  1. I hope I didn't come across as complaining ... trims are the arch enemy of any coaster enthusiast, but they are reality. Trims save us all money, albeit in an indirect sort of way. Not only do they make our beloved rides safer, but they cut down a bit on off-season maintenance. As a wise man once said (love ya Terpy), it's all about the Nickels. Saving a few Nickels on coaster maintenance is a good thing. That translates into a (somewhat) cheaper season for us. As infuriating as it can be, trim brake debate is a good thing. Look at it this way ... if we're all yelling about trims, and that is our most upsetting concern, we're in pretty good shape! P.S. I hate trims. Very true if trims are the only thing we can argue about we are doing a great thing. I never claimed to enjoy or love trims I just think of them like a necessary evil, sort of like Rap music.... (JK I worked as a dj for a few years before going back to school and hated that stuff)
  2. Hey guys, First I want to apologize for earlier if I seemed like a straight up d..... I have been studying hard for a few test and came on here to blow off steam by reading about my favorite park, and I just saw people complaining and went off...... So again sorry. Now here is my thought, if they did turn off the MCBR it means the ride is run with it because of maintenance? just an idea
  3. money comes from the same pot but if you have ever worked at a business each area is given a budget. So the LCD and the maintenance areas get an annual budget they have to stay with in from the parent company...... This battle of trims versus no trims seems to be split down the middle based on life experiences..... Take a deep breath......... its going to be okay..... and if you dont like trims great good for you build your own park, not in roller coaster tycoon, and figure the costs out from there.....
  4. now before I get too much into an argument with people... are we both talking about the same point when FoF stops... about mid way through before it turns left..... beast rider it was not an attack on being older and wiser but being mature... maturity happens at different points. Some rides are not designed to run the way they do but because of design flaws or miscalculations have to be changed. It happens all the time. Its not to cut back the fun. By your argument SOB was designed to have the loop and use heavy trains but we saw what happened to that right when it was run the way it was designed. My main point of argument was this, and I will use caps so the skimmers will see this park.... BE MATURE AND ENJOY THE RIDES WE HAVE. COMPLAINING DOES NOTHING BUT MAKE YOUR RIDE, AND THOSE AROUND YOU, WORSE.... that will get some attention. CF may enjoy trims but their rides run safe and odds are cheaper because of this.
  5. I am for all of that. I would love to see actual theming return to the park and Octoberfest and the Festhaus are the perfect place to start because it is an absolute mess. How about some german music/dancing in there as well rather than a country music show. This seems to be one of the best (new) ideas to have been spoken in a long long time. HofBraeuhaus (ae in German is like an umlaut)... The prices would be higher but I am sure that for a nice restraurant people would pay it, or HB could do half servings and that would lower the prices significantly.... that being said they do have many nice German style musicians playing in Newport, very easy to get the idea to KI.....
  6. Oh I understand you didnt write anything I was asking for your intellectual opinion to have a discussion about it as such....... Since I am a bit of a comic nerd in my free time I have been trying to follow the Disney ordeal. It seems to be a good move by Disney to try and get the Little Boys to enjoy Disney since they own the Little Girl segment. Time will tell I suppose but it would be interesting to see how Disney would handle the Marvel characters in their Parks once the licensing is over at the other parks....... Hey I can hope for a picture of me in the middle while The Hulk bench presses Mickey....
  7. Beast I am guessing its more than just saving a few nickles on the insurance that keeps the trims on the rides...... Now if I remember there was always a MCBR on FoF since it started back in the days of Paramount. As I was your age or so when it opened I remember that the ride came to an almost stop at that point ever since it started. Now they may have turned them off at some point and turned it back on but they were there I believe since the begining. Saving money in one area does not allow more money to go to another area. Think of all the parks CederFair owns and how much money it costs to maintain insurance and ride safety...... Again enjoy the rides, as you get older you will realize the safety issues......
  8. Now terp I may be wrong but reading the nytimes blog it seems that the family may not be able to claim the copy-write.... it seems they are doing this to gain their piece of the pie, but it sounds like Marvel may have an opportunity to say that the characters were created for their business and that they own the rights.... With that being said the heirs of Seigel (Superman) are getting a cut from WB and DC..... so many twists and turns
  9. TerP I understand that, thats why I was making my point. Complaining on here about the usefulness or uselessness of trims does not change the way a park operates, for insurance or financial reasons. I am just saying lets enjoy what we have and not complain about the little issues.....
