  1. Any wood that is not sold could be sold to a pulp mill and or recycled for other uses. I doubt it would be put into a landfill. Any used metal would be sold for scrape and be melted down into other steel products.
  2. When I lived in Kings Mills, it only took me 10 minutes to get to work at Kings Island.
  3. With the way people drive without looking where they are going, they probably had an accident. Once when I was out working at the south tolls in the morning, a person in a hurry ran into another car. It seems that person had a little too much to drink, even at mid morning.
  4. Actually, they were staying inside the kennel, except for the squirrels and the mice. You will b e surprised the animals that people bring to board while they are in the park. But skunks are throughout the park and while working nights, be on the lookout unless you have tomato juice by the tanker.
  5. I have seen all king of animals at the park. I have seen mice, squirrels, ferrets, pigs, goats, cats, dogs, snakes, cranes, opossums, rats, crabs (sea variety), monkeys, parrots, wood chucks and oh yea, even several DUCKS! But speaking of wood chucks - how much wood would a wood chuck, chuck it if wood chuck could chuck, chuck, chuck?
  6. That is one of the reasons that I don't watch WLWT news. The only segment I like there are the sports. Channel 5, where news comes last.
  7. All employees have been told to park in the softball field instead of the regular employee parking lot for October 6 and October 13 due to the expected larger than usual crowds. Nothing yet on the rest of the Saturdays in the month.
  8. Large crowds are also expected for Saturday, October 13.
  9. Big crowds are expected, but as for why, who knows. I would go either Friday or Sunday or come EARLY on Saturday.
  10. That coaster would really have a one of a kind thrill after that drop!
  11. Who says we don't talk trash here at KIC?
  12. Also a security guard might recognize him and detained him for being in the park after being banned. Kings Island does not have the video cameras like casinos in Las Vegas that use facial recognition software for people on the do not enter list.
  13. Any new ride that might or will be planed, will need new footings to be dug and concrete poured. When I assisted on the mono rail footings, we started digging them in September of 1973 when the weather was still nice and warm and the ground was not frozen. Whatever ride they have planned, I don't look for footers to be dug and poured until sometime in 2013 when the weather is warm and the ground is not frozen, sometime from spring to sometime in the fall.
  14. I have seen security force people who were drinking beer at the picnic tables dump it on the grass. I have seen guest escorted out of the park that were intoxicated and causing problems. During the regular hours during the season, the purpose of guest leaving the park is to eat and not drink and drink to excess. During the Haunt, guests have tried to enter the park with of all things a belt make out of bullets, among other things. During the times when they used to have Grad Nites, it was not uncommon for the guests to get drunk and cause trouble. I worked at the local Holiday Inn and saw first hand how drunk these minors were and caused all kinds of trouble for the motel. It was one of the reasons for it being discontinued. It is to prevent people in Haunt from going out and having something to drink. But it is well posted as to the no reentry policy during Haunt. When you have lot of intoxicated guests it is and will cause problems with fights and what not.
  15. This might be a dumb question, but why can't you enter the park after 7pm? It seems like if you have a season pass you should be able to come to the park at any time during it's operating hours. I've never been to Halloween Haunt, so does it work differently for that? The reason season pass holders must have their hand stamped is how the pass is counted to keep track of the attendance during each day's visit. it tracks your visit each day and the system shows how many guests are in the park at any given moment, minus the guests that leave the park. Read the back of the pass and it shows the policy of no reentry without a hand stamp. It is the same with parking. Keep your receipt to gain entry into the parking lot without paying again to park.
  16. It has always been a policy that every guest must have their hand stamped, including season pass holders, before they leave in order to reenter the park. It is clearly posted that during Haunt events, there is NO REENTRY after 7Pm and they were told that and they still chose to leave the park. It has always been that policy. It is not like Ki all of a sudden made that policy just to target them, but rather, it has been the policy for a long time. If they wanted to go out for dinner, they should had left sooner. But look at the hassle they had to go through to walk to their car, leave and then come back and park further away and walk back to the front gate again. Is it really worth the few dollars that they would save for dinner? Why not do what others do and bring a cooler and leave it in the car and then go back and take the cooler to the front picnic tables near the season pass building? Or take a chance and leave their cooler at the tables like others do? It is their own fault and not Kings Island's fault.
