  1. Well, I obviously don't know what it is, so I have no idea if that makes me a moron or not. Maybe it would help if you could point out which of us are morons and which of us aren't. If it turns out my name is on your "Morons" list, then I'll be happy to crawl back into my hole and remain a silent lurker. Please let us know. I learned more from Terps one post than all the others combined on this thread (the footers is only thing interesting otherwise). I use the word moron with a smile and a laugh not to be taken serious (sorry). Shucks, I'm probably the biggest moron on here! Don't sweat it. I'm not the brightest bulb on the string of Christmas lights, so a lot of times I don't know how to interpret what Terp says. I wish I did.
  2. A few days ago I noticed an interesting Google satellite image of I305: The final turn into the brake run must be cloaked. You can clearly see the track is there, but it's not casting a shadow on the ground below like the rest of the ride.

  4. So which is it? If your "source" is so reliable, why are you now saying it will be an Intamin?
  5. That's an interesting point. Is it possible they designed Diamondback to deliberately jackhammer as part of the ride experience?
  6. Well, with the pictures of food on the side and the walk-up window, my guess is it's an armored Brinks truck. Think, my friend....think. YES, it's a food truck. Sorry, I couldn't resist. It was just begging for a sarcastic, smart-alec response.
  7. I agree 150%. Both are exactly what Kings Island needs.
  8. And you get to define what is good, is that right? You have yet to show me any facts upon which you base your assessment that a coaster is better simply because it goes faster. Look, I don't mean to sound a like a jerk. I don't like it when people make me feel unwelcome, so I will say "Welcome to the site". But you're making unfounded statements without backing them up. They amount to nothing more than your opinion. I have yet to get what I would like to see at KI, while in the meantime they've given the park a whole lot of things over the years that other people wanted. I've had to deal with that. Now....pardon me, but I need to hang it up for the night. I really am getting a headache. Ugh!
  9. Well, everyone's entitled to their opinions....though yours is actually a relative statement. Do you have facts to prove that a coaster is better simply because it goes faster? Ah...I see. That explains why there are so many coasters with "gimmicks" that have been built, and which are still being built.
  10. I've not really seen or heard anyone that has said that KI NEEDS a Giga coaster right now. Will the park collapse if it doesn't get one right away? It hasn't yet. When CW announced Leviathan, it was almost certain that some thought that KI was getting a B&M Giga the following year (this year). However, it didn't and the park is still standing. To answer your question, why does the park need a Giga right now? At this very moment, it doesn't. Does the park need a Giga? I'd say yes. Why? To complete the idea of reaching new heights for the park. B&M rides in general are people eaters, so why not do so with a coaster that reaches 300 feet? Or any height or style of coaster? But why a giga? Because the park can, B&M can make it, the Giga coaster for B&M is something still new, there can still be tweaks made from Leviathan's layout and building process. Okay. I'm sure we're probably in agreement about KI getting a giga. It's just my own personal contention that it doesn't need it right now. I would rather first see a full-circuit invert, stand up, or floorless with some inversions (ie. Zero-G roll, Immelman, Inclined loop) we don't currently see on any coaster at KI - and then they can give us a giga. But for people who insist on having one right away....sorry, I just humbly disagree. It's all good. Carry on with the discussion, guys.
