Hey KICers, I hope this is the place to post something like this and if not I am sure I will be told about it.... either way I found this video on one of the websites I always visit and it shows a kid on his first coaster. I figured you all would enjoy watching it as we have all been there. The wonderment of the first hill, the fear of the first drop, the excitement of the turns and then when the brakes hit we all want to ride again. Please watch and enjoy, I am not the owner of the video and again do not know the people in the video but either way its a good memory spark. Enjoy and feel free to share your first roller coaster moments.

what do you mean asking for it ? i've rode Son of Beast mulitiple times in the very back and didn't experience anything rougher than what you experience in the back seat of The Beast. and cedarpointer, no one died on Son of Beast, that would require them to be setting in the train at the time of death, they died the next day. Coasterjunkie, with your logic that would be very few people ever died anywhere. The lady who fell out of Space Commander died when she hit the ground, not because she fell out of the ride. Blunt Force trauma caused the injuries that lead to his death on SOB. Apply the logic of this. You hit a person while they are walking across the street. They later die in the hospital due to blunt force trauma caused by the car accident. They die two days later. They still died from the car accident.

I understand that its cheaper for the park to have snoopy, and I am okay with it, kids will get over it, may not be happy and may ask a lot of questions from their parents but they will get over it. My only comment is this directed at the people who think kids will love the peanuts characters like they did growing up. Kids will not love them like they do the characters on nick. Its an easy reason for this, and thats because they are exposed to Nick characters constantly, Snoopy and the gang are not shown and kids will not flock to get a picture with Charlie, but Snoopy is not frightening as much. You know what dog I would love to see at a park though is Droopy. So side question.... does this mean The Beastie, will it be returning as a name or will it go to the same name graveyard as The Scooby Doo?

Sadly SmurfRide, it was written by a television station, and most write stories to either be read or get the notes on paper. Depending on the news organization, some times they just post the scripts that were used on tv. (I use to work on tv so I have seen things like this)

http://www.newsnet5.com/entertainment/20750219/detail.html well at least when the hannah barbara land was in the park the cartoons were being regularly played on a station..... not starting a fight just saying

the blunt force trauma was not a pre-existing injury. I posted about this back a few pages (maybe around page 20 or so.) The preconditioned reason was because the guy was over weight. The blunt force trauma injuries can cause internal damage to organs inside the body. "A 30-year-old man from Mississippi died the day after he rode the Son of Beast. The Hamilton County Coroner determined he had died from hemorrhagic shock and blunt impact to the torso. Ronald Jones had several pre-existing health conditions and should have never taken a ride, the investigation determined. He had a protein S deficiency, neurofibrosis and was morbidly obese, according to the chief deputy coroner." read about it here I included links to what protein deficiencies are, along with neurofibrosis, and an original link to the story

well times are a changing.... Again I am probably beating a dead horse, but the only problem with this is that Peanuts are not ACTIVELY being shown to the youth.... Kids areas are for kids... but it will be great fun to see a brand new area... I am excited...

correct me if I am wrong but just because Nick is leaving doesnt mean Scooby is gone too...... did we read this somewhere or are we all loosing our minds?

so does Goofy ever take Pluto out for a walk?

Raptor back in your day tv was not as big as it is to today's youth. For those of us in our 20s tv just started taking over the lives of the children but now kids under the age of ten prefer tv characters versus fresh air, sad but true. In your day it was not about theming but now Kids want the Disney World Experience, that means characters, shops, and more characters.... sad but true... Hopefully Raptor if and when you have kids you raise them to not rely on tv and tv shows. (BTW I am not slamming anyone who has kids who watch tv, my nieces and nephews barely tv but still know every theme song and cartoon character on tv right now)

74gibson very well thought out post. Plus Scooby is a Hannah Barbara character, not owned by Nick, so it should be easy to keep him and I am betting he stays in the park for many many years to come, heck he is almost the KI mascot. I am not pointing fingers at CF so to say, but what I am saying is that they have a character who is not recognized by children everywhere. I understand its a money issue and they were put in a corner with what was happening. Are the Warner Bro characters still important at the 6 flag parks? Again no one is pointing fingers, or at least Im not, at Ceder Fair saying they are trying to destroy the kids area, but over all it is a poor cartoon character to have an area themed towards. I may be on my own on this thought but wasnt Peanuts always serious, and not light hearted. Every time I think of a peanuts cartoon or comic strip I always think life lesson, heavy thought provoking stuff with a lesson, never zany antics......
-
Thats the issue Peanuts has not been on tv and is not familiar with kids..... Looney Toons and Disney Characters have been in the spotlight for their entire lifetimes. Play a wawawa sound to kid or even some teenagers and they have no idea what you are talking about. (In case no one gets my point make the sound the parents made in Peanuts...)

So I may be off topic for a moment, BTW I will not judge till I ride all 3, but only in Virgina would they name a ride after a nascar legend. But this does allow KD to have a kiddie roller coaster called "The Intimidated 8" with a hill of 30 feet and always needing to stop......
-
74gibson, with the ride being broken or not running you still have those same crowds right now.... so hopefully they do fix it so i can get another ride on it next year to remind myself why I do not enjoy riding it all the time.... with that being said hopefully it does get fixed but we shall sit and wait....

