Soak City Question
Delirium33 replied to Delirium33's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Thanks for the advice! We decided to pick Universal Studios instead of Disneyland because I've heard the studio tour is a must-see. Thrust me if it was up to me we would be going to both (I REALLY want to ride California Sreamin'). We also will be making our first trip to Sea World in San Diego. I'm really excited. I doubt we'll have the time or money to make it to Magic Mountain, unfortunately. I'll have to look into the Giant Dipper, and I'll be sure to ride Jaguar. -
I have a quick question: My family is planning a trip to Southern California this summer and we have platinum passes. We are planning on spending time in both LA and San Diego, and want to go to one of the Soak City's to take advantage of our passes. My question is which Soak City is better: the one in Orange County, or the one in San Diego? Oh and we will be making our first trip to Knott's Berry Farm as well. Any advice?

In order of my favorite to least favorite: Beast- 10 Son of Beast- 9.5 Firehawk- 9.5 Drop Zone- 9 Flight of Fear-9 Delirium- 8 Tomb Raider- 8 Vortex- 8 Face/Off- 7 IJ:ST- 7 Adventure Express-7 Racer- 6 Top Gun- 6 Ha that was fun to do a little winter day-dreaming about all the rides. As obvious as it sounds, thinking about this makes me realize how much KI needs a BIG, signature steel coaster. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Face/Off is the tallest steel coaster in the park... and it's on the lower-half of my list.

We are panning our first trip to Cedar Point in May, so I have a couple questions too. I think we are planning to drive up on a Saturday morning and spend one night in a resort hotel to get the ERT on Sunday. Now we have KI platinum passes, which should get me into the CP parking lot for free. So my question is, for one night, is it worth paying the extra money to stay at Hotel Breakers and walk to the park (from what i understand it is very close) or should we just stay in the Breakers Express hotel and drive in and park for free. Is the Breakers Express a dump? It certainly is cheaper. We do NOT want to stay in the 'old' section of Hotel Breakers if we go. So what's our best bet?

When I went the first saturday, I got to the park around 5 and it was already very crowded, and it only got worse when the haunts started. I agree that you should get in line early. Also, the crowds really did start to die down around 11:30-12. I would try to get most of the rides done during the day if you go on a saturday. If the lines are any longer than they were when I went, you'll be lucky to get all the haunted attractions in before 12:30, in time for one last beast ride. I hoping to go on a friday sometime soon; I've been told the crowds are a fraction of what they are on saturday's.

I hope Son of Beast gets a third, maybe yellow, train. I think the ride has been reborn this year but the capacity is terrible. There were some times when i was waiting in line that there were no trains in the station for a solid two-three minutes. A third train could really get capacity up and keep the line moving. Especially with the trains being so much smaller now.

I went tonight with high expectations, and i was not disappointed. Last year when I went to Fear Fest i was terribly disappointed. What impressed me the most this year was not the attractions but the overall theming in the park. They really went all out. There were definitely more monster and scarers roaming around, and they did a really good job on sneaking up on people. I also was amazed at the amount of fog that was used. I love fog and thought it created an awesome atmosphere. And the fog got thicker and more frequent as the night went on. The overall park themeing (and scare-roamers) were WAY better than last year. The only downside was the huge crowds. I would've prefered an upcharge, because the crowds would be much more manageable and it the event would be worth paying for. We only went through 3 mazes tonight because we also hit some rides plus the lines were very long. Red Beard's Revenge was first, and that was so awesome. 9/10. Much improved from last year's cowboy carnage, which i also liked. The train one was okay, there wasn't enough sarers when we went through, and they were letting people in too often which caused a backup. But it was still pretty good and well themed. I'll give it a 6/10, but with more scares it has the potential for 8/10. After some rides we rode Trail of Terror, which had a surprisingly short line. The park needs a sign to show where the maze entrance is- its a little confusing with Firehawk and the extra crowds in X-Base. Trail of Terror was AMAZING it was extremely scary and overall very well-done. 10x better than last year, (it was a disappointment that year). 10/10. Highly recommended. Overall we had an awesome night. On a side note, I had my first night ride on Firehawk--which made a great ride even better. It's an awesome ride at night. Worth the 90 minute wait. Ill be back in 3 weeks to check out the rest of the mazes.

I can't wait. Its been 6 weeks since Ive been to KI. That's way too long. I'll be there Saturday to finally experience the 'new and improved' Halloween Haunt. I've been waiting for so long for this. I hope it lives up to its new rep. I have a feeling I won't be disappointed though. Is anyone else going to be there for opening weekend?

So is the park open to passholders on September 23? If so, it would only be for the rides, right? (no HH attractions)
-
Last year we went on opening weekend and the lines weren't bad a first but got extremely long as the night went on. Also, in my and my friends opinion, it seemed like it was missing something that first weekend. Like there wasn't enough scarers or something. Also the work site wasn't set up yet last year. Not saying it's going to be like that this year though. I'm really happy that HH is open on the weekdays leading up to Halloween. I bet the crowds are much more bearable those days. Only 23 more days....

I forget what day it was, but one day this summer I got to the park on a crowded afternoon and if you didn't know any better you'd think it was a tailgating parking lot for a football game. That's how many people were in their cars eating, some people even had blankets under the marque. You are totally right, you'd think the park would take the hint. As for my favorite place to eat at the park? I don't know why but I think LaRosa's pizza tastes so much better at the park. I think its cooked differently.

