A fun little fact - this thread has reached 70 pages in a week. For reference the Official Diamondback Construction thread took 6 weeks to get there and finished at almost 500 pages - let's try to break that record by Tuesday! I'm kidding about breaking the record. At the risk of being told to shut up and quit acting like a moderator (I know I'm not one), I'm going to try and share a little advice based upon what I read in this thread today - and yes I did read every post of all 13+ pages at least once. To all the new members who have found KIC and are contributing to this thread - welcome, I hope you find this community as much fun as I have over the last couple of years. It has been a good group to be a part of and I've learned a lot and enjoyed meeting members from here (whether online only or live as well). Please stick around and enjoy yourself. That said, I'd also recommend that many of you slow down - this isn't a chat or text environment. To fully experience the site, I'd recommend that you read, think, then post, then sit back and see what others in the hundreds of daily visitors have to say before thinking about posting again. It's the best way to learn. To everyone - remember, you were likely new, young, and/or inexperienced on this site at one time in your life. If I remember correctly, I got a PM from Robbie after my first post to give me some advice (or scold me for something ) - maybe we could all find a helpful way to encourage positive participation from some of the newer members versus ripping them for every mistake they make. Some quick thoughts: Opinions are fine, but please make rational arguments to support and listen politely to rational arguments that disagree. Humor can be fun, but not everyone reading it will understand it (an emoticon can help) and recognize that not everyone needs to be the funny guy. Be polite, remember that someone is at the other end of the internet reading what you say.

The Magic of Disneyland Through a Child's Eyes...
KIfan1980 replied to RailRider's topic in Trip Reports
I'll be on the lookout for you in the (likely heavy) crowds! With a 5 and 7 year old, we'll be doing a big mix of rides - luckily they are both adventurous so anything they are tall enough for is fair game at least once. -
Yes - you can believe me, or watch the video.

Who says that T-Rex is going behind Racer. It is now mounted on the new concrete pad at the South entrance. Will likely be there all year is my guess as advertising.
-
-
I always seem to go for whichever side is open
-
Here is a pic of the shipping container and what was taken out sitting right next to the south park entrance. I have no idea about what will be in the announcement, but if I had to guess - I'd say that the item from the container will be mounted on that nice new concrete pad sometime around Friday.

Wow - it's not even Friday and the complaints have started

Windseeker & Coney Mall Construction Continues
KIfan1980 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
If you'd like to see a tower crane, there is a clearly visible example located on the west side of I-71 in the general vicinity of the Kenwood Towne Place. It apparently isn't going anywhere for a while -
Depending upon the 3/18/11 announcement, I might ride Blue Racer after ERT ends.

While I agree that many on this forum are hyping it up and likely to get themselves disappointed on Friday - you can't say that KI isn't feeding this also. From the same park that made the announcement about the WindSeeker announcement a day ahead of time - this time they've posted teasing pictures, tweeted about planning, changed their main webpage banner (and update it almost daily), posted Facebook status updates, and are also producing videos to hype this announcement. I'll also note, the hype is working (good job Don!) - this thread is at 37 pages and counting, there are currently 156 active users of KIC (54 members, 98 guests, 3 anonymous users, and 1 Terpy ). Something tells me if you compare that to two weeks ago and you'll see a big difference. One thing I hope KI does is release the full video without the sound effects after the announcement - I believe that some of what he said was just "stock" Kings Island speak (check 0:28 - 0:36). He very easily could be saying "...Kings Island has more than 70 rides and attractions in a spectacular outdoor setting ..." This might be nothing to do with the new ride and attraction.

And that Red Container is sitting at the edge of the parking lot by the South Entrance to KI. It also appears to be sitting next to a newly poured concrete mat (at least I don't remember it being there) that may be related to the items in the bottom left of the picture. If I had to guess it contains a sign of some sort that will be put up sometime after 3/18/11. Edit: Is anyone who knows willing to identify the gentleman in the picture holding the map - name and role at KI?

GWL parking lot doesn't give the best views of WS pieces due to the trees. A good place to go is the passenger pickup/dropoff area by the sign. You don't enter KI gates, but can see things well. -
Personal Belongings On Roller Coasters at KI
KIfan1980 replied to KILateNighter's topic in Kings Island
I understand this thought process, but will tell you that I do have the Kohls charge card and it is the ONLY store card I have. I ended up paying $16.80 for these shorts (I had the 30% discount this time and it is on top of the sale price). In addition, since I picked up a few things for the kids also, I got $10 back in "Kohls Cash" I know I sound like an ad for Kohls here, but I hate to pay more when there really isn't a downside - so long as you can be disciplined enough to pay off the charges in full each month. -
Personal Belongings On Roller Coasters at KI
KIfan1980 replied to KILateNighter's topic in Kings Island
I just purchased a couple of pairs of cargo shorts from Kohls today (exact shorts can be found in the link). While the main pockets have the 2 velcro pieces, above the right pocket is a nice deep zippered pocket that will find my iphone and keys in it for coaster rides. -
- year/season 1 = 1972 - year 2 = 1973 - year 10 = 1981 ... - year/season 40 = 2011 Think of your birthdays, you turn 1 at the end of your first year.
-
A drive past the parking lot also indicates they are preparing for vertical construction very soon - in addition to WindSeeker pieces, there are also crane pieces.
-
All I got to say is that I think that video was very well played. Here's an idea - announce a 2012 ride now and then offer a special 2 year season pass this spring.
-
My hope - the announcement will be about a new coaster going in the area by The Racer where the red squiggly line drawing was (if I really dream, I'd say B&M invert, with the lines showing the footprint of the ride clearing, and tunnels connecting some of the places that otherwise looked like they should have connected). My fear - KI website was hacked and someone is just messing with us What I know - I'm not good at being patient
-
Looks like we all found the same site in the last 10 minutes - so at least 3 more feet of water predicted. Ouch.
-
Thanks for the pictures - from what I heard on the radio today, the river is still climbing and is expected to crest a couple of feet higher than today sometime this weekend. Do you know the level as these pics were taken versus crest level by any chance?
-
More proof that things are not always as one remembers Although considering it was about 30 years ago, I'll forgive myself.
-
The Racer had one train of each color on a given side until Cedar Fair turned recar back forward. In the picture, both are going forward. To my knowledge, when going forward, there was always a red side and blue side.
-
Not sure yet - depends upon what time kids soccer and t-ball games are (assuming it ever stops raining long enough to dry out the fields). Gotta respect the effort you (and others) put into getting to KI for a day. For me, with 15 minutes of driving there and back ... I feel lucky.
-
Am I being too cynical if I think that they got rid of the tunnel to force more people (especially those with kids) to walk past the ice cream stand?
