Currently the final brake run, ascent to the lift hill, and most of the splashdown are complete along with various supports throughout the park. "Diamondback will change the landscape for ride enthusiasts here at Kings Island." said Don Helbig, area manager of public relations for the park. Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)

The post above is correct. The construction crews have Fridays off. They work almost every other day and work into the night. -
The reason why it will be the last piece to be installed is because with the structure having been built on one side and not on the other, it would cause uneven tension on the structure.

Construction workers install a piece of track on the new Diamondback roller coaster at Kings Island. Diamondback will stand 230 feet at its tallest point and snake its way along 5,282 feet of track in excess of 80 miles hour. The $22 million steel roller coaster will be the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Kings Island when it opens in April 2009. -

I think it's pretty clear that construction started at the station and worked its way out. I wonder if it'll be like that until it's finished or if they'll start building on the other side at earlier. -
They closed it because it wasn't profitable.. simple as that. That was before Cedar Fair, though.

Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)

Don Helbig sent it to us. -
Everyone?s been watching world records happen at KI this year. On Sept. 20, visitors to KI can be part of a world record by participating in the longest line dance with four members of the Rocketts. Registration will take place at the park that day. Open to anyone that wants to be part of history and in the Guinness Book of World Records.
-
Yeah, I went to Toronto in '01 and had a similar deal.
-
Let's make every day a KIC Day. lol The idea of having an overnight event at the park was pitched to us for KIC Day this year. Not so much that the rides would be open all night, but we were going to have KIC Day then have everyone 'camp out' in the park all night and have breakfast in the morning. Needless to say there were WAY too many logistical barriers to overcome for that to be put into motion. I can't say we wouldn't explore the idea in the future, but we'd have to start planning something like that many months in advance.
-
It probably doesn't hurt that the Canadian dollar is worth a little more than the US dollar now as well.
-
I think KIC Day next year should be a 12pm to 12pm affair.
-
I realize that. However what we don't know is the vary essence of the loss... Was Geauga basically flat line with little to no hope of being profitable, or was it loosing $100 million per year? That would have a heavy bearing on the fiscal report.
-
...or it could have helped. Maybe the dry side showed a loss. They were never clear about it. They attributed their $7m net loss during the last fiscal year to the razing of Geauga. I'm curious as to what the net income will be at the end of this year.
-
I wonder how the closure of the dry side of Geauga Lake affected revenue as a whole.

^ I was referring to this comment. It's too early to assume that the show will be awful or captivating at this point. So the show's crowd tapering off may or may not happen. We simply don't know. We don't even have a clear description of what it is. It could be the next Godfather... or the next Gigli. Only time will tell. I think the crowds at the shows are directly proportional to the amount of people in the park that day. It'd be an interesting psychology study to see why people leave shows early. It could be that they weren't impressed... or Shapiro could be right in saying that people only go to shows for a cool place to sit down for a few minutes. In that case, throw in the DVDs.
-
So you've decided that GGW is a bad show even though we really know nothing about it yet...
-
You're absolutely right, but who's the judge of what's a good show and what's not? Heck, some of the highest rated shows on TV are ones that bore me to death, but they make a lot of other people happy.

16K sure sounds like about half of 30K. Plus you mentioned several local attractions that may do 1,000 on a good night. I'm not taking anything away from Dent. Some of the people who run that are the same ones who ran Nightmare Estates on Waterpark Dr. I'm just saying that Halloween Haunt is clearly very popular. You can compare it to all sorts of attractions across the nation and say one is better or draws more, but the fact of the matter is Halloween Haunt almost can't draw more people because of the incredibly long lines that it has already. The last thing we need is another 10,000 people roaming around the park.
-
Once the Dent Schoolhouse draws 30,000 people in one night, we'll talk.
-
You were talking about me right there about the claiming to be in this stuff, weren't you? Thanks for making me wanna work Haunt again because I enjoy it. Not necessarily you personally, but anyone who would be familiar enough with the mazes to know what's changed and what hasn't. You have to realize that the average person probably only goes through 3 or 4 of the mazes per year.
-
True -- and sometimes it works out well... sometimes it doesn't. Red Beard's Revenge was a cowboy theme then a pirate theme... basically the same thing just with different costumes. However the Work Site improve by leaps and bounds over the years.
-
You know, The Vortex has been the same for over 20 years, The Beast for almost 30 years, The Racer for 36... and they're adding Diamondback next year... just because a ride isn't new to you doesn't mean it's not new to someone else... same goes for mazes. They'll add one or two every year, maybe even remove a maze or two, but they're not going to completely revamp each and every maze every year just so those who claim to be into this stuff can have something to talk about. HH will progress... it has progressed... but it takes time.
-
As detailed in the press release issued today, HH is free to all 2008 season passholders. http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...t=0&start=0 I regret any inconvenience the earlier information may have caused you. I hope it didn't.....wait for it.....scare you. I read that and thought you were wrong but didn't want to say anything until I knew for sure. HH was marketed at the beginning of the season as being "free to Gold Pass holders" but clearly the confusion that actually doing that would be terrible on both the guests and the park.