  11. Question, which park actually has every single type of coaster out there that fills up the coaster catalog?I don't understand the "in" thing because there were only 3 B&M hyper coasters that have opened between 2008-2010. One respectively for each year in the United States. Between the 2008 and now, I've seen more relocations of coasters and "new" types of coasters than constantly adding the same type of coaster throughout numerous parks. The new "in" thing is Wing Coasters because there were two that opened last year and one this year. So I guess that cancels out the inversions are no longer fun thought. In 2012, there was not a single Wooden Coaster that opened, so that wasn't the "in" thing, but this year, 3 have opened. Is that the new "in" thing? But to the comment of Hypers are no longer enough, how many parks can add a hyper? Should parks that already have a hyper add another? I seem to look at Canada's Wonderland that has a B&M Hyper and a B&M Giga and both attractions are doing just fine. I've got a few friends that visit that park frequently and both seem to have the same wait times generally. We've seen that the 300 foot mark hasn't curbed people for looking for more speed, height and airtime. Look at Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka. They both have long lines generally. 400 ft plus. So I guess the question you're really asking is when is it enough. Well we won't know until we reach that point. Those who visit amusement parks tastes change constantly with the type/age/area of people. What was once thrilling in the 80s is no longer thrilling in 2013 generally. There are some rides that fit the category for some, but not for others. I guess I'm just frustrated with your post because you are speaking of the thoughts of all the coaster enthusiasts and "everyone." Me, do I want a Giga? Yes. Why? Because I think they are fun (I've only been on Intamin's), they give airtime and I love over-banked turns. Would I be happy if KI got an Inverted Coaster in 2014? Yes. Why? Because Inverts are fun. Would I be happy if KI got a coaster in 2014? Yes. Why? Because the park could benefit from any new coaster. Just because you've heard a certain number of enthusiasts or whatever that have said they want to get their "high" doesn't mean that everyone feels the same way. When talking about Coaster Enthusiasts remember you're talking about a lot of people on here and not everyone here feels the same way that you think all coaster enthusiasts feel. Obviously I'm not getting my point across. I'm not going to aggravate my carpal tunnel trying to convey a particular message when no one is understanding my point. But I will clarify a bit more and say I'm not talking about ALL coaster enthusiasts. I'm talking about the ones who have a "gotta have more and higher and faster" mentality in order to stay satisfied. Why does KI need a giga right now? Answer that question for me. Will the park collapse if it doesn't get one right away? Expressing myself clearly has always been a problem I've had. So I give up. You make a valid point about the fuel cost. But $25 million worth of gasoline comes out to be 6,250,000 gallons. How much gas did those things use on a seasonal basis? I wonder how many years the antique cars could operate on the money it would take just to build a new giga. You know what would have been cool - meandering the antique cars in and out through the Diamondback layout. Interesting contrast between a really slow old ride and a really fast new one. ha ha. Anyway, I digress.
  12. Just to clarify something...I'm not against the thrill seeker's interest in riding coasters. I'll be the first one to admit I wish KI would get an invert, or floorless, or standup that contains multiple inversions. What I am addressing is the mentality of needing higher and faster in order to be satisfied. Some people have said they want a giga simply because KI doesn't have one. My contention is that KI doesn't need one...at least not now. There are some holes in its coaster lineup that could stand to be filled first. Clearly there was a time when coaster enthusiasts were satisfied with rides such as Vortex, but then CP built Magnum and suddenly Vortex was no longer the apple of a coaster lover's eye. So you had all these hypers being built at different parks (which took KI 20 years to get a steel version), and it was the "in" thing...inversions were no longer fun. What was fun was height, speed, and air time. Then they started building gigas....and now suddently the hypers are no longer enough. Everyone wants a giga in order to get their "high". What happens when a giga is no longer enough? I wish they'd bring back the antique cars. They may not be a "thrill" ride, but even as an adult I found them to be fun and relaxing.
  13. Kings Island is a family-oriented park. It's not in the business of always pleasing the thrill junkies who need a bigger, badder, faster coaster to provide their rush for them. If they had been listening to you, don't you think they would have had a full-circuit invert, a floorless, and a giga long before now? Don't you think they would have replaced King Cobra with another world-class standup coaster within a couple of years after removing it? Don't you think they would have built a custom flying coaster, instead of giving us a leftover from Geauga Lake? It took them 20 years....TWENTY YEARS....just to get a steel hyper coaster. I stand by my thoughts. KI doesn't need a giga. Not now anyway. Sorry my opinion is ruining the party for everyone.
