  1. Why is my prediction unlikely? Designers survey the lay out of the area of future expansion and see if any older ride stations could be incorporated into the new attraction. I am not saying Don is wrong but that things can change once designs are made and announced in the next few years. Nothing has been designed yet and until it has, construction plans and budgets finalized, nothing will be announced. Just wait and see what happens in the next 2 to 4 years from now.
  2. I state my message on this subject as "my opinion" so as not to confuse my association with Kings Island as to it being fact, which it is not. As for my feelings for a wooden coaster, is because I prefer a roller coaster made out of wood, just as others love the steel coaster. I have always believed that a roller coaster will replace SOB sometime in the near future, just as others have given their preference for a new area, new flat rides, and so forth. I just can not think that a designer would not try to fit the old ride station into a new attraction like a roller coaster just as with the old Crypt building might be used in any ride, if it can. I know Don has stated it both the old ride station and the Crypt would be used for the haunt events, but things can change in the years to come. Cedar Point has removed old attractions for the new Gate Keeper and with the removal of SOB, I can see a new roller coaster to take its place sometime in near future. Like I said, it is all my opinion and not to confuse it with my association with the park. I am not stating I heard from some ride op or from the guy serving ice cream out of a cup. It was just like all the opinions of fellow KICers that were itching for a mew roller coaster after Cedar Fair took over and after Firehawk was constructed, the same messages regarding what new roller coaster were were getting. Then after Diamondback, well we are due as these same posters would say. We will find out after plans are designed and construction begins in the next few years to come.
  3. I listen to Sirius/XM Radio to talk radio and Classic Rewind or Classic Vinyl. On the FM dial, it would be 92.5 The Fox I will listen to and 700WLW for Reds ballgames.
  4. They will have to remove that old coaster from the water. As it is now, it would be a hazard to both people and vessels. It will break up and block the area as it is rebuilt. I look for the US Coast Guard to order its removal as being a hazard to navigation and to public health.
  5. The old ride station will continue to be used for the haunt event until it is decided to be used as the new roller coaster's ride station, in my opinion. The park used to old ride station from The Bat as the ride station for Vortex and it will be the same for any new roller coaster in the area that used to be SOB. It would only make sense to use it rather than build a new one. Until then, use it for the haunt event. This is my opinion and why not use it until it is used again as a ride station? When the new roller coaster is built in the near future, it will be used what it was designed for when it was built. It is the same way with the ride formerly called the Crypt. Use that building until they decide what its future use would be. I say any new roller coaster (must be wood in my opinion) would be in operation around 2015 and would have the old station as its ride station. After all, it is already there so take advantage of it. If not, then it just takes up valuable land just for use during the fall haunt season, which is all my opinion as is the new ride.
  6. I know with Kings Island, they start accepting online applications in December. I would check it out and complete the online application and send in a resume or attach it on the online form. We know Don is the marketing manager and I would inquire with him if you want a marketing position. When I was at The Mount, our business department had contacts with Cincinnati Bell and AT&T just to name a few that we had internships with.
  7. I would guess they made strategic cuts in the supports and attach a cable to it and pulled it down.
  8. Have you checked with your career office or department head at your college? Find out the department heads at the various amusement parks and send a resume to both them and the HR at each park. I know the IT and the marketing departments at Kings Island hires interns and other departments might also. Check the jobs section at each parks web site and click on those for further information.
  9. As Dandy Don, on Monday Night Football, used to sing at the end of the game, "Turn out the lights, the party's over!"
  10. I would guess that the children love to see the Dinos and the parents tag along.
  11. They listen to Bang a Gong by T--Rex!
  12. I can't speak for UPS, but when I worked for FedEx, if you shipped an item with us that was a local delivery, it would be sorted at the local station, transported to the airport for them to sort it into carriers to go to the station that serves your location. It would not go to Memphis to be sorted and then shipped back here. Depending on the service selected, it would arrive anywhere from next day to 3 day delivery. I would think UPS would be the same way. Go to their main sort location in Sharonville and then to your house.
  13. Deep fried worms? Crunchy fried worms? BBQ flavored worms? They are an excellent source of protein, which my green beret friend said they learned in search and rescue and survival training. He said they are very tasty with a little bit of hot sauce poured on them. They might be, but ask the people that ate them after chugging the liquor and swallowed the worm in the bottle!
  14. If I think if Winterfest were to be brought back, it would be limited to the area in and around International Street. It would be to cold for the rides to operate and the park would have staffing problems to have the entire park or most of it opened.
  15. When we type our thoughts, it is done at a fast pace and we do not proof read it like you would do in an English class or creative writing course. We check the spelling and the content of our thoughts, then press the enter key.
  16. This person sure hasn't spent much time in school as his written speech shows. From the way this person's spelling and lack of grammar is, I highly doubt he or she knows how to spell IOU.
