Cedar Fair's Expansion of PKI Parking Lot Vending Runs Into a Snag
BoddaH1994 replied to deb's topic in Kings Island
Absolutely Reliable is a joke web site. It's 100% fictional. Heck, Roger Machina isn't even a real person to my knowledge. The park's spokespeople are Don Helbig and Craig Ross. -
So is this like a Christian MTV or what?

Plus I imagine that the Picnic Grove is VERY profitable as it is or it would have been removed a LONG time ago.

AMEN!!! I rode SoB today (4th time with the new cars) while my ride today was maybe a touch rougher than last time, I still believe it is definitely smoother than The Racer, and depending what seat, smoother than The Beast. If you haven't been on Sonny with the new cars, definitely give the ride another try. The ONLY real rough part is bottom of the double helix. That part of the ride was no smoother than last week. Once again, my friends whom I rode with are with me on this. Also for all the SoB haters: I was at the park today from open to 4, and SoB was the longest wait we had all day, and we rode every major ride. While the capacity might be lower than before, we just under 60 minutes minutes to ride Sonny [however, there was a 20 minute delay due to someone who needed medical attention in the station (due to a bee sting, I think) and then a test cycle]. Each of the three times I saw the line in the morning (10AM to 2), it was PAST the service road underpass (with no gates open). One time it was getting near the entrance to the ride, and that was before the Friday afternoon crowd. Waits for other major rides this morning/early afternoon were between (5-20 minutes) My Point: Sonny was the 2nd most popular ride in the park next to Firehawk today. The public now has a lot of interest in the ride. I think the word is out that the ride is smoother and people want to see for themselves. The question is: will the interest in the ride last for a while? I think it will. Long live Son of Beast! SOB will be hit or miss for the rest of the season as far as lines are concerned. I went on July 5th and waited an hour, but went about a week later and walked right now. The ride has gotten a lot of media attention in the past few weeks, which could spark an interest. It's a matter of whether or not that interest remains.

No, however I was watching Channel 5 news locally (Cincinnati Market) and they said it was down for preventative maintenance.

I just got an email from Don Helbig asking me to inform you that Son of Beast has reopened to the public. He also mentioned that Drop Zone won't be long either! Happy riding, Ryan

Yes. We're going to try to limit it to 200-250 people. If we start getting up there, I'll let everyone know. Yeah, we've run into that. The tickets thus far have all been dated for 7/11/07, which oddly enough is the day we announced the event. I can assure you that both KICentral and Kings Island are aware of the problem and I will report any resolve (if any as needed) as soon as I get some information. I'm not sure about the $29.95 admission thing. That was a Kings Island thing, not a KIC thing. It's likely that the first tour will be before they open the admissions windows, so I wouldn't count on using that for the event.

I think Lin's right. But then, the day that people quit going to KI specifically to ride SOB is the day that it becomes firewood.
-
Oh that is a treat. Did you prompt them by saying, "Remember that ride that you could have been injured on?" Yeah.. I was gonna say... how eager can they be to ride?

From my understanding, for larger scale parks like KI, selling rides is more of a conveniece thing than anything. Simply put: they'd rather make a few bucks selling a removed ride than having to find somewhere to store it. In big business terms, selling the rides gets you pocket changed. It's kind of like if you ate at McDonald's and someone offered you two or three pennies to take your trash for their future use. You probably wouldn't bend over to pick up a few pennies off the ground, but hey, at least you don't have to go through the trouble of throwing your own trash away.

Family Sueing Six Flags
BoddaH1994 replied to Cortney's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I suppose we see so many cases of death an injury from people just not following the rules that we loose site of things when innocent people get really hurt. No one should have to fear for their lives or safety at a park so whoever is responsible for such a thing. Well, they should pay.... -
Well, thanks for the kind words! We have worked with the marketing/PR department a few times, mainly casting for TV filmings, but this event is certainly the biggest synergy we've had with them. A KI museum? Well, that would be an interesting project. ACE was working with them to make a RC museum within the park, but not unlike the real ACE museum in Pennsylvania, nothing ever materialized. If they asked us to, we'd certainly be up for it!
