Should PKI bring back the Smurf Ride?
coasterrz replied to TopThrillDragster's topic in Kings Island
Does anyone know if the new Smurf cartoon will in fact be on Nickelodeon or if the new movie will be carried by Paramount? I heard that it was going to be carried by New Line Cinema. The only information I`ve seen on the web points to New Line Cinema and not Paramount. If Paramount/Viacom scored the Smurfs, it could signal their return in some shape or form to the park at some point in time. -
True, I do believe he said something about that. I think though, he referred to the fact that PKI`s will be the only themed Giant Top Spin to be themed to TR:TR

There are Skyline`s in Dayton. As a matter of fact, there are a couple down in Florida, and I believe they are opening one in Pittsburgh.

Back in July of 2000, for the paw print pass holder ert on SoB, they had the ride open to paw print pass holders from 9-11. I rode it nine times in about two hours, however, I did have to walk around and get back in line. Not to mention that I had ridden it two times the day before and two times the day after with relatives from Arizona. By the end of the 14 rides in three days, I had battle wounds on my thighs from battling the son of The Beast, LOL!

I had the best 3-way from Skyline I ever had back in 2001 I believe. The person there asked if I wanted extra chili. I said "sure!" Anyway, after piling on the noodles, then the chili and cheese, she poured another layer of chili on and topped it off with another layer of cheese. She did this, free of charge! That is probably one of the few times I actually got my money`s worth for eating at PKI. She also did it to the two others who were eating with me!

Yep, that`s correct. If you buy your tickets online they discount them. Normally, tickets are $42.99 per person per day, for a cost of $86.98, which is more than the $75 season pass price.

I`m a devoted Skyline chili fan. I`m mad that UC opened the new student center witha Gold Star instead of Skyline, but oh well. I also like LaRosa`s sauce, and their meatballs are pretty tasty as well.

Here is a link to a picture of the Salt Water Circus back in 1972. The picture doesn`t show much, other than the roof and two bottle nose dolphins. The building no longer resides at PKI. It was located next to the International Showplace, next to Paradise Island treats. Currently, the old site is a large grassy area and a rather deserted path.

I have one thing to add. If we are congratulating PKIU, lets at least try to spell congratulate correctly. Beyond that, it is nice to say keep up the good work on the site!

I know the park used to have a two day pass. However, it might be cheaper to buy a season pass, even if you are only visiting for two days. Plus, if you get a season pass to PKI you might be able to plan a visit to one of the other Paramount Parks and get in free with your pass there as well. The park`s website does not have a two day, general admission ticket available. I`m sure you could call the park and find out the pricing of the various options. The park`s information line number is 513-754-5700

Don`t you already know what BB has in store for 2004?
-
Nope, not true. The Beach has no relationship with PKI, other than the fact that they are both located in Mason. The Beach is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Also, the slide thing is not true.

Happy Birthday! Keep up the great work with the website!

Nicely stated Sob/Gun Steve-O! Yes, I knew what he meant, but taken literally, that is what he typed, although I understood what it meant. -
The sky ride at Kings Island jammed in 1977 when high winds rolled through the area. The ride was so high off the ground that firetrucks could not reach the stranded passengers. The ride made national news because of that. The ride was ultimately removed because of low ridership and lack of spare parts. Today, Animation Station in HB remains as one of the old stations.

Are you sure they were closed in 1997? Was that at the end or the beginning? I seem to remember riding the south side of the Antique Cars in the fall of 1997.

The top of the funnel is there because the manufacturer, Proslide Technology of Canda thought that it was necessary in case a raft went higher than halfway. Originally, when Holiday World announced Zonga, it was only going to be half of a circle, but then Proslide changed their mind and made it a complete circle/funnel to be on the safe side. I am quite excited to go to Boomerang Bay at least once this season. I haven`t been to the water park in a couple seasons, despite having a season pass since 1998. When it boils down to it, I would much rather have the original park then the water park. I think BB complements Kings Island well, and will hopefully keep people entertained and out of the main park in June and July.

Should PKI bring back the Smurf Ride?
coasterrz replied to TopThrillDragster's topic in Kings Island
I remember riding the smurf ride. Mostly I remember the station, which is now the station for TopCat`s Taxi Jam. I also remember the part inside the ride in which the boats went up on the conveyor belt and out of the water. The only other thing I remember about the smurf ride was the curtain at the end that would raise up and down between boats at the end to keep out the daylight from the inside. -
Actually, I seem to remember that PKI was recently, within the past couple of years rated one of the top three amusement parks as far as midway games go. Was that the Golden Ticket awards or another award, I can`t remember now. PKI makes a ton of money off of games. I heard on one website, that they earn about $2 million off of games a season. However, that number seems a little low to me, but regardless, they make a ton of money off of the games.

Thanks Shaggy. I knew that it closed in the late `90s but wasn`t exactly sure when it closed.

CaviMan2, I think if the park tried to fill all their ride positions with ONLY 18 YEAR OLDS, then they would have a problem. However, there would be people older than 18 that would work in rides. Yes, they would have a smaller pool of people to draw from, but Disney and Cedar Point seem to manage just fine. -
Yeah, we can`t wish away this season. It hasn`t really even begun yet! Heck this year`s new addition isn`t even open yet, and people are already talking about next year`s new ride. So many times these days, people are wishing their lives away waiting for this or for that. I`m sure if the park wanted to keep the Antique Cars, and build a coaster on that plot of land, that they could find a way to make it happen!

Here is an interesting question: how many ride operators between 16 and 18 have been injured? Furthermore, how many of those injured were at permanent amusement parks? Finally, how many of those injuries were related to corporatlly owned parks? I would venture to say that a good portion of the injuries/deaths are related to traveling fairs/smaller amusement parks.
