The only real disappointment for me last Saturday was when I figured out that the speed lane weekends had ended. I was really upset. I mean, the perk is only on weekends in the first place, and on top of that it's only weekends in June and July! To me that's ridiculous. The park was packed on Saturday and there was NO reason why the walk on tickets shouldn't have been planned or at least offered that day. We would've been able to spend less time in hot line and more time in the cool festhaus if Saturday if we could've walked on rides. <Sigh> I had to get that off my back.

Its so weird because I have had smooth rides in both trains, and both today (my roughest ride in over a year, 5th car 2nd row) and Thursday (My smoothest-ever ride on SOB, front row) were both in the BLUE train. I knew I was in for a trip today when the kid getting off our seat as we were getting on was holding his head and looked like he had a major headache.
-
My ride on SoB today was the worst roughness-wise since last year as well. But my ride on it on Thursday was the BEST ride I have ever had on Son of Beast. Talk about inconsistency.

We were lucky enough to have SOB open while we were in the area. It opened right around 12:35, and we only waited 10 minutes because the ride just opened. For what it's worth: That ride on SOB today (second-last car) was the roughest I've been on since it's re-opening. It was NOT very smooth at all. I think I'll sick to the front, where I know it is smoother. While I was a little bummed at first that we weren't able to do the SOB walk-back, the scavenger hunt was an awesome back-up plan that just about made up for it.

I Just wanted to give out a HUGE THANKS to Dane, Ryan, Josh, Don, and everyone involved with planning today's event. Everything went smoothly, and it was well organized. The lanyards were awesome, and the dinner was way beyond anything that I expected. The walk-backs were incredible, and tonight I had the best Beast ride I have ever had during the ERT. There's nothing like riding The Beast front row at night after the park is closed. The day turned out to be PERFECT. It was the most fun I have had probably all summer. It was awesome being able to meet a lot of you in person. I hope this event can become an annual thing. Once again, THANKS!!

That's so true, but: My last ride on Son of Beast (The very front seat) was the first time ever on SoB that I did NOT experience any jackhammering effect on that part of the ride. It was a pleasant surprise. That ride on Son of Beast was probably the smoothest ride I have ever had on a wooden roller coaster (at KI). It was MUCH smoother than my rides on recaR and The Beast that day. Plus the first hill is a whole nother experience in the front seat. I HIGHLY recommend that you try it.

It was closed today and from what I understand it will be for a while, maybe even the rest of the season. You can see some tomb themeing behind the ride from The Beast station. Does anyone know FOR SURE what it going on with the ride? Is it a maintenance thing, are they re-themeing the ride, or something else? I hope it opens soon. While the ride doesn't seem to be overly popular, I for one love the ride.

I was at the park today and that area is now a giant concrete slab with steel beams in a pile next to it. There are also two very short, direct concrete paths paved from the foundation (que line width). One leads to the left of the entrance to Top Gun, and the other leads into Top Gun's que. This supports the rumor that it will be used as a Fear Fest attraction. My question is how the line will form- will they use Top Gun's que? Sorry, no pictures. I guess some of you will get to see for yourselves on Saturday!

Something tells me that the exclusive seating/Meet&Greet at the Ice Show is going to be a bigger hit than expected! I wasn't planning on doing that particular event, but its sounding more and more like a good idea. That theater felt like it was a perfect 60 degrees the last time I saw the show.

Hopefully last year was a transition year and this year the pass situation will be much simpler. All they need is a sticker or symbol on the Maxx passes that indicates parking passes and/or gold privileges (with the home park name). And they need to make the Maxx passes universally the same at all parks so that they scan easily. I think all of this will be sorted out for next year. At least, it should be. The simplicity and pricing of the passes will determine whether my family gets just a KI pass or a Maxx pass next year.

I rode FoF today and I like how they show your raw on-ride-video on overhead screens. That way I can see what I look like on the ride without having to pay a penny.

I checked out the old 2006 Fear Fest site today and it was updated to say 'Fear Fest 2007', and says to ceck back often for updates and announcements regarding Fear Fest. Can't wait!
-
For now, you can expect this: .....it will be big. ....like, REALLY big. ....like, frickin' GINORMOUS big. ...and you will love it. Oh yes, you will LOVE it. haha now I REALLY can't wait. This might be the first year that I go to Fear Fest more than once! Sounds like it's really gonna be awesome! BTW- Ginormous was added to the dictionary this year- its a word I use often.

I totally agree- the speed lanes should at least be open EVERY BUSY day, whether its on a weekday or weekend. And how about some REAL meal deals suitable for ONE PERSON. The food prices are ridiculous as it is and I get no benefit from the meal deals because they're a joke- no one wants to spend the money for 4 drinks, a pizza AND a salad! I agree- gold pass holder SHOULD be treated like gold.

For all you Fear Fest insiders: could you give us an idea as to when we can expect the official Fear Fest announcement? (or when the park usually make the announcement? I forget.) I'm really excited to see what FF '07 is going to be like!
-
If that is the case, wouldn't that mean that Face/Off couldn't be considered a roller coater either?

We usually don't worry about the weather unless the forecast calls for a total washout. I'm going to the park tomorrow and the forecast seems to be like a win-win situation. If it doesn't rain, obviously it will be nice. If there is a storm, it usually 'washes away' a lot of the guests, so when it passes, the crowd will be much less.

That's great news. It's been a while since I've had my last Drop Zone fix. It's one of the few rides in the park that still gets my blood pumpin'. I'll be at the water park tomorrow but now I'll have to try to make it over to AZ.

Me too im going on Wednesday also and want it open Same here I'll be at the water park mostly on Wednesday, but if DZ opens, I might have to head over to there.

As I've said before, when KI gets its next coaster, I think the station should be where FX theater is and the track should extend through the woods back behind The Racer and to the left (and out of sight) of The Beast. As far as the type of ride, I think it should be similar to Maverick but still unique. And more than likely it wouldn't be built until '09 or '10. FX theater has gone downhill fast. The building is in terrible shape, and the Spongebob movie was old about a year ago.

'Weird Al' Coming Back to Kings Island!

If you have a gold pass, isn't there some sort of priority seating? So what's the difference between a $10 ticket and a $15 one? I've always thought his work is hilarious, so I might decide to go. -
If I remember correctly, Drop Zone has been closed for over a MONTH now, and news reports said over a week ago that the ride would open within days. I know that drop zone has been waiting for a new part, but and as far as I know the ride has been completely dead for a long time. My question is has anyone seen testing or work being done to the ride lately? Or does anyone know if the new part has arrived yet? It just seems odd to me that we keep hearing that the ride is going to open soon, but it hasn't showed any signs of life in weeks. I don't want to start any rumors though...
-
I think that clearing has been there for a while now, but in my opinion, when KI builds its next coaster, whether it be next year or 4 years, I think it should be a fast, unique steel terrain coaster back in that area with the station being where FX theater is now.

We always buy our next year's passes at the end of the season simply because of the free parking. But next year ('08) we want to get Maxx passes so hopefully there is a (ki) parking deal with them as well. I also wonder if they will be more organized with the passes next year, maybe having parking and gold pass indicators on the cards. Guess we'll just wait and see...
