Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
silver2005 replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
You are telling people "dream on" with their predictions. If somebody doesn't believe those are the blueprints then that's their prerogative. I personally feel they are legit, but KI hasn't confirmed it so you have no right to berate others predictions IMO. TThe lift depicted in the blueprints is not long enough to accommodate a 180+ ft lift (look at Banshee's and Diamondback's for comparison). The lines (you know, all those straight lines, which would maybe be barrel rolls and stalls and would still have curved transitions because RMC heartlines their rolls and GCI would follow suit, ) in the blueprints and the lack of lateral supports don't suggest more than a few inversions (no more than 1) when GavPenn was predicting 7-8 in previous posts. That's not disagreeing based on emotion and what I want. That's based on logic. -

....and you tell other people to calm down? I respect your opinion, but it's coming off as "holier than thou". You know nothing more than anybody else and just because some people don't agree with your CGI prediction( I personally have no opinion on coaster type), you don't have to take it personally. If people want to make predictions or even speculate on coaster types that aren't likely to happen, I am happy to read them because NOBODY KNOWS at this point. Maybe not by the "supposed" blueprints, but nobody from KI has confirmed those so everything is still possible. Find 1 quote I wrote where I berate someone for disagreeing with me. You can sift through my posts in my profile page. -

I know I'll be getting some criticism for this, it might even be deleted or something (I may do it myself), but I don't care. I need to vent. This is going to be my last post in this thread. The lack of nuance, intelligent conversation, and lack of ability to see things through reality and not through rose colored glasses is just becoming too much. I've had it. Its not fun anymore to figure this ride out in this thread. Its become a farce concerning the dialogue. I and many others have tried to contribute in positive ways only to get bogged down by nonsensical discussion and not being respectful of others' opinions (this whole RMC vs GCI discussion especially, its the new Intamin vs B&M and not in a good way). Magenta Lizard- you've done an incredible job covering this and seeking out clues and showing the progress. I can truly appreciate that as I did a similar venture covering Banshee's construction for the site I used to belong to. I know how much time and effort it takes and you've done a wonderful job. This site needs to do better in quality control, especially for such a first hand source of KI information that people come to use. You know all that buzz Banshee got around here and the likely buzz this project is now creating? Yeah, all those people have to wallow through this crap to get to it. That's a disservice to your audience, not just coaster fans, but the general public. silver2005, sitting back, listening to jazz, and sitting it out until the announcement. -

Ladies and gentlemen, nuance has been thrown out the window. -

Are we just abandoning the blueprints and the size of the construction site and just making up stats? Those lateral supports are gonna support a hyper sized woodie or hybrid that'll be super steep? Where are the lateral supports for all these inversions you guys are speculating on? What kind of inversions? Dream on. Also, I thought GavPenn had all the answers to the layout and such. Why is he 'guessing'? Also, some of you need to seriously calm down. -

As long as they don't use the same wood supplier as RCCA did for SOB, I think we'll be good. -
@MDMC01- Depending on which entrance you go in, you may be driving around the Expo Center complex for quite a bit.

^I love having your former band director directing the UCCB.
-
^Where have you met him? I know him from his time assisting the brass section for a few years in the UC undergrad band.

So Matt Anklan, a trumpet player in the Off The Charts band, just got accepted into the Cincinnati Pops.

These teasers look too good for it to be a Big Foot theme. Also, if this is a wood coaster, I think the record will be for most wooden coaster track in a park. They're only around 1,000 ft and change behind SFGAm. -

^That argument has been around since before CP announced Millennium Force. Sure hasn't stopped them yet. Also, why does it matter so much which park is the 'crown jewel'? Each park does its own thing to keep themselves successful. What happens at one park in the chain doesn't matter diddly squat to the rest of them. -

