  1. add to the fact that the music when Scooby was the Haunted house was verrrrry close to the Tales From the Crypt music..there have been lawsuits over that type of infringement as well..i believe they still play the Indiana Jones Theme in the AE station or were last wknd when I went, so perhaps CF got that thrown in with the Nick license.
  2. I often wondered Terpy, if your line of work contributed to your tatoos...I don't care that people have them..it's your right. I may have to ask you offline, since I've been aproached on more than one occasion to get into your line of worek and have respectfully declined both times
  3. Or "Hotel California" always sets a good theme when you're talking about a place you can never leave! as for the signs, I saw them this past Saturday, but can't recall where..I'll be going again next wknd, so I'll make a mental note of where they are.
  4. well AB needs to make some nickels now wherever they can..renting out thr Clydesdales seems to make sense, since I doubt very many people know their association with AB..they should give pony rides while they're at it!
  5. I miss the Two For Tuesdays and Walk on Weekends the most (query why the two for tuesday signs are STILL up at some rides..is it that hard to get them off?!) Chalk it up to another of CF's now infamous, "We'll get around to it eventually" projects I guess.
  6. There are number of inexpensive motels about 1 exit south of the park, in an area called Fields Ertel. just go on orbitz or expedia and search around. Many, if not all of them offer AAA discounts if you're a member. There are also a couple of places about 1 exit north of the park off of 71. The two hotels closest to the park--KI Inn and Great Wolf Lodge, will cost more than you're willing to spend.

    New Coaster?

The coaster wars, in the sense of build it bigger, are pretty much over. It was proved that big giant coasters didnt necessarily translate into an uptick in revenue. The trend now is to build more innovative, but slightly less bigger coasters like Maverick, Manta and Diamondback. I would venture to say that while a lot of people on this site love TTD, its only about a 30 second ride. Diamondback, while not nearly as tall, provides many more thrills, IMO.
  8. Well, Saturdays aren't bad for the first half of the day anyway. If I were you, I'd hit the low capacity coasters first--Firehawk, Invertigo and Son of Beast to a lesser extent. Runaway raptor isnt bad, but it is also low capacity and is in nick land. Diamondback moves people through pretty quickly, so you shouldn't have more than a 30 min wait even during the busiest part of the day. If you want to cool off, whitewater canyon, wild thornberrys and congo falls are the water rides, along with a small water element in nick land. Of course, there's also the waterpark too, if you have time. It is included with park admission. Most of the flat rides will only have a 2-3 cycle wait, except maybe Delirium, but even with a fairly full que, it shouldnt be more than about 6 cycles since the ride seats 50. All of the other coasters have lines that move quickly. Whatever you do, don't miss Diamondback--it's the newest coaster and in my mind, the best one in the park. If you like shows, KI has a lot of great shows..an ice show, an 80s music show and a country music show to name a few. Fireworks are at 10 PM as the park closes and if you're in line for a ride at 10 PM when the fireworks begin, you will be allowed to ride. Have fun!
  9. It amazed me that the park even offered helo rides..and I recall watching many flights come and go when it was operating. They had a 30 min flight that took you around the park or a 60 min flight that took you to downtown cincy and back..I never understood why someone would give up an hour and about 40 bucks as I recall to fly over an area they just came from! aside from the unique experience it offered, I'm sure the overhead on the copter had to negate any profit made by the park.
  10. I second Potbelly..good sandwhiches indeed. I would think, though that while traffic is guranteed, it is only that way for 6 months out of the year, so these chains take them into account when making such deals. I'd be anxious to know how Graeters is doing at the park. They are already considered a high end ice cream before coming into the park. The few times I've been in there, the prices are slightly higher than those charged in the parlors.
  11. I recall during my last visit to the park during RWW that they had signs advertising 'Nights of Fire' for July 4 wknd, so while the details prob will be announced in teh next couple of weeks, I think it is general knowledge that an extended fireworks display can be expected that wknd.
  12. I remember going to the MK in about 1977 when I was 4 years old. I can tell you that we stayed in the Contemporary, which, at opening, was one of only 3 hotels on property (polynesian and Fort Wilderness being the others). The area around DW was mostly sleepy little streets with not much around. There was no reason to go off disney property. Universal and sea world wouldnt come along until years later. Roy Disney (Walt's brother, since deceased, not to be confused with the other Roy Disney, Walt's grandson, who is a dissdent shareholder today) opened the park.
  13. Think about what you have written. The neighbors already have enough conniptions about the fireworks now. Think what would happen if they were at midnight. The fireworks will be at 10....not midnight. That would be the last thing the park needs...intentionally and knowingly disturbing the neighbors' peace. Ah but Terpy, you bring up the age-old attractive nuisance question of law, in which you and I are both well-versed. If people move near an airport, pig farm, drive in movie theatre, etc. and then complain about noise, etc. who is in the right? Near where I live is a 50 yr old gravel plant. Back when it first was there it was in the middle of nowwhere. Lo and behold, the city grew up around it with fancy strip malls, high end restaurants, luxury car dealers and the like. Now the neighbors want the plant gone, calling it a disturbance. They went to court. The courts basically say you can't complain if you move near these places because they were there first. When KI first opened, there was nothing for miles around. Now, I can look around any lift hill at the park and see homes. I would think if the park wants to hold fireworks at midnight, so be it. Now, if Mason has a noise ordinance, that's different. There is a seasonal outdoor ampitheatre near me (like riverbend) where the curfew is 11 on weekdays and 11:30 on weekends, based on city ordinance.
