Haunt is Back and Better Than Ever!
gigacoaster2k replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I've slipped and fell outside a gas station (no, NOT the one I work at! ) while walking down the painted ramp while it was pouring down rain. I've also slipped and ALMOST fallen on the painted wooden walkway at Holiday World right before you get to Voyage, and it was pouring rain (I was running.. can you blame me? ). But both times, I was wearing flip flops. So I doubt this situation is one that rests only with Kings Island. -
- When I was walking through Club Blood on Friday night, this scareactor jumps out at me and growls 'YOU GOT ANY ID??" I simply said "no" and kept walking.. his response was "That's OK.. you don't need any.. *checks me out* you're all right!" - Random guest walking past hideous creature on the midway: "You remind me of my mother in law." The scareactor laughed.
-
Well said, my friend. NOTHING I've ridden will EVER beat those pitch black night rides on Voyage.. ..in the rain, ..with lightning bolts flashing in the sky, ..and the train FLYING over the MCBR as if it wasn't even there.

GR did look me up and handed me a one day ticket that said SP FORGOT - Price $0.00. I corrected myself on Python.. thanks. I hate being misinformed or thinking something's something when it is in fact, not! -
I am so glad you had such a great day, David. I knew you would love Voyage!

Yesterday I was wearing a brown Holiday World shirt with a gray thermal under it, and black cargo pants (for you or anyone else who thinks they may have seen me). -