  14. You misunderstood my post. I didn't mean there weren't any coasters at KI with inversions. I meant it would be great to get a coaster that had some inversions we don't currently see on a KI coaster. In other words, we don't have anything with a Zero-G roll, inclined loop, or a dive loop/Immelman. I wasn't actually directing my comment AT you, but rather in response to what you said. It made me think. A "monstrosity" is something which is actually TOO huge....or "incredibly large and ugly". One huge coaster on that entire SOB footprint would seem to be a waste of space which could be used for other projects. Says you... To others speed and height ARE everything. One simple question: Why? In my ever-so-humble but outspoken opinion, the only reason a giga exists is for the sake of feeding the thrill enthusiasts' desire for ever-increasing height and speed. But then after they've had their fill and get bored, they crave more...something even higher and faster. At what point does it become enough? Read my previous post. At what height and speed would a coaster need to be for it to satisfy you? And what happens when you get bored with it, but there are no other higher and faster coasters left to conquer? Absolutely! Bravo! Right on, man! Funky, outrageous, mondo, hip, I can dig it. Er...sorry 'bout that. I temporarily regressed back to my youth.
  15. May I respectfully ask....why are many people so hung up on getting a giga? We already have Diamondback which gives you enough speed and airtime. Yeah, it's a hyper, but the point is we already have a decent steel coaster that provides a similar experience of going fast over some hills. Wouldn't you guys rather see us get something which has some inversions we don't yet see on ANY coaster at KI? Why do other parks get all the prestige of having one? Why did Wonderland, Kings Dominion and Carowinds ALL have inverts while KI only got a suspended coaster? Why do many other parks have stand-up coasters with multiple inversions, and yet we still don't have one. Come one, what's the fascination with dropping over 300' and flying along a track at 90+mph? Isn't that boring? I want something that is more interesting than that, and if we were to get a giga, I'd be extremely disappointed. I sometimes think people want a giga just for the sake of saying we have one. Big deal. Are some of you that much of a thrill junkie? What would happen after you got tired of the giga? Then would you want KI to build a 400' coaster? WHERE would they put it? And then after you got bored with that, would you want another one that goes 500', heads out toward I-71 and speeds along the median of the expressway, passing up cars before dropping into a tunnel and coming up into a loop over the interstate lanes? What 'high' is going to be enough for you? I agree.I third that. Doesn't anyone else think inverts are outdated? And head swirlers? No, I don't think inverts are outdated. If that's the thought process, why did we even get Diamondback to begin with? I mean, by the time we finally got it, hypers had already been around for 20 years. Magnum opened in 1989, and look how long it took for KI to finally get a steel hyper. Not only that, but why do they still build wooden coasters? Aren't they outdated by now? I think this is a monstrosity. Gatekeeper was built within a short time frame September-March. So Kings Island starting construction this early may suggest that we are getting something larger than Gatekeeper, and that itself is a monstrosity. Or it could just mean they want to get started early so they can work on other stuff in the old SOB footprint. There's nothing written in stone stating all that open space has to be used for only one ride. THANK you! Nice to see someone else feels the same way about it that I do.
  16. Is that a groundhog in picture 4? Never mind. You already answered that....I just overlooked it. Sorry.
  17. Like Phantom's Revenge.
  18. There's a first for everything, right? Who knows...maybe KI is building the worlds tallest, longest, and fastest invert. I've ridden Alpengeist, and it does not utilize the terrain in a way where it drops into a 60 foot valley, goes through inversions, and then has the speed to get back up and out of it and back into the station. There's such a thing as a second lift hill.
  19. Actually, it wasn't my post, so I can't take credit for it. It was KingsIsland#1Fan's post. I simply quoted it to tell him how to make the image smaller.
  20. Open it in Paint, resize it and save as a .jpg.
  21. But when any mud is thrown against a wall, it generally leaves some traces behind.
  22. So there's a possibility it could be right about this...? Have they ever gotten a prediction wrong - especially this early in the construction?
  23. How many B&M 4D coasters have you been on? or parts of holiday world? Or the Cincinnati Zoo. Oh wait...not an amusement park. Never mind. On a side note...has Screamscape ever been correct in its predictions? At any time?
  24. Is that what they did when they built Diamondback?
  25. Maybe they saw a Banshee. Or a Bigfoot. Or a pterosaur. I don't believe it's that cut and dry. But then again I know nothing of constructing roller coasters. But why would they worry about planting grass seed, just to have construction equipment trudging all over it and ruining what they'd just planted?