  10. So you are saying the trims serve no point in lowering maintenance costs by slowing the trains down? Or are they pointless to you? You say they they can run with out them, and yes they have done so in the past, but how much work was needed to keep them (the rides) running? Do the rides consider less daily work because of these trims? Has anyone thought that maybe the trims are added this year to see how much work and money could be saved? Possibly as a test run? (and no they dont have to inform the general park that they are doing this---answered the question before it gets asked.... go me)
  11. may i say one thing and i do not mean to start controversy here but here we go...... why complain about a certain ride if we can not do anything about it. If we as a group are so against the current ride on Beast ( I did not make it to the park this year but last year, to me, it felt like the same Beast) then get a petition together and write a letter to the park managers and also ceder fair managers. If we do this maybe they could give us an answer to why the trims have been added to the ride. Realistically the trims seem to be added to save money for the park and also to ensure the ride is around much longer for more guests. (I am sorry for the following statement and mean it not at anyone in general) It seems on this board more people are concerned about their personal rides and have yet reached the maturity level needed to understand business decisions. On this ride or SOB it seems people think it is easy and cheap to keep a ride up and operating, where in reality Ceder Fair is an entertainment company set on trying to be in the black versus the red. If that means they put trims on a ride to have cheaper ride costs, then so be it. If it means my entry fee is slightly lower because of this great. I feel we have all missed the point of going to a park to enjoy the rides as they are. Sometimes we get caught up in blaming someone else or wishing it was something else. Go to the park to enjoy yourself, enjoy a ride on the longest wooden roller coaster, built over 30 years ago. Do not dwell on the negatives it will make your ride much more enjoyable. As time goes more and more things will be added and taken away due to safety concerns or maintenance and one years ride will never match another but dont dwell on it my friends. Enjoy what we have and if you dont like it then dont ride it. Sure feel free to reminiscence about the good ol days but currently we have what we have and only being angry ruins your enjoyment. I am sorry if I have offended anyone and I know I will be attacked for this but for just a moment mature slightly and think that the park is not their for your entertainment only. (This goes for all rides not just Beast) If you have a serious problem find a constructive way to bring the issue to light with management and not just posting on a message board. Thanks for reading and I am sure I will get flamed for this.....
  12. Another place for the video just in case is here also. Yeah seriously I am 23 and if a cable snapped while I was riding a ride and some stuff hit me in the lef I would be screaming horribly..
  13. and this post has not been closed yet.... with someone reporting the ride had movement on it.....
  14. One coaster... Ill let it slide.... it is a dream world.....
  15. I thought this would be a fun adventure to try. Everyone has their favorite and least favorite things about KI. Here is your chance to play park manager (with no budget) make one small change to the park to improve the whole thing. This could be bringing back an old favorite or changing the color of the Eiffel Tower. You only get one change, and the change can not remove another ride to put in a new one (Crypt). Besides that no rules have fun... My one change would be to extend the train ride to Action Zone with a stop in Coney Mall along the way. This would help usher people back and forth, while also allowing future expansion to take advantage of this "People Mover." They may have to add another train to help with station wait, but a 4 stop train ride would be great, River Town to Coney Mall to Action Zone to Water Park..... perfect.... that being said though I have no idea about the terrain but hey they can make bridges.....
  16. I must be in the minority because I have never counted how many times I have ridden a ride...... But by my guestimation and thinking back to the young age of 6 all the way up to now I would think the most I have ever ridden would be beast. Mainly because when I go to the park I have to ride every ride, for no other reason than it completes my KI day, but The Beast would be the ride I would ride first, then on my way to The Vortex, then after lunch, then on the way to the train, then out of the kiddie area.... then of course once more at night......
  17. ok just making sure.... are there still not picnic tables up by the front gate? I believe Bush Gardens had picnic tables in the actual parking lot, the one in virginia, to let people sit and eat
  18. terp i cant tell if you are being rude to me for my thinking or just saying how the park operates....
  19. Well that just means I need to start bringing my pop tent.... the thing with four legs and instant shade... who needs trees.....
  20. well i have to say that in all my time visiting KI (I am 23) I have never left the park to drive to a skyline/mcd/etc. I have however had great picnics with the family in the parking lot. You can save even more money by doing this. (Diamondback pointed out its up to 40-50 in the park, and abotu 20 at McD so I will try to beat that for a family of 5). Loaf of bread = 1.25, 1 pound of turkey 4.99, chesse = 3.00. Case of Coke 2.99 total of a little less than 13 dollars. Of course condiments and extras will cost a bit more but a pound bag of hussmans are about 2.99 so you will still spend about 17 and eat healthier than fast food, even healthier if you exchange pop for water........... I wish their was more shade in the parking lot though.......
  21. yeah seriously think about building a deck .... I would hope they use 6x6 but who knows maybe they saved money by stacking the 2x4s.....
  22. Well it seems that the last few of us have all stated the same thing... however we can guess how much it costs to maintain... the average price of a 2x4 is in the 3 dollar range...... jk
  23. Most think SOB is a beaut'. But sometimes, your eyes deceive you... And then, I personally think the concept for SOB makes the ride look like its the best coaster ever! Its not. a 200 ft drop = best coaster idea of the time....... the rest is up to the rider I guess
  24. Well The Bat and Vortex were both built by Arrow, and if I am correct Arrow did Vortex as a free (or cheap) replacement for their failure on The Bat? So as terp said different time different situation......... Just an FYI those of us who guess and say SOB may be torn down are not doing it in spite or as a personal attack but are guessing (yes guessing) on what Ceder Fair will do. No one knows what they will do but I am certain (100%) that whatever they will do will be for the long term betterment of the park and most importantly their pocket books..... That may be a quick fix with continuous maintenance on SOB, or a complete tear down and build of a ride with less maintenance..... we wont know till they tell us....