OMIGOSH I'm sorry! I didn't mean to leave the rotag out! Yeah you did scare me a little.. and that's how I like it! Fail to scare the crap out of me in a haunted house.. and there's a slim chance I will be back! -
** DAY ONE: Kings Island ** Tom (Tom76257) and I made plans to go to KI on Friday night since it was the first night of Haunt, and then made plans to go to Coney Island on Saturday. I've never truly experienced Haunt, and many of our friends said they were going, so I was very excited! We got to KI on Friday, and saw Dave, Adam, and some others at the gate. It was sprinkling, and we stood and chatted while we waited for the metal detectors to open. Little did I know what was about to happen, since I've never truly experienced Haunt. At 7 pm, all the gates opened and a stampede of scare actors came POURING out, from the fog, some with chainsaws, some screaming, some winding their way through the metal detectors. Among them were Zach (KI Man) and Dane. It was wild, I loved it! Tom and I made our way to Diamondback. I was in awe of how creepy Diamond looked in the fog.. made me want to ride it even more than usual (if that is even possible!). There was absolutely NO line, so we ran back for a second ride. For our third ride, we met up with Adam (pkiboy) and Jackson (Beast1979).. Tom's 100th ride on DB! (and my 151st.. tee hee) Tom somehow lost his black Maverick shirt in DB's queue. He tried to find it, but never did. I really like this pic. Then we decided it was time for the haunts. Since Rachel (StalkerChick), Alyssa (TrainedBeast), Jared (rotag1299), and Justin (JustinM_17) were all in Urgent Scare, we went for that one first. Jackson doesn't do haunts, so he sat out. The beginning part before the tunnels isn't really scary, just creepy. This chick was kind of just walking around the yard, and would occasionally throw a barrel. She picked up a long metal stick at one point, and started doing tricks with it. It looked more like she was practicing for baton twirler or flag corps instead of trying to be scary. We did see Rachel and Alyssa by the front, though. I don't understand the sound effects. It sounds like you're at a football game with cheering. I did like the part inside the hospital though, that was really creepy and gross.. FANTASTIC! And Justin and Jared scared the crap out of me in the last tunnels! I like how you guys did not go out of character even when you saw us. I give Urgent Scare a 9/10.. they really need to be scarier toward the front and in the yard, but I enjoyed it! We went back toward DB since David (Dvo) had texted me and said he was at DB. The five of us rode DB, and then Adam and Jackson bailed on us, so David, Tom and I headed for a foggy night ride on Drop Tower. There was pretty much zero wait. DT is a great ride at night, and combined with the fog, it was really wicked. I like how the fog swirls around the base of the tower after it drops. Action Zone looks downright evil at night in the Haunt fog.. it was great! So was the music they were playing on the midways.. PLAY THAT MUSIC ALL YEAR PLEASE!! The three of us decided we wanted to do more haunted houses, so off we went to one of my favorites.. Cornstalkers! It was wicked at Cedar Point, and it was wicked at KI too.. TERRIFIC! 10/10, that's all I have to say! Then it was off to Club Blood, another one of my favorites. Another 10/10.. haha the three of us got hit on like crazy going through this one. Definitely not for young eyes, or the faint of heart. CB never fails to impress me or gross me out.. or make my eyes pop out of my head 0=) We then went to Slaughter House. This one was seriously creepy, but it stunk REALLY bad and you couldn't see anything because the fog was so dense. Scareactors had to point us in the right direction. It was weirder than it was scary. I guess it was OK.. I give it a 7/10. David had to leave soon, so the three of us rode DB, and then Tom and I headed to Racer. We got 2 rides in a row without getting off the train because no one was waiting for our seat.. yay for re-rides! I LOVE DOING THAT! Our last ride of the night was DB with my friends Bryan, Danielle, and Ryan from the Detroit and Cleveland areas, then we called it a night and headed home. Count for the day: Diamond - 6 Racer - 2 Drop Tower - 1 Club Blood - 1 Cornstalkers - 1 Urgent Scare - 1 Slaughter House - 1 ** DAY TWO: Coney Island, and a random trip to Kings Island ** We arrived at Coney Island shortly after opening. There were a few KICers that said they would be there, but I wasn't sure who would show up. Our first ride of the day, Tom's 48th coaster and my 47th, Python! I love the gut wrenching drops. A little rough, but not bad! We walked around the park, and ran into Robbie (CoastersRZ), who was working, and helped us decipher the map lol. I was completely amused and delighted by this door that leads to nowhere. We stumbled upon one of my favorite spinny rides anywhere.. Trabant! We decided to head for the bumper boats since that sounded interesting. My boat stunk badly and refused to go in reverse.. it chose to go in circles instead lol. That was fun, though! I saw they had a swinging ship (River Runner), so we rode that in the very back seat. I love those rides! My phone rang while we were on it. I checked it after the ride, and it was Ryan (BoddaH1994). He met up with us, and the three of us hit Python first. Then we headed over to Flying Bobs, and the three of us were goofing off on it the whole time. A little shaky, but that thing has some speed! w00t! We headed to the bumper cars, where we were all epic fail at trying to hit each other. It was hilarious. Kat (violakat03) was at Six Flags Great Adventure that day, and sent me a pic of El Toro. I yelled a few jealous expletives, and went to jokingly send her an evil text message back. Ryan started laughing, grabbed me and said "No, send her a picture of THAT!" and pointed at this. The next several minutes were spent wondering how the three of us would get to ride it that day (it was closed). Then it was off to the carousel, since I knew Kat would give me crap if I didn't! I am a happy Angie on the carousel. Wake up, Tom! Ryan is having too much fun, haha. We were walking around the park, and saw Scream Machine running. Here's our conversation when we saw it. Ryan: "That looks pretty intense." Me: "I kind of want to ride it." Tom: "Me too." So we rode that. Ryan got a kick out of it and announced that he could ride that thing all day. It was a fun ride! We had all been debating about the Rock-O-Planes, but said screw it and got on. Our first ride felt more like a Ferris wheel, and we saw Ryan upside down in his cage a few times. He instructed us on how to make the cages flip.. and our second ride was wicked awesome! I got a few 360 flips out of the cage Tom and I were in! Then we rode the Ferris wheel.. squashing the 3 of us into 1 seat was quite amusing. Ryan kept trying to scare me by acting like he was going to tip the seat, and I smacked him a few times lol. Then for some reason we kept walking toward the Tilt A Whirl. The two guys had been trying to convince me all day that it wasn't a real Tilt A Whirl, so I finally gave in. I stalled at the entrance, and Tom was all sweet and "You don't have to if you don't want to." Ryan was "NO. YOU ARE RIDING THIS." lol. So I got on, and both times it was mostly tilt and hardly any whirl. We headed back to Scream Machine. It had rained, and I was yanking wet branches down and getting the guys wet. I accidentally smacked Tom in the face with a branch. Then on Scream Machine, I went to pretend like I was going to smack Ryan in the face, and I actually did smack him lol. I felt bad for abusing the guys haha.. sorry! Our last ride of the day at Coney was Python. I bought a bag of kettle corn, I couldn't resist.. I LOVE kettle corn! Ryan had said he was going to KI that night, so we agreed that was the plan. I really like the landscaping and scenery at Coney. It's a beautiful little park.. I enjoyed my day there. Ride count: Python - 3 Scream Machine - 2 Rock-O-Planes - 2 Tilt A Whirl - 2 Trabant - 1 Bumper Cars - 1 Bumper Boats - 1 Ferris Wheel - 1 River Runner - 1 Flying Bobs - 1 Carousel - 1 On the way to KI, it dawned on me that my platinum pass was at Tom's house. We got to KI around 6:30, and since Tom's house is a bit of a drive from KI, I decided to go to GR and get a one day admission ticket since I didn't have my pass on me. The crowds at the gate were insane. We got to DB's queue as it was filling up. Brian (the ride sup?) complimented me on my last PTR from Holiday World, and said he enjoyed it. We walked and talked with him as he opened the lower queue. By the time the lower queue was full, so was the first one, and people were still piling in. We saw Brad (Indyguy4KI) on the train in front of us, so he waited for us. The three of us headed for a night ride on Beast, and then it was off to a night ride on Drop Tower. The queue was deserted. We rode, and then met back up with Ryan. The four of us rode Racer, Vortex (ow), Crypt (ugh, terrible), and headed to BLSC. In line for BLSC, I got a stomach ache and got light headed.. I wasn't feeling well at all, and it wasn't from the rides. It felt more like a virus. We saw Ronny (Gordon Bombay) working on BLSC. Tom got off BLSC and realized his phone wasn't in his pocket. He went back and they found it on the train. We wanted to ride DB, but they shut it down for crazy lightning that was flashing everywhere. My phone was almost dead, but I checked the radar anyway. Ryan took my phone to look at the radar (which didn't look pretty), and as soon as he did, it promptly "powered down" aka died. LOL. Thanks a lot, Ryan. We headed to the Festhaus to get some pizza. The guys were picking on me hardcore at this point lol. We had a good time picking on each other and telling stories over pizza and cups of soda. I couldn't quite finish my food, and the guys were going on about the "clean plate club" and staring me down with every bite I took. MEANIES! LOL this girl can eat.. leemee lone! haha Ryan went to get his pass processed, and the four of us went to see if DB was open. Brad and Ryan decided to wait, and DB did open. But Tom and I were freezing, wet, and tired, and the weather wasn't letting up.. so we said our goodbyes, called it a night, and went home. Ride count: Diamondback - 1 Drop Tower - 1 Racer - 1 Crypt - 1 BLSC - 1 Vortex - 1 Beast - 1 My stomach ache got worse to the point where I got sick after taking a Zantac 75 with a little water to try and feel better this morning.. I called in to work and promptly passed out until sometime after noon. I'm not feeling much better right now.. but I will live.

