IMO, it is the worst show they have had in the Paramount Theater in the past four years!

After 4 visits to the park this season, Son of Beast is the only major roller coaster that I have not riden yet this season. I don`t know why either. I was going to ride it during a gold pass ert session the other week, but it was waking up a little late, so I passed on it.

No, but do they paint landmark attractions different colors? Generally not. Look at the Golden Gate Bridge. It has remained the same color since it was built.

Whats the scoop on how rough the beast is?
coasterrz replied to DaBeastIsOnFire's topic in Coming Attractions
As with any ride, the smoothness depends on the time you ride, the weather conditions and where you sit. -
I also saw Camden park on my way home from Myrtle Beach. It is my understanding that Camden park had intended to renovate Thunderbolt, but it did not have the financial backing to fix it up. Instead, they have neglected to care for it. I believe that the ride is almost to the point where it is almost impossible to fix, without having all new steel track and supports made for the ride. I don`t forsee Camden being able to spend the money to do this. As a result, I think that Thunderbolt Express, aka Screamin Demon has seen its last riders.

I actually never heard the news about the accident this past weekend on the news. It was only when I checked Coasterbuzz on Monday that I found out about the incident. I do find it quite odd that there have been so many incidents on Intamin style rides recently. However, that doesn`t mean I`m going to stop riding Intamin rides. I might think twice before stepping on an Intamin ride with a T-bar though. Obviously, there might be some sort of problem with the Intamin T-bar. I would like to know what exactly caused the accident at SFNE.

Yeah, Shake Rattle and Roll is a high capacity ride that never seems to have a line and always has people on it. It is one of the highest capacity flat rides in Coney Mall, and with its neighbor provide some excellent capacity. Now if only the Eagles had as high of a capacity as SRR, then there could be a lot more snapping.

I wouoldn`t loose Drop Zone. It is the one ride that still frightens me every time I ride it when I get to the top. I`ve riden it dozens and dozens of times, but I still get sweaty hands when we get to the top. Perhaps it is because you are so high above the concrete below. I just find that ride to be one that hasn`t lost any of its thrill factor, regardless of how many times I`ve riden it.

What's the funniest thing you've ever seen at Pki?
coasterrz replied to Columbus coasternut's topic in Kings Island
I know that he probably did not throw a pop can off the tower. That is one reason why I believe they used to (I don`t recall them doing this the last time I rode) tell all riders to put their hands up, palms out when the operators check their bars so that they can check to make sure they don`t have any objects to throw off of the ride on the way up or down. -
How many celebrities have ridden PKI's rides?
coasterrz replied to DeliriumDreamer's topic in Kings Island
I know Barry Larkin of the Cincinnati Reds has taken many kids with him to KI as part of some charity he is involved with. Additionally, Montel Williams is a huge fan of PKI. He was even on hand when the park announced the plans for Son of Beast almost five years ago. I`m sure there have been many celebrities that have visited the park and the general public and us alike never knew about it. -

Actually, not only would you be kicked out of the park for throwing objects off of Drop Zone, but according to Ohio Law, you could be arrested and charged with a misdameanor for throwing objects off of any ride. Part of the Ohio Revised Code dealing with rider safe conduct. At Coney last year, we fished a radio out of Lake Como with a net when we were looking for glasses that someone dropped into the lake. We never found the glasses but we did find a radio, which I believe still worked, despite being submerged in four feet of muddy, gasoline filled stinky water. -
They filmed this episode to face off against the Friends finally. While the timing in relation to the SFNE accident is not ideal, I do not believe that CBS will change episodes for Thursday.

I don`t quite understand why the park would only paint the observation platforms and the bottom third of the tower. Even if they were painted the same color, you would be able to tell what sections weren`t painted because of the faded paint that wasn`t repainted. However, at least they are repainting the tower, and giving it some much needed TLC.
-
Is there a reason they are only going to paint the bottom third and the two platforms? Or are they going to save the remaining portion for the offseason? I`m glad the tower is finally getting at least a partial fresh coat of paint.