Which Halloween Haunt Attraction are You Looking Forward to Most?
Delirium33 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in KI Polls
I'm really interested to see Club Blood. It sounds like an interesting concept. But I voted for Trail of Terror because PsychoPath (which is a better name IMO) was a huge let down for me last year, when it used to be one of my favorites. I really hope they can fix it up this year and make it longer, scarier, and better than ever. Especially because the area is perfect for it. Also, Because the que is awesome how your walking into what seems like nowhere, I hope they play that up a bit too. -
If Halloween Haunt is an upcharge for passholders...
Delirium33 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in KI Polls
I voted for 5-10, only because they said 'Fear Fest' would be free this year, so if they do charge, it should be minimal. Next year? $20 would definitely be fine for me, especially if the haunts really are much better, not to mention the shorter lines. -
List of Halloween Haunt Attractions and Desc.
Delirium33 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
I can definitely see how an upcharge could be a solution to the crowd issue, and i wouldn't mind a small charge, as long as its no more than $20, especially if the event is THAT much better. But i also think that it would be absolutely ridiculous to lie to people who bought passes this year, and i dont care wat the event is called, it would be a scandal if they charged passholders THIS YEAR. That would have so many people POed, as if they already don't have people mad about food prices. So I think that charging extra is ok, just not this year. Also, I think it could be a great marketing thing that --if next year Halloween Haunt was an upcharge-- it would be free for Maxx passholders, or something like that. I know a lot of people that would go for that, including me. -
I live 30 miles south of the park. Its about a 30-45 minute strait shot up 71 for me, depending on traffic.

Curse of the Crypt used to be my favorite haunt too. This year's Fear Fest -or whatever they want to call it- sounds like its going to be awesome! I'm really interested to see what club blood is going to be like- it sounds... interesting. I'm also pumped that the park is open daily the week of Halloween. That will be a great time to go, because hopefully the lines will be more reasonable. Only 5 more weeks! lol.

O no not again. If everytime a ride breaks down somebody says tear it down as if killed everyone on it So true. lol. But I hope DZ opens in time for fear fest. That's an awesome ride to ride at night and the more attractions that are open, the shorter the lines will (hopefully) be at fear fest, and anything helps.

And in my opinion, that loop was by far the best loop in the park at that time. It was the smoothest part of the ride and the loop itself was MASSIVE- 120 feet or something like that... Does anyone know if the loop at one time was the tallest or second tallest or something?

IMO, three things need to happen as far as food prices go. 1) Food prices need to be sensible. Right now they are beyond insane. No doubt in my mind that it keeps some families from visiting the park. 2) The Gold pass meal deals need to umm accually be deals and aimed for one or two people. 3) To draw back the guests that have turned away from the food prices, they should have promotions: Half price coneys, anyone? My friends and I would be all over that. The Reds had $1 hot dogs the other day and they were sellin them like crazzy. The three of us combined bought 7 I think.

Disney's MGM Studios to be Renamed...
Delirium33 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Last time I was at MGM studios, about 4 years ago, I remember my dad commented on the high prices on merchandise or something and the worker told him that MGM stood for Mickey Gets your Money. LOL I think of that now every time I hear or see MGM. -
That would be awesome to have another haunted ride for Fear Fest! I could totally see something like that done on Adventure Express. Also, I think that they should have the entire train ride slowed down and made into a haunted hay ride-type haunt. That would have a huge capacity. I never got to go to the PT haunt or the antique cars haunt, but I heard that they were both great. I also think that the old Paramount Story area would be perfect for a haunt or scare zone.

So the people that visit the park once a year should wait in line longer since you are able to walk by them and get on a ride? And I was under the impression that the park was for everybody.... The park IS for everybody. Just because a person has to wait 50 minutes to get on a ride instead of 45 doesnt mean the park isn't for them, so I have no idea what you are talking about. Amen. I payed for the gold pass, so therefore I expect to be treated like gold. I payed extra for the perks, so my question was why can't they be available when I need to use them. Why would I feel guilty for those who have to wait? If they want the perks, they can pay for them just like we do. If anything, maybe the walk-on passes should be available for ticket holders as well for an extra cost. But if the park isn't willing to do that, why should I have guilt towards anyone? And yes, I agree the perk isn't executed very well, but once again that doesn't mean that the idea is unfair or not right.

I'm sooo sick of all this Son of Beast Bashing. Bottom line: the ride is probably the most inconsistent ride I've been on. It can be TERRIBLEBLY rough in one seat and one row or car back or forward it can be one of the smoothest and best rides in the park. But still, it's an intense, huge, unique ride to the park, and IMO one of KI's current cornerstones. When It gives a good ride, it really is amazing, and my two rides in the very front (one red, one blue), were the best two ever on that ride- period. So I'm done reading about all this negativity. [leaving topic.]

thank you i totally agree with you why is everyone complaining so much so its rough wowwww cry and be thankful we have a good record breaer that is a fun ride if u take a few asprin afterwards or before we dont have mean streak on our hands here! SOB lovers unite! lol. I just learned that the front seat of the 'New' Son of Beast gives the second best ride in the park, next to his poppa, of course. If you had a rough ride on SOB, TRY THE FRONT SEAT. It's like a different ride.