What kind of objects have you lost on a ride?
gigacoaster2k replied to csikoth's topic in Kings Island
Got a package in the mail today with my Motorola Rival that I lost to Maverick on September 13. Mav completely ate the back off my phone (which snaps on in THREE places, mind you!) and the battery. And my 2GB memory card that was in it won't read. It's a good thing I had a spare phone laying around just in case.. just a friendly reminder to double, triple, and quadruple check those cargo pockets! -
PTR: A half planned day to two parks!
gigacoaster2k replied to gigacoaster2k's topic in Trip Reports
I HIGHLY suggest the fudge from Mrs. Klaus' Kitchen, I don't leave Holiday World without some of it! My favorite is the chocolate, but the mint chocolate and peanut butter chocolate were very good too. They even have sucrose-free chocolate and chocolate walnut if you are diabetic, which my mom is, and her eyes got very wide after one bite of the piece I brought home for her. It doesn't smell or taste any different from the regular fudge. Tom is a fan of the fudge too, and so is Kat. I have one piece of the chocolate fudge left.. and it's right in front of me. I don't want to eat it right now, because I know I will want more! -

That is their skycoaster. Jesse, it was indeed nerve wracking. I couldn't drive 45 mph in some spots without hydroplaning. I ended up just saying screw it and drove 30-40 mph with my hazards, wipers, and traction control on. It took forever to get home, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. -
PTR: A half planned day to two parks!

