  1. yeah seriously think about building a deck .... I would hope they use 6x6 but who knows maybe they saved money by stacking the 2x4s.....
  2. Well it seems that the last few of us have all stated the same thing... however we can guess how much it costs to maintain... the average price of a 2x4 is in the 3 dollar range...... jk
  3. Most think SOB is a beaut'. But sometimes, your eyes deceive you... And then, I personally think the concept for SOB makes the ride look like its the best coaster ever! Its not. a 200 ft drop = best coaster idea of the time....... the rest is up to the rider I guess
  4. Well The Bat and Vortex were both built by Arrow, and if I am correct Arrow did Vortex as a free (or cheap) replacement for their failure on The Bat? So as terp said different time different situation......... Just an FYI those of us who guess and say SOB may be torn down are not doing it in spite or as a personal attack but are guessing (yes guessing) on what Ceder Fair will do. No one knows what they will do but I am certain (100%) that whatever they will do will be for the long term betterment of the park and most importantly their pocket books..... That may be a quick fix with continuous maintenance on SOB, or a complete tear down and build of a ride with less maintenance..... we wont know till they tell us....
  5. so did he bail when he noticed it is built to sort of look like a balsa wood bridge?
  6. side note for everyone..... did anyone know SOB had Werner Stengel working on it.... the "roller coaster guy", like the dude who did most of the record breaking coasters, responsible for colossus? Just found that fun and odd....... why does SOB have issues but Colossus does not?
  7. two oberservations..... could our FoF have the MCBR because it was originally intended to run with 4 trains?? And maybe slight modifications were made between 96 (the year FoF opened) and 2001 (Joker Opened).... just an idea..... no truth to my statements
  8. well to be truthful lines are not very truthful about the popularity of a ride. So by your judgment when I go to the park The Beast almost has no line so that means no one likes The Beast..... until about 4 or 5 in the afternoon...... Plus why is it Adventure Express has a long line (sometimes 45 mins) and other days its a walk on...... Same with FOF.... Lines mean nothing about a ride..... people wont ride a ride they hate but they will ride a ride because its there..... Vortex has days where the line is 2 hours... others its a station wait......
  9. But is it their responsibility to do something about a ride that injures people on a regular basis? People aren't going to think "Oh, look at that wooden coaster. It'll probably hurt me, but I'll ride it anyway.", they think "That looks fun!" or "That looks scary!". Nobody goes on a rollercoaster expecting for it to hurt, except Ninja at SFOG. Cedarpointer I was using that in the metaphor of a gun..... not a ride. Thats why I was saying using a gun metaphor would be a mistake when talking about a ride, because you are allowed to own a gun and if it hurts you its your own fault. SOB is not a gun.... Not trying to start an argument but I just don't like parts of what I say to be construed to shape an argument for or against SOB
  10. Beast I wish you wouldnt have said that..... My young friend, I think we both are on the same side of the SOB discussion, but the gun metaphor is always a bad one sided argument. It is not KI (or anyone Else's) job to keep you from hurting yourself. They are not supplying the gun anymore than they are when they serve french fries or elephant ears in the park. People know deep fried foods can lead to heart issues, but its not the parks problem to monitor your intake. So sadly its not the parks job to keep you from injuring your self..... Now back to not using Metaphors....... SOB is not a gun but is still hurting (or did hurt) people in the past. It has gained a negative reputation, along with rising costs to keep fixing the ride..... whatever happens to SOB will be to the benefit of the park's bottom line.....
  11. You may feel different if you did ride it... Well, I know that, but I still wanted to say I rode it. Also, my niece loves it and says it isn't too rough, and my sister rides it, but not if she is already in any kind of pain. The Beast does run three trains (under normal circumstances). I thought it was 27 people? We both were wrong... as quoted from Cincy Enquirer "The latest closure is its second-longest. In 2006-07, the ride remained closed for nearly a year after 28 people were injured in an accident. The ride was reconfigured and its signature loop was removed." Either way..... bad rep
  12. well the ride wasnt too rough in the beginning years, but recently (last year) it seems to have gotten rougher with age, changing of the cars. The first years was great. Not too rough, looping and great. But recently its not too rough its over rough..... It be like buying a ferrari with a bent frame. A great car but just too much work at high speeds.....
  13. israel if you mean the first few years of SOB, with the loop I agree with you, but if you speak of the recent years of SOB, then sadly I can not agree with you.
