  1. First of all, a Super Saturator is manufactured by Setpoint, and is not the same thing as Master Blaster. A Super Saturator is a roller coaster with four person cars that hang below the track. The ride is loaded with water effects including a bucket that the riders control to soak people on the ground. Currently, there is one at Paramount`s Carowinds and one at Hersheypark. I`m some what surprised that there aren`t more of these rides at other parks yet. That power station behind the children`s area is not a power station. I believe that that is a new pumping/filtration building for the water park. Any one else know what the function of this building is?
  2. Well, this is just my opinion. But as an employee who knows the park`s rules with regards to line jumping, you should have known better. I know you didn`t but your friends did. What you should have done is moved back in line to be with them. That way, nobody is accused of line jumping.
  3. Dxrunner, as an employ at the park, you should know that line jumping is not a sporting event at PKI. Now I know the people behind you were smoking, but it appears to me that the situation got out of hand because you let your friends cut in line. I would be mad too if I were those guys and people just cut in front of me. I don`t think it is setting a good example when a park employ in the rides department lets his friends cut in line. Now, I also can`t stand smoking in line. I feel that people should be able to wait in line without the need for a cigarette.
  4. Yes, i believe that Flight of Fear`s On ride Photo returned last season. However, last season was also the season that they removed the on ride photo from Face Off I believe.
  5. The reason the park gives all the BAFFD in one day is so that there will be long lines. They do this so that the people that got in free won`t be able to ride and do everything they want to. As a result, they will pay to visit again, either buying a one day ticket or purchasing a season pass.
  6. I don`t think that Spongebob or the 3D glasses are going to be going anywhere soon.
  7. Thebeastman, you as a new member, you need to make sure your posts and topics make sense and have proper punctuation. I`m not a mod, but I thought I`d give you a heads up. Anyway, about your question. The Beast contains 650,000 board feet of lumber. In other words, if you lined up all the wood in The Beast end to end, it would stretch 650,000 feet, which is about 123 miles.
  8. I think that PKI gets some of its water from the city of Cincinnati`s Water Works Division. I know that a while back this was in the news that they might not be able to get the necessary water from Water Works, however, they did get the extra water. Now, the park may use some City of Mason water, but I know they also use Water Works water. Also, I know that they have to treat all the water, but the water on WWC does not APPEAR that it is treated simply because it is murky, dirty water.
  9. A new travel guide for families was released on Tuesday by Zagat survey. PKI ranked fourth in the category "top-rated by child appeal." Ahead of the park was Magic House in St. Louis, followed by Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom in Florida. Additionally, Kings Island was ranked the second best amusement park. Cedar Point was ranked the best amusement park. For the full article, which also includes how other Cincinnati area attractions ranked, click here.
  10. No, it wouldn`t. It is just kind of gross to get wet with muddy water and then walk around the rest of the day with clothes that have been drenched in stinky water. Although when the temperatures are as high as they were this past weekend, people are certainly more than willing to ride WWC dirty water or not.
  11. Wow, never knew that. I guess it is just the location in which they store the water. On Thornberrys they store the water in a concret lined pool. For White Water Canyon, they store it in a man made lake, which makes the water muddy, and hence appear murky and dirty.
  12. Yeah, I seem to remember hearing that some of WWC`s water comes from the parking lot. I guess it makes sense that they have to treat the water. It just doesn`t look like they treat it because it is dirty with all the mud from when they store it in the lake when the pumps are not turned on.
  13. That change took place back in 2002 when they redid all the skid brakes on The Beast. It now has magnetic and trim brakes. As far as I know, the driver does not control where the train stops in the station. I believe the comuter does all that. Also, if the train stops late, I don`t think they have to unlock everyone`s bars manually. Last time I rode The Beast, the train stopped about two or three feet past where it was supposed to. The crew did not have to unlock anyones bar with the pins.
  14. Sheesh. Its not like the topic title says only "New Construction." It is quite evident by the title of this thread that it deals with the construction of the new sign to replace the one that was lost to a storm last September. It will be interesting to see the design of the new sign. I for one am looking forward to once again visiting the park and seeing the sign. Its just not the same pulling into the parking lot without the sign there.
  15. That is very interesting. It will be interesting to see what this new program involves and how it works out. I was wandering why the park would be open until midnight on some Friday nights in June.
  16. Yeah, Eiffel Tower did get new railings and concrete a couple years ago. I don`t know if the railings came from the old Flight Commander queue or not.
  17. The reasoning behind the shorter seatbelts is that the bar will be closer to the guests waist, so that it will be harder to slip out. I think that they should not have to rely on the seatbelts either, but should instead redesign the restraints so that they can accomodate guests with larger proportions.
  18. Yes, but all of those rides do not have individual locking lapbars like the Intamin coasters. Apparantly, the Intamin T-bar lapbars have had some issues, and the shorter seat belt size is an attempt by Intamin to fix the issues without installing new lapbars on all the trains.
  19. The one complaint that I had, is in regards to the concrete. I do like how they broke up the sea of concrete with planters. However, it is still a long walk from the wave pool to the older side. The concrete is still quite hot. I know that Jeff had mentioned some sort of treatment was supposed to be placed on the concrete, but obviously it was never put down. I think if they were to put the stuff down on the concrete that they put down by the water fountain that says Boomerang Bay it might make the concrete more bareable. I know Jeff did mention on the tour in January that if they had time they were going to put a treatment on the concrete, so maybe they ran out of time.
  20. The ride lingered at the park after the accident. Modifications were made to the restraints, which were deemed to be improperly designed. I believe the ride was finally removed at the end of the 1994 or 1995 season due to low ridership. Since the removal of Flight Commander, that plot of land has remained empty of a free attraction. In 1996, a sign popped up saying a new drop ride would appear in 1997, but that plan was later changed to the water park. More recently, that plot of land was home to the Eurobungee upcharge attraction, which did not return to the park this season.
  21. I would assume that it would be a new film. Does the park send back the films after they are done viewing them, or do they store them somewhere for future use? If they send them back, do they send them to Iwerks?
  22. I would assumet that it was deserted. I`m assuming some of the flat rides were closed due to staffing issues. Were you at the park on Easter and was it less crowded or the same as on Easter this year?
  23. NASCAR has gained a lot of popularity since DoT left the Action Theater at the end of the 1997 season. It is hard to believe that 1997 was seven years ago. I remember rding DoT, but I didn`t ride it a lot and enjoyed it. It was in the theater before I had a season pass, so the days I went to the park, DoT wasn`t exactly high on my list of must rides.
  24. Yeah, the paint on Face Off is looking a little bad, especially where there are large rust marks. Drop Zone isn`t that bad, at least not in my opinion. How crowded was the park today, on the first Monday of daily operation?
  25. Well, there is always the less crowded, less thrilling Coney Island. Although the pay there sucks when compared to PKI. If PKI never existed, then nobody would miss it. However, if it closed suddenly and never reopened, I would miss it for years to come. I have been going to the park since I was six months old, so I have many, many memories at the park, and am making new ones each time I go.
