Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)
RailRider replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
The majority of the rides at KI aren't any Diamondback. There are a few and thats it that even compare. Whats your point? Firehawk was a major instalation at KI by Cedar Fair, Diamondback is not the first major coaster instalation by CF at KI. If you took the time to read the prior posts you would realize why Firehawk was ever mentioned and not that it is being compared to the massive investment of Diamondback. -

So what you are saying is that Firehawk is not a major attraction at KI? The General Public will beg to differ. Also I wouldn't call the spending of millions to tear down, transport, paint, and construct a coaster in a new location minor or something to sneeze at. Seriously you amaze me some times.... -

SFMM Annouces Terminator Wooden Coaster
RailRider replied to RailRider's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Reminds me of a cross between Ravine Flyer II and ThunderHead and the first drop looks to be very similar to Kentucky Rumbler -
Really I have never seen park regulations enforeced at a Six park, matter of fact I find that overall most of their employees could care less about their job, park or the guest expereince. I know there are exceptions and the corporate culture has gotten somewhat better under Shapiro, but still my experience has been completely different with Six and I still find them very lacking in guest services.

Maybe they had a hard time rendering the spiral staircase. -
SFMM Annouces Terminator Wooden Coaster
RailRider replied to RailRider's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
^ I understand what you mean about those rides and their names, but non of them have a theme. This ride is to be themed after the Terminator movies. So if it is to be themed to the movies, I just find it hard for a wodden coaster to be themed after metal cyborg assasin. But thats just me. Heres some more info and video of the coaster. Who needs a press release now? PR Newswire -
Interesting when I used to be a dual passholder I never had issues with Cedar Point renewal, but always had an issue with Kings Island renewal. Given I dont have the long track record you do, so my sample size is limited. I wonder if its just an industry thing and the majority of parks strugle with it?

SFMM Annouces Terminator Wooden Coaster
RailRider replied to RailRider's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well this coaster has been known about for quite a while. The guys at TPR have been calling it terminator since the removal of the old coaster. Yeah what if that would have happend with Diamondback. I mean besides the article in First Drop magazine and the discovered plans at the city of Mason. Atleast the name and details were kept close until the announcement. -
There's Money In Haunted Houses
RailRider replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Not to mention if you make your easy $30k dont forget you have to pay taxes on that money... Afterall it cannot just show up in your bank account and then not be claimed as income. The IRIS while big and slow, will find it and then life is not so good. Might want to think about spinning the haunted attraction off in to its own buisness entity, that way you are not baring the full blunt of liability but the company can take the hit and if something bad happens you dont loose everything. So how easy does it sound now? -

Dont enough FoF clones exist??? Now how about a Vekoma Moto coaster with Harley Davidson FatBoys you ride. Hmm seems like that would be Arnold approved and fit the theme. -
Yes I like my discounted coupons very much, right now they have already made me a few Nickles My thought and its been said by those much smarther than I, regional amusement park chains like CF and others will pretty much hibernate through the rest of the year and when they open their gates again the credit crunch is predicted to be over or atleast rebounding. So the general public will have a positive feel and will visit their local park.

I was one that Winterfest was a tradition for my family and when it came back in 05 it was truly amazing. I was so excited that I went to the announcement at the Paramount Theater. The entertainment was top notch and the atmosphere was excelent. Very exspensive which was the downfall. I still have a glimer of hope that one day they will bring it back, but being a realist I dont see it happening.

Wow I am impressed by the trip so far. As I was reading I was amazed at 4 park days in a row and then I caught your disclaimer at the bottom. Im worn out just thinking of 4 straight days, can only imagine how you guys were doing. Question, when you plan your Disney trip do you do it mainly through their website, use a travel agent or Disney's planning materials that they will mail out? Just curious as you know we are getting the Disney itch. Great report so far.

In one of the worst kept ride annoucements SFMM will indeed introduce Terminator The Coaster next year. Still havent figured out how you can have a Terminator ride that isnt steel? Doesn't make sense. Im sure the themeing will be top notch Six Flags quality, but the ride should be another great ride from GCI LA Times

There's Money In Haunted Houses
RailRider replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Man $15 is pretty steep. I only know of a few massive haunts like Dead Acres and Land of Illusions that can charge $15 or more. You might consider $5 to get the crowds and lower their expectations for the haunt. Also the driving force or any haunt is marketing and advertising. Just because you build it, does not mean they will come. Trust me if it were that easy, everybody and their brother would have a haunted house. -

The haunt business is probably one of the hardest to get started in, that is if looking to have a average size attraction, the initial cash outlay and with credit issues now, I wouldn't excpect a lot of new big houses to open anytime soon. I have read a few articles on The Beast and The Edge of Hell and the attractions sound amazing. Locally I recomend anyone check out Dead Acres aka the Haunted Hoochie near Columbus. Absolutely amazing attraction. Great find Terpy.