When Demon was around, were there any elevators for disabled guests, or was this ride around before the Americans with Disabilities Act?

I don`t know if The Beastie has gone down in popularity. The ride has been busy the times I`ve seen it this year. By Days of Thunder, do you mean the go karts, or the movie that is going to be shown in side B of the Action Theater. If you mean the movie, I think that it will recieve an increase in popularity, since the ride hasn`t been at the park in six years. I believe that Disney re-introduces its movies to the stores every six or seven years to capitalize on the new generations of kids. I think that Paramount Parks are trying to do something similar. Also, the DoT movie is a great tie-in to their new emphasis on movies.

I highly doubt that area would recieve a flying super saturator. In part because I don`t think that plot of land is that large. Secondly, I don`t think they would put two similar types of roller coasters next to each other. Based on my visits in the past couple of years, I don`t think the water maze is that extremly popular. That is the only "ride" left from the original Nickelodeon Splat City.

They can only hold one side so long before they have to send it on its way without racing. I`m sure if you were sitting in the tunnel waiting for the other train to race, you wouldn`t want the crew to wait ten minutes, just so they could race the trains of The Racer. At least they race most of the time. Even when they race, the trim brakes on the turn around (at least were) set differently, so by the time the trains make their final sprint back into the tunnel when they are racing, they are no longer close to each other.
-
Originally, I believe it was supposed to run 4 trains. But from what i understand, they never actually had four trains on the track operating at one time. Back when they had OTSRs I believe the park ran three trains. This was back when the midcourse brake was on. When the park retrofitted the trains, they only retrofitted two, since they achieve significant capacity with two. One thing I have always wandered is why the clones of FoF at Six Flags parks run 6 cars a train (24 people) as oppossed to the 5 at PKI and PKD (20 people). Incidentally, I believe there are some shells from a FoF train over in the graveyard beside Timberwolf, behind the queue for Drop Zone.

I`m assuming that screeching noise you are refering to is the side friction wheels. In short, it is the side friction wheels engaging the track on the side of the rails, in order to keep the train from sliding off of the track. Now, they might have been louder than normal if there was a lack of oil in that area of track. i do believe that PKI`s wooden coaster tracks are greased/oiled by hand. I remember during the Son of Beast Discovery Channerl photo shoot, that a maintenance work was greasing the turn from the transfer track into the station. Some wooden roller coasters has self-oiling trains. However, I don`t believe the ones at PKI are those types. Someone who works at the park might know more than I do on this subject though.
-
I do believe that you are refering to the original CSI. CSI: Miami is on Monday nights at ten. CSI, on Thursday will in fact feature a roller coaster accident. It is my understanding that they had trouble finding a park willing to let them crash a roller coaster, because of fear of negative publicity from the show.

I must say I like Skyline more than LaRosa`s. But LaRosa`s does have good meatballs! Can`t beat their unlimited spagetti and meatballs on Mondays and Tuesdays. I know they used to have all you can eat spagetti on those days (two years ago), but I haven`t been there lately to know if they still do.

The most I`ve been to PKI in a season is 34, in 2001. However, the last two season I have been around the 25-30 mark. It is harder to visit the park so much when I work at another Amusement park, and some days, I just don`t feel like going to another amusement park on my days off!

Why take out any ride? If the park removes a ride, then they are also reducing the capacity of the park. I understand that low ridership/maintenance are legitamite reasons to remove a ride. However, I don`t think the park is going to remove a major attraction like TG or DZ anytime soon. While I would be sad if we lost `Tiques this season, it isn`t exactly a high capacity ride. However, it is a ride and people that wouid normally ride that ride would be standing in other ride lines if they are removed. So a removal of a ride results in longer lines, although the difference is probably unnoticable. It will be interesting to see if PKI removes any rides this season or not, other than the Flight Team.