  17. When I was in maintenance during 1973, we started to construct the Lion Country Safari in September and by Christmas we had the vast majority of the footers for the mono-rail dug and competed. I was one of two laborers that worked with a crew of rough carpenters and rod buster. We dug and put all the forms for the footers and I grouted all the footers when they were all completed. All the plans were made before September of 73 and our construction schedule was made out. Right now, they are tearing down SOB and it will most likely go into November or December. The weather will turn cold and the ground will start to freeze, which will make it harder to dig and pour the concrete for the footers. I would think plans are made or nearly made and just need to announce it when construction does begin. Whatever type of ride is planned, we should see something in the spring of 2013 or the fall. I am sure there will be a big announcement, just like they did with the new, revamped Soak City.
  18. It sounds like the teenager will be charged with underage drinking and the older man allowing this. Also could be charged with threatening due to their threats against the lady. If the older guy was drunk then public intoxication and both could also be charged with disorderly conduct. The only way the teenager could had been drunk was either going out to the car to drink or the guy bought it for him or both. If they had both had season passes, they can kiss their pass goodbye. They can tell it to the judge.
  19. If you are concerned about the crowds, both parks will be crowded and beings you live closer to CP, I would go there. It is a good thing that parks like Kings Island has horrible crowds as it means more revenues and the Haunt is a success. If crowds were light instead, it would be just another post season weekend as it was before halloween events started. The lack of crowds was one of the reasons why Winterfest did not return after its 2005 revival. Look for the next two Saturday's to be very crowded at Kings Island for Haunt.
  20. I have not rode ANY ride since 2005. With all the screws and rod in my cervical spine, I will not ride any roller coaster. But my last coaster that I rode was the FOF.
  21. It was okayed to run again by the state but KI decided it was not up to their standards. It had a bad history and no matter how well it was re-configured, its reputation would hold it back. Also any guest that complained of a a bad back or whatever, they would seek out a lawyer and the whole legal process would continued again even if they had a prior condition. It would had carried lots of bad baggage and guests would not ride it. So rather than risking mega bucks on it, it was cost effective to tear it down and replace it in the future. It is kind of like putting lots of bucks into a clunker and not trusting it to take you places and buy a new car instead.
  22. Call 513-754-5700 and ask to be transferred to the 24 hr security line. I would give the direct number but I am not sure I am allowed to give it. The number for KI security is 513-754-5728 Obviously, don't call it unless you have a legitimate reason to speak to security at KI. In an emergency, dial 911. Just a reminder that if you are at the park and dial 9*1*1 on your cell phone, it goes to Warren County communication and they direct the call. Calls made on Kings Island phones in the park goes to communications at the park and not Kings Island Police and they direct the call via two way radio for KI police. If you are at the park and need to contact KI Police and it is not an emergency, contact any security guard and they will contact them for you or direct you where to go.
  23. I always loved riding The Racer backwards. Going forward, you can see where you are going but when going backwards, you can see where you have been.
  24. Do you remember the scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom when they are all seated down for the feast when they are served the maggots and when Kate wanted just a plain soup, she dipped the spoon and out came an eye ball. Or the scene in ST:TNG where Riker is served the worms or maggots or whatever it was, and he ate it down without batting an eye. Now KI will not serve anything like that, but show for the guests a feast similar to this that the dead might be feasting on as they traverse the haunt.
  25. So if Subway happens to have boloney, longhorn colby cheese, rye bread, and horseradish mustard, among all the rest of their lunch meats they can't make me a sandwich with those if it is not listed on the register?
