  1. Supporty Forty... timey wimey stuff...
  2. Did I miss something? Did KI come out and state its an invert? If not then, it is not a proven fact. Step back and cool down for a second my friend...
  3. Great article. It brings up the questions we have debated on her time and time again. Do you make seats that fit larger guests or do you limit larger guests from riding? Do you add a seat belt to existing rides or let them be? IMO, I feel that we can only make things so safe. Adding a seat belt or at least a belt that can attach to the seat and restraint would be an easier fix. This would also lead to a customer feeling safer because "if the restraint fails, at least this seat belt will help keep me from flinging out"... Also rides are designed for the guest to hold on correct? Maybe stricter enforcement of these rules? But how many rights of passage have their been for the first person in their group to be able to hold there arms up the entire ride of The Beast. (I remember I was 9/10 when I was finally able to do that). Limiting larger guests? Well maybe. Honestly, Im just glad I dont have to make any of these decisions...
  4. Terp, I thought I read on these boards or somewhere similar that Taft wanted an amusement park to showcase their characters, similar to the Disney model. Was this correct? Any more details on this?
  5. And where is your source for this? Isn't it usually independent sites that will stream it? And if not that, people will likely be live blogging it. Also, all the renderings, info, and any videos released will be online within minutes. Lastly, I'm sure people will record the announcement and later post it on YouTube. So, if it's hard for you to get to the park, there's no reason to worry. Kings Island tweeted there were no plans to broadcast it live. What day did they tweet that? I cant find it They pitched the idea to me about broadcasting it live on KIC, but Dane and I don't know if we have the technology to do that in a good way. Don't worry, we'll cover every angle of it. I'll be live Tweating the whole thing and bigger updates will directly to KIC's FB. For those of you who want to get a kick start and follow: KICentral's Facebook KICentral's Twitter Could you do a live hit using something like Justin.tv where people can log in? All you would need is a camera and an internet connection, like a cell phone?
  6. Morning Newscasts are about a different vibe. They also have multiple hours to to fill. With a live event in the morning they can check in for 2 mins during each news block (30 min blocks). They can do that every block from 4/5 am till 7/8/9am (when ever they are off). For a news crew to do a live hit from the park for a press conference, it would take way to much time/money/effort for such a little play back. They are better off sending a crew (or just a cameraman no reporter) to get to Cover video of the set up. Grab the 10 second quote. and be done with it. For a live hit, the station needs to send out the live truck (transmitter), run the cables to the part of the park where its happening. Get a signal, either bounce the signal from sat or ground back to the station. All of this plus the crew to run it. 2-3 people for set up. Plus the hard part of getting it to fit into the show. A newscast is sort of like catching lightening. You work really hard and its over in 30 mins. A live hit press conference never run for what you expect. You expect them to go for 3 mins and it takes 30. Just does not work for a nightly news crew. If this was a major breaking news conference (city going bankrupt, etc) then its a different story. But for an amusement park announcement, sorry, I dont see a news crew wasting a night time broadcasting this live...
  7. I actually have several pairs with zipper pockets, but they're from Abercrombie. I actually like Abercrombie stuff, I think it's great quality (lasts forever, durable material), but it's overpriced. But I guess I'd rather pay more at once for something that will last for a long time rather than spend less but have to buy things multiple times due to getting worn out. I actually just had to trash all of my American Eagle shorts. They were about 8 years old and faded. The color went before the durability.....
  8. Would the Tennis Courts and Golf Course had been built? They were conceived by Taft, correct?
  9. i have gone to KI one time in the last 5 years.... does that make me any worse as an enthusiast? I say go to the park. Enjoy it all! If you have time, check out the shows. They are always great. Ed Alonzo was surprisingly awesome last year!
  10. Thats true, but if KI never opened that doesnt mean Taft would never have bought another park. Its a fair assumption to say KD would never have opened, but in my opinion I believe Taft would have opened parks elsewhere. KI was the starting point, but KD could have been. Would it have been called Kings Dominion, Im not sure if King would have been used. Taft bought the rights to Hannah Barbera characters in the late 60s. It was my understanding that they wanted a theme park to display these characters.
  11. I dont think we would be that far behind in the the amusement park world. Just because KI didnt exist does not mean other parks wouldnt have been created. Are we to assume that KICO wouldnt have moved/closed Old Coney? So Cincinnati's theme park would have been still by the river? We would probably have a very small regional park similar to Geuga Lake. With the Shooting Star still doing its thing. Yearly flooding would be a problem. Odds are Partridge Family and Brady Bunch family members would have been seen at Kings Dominion. Would John Allen have built a ride like Racer? Probably not. Because KI wanted to bring a classic ride similar to Shooting Star..... Would Coney have been bought buy Paramount? Maybe. But possibly it would have been a flag park... Americana could possibly still be open. Crowds would not have been split. Would Middletown have been a bigger draw for business? Would the exits around KI even have anything like they do now? Great Wolf Lodge would not be in that area.... The school district may not be as good since the tax base would be hurt.... EDIT: BTW Love the idea of this topic....
  12. Did you not like your hearing? JK. That hill was so loud! Favorite sound: Tie. The very top of Vortex when the lift hill roll backs click over to the mini drop before the turn / The Beast lift hill. I just love the sound of click click click click. Favorite smell: AE or possibly the train?
  13. That is true. The day we went up a few years ago, it rained briefly in the morning (right before opening). The crowds stayed away. It had about a 40% chance of rain on the point but by 2 pm we had ridden everything in the park (minus shoot the rapids...)
  14. Don knows. In a situation like this. Does Don have final say on what is being given to the public and what is not, or is that dictated by higher ups? I believe, I read an article that said each park runs as its own park but does that mean the individual park has say in teasers/etc?
  15. Ladies and gentleman... please use verbs and use the correct verb endings. Singular/plural/3rd person etc. Also, if possible, commas would be of great help as well.
  16. And according to ICD-9 medical codes its a dislocated vertebrae....

  22. I laughed when I read the tweet. Didnt think anything about....
  23. Yea my parents have a limited knowledge of rides outside their home park....
  24. I was talking to my parents today and they brought up the question of why they dont just add an extra level of safety like seat belts to rides at KI
  25. Totally get it. I guess I get a bit passioned when it comes to discussing news. I still have many friends across the country who are great reporters. I had a chance to work with these guys and ladies and am honored to call em friends. So apologizes if it came across a bit rash...