We did! You should have gone with us, it was rainy all day.. that means no bugs I had an insect-free day at Holiday World and you missed it! -
Tom (Tom76257) and I decided that since Sunday was Chang's last operating day at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, that we'd head out there. I had been checking my weather report and my radar all day, and saw nothing but rain and thunderstorms. Enthusiast as we are, we said oh well.. we packed a cooler full of food, grabbed our bags, jumped in my car, and we were off to ride roller coasters! It was rain, rain, rain the whole way down there. I71 was particularly bad for hydroplaning. (please pardon the crummy quality of some of my photos.. I did a cell phone PTR in the rain LOL) How I feel about driving in a deluge. This is how Tom feels about the impending roller coasters. My VZNavigator messed up, and I could not find the SFKK entrance for the life of me. I was getting angry (as I do when I get lost in an unfamiliar city), so Tom suggested we stop and ask for directions (a man who does that?? WOW!! haha j/k Tom) This nice girl with a thick Southern accent offered to let me follow her to where I was supposed to go. On the way out the gas station where we had stopped, I slipped and fell on the wet pavement and busted up my right knee. At this point, I was beyond mad and I stayed quiet for the sake of everyone around me. We were pointed in the right direction, and I felt so incredibly stupid for missing the entrance. We made it to SFKK around 11:30 am, and it was sprinkling. We went straight for my baby.. GREEZED LIGHTNIN! NOBODY was in the queue, so we rode.. and then I realized.. I COULD GET A ZEN RIDE! So I took my turn in the back seat, and Tom took his turn in the front seat! We both got Zen rides on GL in a little bit of rain.. w00000t!! We went to RoadRunner Express (yes, we like that ride) and overheard the ride ops talking about how they might shut the park down due to the rain. They told us it was 100% chance of rain all day. After we rode RR Express, we decided to head for Chang. On the way, we heard the announcement that they were closing the park at 12:30 pm (this was announced at 12:15, by the way.. THANKS FOR THE WARNING!!). We booked it for Chang, and got the second to last ride ever. I was going to buy my on ride photo, but the photo booth was closed. I was getting mad again. I realized as we were heading to the exit that Holiday World was only an hour west.. and we decided that was the plan. An employee had the nerve to ask me how my day was going. I gave her a thumbs down and kept walking. On the way out to the car, we ran into a group of people around our age who had driven up from TN to go to the park. One guy got so mad when he told him what was going on, that he threw his drink on the ground and flipped off the park. I'm sorry, but I really can't blame him. So I turned on my VZNavigator to get to I64, and we were off again! My feelings about what happened. Tom agrees. On the way to Holiday World, I saw a new Mustang slam on its brakes, swerve into the left lane, cross the median through the grass, and go the opposite direction. It was so idiotic.. I mean, really? HOLIDAY WORLD!! It is only one hour west of SFKK.. I was so happy to see this!! Raven, and HW's entrance! Such a relief to be at such an amazing park! On our way in, Tom got to meet Pat Koch, shook hands with her and told her thanks for a great park. Pat is a really, really nice lady. She will joke and talk with you like the two of you have been friends for years. Our first ride of the day? You guessed it.. VOYAGE! We got to the station, and it was DESERTED!! We got three rides in a row without getting off the train! They were running one train ops, and the train we were on wasn't even full! Tom wanted to ride Legend, and I was all for it, so we headed that way.. again, DESERTED station! We got two rides on Legend without getting off the train! We were hearing some vicious sounding thunder, and I suggested we duck for cover. The thunder sounded like a wrecking ball hitting a building. This photo does not do justice to how ugly the storm clouds were. They were a sickly bluish gray, and had some very bright lightning in them. We ducked into a gift shop and waited out the storm. It was very bad. The lightning was extremely bright, and the explosive thunder was instantaneous after the lightning. It got so dark that the midway lights came on. I ended up buying a blue Holiday World carabiner, and a blue and gray Voyage shirt that I found on the clearance rack.. they had a juniors size! I was so happy to get a Voyage shirt I could wear! The storm finally let up, but we were hungry from waiting out the storm. We went to the car and ate, and on the way I risked this photo yet again. I managed to get this photo without dropping any electronic devices in the fountain! This plaque is on the side of the Applause Fountain, facing the entrance. w00t, Cedar Point! On the way back, we took more photos! Tom's feelings about Holiday World! (even though it looks like he's yawning haha.. he was making an OMG face.. there is NOTHING to yawn about at HW!) I LOVE HOLIDAY WORLD!! I grabbed my Cedar Point poncho from the car just in case.. I am VERY glad I did.. you will soon learn why. We came back to hear Liberty Launch running, so we rode that! I saw that there were more storms on the way, and it was about an hour and a half before the park closed, so we headed back to VOYAGE! We got 2 rides in a row in the very second seat, without getting off the train.. AND IN THE RAIN! That was an absolute total blast.. best water ride EVER! I will tell you one thing though.. those raindrops hurt my eyes on the first ride.. so I rode with my eyes shut for the full duration of the second ride. Voyage is terrifying with your eyes closed.. no, I am not joking! Tom tried it for about 5 seconds and agreed! It was starting to rain harder, so we checked Raven.. closed. We booked it to Legend, and sat in the very front. While we were in the station, we heard more violent thunder, and the rain was coming down harder and harder. We heard the phone ring, and feared we were going to get stuck in the station.. instead, the ride op smiled and gave a thumbs up, and out our train went into the deluge! That was one amazing water ride.. although painful, that was GREAT! It was about 5 pm, and the weather wasn't letting up.. it was getting worse and worse. We called it a day since the park was scheduled to close at 5:30, and headed to Mrs. Klaus' Kitchen for some of that amazing fudge. Tom and I were DRENCHED.. we may as well have jumped into the fountain. Me in my CP poncho that Voyage ripped. I got 5 pieces of fudge: a chocolate, a peanut butter chocolate, and a chocolate mint for me, a chocolate mint for Tom, and a sucrose free chocolate for my mom. You get 5 pieces of fudge for $10.. and the pieces are not small. As we left the park, I took a pic of Wildebeest track.. again, sorry for the crummy quality. STILL raining. Check out my shirt. Tom is passed out. I was doing fine in the rain until we got back into lower Kentucky. We stopped to stretch somewhere a few miles north of Louisville, and I forgot to turn my traction control back on when we got back onto I71. It was getting dark, and my highest wiper speed wasn't helping in the least. Then the unthinkable happened. I hit a deep puddle, and suddenly my car was fishtailing out of control and took a hard right swing toward a guard rail. I managed to get it back under control (while noticeably freaking out), but my adrenaline was WAY up.. that is the closest I have ever come to a major accident. I kicked myself for not turning my traction control on sooner, but I am thankful that there were no cars around me, and that nothing happened to Tom, me, or Stormy (my nickname for my car). I stopped to try and chill out, and get some gas. No sooner did I get out of my car than I saw a BRIGHT flash and the loudest BANG I've ever heard in my life. I saw a bolt of lightning hit a tree less than 1/4 mile away. That certainly did not help me calm down, but it was cool to see. I even heard the electrical snap from the lightning and saw sparks fly from the tree when the bolt hit it.. the hair even stood up on my arms! We finally made it back around midnight. I was driving through rain the whole way back, and wasn't going to risk almost wrecking again. We had a great time. I think my favorite part of the trip was the unplanned part.. and even though we didn't get massive ride counts in, we laughed it off and enjoyed our day and its randomness! My ride count: Greezed Lightnin - 2 Chang - 1 RoadRunner Express - 1 Voyage - 5 Legend - 3 Liberty Launch - 1

