious?" most of those things are pretty well-known anyway. One thing SOB has batting in its corner is that its a record breaking coaster- and Cedar Fair likes its notable coasters.

new trains would be a relatively inexpensive way to renew interest in the ride. I'm kind of lukewarm to it now... i would ride a floor-less version a time or two. Although, and someone mentioned it earlier... it's been a fortnight since it has received a new layer of color. it looks terrible- almost like, "should I be riding this?" terrible. Someone I know who works for one of KI's contractors- not the dipping dots guy- said that they haven't spent money on it because it is an annual discussion as to whether they will remove it in the next 12 months. Same person said that SOB's problems likely saved FD this year. and- oh, the old Top Gun pictures. I kinda miss those. Tom Cruise when he wasn't 4 quarters short of a dollar.

when I was fresh out of high school (back when dinosaurs roamed). actually this was 1992/1993'ish. 95 degrees and disgustingly humid out. my friends and I come across two teenage girls- i'm going to guess age 15 maybe. Dressed almost head to toe in black, hair artificially black. One was wearing a "spike" necklace with a chain coming off to it which was attached to the "spike" bracelet worn by her friend. It was so bizarre that I went up and asked if I could take a picture of them because when I went back to tell my other friends what I saw- no one would ever believe me. They immediately gave me some choice words and gave me the "1-way" 1-finger salute. I had the pictures from that up until a few years ago.

I could be mistaken, but I believe they removed some of the que a few years ago based upon the reality that no matter how popular the coaster may be (or not be) a 3-hour que wasn't necessary anymore. And as far as not "announcing" anything; think Geauga Lake.

when I think of 2 million twinkling LED lights, this is all I can think of. Cedar Fair isn't the best in the whole theming department- but they did a Great Job with Planet Snoopy! And I'll go with the plugs for Universal Studios Ohio at Kings Island.

OFFICIAL! Son of Beast Will NOT Operate in 2010
Outdoor Man replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
the insurance question is the more accurate consideration. Once an attraction has claims filed against it any insurance carrier of the park will begin talking "exclusions." lI would think that for SOB to ever operate again they would need to have some VERY significant alterations to the track layout. I honestly cannot see that happening; they may open it again- but either way I don't see it existing more than a few years. One more loss claim and it would be gone so fast that SOB fans would get whiplash (oh wait, that happens anyway). My guess is that as soon as CF finds a suitable replacement for the huge and noticeable scar that its removal would leave, they'll proceed with the next steps. And as for ANYTHING record-breaking coming to KI- you can write that off as long as Cedar Fair is the owner. KI will continue to get state of the art attractions as economics allow- but anything record breaking will go to the flagship park, Cedar Point. KI enjoyed flagship status for 35 years; it is now a "measured success" step-child. -
took kids... they did a GREAT JOB with Planet Snoopy. and it was COLD once the sun went down!

People OUTSIDE KI Say The Darnedest Things
Outdoor Man replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island
look at the adm.'s FB page... he's like 5th or 6th grade. -
If not mistaken- the last version of the ki website was mostly the same as the final PKI years- just de-paramount-ized.

we get the "souvenir/refill" cup. At $1.99 per refill (i wonder if, after 3 seasons, that will change). For my money, you can't beat an ice cold fountain drink on a hot day.

I'm assuming this is referring to me. a few posts before I had said i'm not offended by it. However, my litmus test would be- and this doesn't need to ramp off into a "religion" topic, as is frowned on by the mods (and I agree with)- but with some people (not referring to anyone specifically) would not be offended by a character named "boocifer"- but I'd be willing to bet a donut that there would be people erratically offended by a "good" character name "geezus." but let me again state- it doesn't offend my sensitivities- nor am I complaining, just an opinion.
-
I'm not offended by it at all just think they could use better names and leave the "religious" references out completely. The funny part is, hardly anyone will blink an eye on the name "boocifer"- BUT let the hero of the attraction be someone named "Geesus" and they'd be stacking up the petition lines. (not intended to start a religion tangent; mods- delete this post if it distracts)

Ah, someone brought it up earlier. Probably the benchmark for all dark rides (even though, technically its probably not considered one) has to be Spiderman at Universal Studios. Why can't they make a ride like that. I hope that this isn't the same ride as SDATHC minus Scooby. Also, as a parent- I'm not real crazy on their play on words use of "Boocifer" on a "family" ride. To me that ranks right up there with some of the music they had been playing in the "kids" area last year. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind that music... for me... not for elementary kids.

I think its ironic that the park just got detox'd from all of the Paramount era items, yet if you watch a Peanuts DVD release- they are distributed by Paramount.

OFFICIAL! Son of Beast Will NOT Operate in 2010
Outdoor Man replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
i'm probably off on my terminology... but whereas The Beast follows the hills close to the ground sometimes- SOB relies mostly on sheer height for it's hills. -

the coaster could be DRAMATICALLY improved if the "bowls" were removed in favor of making it a true "terrain" coaster. I think it can be salvaged into a much better experience. The roughest parts of the ride were when the track curved anyway. -
I know... where is the "pigpen" themed ride? I knew he'd get dissed.
