They could make some money, i woud pay extra for a piece of furnurture made from sob wood arnt you afraid that if its a rocking chair it may send you to the hospital?
-
Actually testing would be a way to fix it. You see you cant just fix a ride until you know for sure what is wrong with the ride. It could be that park of the ride has setteled more than the rest causing un-needed stress on the ride= more rough rides. It could be the trains are not great. All good things take time my friends, sit back relax and enjoy the show....

Well someone did die as a result of the injuries suffered while riding SOB..... so technically someone did die because of the ride, pre-existing injuries or not.... I'm fully aware of that.. thus why I said on Son of Beast.. and so did the kid. To most people, general public, to die because of a ride is closely regarded as dieing on the ride. I made this argument before that if you suffer from severe injuries in a car accident and die at the hospital you are dead because of the accident and some will assume you died in the accident..... I guess the difference is that in one case you are DOA (dead on arrival) and DAS (Dead at Scene)..... Hey I am just doing my best to help keep everyone on the up and up Meh, its all semantics. It doesn't change the fact that he said more than 20 people died on it. lol very true..... lol

when I was younger I always thought The Beast was an average coaster and Racer was a little/family coaster. As I have gotten older and matured I have come to terms that Beast was and is bigger than most. So now when I think of the average coaster, the one that gets me pumped for summer would be The Racer, or any woodie. Love the sound, the feel, the bumps, and the nostalgia of the ride..... give me an old fashioned woodie about 100-150 ft high

Take it easy on him? Who called who the jerk? Everyone was being nice until the jerk comment came out. There is enough bashing on here. next time I need to find a "Plant tongue in cheek" button.... (doesnt work but it its the best I can do...)

hey take it easy on the WSYX guy... I know a few people who work there and he may be one of my friends........ plus he works in columbus..... so thats a fun media market to be in

You sure about that? I have friends who have ridden it and want it reopen, and friends who haven't ridden it and are pretty bummed they might not get to, stories and all... A case study isn't going to prove a single point here. We need actual statistical information from a large pool of people. And unfortunately, we aren't going to get it. Ever. Several websites were pointed out that rated it (based on rider comments) around a 7 / 10. Obviously, the people who hate it will disagree with that and point out all the flaws of the census. If we found one that put Son of Beast at around a 2 / 10, the people who liked it would disagree with that and point out all of that poll's flaws. ...... We'll just have to see what's decided. I was pointing out the flaws of the poll not the results of the poll.... Just like I would if there was a poll of 100 people who rated SOB a 2/10...... I do not hate SOB but I recognize that in its current state (when it was running) the ride is more likely to garner negative news than positive.....

I can see where one would think that Scooby has a more suspenseful theme than Charlie, due to the nature of the cartoons. So in very few words Scooby Doo cartoons are scarier than Charlie Brown cartoons, I guess..... To be honest has anyone watched a Charlie Brown cartoon (besides the holiday episodes?) and where I could watch them online? Just figure I should learn more about these characters before they invade our park......

I have said that before that (way back on page like 35 or so) that SOB will be our generation's version of The Bat...... Buckeye Brad, first I have to say O-H, and now that is out of the way you would be very weary of a ride re-design of, using your numbers, 11 million dollars because if the re-design does not work your company is out of that money also. It must be tough to be a park exec because they must balance the check books with peoples perspective of your park...... "I'm not riding Son of Beast. It's not safe". wink.gif (RollerCoaster Tycoon joke) When did rollercoaster tycoon start quoting park guests (I kid, I kid)
-
Shaggy you are right, its hard to erase many people notions of how safe a ride or a park is in general. Heck people have a hard enough time to return to a restaurant if their food was slightly cold and the service was bad, imagine thinking they may die on a ride; that sort of negative reputation is very hard to overcome....

