  1. a massive cash influx, expansion at a Six Flags park... doesn't that usually mean that the park is within 5 years of being sold/closed/demolished? Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in 2000/2001- sold in 2004, demolished in 2009'ish Six Flags New Orleans- purchased 2003 (?)- closed 2005. Six Flags AstroWorld- closed and demolished. 2005 (i think) Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom (closed 2010). Six Flags and the words "closed" and "demolished" seem to go hand in hand.
  2. that's awesome- and at the same time, TMI! there's a lot of fowl-ness coming from th former GL park. Many things of that whole mess, even from a business standpoint don't make sense. I also tip the hat to them for trying to save the coaster, but when I read that it was a college student (at least I think that was her "profession") and an investor from New Zealand I happened to think that she may have been in over her head. that being said- it seemed they had a few duck in a row to begin and stopped on the "owners" pull back from the agreement. I think that a great location for a classic coaster, if it could ever be pulled off, would be at a classic park on the banks of the Ohio River (Coney Island).
  3. and for the 1.6 million/year and debate of Kentucky Kingdom/Holiday World; if not mistaken, the Ark would be year-round. Aren't these other places summer-time operations (4-5 months at most)? and again, i may be wrong on this.
  4. funny that no one has complained to disney about this. it amazes me that people like him have no set in stone evidence that their "theory" of how we came to be is true, yet they feel the need to bash all others who have opposing viewpoints. the guy is a clown. I may be backwards on this- but i don't believe the premise of the taxable advantages are that they are issued money from the state. And I may be wrong on this, but isn't the benefit that they are "excused" from tax payment for a set amount of time? And I'm not going to delve into the religious end of the debate- but if he was a studied scientist and would venture over to the history side he would see thousands of historical records of people, places, and events that prove authenticity that aren't of Christian record, Jewish record, Islamic record, etc- they are of historical record.
  5. Have you ever flown out of CVG or paid for a flight from out of there? If I was a hoosier, I wouldn't wanna be associated with that place either. No wonder why there are so many advertisements for IND in Cincinnati. touche'
  6. terp- you are like the "wiki-terpreter" or "interpretedia"-
  7. post more if you have....... the Black and White / creepy fog is a nice touch. are there any books out about it?
  8. too bad for Indiana- they're the only ones in the OKI region not represented at the Airport. Stupid Hoosiers.
  9. seriously?, covington. It's not even in covington is it? More like Hebron or Erlanger, isn't it?
  10. jandyb79 - and I assume you will post said pictures?
  11. Terp... what does CVG stand for anyway? the only thing I can figure is "covington."
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't the State of Ohio own the airport and the land it's on? I've flown out of that airport at least once a year for 4 years now and when leaving the airport you always see "Welcome to Kentucky" signs coming out, and from my understanding it's because Ohio owns the airport, could be wrong though. I'm not going to swear to it- but I'm pretty sure that most airports welcome you to whatever state they're in upon exiting- because "usually" you're flying in from another state.
  13. and Oktoberfest is in........ September.... (answered this out of chronological order. hope no one else had this pitiful joke.......) AND, if you live in Liberty Twp, like me, the 2010 Fall Fest was in the Summer.
  14. i find it interesting that with the ariel pictures well-before closing and more recent have little similarities. ie- you cannot make out where the midway was. Almost like they pulled EVERYTHING up- concrete and all. unless I am missing something- and like a loser with nothing else to do today- I tried to find how the old layout went from recent pictures.
  15. speaking of park maps, does anyone have images, links, etc.. of Coney Island while still operating before Kings Island.
  16. holy crap. WindSeeker gets WAY up there. according to picture 18 we'll be able to see the skyline of Cedar Point from up there!!!!!!!!! is it just me (or maybe this has already been talked about)- but does it look like they've removed a lot of the trees through Coney Mall?
  17. i didn't get to go by the parking lot today; we live in the opposite direction. Son of Beast was right outside our balcony and though I wasn't looking specifically for a tarp- i didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
  18. staying at GWL tonight and drove past the ki parking lot on my way back from a walmart run. there were a pair of semi's in the parking lot surrounded by vehicles that appeared to have some large, cylinder-shaped objects on the flatbed. It was near dusk- so i couldn't see real well... but WindSeeker pieces may have begun to arrive.
  19. most blog pages are free. set up a typepad or wordpress account.
  20. why does it matter who it caters to? If John and Joe Doe want to pay $15 admission (or whatever) to get into said park- and others just like them- it's a cash flowing venture; everybody wins. I think maybe I'm missing the side of the coin you're speaking from.
  21. With respect to the "owners" of this site I want to steer clear of the "religious" side of this topic all together- other than to say: 1) tax breaks to new businesses offering gainful employment opportunities is nothing new. If the Commonwealth of Kentucky offered tax breaks to this endeavor to kick it off and pony up a few dollars for gainful employment- separation of Church and State has nothing to do with it. Its about giving taxable benefit to an organization that will be paying FICA, and employees that will be paying their own set of taxes. It is the state government investing in itself. 2) I went to the Kentucky State Fair this past year. I can't imagine that Kentucky Kingdom would have much of a future and it wouldn't be wise for the state to roll out incentives for a park that can't expand. If you've ever been there I think you would agree that it is pretty much a textbook definition of a land-locked park. And every year in the late August/early September window most of your available parking is poached by a multi-day running fair. And if Hindu's Muslims, etc... offered to build a complex that offered gainful employment on a scale such as above- they would be given the same tax-break consideration just as would a Honda factory offering to build a warehouse in Kentucky to employ "X" employees. Religion has nothing to do with it- it's dollars and cents in the economy. [edited by Mr. Schrute for really bad grammar]
  22. i would love to see google-earth pics from years past. as a side note, water surrounding rides wouldn't do a thing for the mid-july temperature.... or June for that matter.
  23. i got that today too. What creative genius came up with that wording.... "Imagine Winterfest on a day like today??? YIKES"- then some other line about better ways to enjoy Kings Island.... I hit "reply" to the email- which I'm sure won't go anywhere- but stated that cold weather and "winter"fest was kind of the point. and placed my vote for a return of the event.
  24. good pictures. it was a great picture you got from inside the line que from "the Crypt" that day it was open last year...