  14. From a historical standpoint, my vote goes to Opening Day of Disneyland in 1955..I'd love to chat with Walt Disney and listen to all of his ideas that would eventually bear fruit! A close second would be going back to the late 70s when my Dad would take my brother and I on a whim to KI to ride all the then-awesome HB rides!
  15. We already work 50+ hours a week and I can guarantee that no one is going to like this change. Well, IMO a summer job is one where you earn as much money as you can as quickly as you can. At Disney, I always relished when the park was open till 12 and sometimes 1 when I was scheduled to work, because: 1. More hours=more money 2. Lines by the last hour were non-extant 3. I enjoyed seeing the park at night During RWW the night ert for DB was really cool, since it was the only ride open in the park..the last hour was esp cool, since there were only a small handful of us left riding in the entire park and, as a guest anyway, I enjoyed the stillness of the park. There are still those who would gladly work your job ina heartbeat, so I too would caution what you post here.
  16. Towards the end of Eisner's time at Disney, he instituted a fruit, not fries directive throughout the parks. In essence, the various eateries across the parks pushed the fruit equally as hard as the fries, esp when it came to kids meals. Since everyone copies off of a good idea, this is why you see every fast food place adveritisng apple or orange slices along with fries. There is no reason KI can't offer more healthy options inside the park, like the subway in Coney Mall (though if you add enough condiments, the healthy aspect goes away).
  17. i'm partial to the potato works in rivertown with cheese whiz..errr, I mean sauce! i think they only have 1 size now which is too much for me! a close runner up would be funnel cakes!! or anything at the most un-PC food stand teh park ever had--It's Fried!!!!
  18. I'd venture to say that the WOW perk going away had more to do with the fact that ERT was added for DB and Beast this year than park guests getting upset, esp since both are Gold/Plat pass perks only. I'm sure Disney has had more than its fair share of grumpy (pardon the pun) who didn't know about the FP system, then got angry when they saw people out of nowwhere getting in front of them..which is why for FP rides, Disney installed special FP lines, which eventually merge with the main que. I liked WOW but I have to admit the ride selection was the same every year--SDATHC, Wild Thornberrys, Beast, BLSC and either Delirium or DT..they could have rotated the rides to keep things interesting.
  19. Cleaning gum has got to be by far one of the cheaper maintenance things the park can do. Just provide a good strong solvent, which is relatively cheap and get a couple of maintenance guys to clean it off. Little things like that go a long way towards helping the park..things like making sure the figures at the end of AE move all the time..things like replacing burnt out bulbs on rides so they don't look trashy at night....I know it sounds nitpicky but as Terpy has mentioned, if the park takes pride in itself, the guests will hopefully follow.
  20. While Sundays are generally less crowded, it's been my experience that the first half of the day on Saturday isn't bad, if you get there at open. I mostly only go on Saturdays as that is what my sch will allow. On hot summer days, expect to see the crowds arrive by the lunch hour. The only real lines the first few hrs the park is open are at those rides with low capacity--FH, Invertigo, Delirium, even sob to a lesser extent. Also, the last couple of hours are pretty good as well. Don't forget that with BB now open, that siphons some folks away from the coaster side of the park, even on busy days.
  21. old Teva sandals I own with heel strap or newer Ecco sandals also with heel strap...but mostly Tevas.
  22. well if it was burning, there's plenty of water around to put it out! I hate it when people throw their lit cigs all over the park, rather than put them in an ash tray somewhere. During a dry spell that surely will be coming this summer, things like that could set off a brush fire..on a lighter note, was the bush saying to let my people go....ride coolangata racer!
  23. Well, I actually worked in the MK right across from Pecos Bill at the Bear Jamboree, so I remember the pricing. I'm sure they've scaled back prices since then. As to Terpy's post--you can get 5 star cuisine at WDW--Victoria and Albert's, to name one. My point was that theme park food, whether at KI or anywhere else, shouldn't be expected to provide you with lasting memories..just to povide a decent, problem-free meal so you can ejoy the rest of your day.
  24. I for one am sick of the excuse that because the park built DB, they can ignore the rest of the park. Kat and I have had conversations where we talk about the fact that it seems to be the prevailing theory this everything else is secondary to DB this season. Ive been a gold passholder for years and I've never once in all my years of going seen the park attempt to clean The Racer brake shed. They could easily have done it last year while retracking the ride. As mentioned earlier, some industrial solvents, a little elbow greese and a coat or 2 of white paint would go a long way towards freshening up the end of the ride and maing it a more pleasant experience for everyone.
  25. Good point Kat. I know a lot of universities work in this fashion. At my alma matter, IU, the marching band is called the marching hundred (yet has like 225 members..go fig!) and the pep band that performs at basketball games (about 25) is culled from the ranks of the marching band. On alumni day each year, all past band members are invited to perform with the band at halftime of the football game, where they play the band's signature number 'sing sing sing'. Two of my fraternity brothers were in both the marching band and pep band, so I learned more about the band than your average student.
