Kings Island Announces its 2021 Calendar
Oldiesmann replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
There are also far more job opportunities in this area than there are in Sandusky and surrounding small towns - especially warehouse positions (similar pay, year round work and benefits) -
Former Kings Island PR onto a new venture
Oldiesmann replied to Young Gunz's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
He still works for the park - he just hasn't been their PR person for a while. His current title is "Area Manager Digital Marketing". -
Cedar Point to set age limit on dorms
Oldiesmann replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
"We welcome anyone to apply but good luck finding a place to live if you're 30 or older and not from the area". This could end up backfiring on the park. -
2021 Kings Island Job Application Question
Oldiesmann replied to SpectralBeacon's topic in Kings Island
You would be best to contact HR with that question, but applying for a position that requests a demo reel without actually having a demo reel isn't going to get you very far -
The man who founded Surf Cincinnati before selling it in 1990 died recently at the age of 76. I'd known him through church for decades but had completely forgotten about the Surf Cincinnati connection until I read his obituary (though only visited the park once and that was well after he'd sold it). https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/frederic-schatz-obituary?pid=197457101

Yahoo Finance Talks Tall Coasters, Kinda
Oldiesmann replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I didn't know I305 was Batman-themed or that Behemoth was a looping wooden coaster I seriously have to wonder how hard it would be for these sites to actually proofread this stuff. -
Indianan Beach To Add 2 Rides for 2021
Oldiesmann replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Definitely going to have to make it to Indiana Beach whenever this COVID thing settles down. Nice to see the new owners investing in the park already. -
The Beach Waterpark is for sale!
Oldiesmann replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
From their FB page it appears they did open last year but they haven't posted anything since August 2019. -
Another classic ride is leaving a park owned by Parques Reunidos (also owners of Kennywood, Idlewild and various other parks). The trabant ride at Lake Compounce in Connecticut is being retired. https://www.facebook.com/LakeCompounce/posts/10158490762370272 Not sure how many people here have visited that park given that it's an 11½ hour drive from Cincy but always sad to see classic rides retired.

Cedar Fair announced Q3 earnings a few days ago. As expected, things aren't pretty. I'm not a finance guy so I'll let others comment on this in more detail. https://ir.cedarfair.com/news/news-details/2020/Cedar-Fair-Reports-Results-for-Its-2020-Third-Quarter/default.aspx

Reservations back at Cedar Point
Oldiesmann replied to coaster sally's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Given what happened last October (see https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2019/10/cedar-points-new-gold-pass-good-weather-combine-for-crowded-halloweekends.html for a refresher), I'm not at all surprised by this decision. Granted, that was during normal times and part of that was likely due to Haunt, but even so, better safe than sorry. Hopefully this works out well for them. -

Good luck getting approval to tunnel under an active interstate highway. Doing that without disrupting traffic flow at all would be a challenge. -
Carrowinds Connection Forum to Shut Down
Oldiesmann replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It's a shame they don't want anyone taking over. Hopefully someone will step up and make a new site. If I lived in the area and/or were an active member of that site I'd consider doing so myself. -
I’m Writing the First KI History Book!
Oldiesmann replied to KIghostguy's topic in Kings Island History
Might want to try Cincinnati Book Publishing as well if you haven't. They've published several local history books (Good Samaritan Hospital, the old Terrace Plaza Hotel, etc.) so they might be interested, especially given that they're local. -
Wanted to try this on Saturday but they were sold out by the time we were getting dinner (around 7). Ended up going for pizza because the line for that wasn't too long in Festhaus. Panda line was long like usual and the line for Hank's was out the door and moving slow (stood in line for close to 10 minutes and still wasn't inside - didn't want to wait 20+ minutes for food)

More importantly we have a beagle

Are you forgetting about the one at Beech Bend? Only 3½ hours from Cincinnati and also home to an excellent GCI woodie.

I've always thought a good Wild Mouse would be a great addition for KI. I'm not sure why we don't have one yet.

Coney is done after this season IMO
Oldiesmann replied to coaster sally's topic in Coney Island Central
One interesting note regarding rides... Coney has always held their fireworks competition in late September after the pool closed. Last year's event drew large crowds (we got there mid to late afternoon and I still waited 20 minutes to put my niece on a kiddie ride...). This year they had planned to hold it in mid-June instead. The only reason I can think of for this change is that having the pool open would have encouraged people to come earlier and spend more (compared to not having the pool), like the rides always did. I was particularly looking forward to seeing if the lack of rides affected Balloon Glow at all - that was also a big event for rides. -
Much better. Thanks!

Would it be possible to either update the KIC Dark theme or get a new dark theme that takes up all available screen width like the IPB Default and KIC bright themes do? I like the dark theme but at full HD (1920x1080), it seems too narrow.

Online Reservations NOW OPEN on KI's Website
Oldiesmann replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Got my reservation for 11:30 on the 4th. Will be meeting my sister, brother-in-law and nieces there. Will be interesting to see how well it works and also how long the lines for Orion get. -
The Beach Waterpark is for sale!
Oldiesmann replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I worked at the main Dippin' Dots stand at The Beach in the summer of 2006 and at the Donut Shop (in the Blue Ash Chili stand) during Holidayfest that winter. It was definitely a unique place, though I only went that one summer (went with my family using free tickets I got for working there). The people who ran things were nice and it definitely had quite a fan base (helped by a big season pass sale late in the season I'm sure - season passes purchased then were good for the rest of the current season, Holidayfest and the entire next season also including Holidayfest). I'm not sure what their financial situation was like back then, but I enjoyed my time working there. The only thing that kept me from returning was the cost of gas - commuting 20-something miles each way in a minivan wasn't cheap.