  17. I lay the problem with these teens and pre-teens on the parents for not teaching them the proper set of values that they need to succeed in life. They have been given everything to them in life without earning it. When I grew up, my parents instilled in me a set of values that taught me what is right and what is wrong. They raised me that if I did something that I was supposed to do, they make it known in a way that taught you not to do it again. They would make sure that I did my school work and not allow me to do outside activities unless I completed them and made good grades. I would be punished me if I didn't follow their rules and would not bribe me with material things. If I wanted something, then I had to earn it myself as unlike the government, they had limited income and could not afford things that they could not afford. One thing for sure, they would not drop me off at Kings Island on my own with my friends just to get me out of their hair. What these kids need if they act this way is to know there are consequences for their actions. If they have season passes, then revoke them. If they complain that it is not fair, then tough cookie. They made their bed and now lay in it. In the real world, they would be arrested (which they need just to scare them) and be force to pay for their actions in some way or another. If they continue with this type activities, they will find out when they really grow up (if they do) life is not fair. Either they grow up fast or they will not succeed in life.
  18. Here is my take on the flame war: There should not be flaming of any sort against any opinion that a user might make. Web sites like this needs members to voice their opinions, experiences, and other discussions regarding the amusement sector of all types. I see lots of people that give the impression they are experts about all aspects that relates to roller coasters. This is all based on their love of the roller coaster rides and learning everything they can regarding the ride from various web sites and articles. Some have learned more than others. Then you have users like me who just want to enjoy a ride and can care less as far as who makes it, the engineering specs, the construction details, and so forth. When I see users commenting on a ride and another user responds that they are wrong, that is not the way to do things. People read these and when they see someone is flamed because someone didn't like their opinion, they begin to wonder why they even come here or why they should stay. Web sites only exists because of its membership base. Once it starts to have a reputation of users flaming others, then it looses its base and will not grow. I have seen various web sites shut down because of issues like this and the users go where they are welcome. The problem when some users would rather see people get offended and leave this site than to maintain an annoying presence here as 74gibson stated is wrong. It is ok to voice your opinion but not ok to say your opinion is wrong. Just my thoughts.
  19. It would be great if Kings Island would put in another camp ground to replace the old one they used to have. There is plenty of good land that could be used with good access to the road and to the park. I work in the pet care and we used to be almost 75% filled on a regular basis and half full during the week. We still do get a lot of guests that board their pets that had to camp someplace else near Lebanon. The former camp grounds were constantly busy and filled on a regular basis. I heard rumors that Paramount was interested in a new camp ground but was nixed during the Cedar Fair purchase. Wonder if Cedar Fair would be interested in constructing a new camp ground in the future?
  20. In my criminology classes in college, before an assault can be proven and prosecuted it has to have people that actually witness it or seen by a police or on video. Otherwise, even if they arrest them on it, it will be dropped or reduced based on the lack of evidence. If he is drunk and acts it, then he can be charged with public intoxication or disorderly conduct. You see acts like this on these cop reality shows only to have the charge dismissed due to lack of evidence.
  21. My take on these flame wars is this: Lots of users think themselves as expert on everything regarding roller coasters as to their constructions, ride specs, upkeep, technical data, ride experiences, and so forth all because they like to ride them over and over again. They go to the manufacturers web site and gain all the knowledge they can. But the average person only cares about how the ride feels and can care less who makes it and how it is constructed, like me. But when someone comes here and tries to explain why they feel that a wooden coaster is cheaper to maintain vs a steel coaster, all based on their opinion, they get flamed. These users decide this web site is not for them due to how its long time members treat them and don't come back. These "roller coaster" experts gain their knowledge base on their non-stop rides on the coasters that they enjoy and visiting the web sites of companies that construct the rides and not on them being engineers that design the rides and their construction. Users like me and the ones being flamed only care about how the ride feels and ask a question on how they feel what cost more to maintain like in this question on is it cheaper to cut wood on wooden coasters or fabricate new steel and supports on steel coasters, We should try to encourage users to voice their opinions and not flame them if these experts here decide they are wrong and flame them. Otherwise, users like these will come and decide that this site is not for them and quit. Just be thankful that this is not a pay site and if it was, it would be loosing revenue and would not be open for long, as sites that I have been a member of. We need to be more civil with each other and this is my opinion.
  22. Those footers look just like grave stones by the way they are neatly aligned.
  23. Depends on how many wants to buy them. There's plenty of wood, bolts and rails they can put on sob plaques. There is plenty they can sale if they wish. A couple years ago, I bought a new Titanic model that was listed as a "limited edition" and only made 1500 and each kit was numbered. This year the kit maker came out with the exact same kit and added a booklet and called it the "centennial edition" kit.
  24. When I travel on the PA Turnpike, all the restrooms in the rest areas have automatic commodes, urinals, sinks, and hot air hand dryers or no hand paper towel dispensers. Those cost more but could be a thing for the park to consider. But didn't some of the park's restrooms at the front gate and Action Zone used to have automatic commodes and urinal flush devices?
  25. The way to wash and dry your hands without touching sinks, paper town dispensers it to dispense the paper towel first, turn on the water, press your hand under the soap dispenser, wash your hands, turn off the water using your elbow or rip the towel and dry your hand, then turn off the sink with the towel. As for the hot air hand dryers, how many people take the time to wait and use them? But I prefer the hand dryers that sense your hand and turn on and off, and the same way with sinks. The park used to have automatic flush toilets and urinals but have been removed at the front gate restrooms. It would be simple to go with all restrooms having automatic everything then you will not have to touch anything.
