  1. KBF did not have metal detectors last year. Although I hear they are excellent at spotting people with eyeglasses there At the beginning of last year, the metal detectors were definitely working and had staffed security per lane. This changed at some point during the season. I believe they were back on every time I went during haunt. If and/or when they decide to use them again is not really of a concern to me.
  2. I'll point out that rides I didn't even think of riding also broke down today Glad we got an evac although found it funny that a rider in our group was training the supervisor on how to use the manual restraint releases.
  3. Oh yea, today would have been a tough day to be in Guest Relations. Like others, we were ready to get on Beast when it went down. We were in the Crypt boarding room when it went down. We were evac'd from Racer when it went down. Heck, even the final segment of American Country ha a technical glitch while we were watching. That said, it was good to be back in the park, I had fun with friends and family, saw a good show, rode several rides, and tried to not let the crowds an downtime bother me. And I'm still waiting to hear a complaint about the single train op on Firehawk. That line had to be brutal.
  4. Sorry but other peoples experience in various lines of work won't help either. And to think I got my hopes up after this response because I've been told so many times that AZ is in a position to know and shouldn't be doubted.
  5. Avatar - I hope KI has as much class as HW did with the timberliners (I'd it doesn't open on time). Gordon - you are right that most on these forums aren't qualified to answer whether it will open, but many on these forums have experience in fields that give us cause for concern at the least. They are still running wires and completing construction activities less than 96 hours before it's scheduled opening. It's not silly to think that they are behind schedule and might be late - startup activities take time and often identify problems, especially on serial #001
  6. Look at it this way, the park has two options if they aren't going to open WindSeeker on Opening Day: Announce it - in which case they are likely to reduce opening day attendance Not announce it until opening day - in which case opening day attendance will be unchanged What would you do? It will be interesting to see how they handle it on opening day if it isn't open.
  7. I know, at $4 a gallon, it costs me about $1.50 to get to and from the park In all seriousness, we'll have to see how things play out at KI this summer, but rising prices are something we are all going to have to get used to at the gas station, at the mall, at the grocery store, and at the amusement park.
  8. For me, what is out of whack is the difference in costs between a 1 day non-discounted ticket price and the special offer prices (booking online, through local stores, season passes). Compare the price paid for one day admission as shared earlier by CedarPointer: 1 day 2007: $44.95 1 day 2011: $51.99 Increase of $7 over 5 years Compared to the Gold Pass Prices I've paid recently: 2011 Pass: $49.99 (includes $20 Sellout Day Discount, so normal at the time was $69.99) 2010 Pass: $69.99 (they didn't offer the extra Sellout Day Discount that year, as they were giving everyone the $69.99 Gold Deal) 2009 Pass: $64.99 (included $20 Sellout Day Discount, so normal at the time was $84.99) 2008 Pass: $89.95 (didn't make it to the Sellout Day in 2007) Decrease of $20 ($40 if account for Sellout Day Discount) over 4 years Personally, I'm not really complaining , but when you think about it, I'm not sure it's the best business strategy. If I were in charge I'd do the following: Gate cost and special discount would only be $5-7 difference. Think $45.99 at the gate and discounts of $38.99 (it would be interesting to see if average price paid would go up) Gold Pass would be ~2-2.5 times the 1-time cost. Think $84.99 in the fall to $94.99 in the spring (I recall that a Season Pass in the 80's was almost 3x the 1-time cost) In park pricing would come down slightly, but I would give a 10-15% discount across the board to Passholders (I buy an overpriced meal almost every time I go to the museum center/zoo with my discount) Of course, I don't have the pricing models that they do at KI, so I may just have bankrupted the company. It's also hard to change precedent, which is why it'll be hard to push Gold Pass pricing up again since they've set the $69.99 bar the last couple of years.
  9. Will someone who knows share how much of an increase this was from last year for a one day un-discounted admission. I never seem to need to know. I do find it ironic that I spent less for my gold pass for this season.
  10. Thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures and experience of your family. I love being a Dad and visiting Disney/parks with my kids as it sounds like you are also beginning to - it makes it so special. I hear so many people say they'll wait until kids are the "right" age to visit - I say any age is right as you also show.