Speed Dating On A Roller Coaster
gigacoaster2k replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I figure if someone doesn't like a couple showing affection, they could just look away. Or if they think it's that big of an issue, they could: 1. get over it, 2. get a life, or 3. get a girlfriend or boyfriend. Or all of the above. I have noticed that it is the single people who usually grumble about even a simple PDA, whereas those in a relationship find it cute.. such a human tendency is indeed rooted in jealousy as I have learned, so I honestly don't care what others think. -

I bring my own beverages into the park, but I still buy some food and some souvenirs there. You people who haven't spent a cent at the park all season may be saving some money, but you are also helping spell the end for Cedar Fair. -
Speed Dating On A Roller Coaster

I don't mind a hug and a kiss. I've noticed that couples who are afraid of public affection usually do not last.. if you're ashamed to show affection to him or her in public, then I can guarantee that your relationship isn't healthy to start with. It's just when people are all over each other and practically doing it in the queue, that it gets on my nerves. Tone it down to G rated.. amusement parks are where people take their kids and families. It's not a strip club or a bar.. have some respect for each other and the people around you. -
Haha! Me yelling at PhantomTheater from the middle of the train on Sunday: "Why are you waiting for the front?" Him: "I like having a spine!" I should have listened!
-
I take back what I said about Mean Streak.. it is downright horrible. As an enthusiast, I feel bad for saying that.. but it jarred me up and down and threw my spine against the hard seat back DURING THE WHOLE RIDE. My lower back hurt so badly that I took two Advil as I exited, and I gave it the bird as we walked away. NEVER AGAIN.

Best first drop at KI: Diamondback Best first drop at CP: Maverick, very closely followed by Millennium Force I like 'em steep and tall!!

You may have also seen them on Magnum, Blue Streak, and Wildcat.. ..I mean, what? 0:) tehe -
If two people are riding and they both kick their feet HARD shortly after it launches.. trust me, it SPINS. And spins. And spins.
-
Aside from the obvious DB splashdown, I honestly like BLSC's ending the best. You shoot out of a pitch black tunnel and go UNDER the queue.. w00t!

lol even though mav ate my phone, it remains in my top 5 steel. that is one wild ride.