McSalsa thanks for looking up the polls online but as a person who has had to dissect many, many, many polls over the last few years you should take the polls with about as much believability as people saying "I heard a guy get off the ride saying how rough it is." The reason being, is the entire general population does not go home and find a website to vote on their favorite roller coasters. The same issue one made about the fact that only "enthusiasts" are on here, I would argue the same about the polls you used. To use the first poll, the ride is still described as with loop, and the reviewer last reviewed the ride in 2002, prior to many changes SOB would have happen to it over the years. Only 322 people have used this website to review the ride, which takes into account other parts of the ride, including que lines and landscaping. A larger population used on this review would make it more reliable. 322 people over 9 years means they polled 35 people per year (if only 35 people went all year, I feel more people voted in the earlier years) which is less than 1 hour of operation for that ride. Now the themeparkcritic website to have a more true to sense of what the GP thinks it shows a more recent review of the ride, but with that being said only 100 people have reviewed SOB. Again I would feel these reviews would be more "true to the GP" if it was reviewed by a few thousand people. Again though McSalsa great job of taking the time and energy to fine the review web sites.......

cederpointer has a point.... I rode Griffin in Virginia and my thoughts were as such: This ride is going to scare the bejesus out of me, this ride will be fun, this ride looks great....... not once did i think man this ride is going to jerk me from side to side and tear me apart (which it didnt, but it did scare the bejesus out of me.) I feel that the GP along with "enthusiasts," as we are now calling the population who knows about roller coasters, look at a roller coaster and never once think man that ride will be very rough. You may look at a ride and think its made of wood so its not going to be as smooth as other rides in the park, but you never think man this ride is going to destroy my insides like a shake machine on high at a UDF.......... People who rode Flight of Fear never thought there ears would hurt in the ride, similar to the reactions of people who ride Vortex, but with your post one could say "well what do they expect from over the shoulder restraints".....
-
well then thank you for educating me..... I have only been visiting this site since about my freshman year of college which was in 2004.... I joined the site as a member this past summer..... but thank you for the information..... wow shaggy really Madonna?
-
the execs may say "John you have the option of either having SOB redesigned with new trains, or using the capitol to buy music licensing for the park" lol
-
really? So just because I am new to this board, I am not allowed to question his thinking? or the fact that he said the fate is sealed on this ride? Beast I am sorry I have not spent a little less than 20% of my life on these boards, but as an intelligent human being with my own brain and my own thoughts I am allowed to post a questioning statement. I think Shaggy would even agree with me that I was not attacking but merely saying that he, like the rest of us, just do not know yet.... I have always respected Shaggy's opinion (because usually its one of the most constant and down to earth/realistic opinions on these boards. Beastie, no offense, but its called an adult conversation when two sides can discuss an opinion and such. No need to attack anyone in the backwards "to question him....."
-
Shaggy Well put.... yea I didnt really take offense to your post because I enjoyed the ride but feel it is more shame than fame for the park right now. I was just using your post as a reason to respond. Too many people on here throw around ideas that either A. cost too much money/or live in a fantasy world where it can be done, or B. people assume they know whats going on at the park. I agreed with your initial post 222% but I just am not a fan when people throw out words like " As soon as they factor costs for it's removal into an annual budget, it will be demolished." This statement may be true but we do not know yet....... Thats all I was trying to say, just doing my best to help keep people a bit honest in a crazy world....