  11. Dave - considering that you are now featured in a Holiblog post, I think you can start planning
  12. Ok, got to admit this intrigued me. Wondering what and how they are assessing this. As others have said on the interview - be yourself, the interviewer knows what he/she is looking for and will determine if you fit. And remember, it's not a bad thing if you don't.
  13. Random thought - from the renderings, it looks like WindSeeker will turn counter-clockwise. On the map, it shows riders facing as if riding clockwise. direction as seen from above the ride. I wonder which it will be?
  14. The buyout day I go to every year is typically the day to renew - Gold Passes have normally been $20 off the current price. That turned out to be less than $50 this year. I had planned to upgrade to Platinum, but couldn't justify based on that price without firm trip plans.
  15. Trying to respond without violating the TOS. There are plenty of things that our leaders could do, whether they will work together and do something is one question. Another question is whether "we, the people" are willing to accept what they propose. Unfortunately in this country, many of us want it all - the nice house in the suburbs, big SUV, no drilling in our backyard, cheap fuel, high environmental standards, flexibility of driving ourselves to work, our kids in every activity possible, low taxes, free markets, etc... This, along with other factors involving public transportation has made us very dependent upon oil. The solutions aren't easy, economically viable alternatives don't exist today, and the political climate makes getting things done tough. The pain will likely need to be severe and prolonged before things change, unfortunately.
  16. It slipped through because when proof reading it, Don accidentally covered up this section of the map As discussed, there used to be lockers up against the Emporium wall, but according to this post in a 2010 things that changed thread, they were removed last year.
  17. I think you are 100% correct. If Mr. Hart was investing $50 Million private dollars for this venture, I'm sure he would be looking for tax incentives based upon his investment. I see no reason that he wouldn't be as likely to receive them as the Ark park or any other business investing private dollars to bring jobs, tourists, or revenue to Kentucky. Put simply - one is truly an incentive for private industry to invest in Kentucky, the other is a request for a handout from the city and state. What I think many find interesting is the outward show of support the governor gave to the Ark park (showing up at the announcement) versus the lack of comment on Kentucky Kingdom.

  19. I'll start by saying I don't consider SoB214 a troll - he is not here just to disrupt these forums although he does have a lot of passion for the ride which comes off in a similar fashion at times. That said, SoB214, if you want to be able to enjoy your hope in peace and believe what you want to believe (as you have posted you do), I'd recommend you don't continually antagonize others - which you have to know 'I think it might open' posts will. I, personally, think you need to try and take a rationale assessment of the situation and adjust your hopes down - some data: Park has said the ride will not run again until they are happy with it. No change to that statement indicates it is likely still not planned to run. No work has been done to change the ride. Based upon the above statement, this also indicates it is likely still not planned to run. Take a look at ALL the tweets, photo's, FB updates that KI has shared with us this offseason. No mention of SoB indicates it is likely still not planned to run. Park has hired employees. I've seen people on here and FB reference being ride ops at many rides. None mentioned SoB which indicates it is likely still not planned to run. I could go on, but don't feel like it I'd love to ride The Bat, King Cobra, Son of Beast (with loop), and SoB (w/o loop) again. Unfortunately ...
  20. Random note - I realized this evening that I can see the top part of WindSeeker from my house.
  21. I agree, they aren't stupid. It is possible, however, that they are wrong.
  22. Disney counter service prices seemed significantly cheaper than CF on my trip last week - oh, and the food was better also. As for Table Service, it's kind of hard to compare to Kings Island ...
  23. My wife and I ate at the Outback Steakhouse at the corner of Kings Island Drive and Rt 741 off I-71 (North Entrances - near the Harley Dealership). They are building a new set of restaurants in that vicinity facing Kings Island Drive and an employment sign on a construction trailer indicated that it will be a: Jimmy Johns DQ Chipotle They did not look like they'll be ready by opening day, but it looks like new close to park food options continue to appear. I apologize if this was noted elsewhere, I searched and didn't see anything.
  24. Understand your opinion Kevin, but have to agree with Terpy that Raven is an awesome coaster - I literally could enjoy riding that all day. I also enjoy Voyage, so a visit to Holiday World is likely going to happen for me this summer. As for Coatermania, I completely understand either decision that would be made HWN or CM, and if your Dad is driving, it's nice that you think of him as well
