4/5/2013 - Cincinnati Reds vs. Washington Nationals TR
Oldiesmann replied to Diamondbacker's topic in Trip Reports
The new seats over the visitor's bullpen are part of a new bar they put over there (hence the Budweiser logo). They way the team spun it to the media was that they always saw fans hanging out over there, so why not give them more reason to do so (translation: find a way to profit from areas where fans like to hang out). From the "A to Z guide": More info on what all is new for 2013: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130328&content_id=43458394&vkey=pr_cin&c_id=cin Also, when did they start playing Connie Smith's "Cincinnati, Ohio" at the ballpark? Prior to the game on April 3rd, the last game I went to at GABP was in August of 2011, but I don't remember them playing it then. -
KICentral T-Shirt Poll
Oldiesmann replied to LMHConcepts's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
I'll go with large because the last medium I bought is a bit tight, and I don't mind if it runs a little big. -
I had a random dream about KI the other night. I don't remember much about it, except that Adventure Express had new trains with cars resembling ATVs (sort of like the "motorcycle coasters" that exist, but the entire car looked like the seat from an ATV, complete with handle bars).

It still amazes me that their pass system is such a mess 5+ years after they purchased Paramount Parks. The easiest way to solve 90% of the problems would be to store all the passholder info in a single central database that can be accessed from any park, regardless of the pass type or location purchased. That would allow every park to look up any CF passholder and verify their status. I'm beginning to wonder if they store the regular/gold pass info separately from platinum pass info.

When you consider that Frankfort is a bit of a hike from both Louisville (about an hour) and Lexington (45 minutes), is it any surprise that nobody showed up for the hearing?

KI Seeks Applications For Seasonal Jobs
Oldiesmann replied to The Interpreter's topic in Kings Island
My sister got stuck cleaning at the funnel cake stand on I-Street one night and I got stuck waiting on her. Imagine sitting around bored out of your mind for three hours when you're already exhausted from your own shift at the park. That was not a fun time for either of us. -
KI Seeks Applications For Seasonal Jobs
Oldiesmann replied to The Interpreter's topic in Kings Island
My sister worked in food for several years, though I believe it was all under Paramount. It's really not much different than rides in general - you'll be on your feet all day, things can get hectic at times, you may be stuck out in the heat for a few hours (if you're placed on carts), etc. From what I understand though it's a lot of fun as well, and if you're at a stand you'll have the advantage of not having to close due to weather. You'll also be responsible for helping to clean tables and areas around your stand, and cleaning the stand at the end of the night (if you get put on the evening shift), which means you could be there fairly late, especially if you're on I-Street as those stands are some of the last to close. -
My least favorite interview question is the whole "tell us about a situation at your previous job when you were asked to do something that you didn't want to do" thing. The only advice I can give is to be open and be yourself. Don't try to answer questions based on what you think they want to hear. They're not trying to "nail" you or trick you into responding a certain way. Also keep in mind that the people doing the interviews have to ask the same questions hundreds of times a day, and probably don't enjoy asking them any more than you enjoy answering them.

Kennywood's King Kahuna Malfunctions
Oldiesmann replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Although I'm not a doctor, I honestly don't see how being stuck upside down for 10-15 minutes, as painful and uncomfortable as that would be, could cause spinal cord injuries. It sounds like Kennywood did everything "right" in this situation - getting riders off as quickly as possible, having riders checked out by medical personnel and closing the ride until it was clear that the problem had been fixed. This also brings up the question of whether the park is responsible if the injury is not reported prior to the individual leaving the park. I almost want to say they wouldn't be responsible after the person left, but, as in this case, some injuries may not be immediately noticeable. -
The tunnel was indeed added when the ride was renamed Beastie.

Inaugural CP Ohio St Day
Oldiesmann replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It will be interesting to see how well this works. The fact that they don't seem to be restricting who can claim themselves as "alumni" makes me think this is a recipe for disaster. -
Fast Lane "Plus" Comes to some of the Cedar Fair Parks
Oldiesmann replied to CoasterGeek101's topic in Kings Island
I still don't understand why Congo Falls, Dodgem, Monster, Shake Rattle & Roll, Scrambler and Viking Fury need a fast pass lane. I also think it would have made much more sense to put Diamondback on the "plus" one instead of Firehawk. Next thing you know they'll start giving Fast Pass Plus customers their own line so they can jump ahead of regular Fast Pass customers... -
uhh... that... um... Anyway, I would love to see The Racer painted as it opened, but I assume they will just stain the wood. So that means it's designed to stop and rest in the middle of the turnaround area? Funny, because two years ago it decided to take a break on the lift hill

Inaugural CP Ohio St Day
Oldiesmann replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It's for "Ohio State alumni and their guests" according to the flier. However, the flier also gives away the discount code, so I'm not sure how they verify if you're an alumnus/student. -
For those who don't know, I'm a huge fan of Archie comics. I've been reading them since I was a kid, and have been collecting them and running an Archie fan forum for about 7 years now. Anyway, one of the members of my site posted this earlier: This appeared in an Archie comic from 1971 - the final year for the famous park. It sort of makes sense given that Archie is based in the NYC area and appeals to both families and kids, but at the same time, it seems overcrowding was one of the main things that lead to the park's eventual closure, so I'm not sure why someone thought this was a good idea. Still an interesting bit of nostalgia either way.

How long has it been since you've been to Kings Island?
Oldiesmann replied to KIfan73's topic in Kings Island
According to the notes I have on my phone (I use the Android app AK Notepad to keep track of what I ride on each visit), it's been just over 7 months. My last visit was August 14th. -
New Logo Coming To KICentral!
Oldiesmann replied to LMHConcepts's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
I agree, this new logo would look nice on a t-shirt while walking around KI. I think it would start quite a few conversations with guests and other enthusiasts! My "old logo" shirt started a conversation between me and another guest last season - someone who was a regular lurker here and recognized my username -
I'm on the dev channel, so that's why. (See https://sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/dev/getting-involved/dev-channel if you don't know what I'm talking about). Version 25 is the latest stable version.

Brad - I can browse the site just fine with Chrome ("Version 27.0.1430.3 dev-m"), so it might be an issue with your setup.

I don't think Dane will force the other theme on everyone. I don't like it much either (though I've never been a big fan of dark themes to begin with).