How can you ascertain so much about the supports when they haven't even started on the footings for the actual ride yet? Also, what prevents GCI from building like that? Coaster designers change and evolve all the time. Also, what evidence do you have to go 100% for RMC that has nothing to do with how you view them vs GCI? Also, why, in detail, is GCI a step back? It seems you have more against them than just not liking their rides since you and Beast Gal are going out of your way to dismiss them (funny how you're the only 2 to have such a drastic negative opinion of them). Last I checked, a lot of parks, including a few Cedar Fair parks (you know, the chain KI is a part of), still go to them for new coasters. And with Viper, they've proven they can build comparable in size to RMC's. Even giving you the benefit of the doubt of a RMC, 7-8 inversion? Seriously? Not only because the track layout barely suggests more than 3 (maybe), but after we just got a 7 inversion coaster? I'm not saying it won't be an RMC, but I don't think there is such conclusive evidence of either them or GCI yet. -
Why Hasn't Anybody Built A Wooden Hypercoaster Yet?
silver2005 replied to presto123's topic in Kings Island
I'm a subscriber to the John Allen line of thought that traditional wooden coasters shouldn't go above 125-135 ft or so unless accompanied by some terrain or tunnels to extend drops, or smaller hills after the big hill to burn momentum and take stress off of the taller elements. RMC looks like they're not too far from going 200 ft themselves. I imagine if Intamin, if they backed up their products, would go 200 ft seeing as they have the current height record for woodies (Colossos at Heide Park at 196.8 ft). -

Thanks for posting. That guy thinks RMC coaster and record breaking size. Where did you hear they are clearing area east of Diamondback? RMC's current tallest Topper track coaster is Goliath at 165 ft. Unless that's a super steep lift and first drop in the blueprints, I kind of doubt that claim. By the looks of it, I don't see a length record being plausible either.I kind of doubt this. According to Wikipedia SOB footers were only 11 feet in the ground. So you can can make your own judgement. Although this guy seems to have some credibility. But he also seems to just throw things out there sometimes.Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk I'm not going by footings. I'm rebuking his claim for something with record breaking size when the size of the alleged construction site and the blueprints speak to the contrary. I couldn't care less if the footings were 1 ft deep or 1,000 ft deep. -

Hey Beast Gal- quit jumping on every little clue as a RMC confirmation. It's getting old. -

Sorry to break on a tangent, but what reasoning was there for Cedar Fair to even purchase Michigan's Adventure? -
I wonder if they'd explore an option to take out the launch for a lift. It looks like it'd be feasible given the elevation difference from the first major drop and the over banked hill after it. Sure it'd take out the original selling points, but they'd still have a ride there and the layout looks like it'd still be pretty good. That and RMC would probably not get contracted to build a launch coaster for quite a while.

In no particular order Nemesis- Alton Towers Thunderbolt- Kennywood Cyclone- Astroland Revolution, Viper and Ninja- Six Flags Magic Mountain Great American Scream Machine and Mind Bender- SFoG Screaming Eagle and Boss before RMC likely gets their hands on it- SFStL Boulder Dash- Lake Compounce GhostRider- Knott's Berry Farm Steel Force- Dorney Park Any portable Schwarzkopf looping coaster (ex. Olympia Looping Bahn) American Eagle- SFGAm (in case you didn't notice, I'm a big John Allen fan) Shockwave- SFoT Both Giant Dipper coasters in California Excalibur and Wild Thing- Valleyfair -
Just so you guys know, adding in elements to a coaster as dynamic as The Beast isn't like Roller Coaster Tycoon. If you add an element somewhere, you have to modify the track well before and after it to make it run right. It also affects a bunch of other things like momentum and forces through the ride. Let's say you want to make a bigger first drop without adding to the trims. First you have to create a steeper lift to go a higher angle to make it up to that height. You'd also have to create a longer pull out or else you'll create too many positive g's. The turn after the drop would have to become wider in radius and probably banked harder to accommodate the increased speed which would move the 2nd drop further back and it wouldn't line up with the brake shed, etc. etc.

Strata has already been said a couple times. I think the only coasters over 400 feet are Top Thrill types. And an Intamin LSM shuttle coaster.