  14. Well here are my thoughts, I have not posted on this topic in a while, but I think the line issue could be because SOB only runs two trains and correct me if I am wrong, Beast runs 3?. That aside I think someone mentioned it before, SOB was wild and it felt like you survived it, and many people loved surviving that ride. SOB was one ride I would ride once a season, to just say I rode it (thinking if it was its last year I didnt miss out on its last rides) from the beginning. Those of us who rode it with the loop understood that getting through the harsh vibrations would be paid off with the loop. Sadly though I think SOB days are numbered and here are my opinions based on nothing than public opinion and my opinions. 1. bad reputation - the ride has never had a good reputation since "the incident" (cracked support 26 people go to hospital) 2. Most park goers want to enjoy a ride - People enjoy being shaken up but not beaten and bruised 3. Park attendance has not slipped since it has been closed. (pure speculation but last season park attendance rose 3 percent and with more "staycations" people travel closer to home to save money) 4. The park would have spoken by now. - this part comes down to if you see the glass half empty or half full. If the park knew that the ride would be reopened they most likely would have said something or did something. The ride did pass certification if I am correct. On the other side the park may be considering options and all we can do is argue and guess with each other. Overall I think this was a great ride that had its time at KI. I think this ride may be our generations (those in the 20-30 range) "Bat" a ride that was great but had some design flaws, yes I understand the difference in the flaws but I mean it as a ride which was a step before its time that ended with a lot of people still enjoying the ride. The only thing I wish I would have done was buy more SOB merchandise.
  15. yeah i think mine was The Beastie also......... but it felt great to get to ride the real beast......
  16. I think one of the coolest was getting off and looking at the security monitors.... I have never ridden Scooby Doo, should i ride it before its removed for good?
  17. Hey KICers, I hope this is the place to post something like this and if not I am sure I will be told about it.... either way I found this video on one of the websites I always visit and it shows a kid on his first coaster. I figured you all would enjoy watching it as we have all been there. The wonderment of the first hill, the fear of the first drop, the excitement of the turns and then when the brakes hit we all want to ride again. Please watch and enjoy, I am not the owner of the video and again do not know the people in the video but either way its a good memory spark. Enjoy and feel free to share your first roller coaster moments.
  18. what do you mean asking for it ? i've rode Son of Beast mulitiple times in the very back and didn't experience anything rougher than what you experience in the back seat of The Beast. and cedarpointer, no one died on Son of Beast, that would require them to be setting in the train at the time of death, they died the next day. Coasterjunkie, with your logic that would be very few people ever died anywhere. The lady who fell out of Space Commander died when she hit the ground, not because she fell out of the ride. Blunt Force trauma caused the injuries that lead to his death on SOB. Apply the logic of this. You hit a person while they are walking across the street. They later die in the hospital due to blunt force trauma caused by the car accident. They die two days later. They still died from the car accident.
  19. I understand that its cheaper for the park to have snoopy, and I am okay with it, kids will get over it, may not be happy and may ask a lot of questions from their parents but they will get over it. My only comment is this directed at the people who think kids will love the peanuts characters like they did growing up. Kids will not love them like they do the characters on nick. Its an easy reason for this, and thats because they are exposed to Nick characters constantly, Snoopy and the gang are not shown and kids will not flock to get a picture with Charlie, but Snoopy is not frightening as much. You know what dog I would love to see at a park though is Droopy. So side question.... does this mean The Beastie, will it be returning as a name or will it go to the same name graveyard as The Scooby Doo?
  20. Sadly SmurfRide, it was written by a television station, and most write stories to either be read or get the notes on paper. Depending on the news organization, some times they just post the scripts that were used on tv. (I use to work on tv so I have seen things like this)
  21. http://www.newsnet5.com/entertainment/20750219/detail.html well at least when the hannah barbara land was in the park the cartoons were being regularly played on a station..... not starting a fight just saying
  22. the blunt force trauma was not a pre-existing injury. I posted about this back a few pages (maybe around page 20 or so.) The preconditioned reason was because the guy was over weight. The blunt force trauma injuries can cause internal damage to organs inside the body. "A 30-year-old man from Mississippi died the day after he rode the Son of Beast. The Hamilton County Coroner determined he had died from hemorrhagic shock and blunt impact to the torso. Ronald Jones had several pre-existing health conditions and should have never taken a ride, the investigation determined. He had a protein S deficiency, neurofibrosis and was morbidly obese, according to the chief deputy coroner." read about it here I included links to what protein deficiencies are, along with neurofibrosis, and an original link to the story
  23. well times are a changing.... Again I am probably beating a dead horse, but the only problem with this is that Peanuts are not ACTIVELY being shown to the youth.... Kids areas are for kids... but it will be great fun to see a brand new area... I am excited...
  24. correct me if I am wrong but just because Nick is leaving doesnt mean Scooby is gone too...... did we read this somewhere or are we all loosing our minds?
  25. so does Goofy ever take Pluto out for a walk?
