We are looking for a new moderator.
silver2005 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
I want to volunteer as I have 6 year moderating experience from the previous site I was active on (granted, it had a much younger member base than here), but I'm just way too busy with work and school right now. -
I wonder how many of the other footings they've poured already. I find it surprising that they are just now pouring the footings for the lift (currently happening on the webcam as I post this). Have they poured footings further back in the layout already? For those keeping track of construction progression, it'll be hard to do so unless you actually visit the park as the camera only shows the lift and the following hill. Also, judging by the area they have to work with, this looks like it'll have a pretty steep first drop. As seen on the camera, the bents just to the right of DB's track looks like its for track that's lower to the ground and as you look left, the bents stack up more and the lateral bracing angles up more. It looks like from that point of view, it'll be right in line with DB's hill going up to the left. I'm guessing the crest will be right at the edge of the tree line, which isn't a lot of space for a 97+ ft drop, thus my guess of a steep drop. If its anything similar to Banshee's first drop, I'll be pretty happy. I'm guessing the animations don't reflect exactly how the shaping of the track will actually be, so I'm expecting a few surprises in how the track actually comes out.

Think we've seen the last of the SIX RMC conversions?
-
I'll admit, I haven't ridden a lot of dedicated air time coasters out there so I could very well be surprised by something. Watching POV's and riding the actual coasters are very different and I love being surprised by something I didn't expect. My views of Thunder Run are a good example of that. I didn't expect a lot going in, but it instantly shot up to being one of my favorite wooden coasters after my first ride. I find that very true of wooden coasters since there are a lot of different factors that go in to how they ride vs steel coasters. I did have the very good fortune of having my first rides on Thunder Run as well as Thunderhead after a good soaking rain where they ran fantastically.

These guys are essentially in charge of SIX- Link
-
I think you guys mean John Duffey. Dan Snyder and Mark Shapiro have been gone a while.
-
I believe SFMM and SFoG have had plans leaked that they're getting Justice League rides (I forget what my source was). Same goes for what I heard of SFGAm possibly getting a S&S Freespin. I'm crossing my fingers hard that RMC doesn't touch Boss.

Deep Water Dive sits approximately where Chang's lift crested, which was at 154 ft.

Cedar Point Shores Water Park

Going off on a tangent here, but in the 2nd concept picture, it shows Mean Streak still around in the background (I see MS's first fan turns, its not Gemini). Mistake or not? -
That picture doesn't look like it has the layout quite to scale. It has the station is out on the midway. I'm pretty sure the entire layout is within the railroad tracks.
-
I think I may like RMC's coasters that are more focused on bigger elements like Goliath or New Texas Giant, but I'm not a fan of how they try to cram so many elements in such short lengths of track much like the layout of Storm Chaser after the 2nd roll. I imagine I wouldn't like Wicked Cyclone, Iron Rattler or Twisted Colossus quite as much, but I'm willing to let the rides speak for themselves if/when I get around to them. I prefer sustained moments of air time over a bunch of little pops and I don't really like being pinned to the lap bar where my thighs take a pounding. Magnum is about as strong as I'll like. Lightning Run kind of has that, but I found it was more consistent through its layout with the forces. Storm Chaser felt like 2 distinct halves which the layout before the roll was much better than after it. GCI's sort of do those pops, but it doesn't feel as jarring like RMC designs things.

August 18th Announcement for Cedar Fair Parks.

Valleyfair getting a Star Flyer might be the best bit of irony this announcement season. -
EPCOT is getting a coaster
silver2005 replied to Colonel_SoB_fan's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
To me, EPCOT is the one Disney park that might do well without a coaster. I don't think it needs one necessarily. -
August 18th Announcement for Cedar Fair Parks.
silver2005 replied to Tr0y's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I've just been going through all the CF parks' Facebook pages, and it kind of looks like they're taking the SIX approach. Some of the hinting the parks are doing don't look like they're matching up. -
August 18th Announcement for Cedar Fair Parks.
silver2005 replied to Tr0y's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I'm just speculating based on the time line they're using for Mean Streak's closure. I'm not entirely sure what they intend to do with it. With so much of the chain announcing at the same time, I'm thinking they're getting the same thing. Winterfest's return kinda sounds plausible, though, having it at CP and Canada's Wonderland doesn't seem too smart. I also wonder if they're leaning to a SIX approach now for announcements. -
August 18th Announcement for Cedar Fair Parks.

I wonder how long a complete re-track of MS to accommodate Millennium Flyers would take. -
Decoding Episode 2.5: BONUS ROUND! Second Announcement!
silver2005 replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Maybe we can have a golden footing for the last one much like the golden spike for the transcontinental railroad. -
How about placing a camera at the top of Diamondback's lift? That might work.

Whose bright idea was it to put National Roller Coaster day in the middle of schools starting up in August?
-
Yeah, I have no problem with that decision.

^Google is your friend. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=ibew+electrical And since you also blamed IBEW for alienating members on what the markers were for- http://www.pipemarker.com/help-apwa.php

^Part of that is having mods that'll do their jobs. Self moderating can only do so much. You gotta draw a line somewhere.
-
^Go look at about every post you've made and agreed to with GavPenn in the recent decoding thread. If you're really that far gone to the point where you're that naive to what I'm talking about, well, I'm tired wasting my time with you.

I respectively disagree with you in saying you can compare lightning rod to storm chaser. Lightning rod hits the ending brakes faster than storm chaser's top speed. I HAVE to get this off my head. You cannot judge a coaster over top speed. I really liked Maverick (or Cowboy Coaster) more than I did Millennium Force. Sure the coasters that go 500 feet at 9billion miles per hour can be fun. But I have ridden many coasters that I liked more that are better than the coasters that go 100 to 200 feet taller and go 25-65 mph faster Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk I agree. My point is ALL rides are a different ride experience. Also judging a ride that a person has NEVER ridden based on riding one ride from the manufacturer that's is a DIFFERENT ride experience is ridiculous. So, by your own words, will you stop judging all the GCI's that you haven't ridden in your effort to bash them all the time? Also, learn basic psychology.
-
@BeastGal- I've been on a lot of fast paced rides, rides that pin you to the lap bar, etc, stuff that mimics LR to an extent and I've been on an RMC. That perspective mixed with watching the POV a lot can help one anticipate how a coaster will flow and act. I don't want to go on a long winded post, but if you know how basic psychology works, you can understand that people can discern things about certain activities without having done them. Its not that hard a concept to understand. No coaster is THAT unique where riding it completely over blows any assumptions about them if one views them without riding them. I never said I know exactly what it would be like, but I have a pretty good idea. This entire conversation is about perception, what one experiences, and the opinions, interpretations, and preconceptions based on those stimuli. Everyone views the world differently. I feel foolish for even trying to explain this to you as every explanation anyone tries to tell you goes right over your head. All you have ever done on these forums is to show how much you don't like GCI and like RMC. That notion in itself is okay because everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but to do so to the detriment of other members is not alright. You have no regard for those who think opposite of your views and you just keep hammering at it. We keep explaining this to you, but you ignore us. Drop the subject and move on. Trust us, we get it. In fact, I challenge you to not make a single post about GCI or RMC, nor any post that could be interpreted as such or being so negative to other members' opinions for a month. Show us you can be different, show us what you actually enjoy about the industry with us, and be a productive member of this site. Also, if you're so into facts, how about calling coasters by their real names (cowboy coaster? really?) and knowing that Holiday World in Indiana doesn't have the coaster Expedition Ge-Force. The ball is in your corner Beast Gal.