Shaggy you make some very good points but unless you are a secret board member at Ceder Fair you are no different than the enthusiasts.... you just dont know what the park has planned. You are right maybe the insurance is very high for this ride; the insurer may haave many many second thoughts. But again unless you are an informed person on the inside of Ceder Fair that knows what is going on, you are just making a very educated guess/hypothesis about the future of this ride. I, too, see the future of this ride as being bleak, but then again I am just a dude with a computer so who knows.... that being said if SOB is reopened with or with out a re-design I would be willing to sell my commercial to the park...... edited because its raining and that makes me type weird.....
-
so I know the idea of a ride re-design is almost impossible for a structure this big.... but what if they did reconstruct it.... I thought of the perfect way for an in park tease and theme for the ride..... Here is my mental commercial/tease I created for the re-design of SOB.... 2 safari style men ride in a jeep over a hill, camera pulls out as the jeep crests the hill revealing a moving bush, cut to smiling man. Next scene the two men are talking while comething in a big crate in the back of the jeep is moving around alot, with loud angry roars/screams. Show man's face as his eyes get big and you hear a breaking sound, the men scream and you hear gun shots. Voice Over guy - you thought you had tamed Son of Beast, but he was only luring you in deeper. Next shot a helicopter view of the new re-designed ride (whatever they do to it) VO - Come to Kings Island to experience the tallest wooden coaster in the world, as Son of Beast hurls you through his play pen for an excruciating 3 minutes. If you are lucky enough to survive, you will want to ride it again.... By the way I call dibs and copy write on this idea for a commercial....... any possible use of this idea must be okayed by me..... there I got my little warning in just in case someone thinks its a great idea.... Okay just thinking......

I can not answer for all of us "anti-skeletons", but it appeared to me that the vast majority of us really only had a problem with the "means of death" ones...but I will say that as for the Farrah one, I think it is too soon...next year would have suited me better. I have been fortunate and have only lost one really close relative, my mother...you will find that at the beginning it is hard to laugh at anything connected to that person, over time that goes away and you can joke about things that originally you wouldn't have thought possible...but keep in mind, I still do not mean insulting things...just funny things that the person either did or that you think they would say in a paticular situation. Until you go through a "close" death you can not understand what it is like...even though you think you can. (Sorry if this post turned out depressing! ) Not depressing and I know what you mean by too soon, and some people will only know till a close loved one dies. With that being said I did not want you (anyone) to answer for the group just your opinion.....
-
I know he was cheating on his wife, but some people have been making statements like he deserved what he got for that, or he knew what he was walking into? I'm sorry, but everyone has skeletons in their closets, pun intended, but that doesn't exactly mean that they deserve to die for them. Hey not everyone has skeletons in thier closet Chuck Norris doesnt have skeletons in is closet. Skelentons have Chuck Norris in their closets. Posts like this one make me pull my hair out.... it adds nothing to the discussion...... So here is my question, don't flame me for it, why was the Farrah Fawcett skeleton bad? I understand she died, but she was in her most iconic pose. Sort of similar to the MJ as thriller. Dave Thomas in his Wendy's gear, again I am okay with the same thing Heath Ledger dressed as the joker (just remove the pill bottles). Are you guys, who are anti-skeletons, against the skeletons being placed or the skeletons being placed while incorporating their tragic way of dying into the scene? I for one am all for placing skeletons in a celebrity grave yard, if its done tastefully -Patrick Swaze at a pottery wheel, Farrah Fawcett in a red swim suit, MJ in his thriller or bad dance suit, Billy Mays selling a product, Steve McNair wearing his jersey throwing a football.......

the more rides open the better....... and by saying this topic has 0 pages of useful information is an insult to everyone who has attempted to offer up information or discussions about this current situation. I would say that the information discussing previous incidents on this ride is important. Current events happening around SOB is also very important. Coaster Kid be very careful when you make assumptions about anything because most times a quick off the cuff remark can be regretted later. That being said back to SOB........

wow great pictures thanks for bringing back the memories. Yes I believe from reading up on the animal safari thing, it was removed due to costs. Now the Dolphin show was removed because of the marine animal protection act. Don Helbig mentions it during his many interviews with WCET... but either way great way to remember ki

And I believe they've done stuff like that in the past. I believe they had a scene one year (or multiple years) that showed skeletons playing football and I believe one of the ones on the bench was Chad Johnson (had an 85 jersey). I mean, that's just a funny scene of skeletons acting like football players. It's not portraying an actual event. would it be wrong though if they had a skeleton on the field with a bills jersey? (Kevin Everett)