I doubt we will see what happend at GL happen to KI. Too many issues about the crypt to even begin to explain why or what happened there, from what I have gathered (opinion) the weaker version is to keep operating costs down, and its inside a big building so its not like the one at KD (meaning they did not have to keep the special effects for people to look at while walking by, fountains fire etc, everyone walking by our Crypt goes "hey its a big building"). The SOB going down hill fast is not CF's fault but a continuation of the rides many many issues from the start (not picking a fight). The changing of the guard in Hannah Barbara Land/Nick U/Camp Snoopy is to save money not destroy the park. yes it sucks as we have talked about kids will not know who the Peanuts gang is etc. I would start worrying about GL type problems if The Beast broke down to never be fixed, FoF no longer operating. Rides that have had a history of "breaking down/being royal pains" doing what they do, injury=shut down for a while, not a huge concern. But then again maybe I have been drinking too much Kool-Aide

Yeah Nick/Cartoon Network still have a good cartoon stable going on, where The House the Mouse Built has gone more live action shows(Wizards of Waverly Place, Thats so Raven, Hannah Montanna)...... cheaper than animators and voice actors? Nick still has the best stable of cartoons (Spongebob, Penguins, Fairly Odd Parents, Dora Etc) while Cartoon Network is home to many cartoons of days gone by and new today (Kids next Door, Batman, Dexter, Johnny Bravo, Scooby Doo, Etc) its official I have found a use for my Digital Media Convergence degree, I am talking cartoon tv shows on a blog for an amusement park.... makes college seem worth it
-
I think that ever since Disney shows are available on some basic tv channels now, ABC kids, along with some moderately priced middle of the road cable packages parents feel it is safe to leave their kids with Disney on in the background. Disney as a station has Hannah Montana along with the Suite Life of Zach and Cody....

So I could not find an exact break down of tv shows based on the criteria of cartoons but I did find this, which is the ratings of the top 20 tv shows on cable this past week. If you scroll down the highest ranked cartoon is Spongebob. Along with my mini-research there are no current Peanuts cartoon in active rotation on any network for the past year (hence no Peanuts/Charlie Brown tv ratings) except for the once a year Christmas/Halloween themed Charlies Brown shows. Not surprisingly, for viewers of all ages Disney pulled in the most "youth targeted audiences" while Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network surged in different areas targeting specific kids during different day parts. What does this all mean, there is no current cartoon out there that has anything to do with Charlie Brown that young children could recognize. It may have something to do with the creator of Peanuts, Charles Schultz, is dead and no current animation team has worked out a weekly tv show to air. I had to edit a part where I wrote Charlie Brown shoes and not shows

Well that sort of change be better in the long run as the children will be healthier.... but kidding aside this seems to be nothing more than a money issue and no thought on what kind of affect it will have on kids... I am currently looking for a ratings distribution of viewers for each cartoon and I will then be able to show what sort of kids watch what cartoons and what would be a viable option for the kiddie land (I know my work will not change how the park operate but I have today off and nothing else to do:))
-
I do not think anyone is saying it is hard to teach your kids to change, but if you have ever been around young children on a constant basis, I have nieces and nephews in the 3-9 year old range, that kids have certain shows. Now of course kids will still want to ride the rides and will get pictures, but to be truthful kids dont know who the characters are. Children will have a hard time recognizing these characters, and that has nothing to do with parents not teaching the kids.
-
I do not have kids but I will have kids in the near future (3-5 yrs) so hopefully by then the park is rethemed again. Look we all were up in arms when the switch came from HB to Nick, and we are all up in arms again. The only difference is that the first switch was taking characters we grew up with, both in the park and on tv, and replaced them with what kids were watching at the time. If you watched the documentary from CET Mr. Helbig mentioned that the kiddie area got re themed because its what the kids wanted. I am not saying keep the Nick Universe if it too expensive but the could have at least tried as a park to get something relevant to children. Ok the Flintstones are not relevant but their cartoons still make way on Cartoon Netowrk along with Scooby and the Gang. To be truthful when was the last time anyone has seen a Charlie Brown cartoon on tv, that was not a holiday cartoon? I agree we shouldnt be too worried until they make an announcement, but at the same time we do have a right to be upset. Children under the age of 14 still love Spongebob, Dora, and Scooby. On a positive note, does this mean we may be getting a new movie in action theater?

THIS FRIDAY! "Riding History To The Limits"!
shark6495 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Hey great doc. Well put together and what an awesome walk down memory lane while also teaching a little bit about the park before our time of enjoying.... Way to go PBS -
I am a fan off all the above except the ride theming and one side dispatch. Mainly this sounds some what expensive and seems it could go terribly wrong and cause the ride to be down while installing such things. The dual side dispatch could be run more effectively, didn't they do it in GL? The ride crew at FH are great don't get me wrong but for some reason there is a stalling moment there when there is an issue. The rest of the ideas sound great, shades for riders and Que line....

CedarPointer's Kings Island Survival Guide!
shark6495 replied to CedarPointer's topic in Kings Island
yeah i feel bad enough when I go with my Fiance and we hold hands or she leans on me while standing in line. I hate the teenagers who feel this is the back seat of their dads car and its ten minutes before midnight. keep it in your pants kids........
