so I know the idea of a ride re-design is almost impossible for a structure this big.... but what if they did reconstruct it.... I thought of the perfect way for an in park tease and theme for the ride..... Here is my mental commercial/tease I created for the re-design of SOB.... 2 safari style men ride in a jeep over a hill, camera pulls out as the jeep crests the hill revealing a moving bush, cut to smiling man. Next scene the two men are talking while comething in a big crate in the back of the jeep is moving around alot, with loud angry roars/screams. Show man's face as his eyes get big and you hear a breaking sound, the men scream and you hear gun shots. Voice Over guy - you thought you had tamed Son of Beast, but he was only luring you in deeper. Next shot a helicopter view of the new re-designed ride (whatever they do to it) VO - Come to Kings Island to experience the tallest wooden coaster in the world, as Son of Beast hurls you through his play pen for an excruciating 3 minutes. If you are lucky enough to survive, you will want to ride it again.... By the way I call dibs and copy write on this idea for a commercial....... any possible use of this idea must be okayed by me..... there I got my little warning in just in case someone thinks its a great idea.... Okay just thinking......

I can not answer for all of us "anti-skeletons", but it appeared to me that the vast majority of us really only had a problem with the "means of death" ones...but I will say that as for the Farrah one, I think it is too soon...next year would have suited me better. I have been fortunate and have only lost one really close relative, my mother...you will find that at the beginning it is hard to laugh at anything connected to that person, over time that goes away and you can joke about things that originally you wouldn't have thought possible...but keep in mind, I still do not mean insulting things...just funny things that the person either did or that you think they would say in a paticular situation. Until you go through a "close" death you can not understand what it is like...even though you think you can. (Sorry if this post turned out depressing! ) Not depressing and I know what you mean by too soon, and some people will only know till a close loved one dies. With that being said I did not want you (anyone) to answer for the group just your opinion.....
-
I know he was cheating on his wife, but some people have been making statements like he deserved what he got for that, or he knew what he was walking into? I'm sorry, but everyone has skeletons in their closets, pun intended, but that doesn't exactly mean that they deserve to die for them. Hey not everyone has skeletons in thier closet Chuck Norris doesnt have skeletons in is closet. Skelentons have Chuck Norris in their closets. Posts like this one make me pull my hair out.... it adds nothing to the discussion...... So here is my question, don't flame me for it, why was the Farrah Fawcett skeleton bad? I understand she died, but she was in her most iconic pose. Sort of similar to the MJ as thriller. Dave Thomas in his Wendy's gear, again I am okay with the same thing Heath Ledger dressed as the joker (just remove the pill bottles). Are you guys, who are anti-skeletons, against the skeletons being placed or the skeletons being placed while incorporating their tragic way of dying into the scene? I for one am all for placing skeletons in a celebrity grave yard, if its done tastefully -Patrick Swaze at a pottery wheel, Farrah Fawcett in a red swim suit, MJ in his thriller or bad dance suit, Billy Mays selling a product, Steve McNair wearing his jersey throwing a football.......

the more rides open the better....... and by saying this topic has 0 pages of useful information is an insult to everyone who has attempted to offer up information or discussions about this current situation. I would say that the information discussing previous incidents on this ride is important. Current events happening around SOB is also very important. Coaster Kid be very careful when you make assumptions about anything because most times a quick off the cuff remark can be regretted later. That being said back to SOB........

wow great pictures thanks for bringing back the memories. Yes I believe from reading up on the animal safari thing, it was removed due to costs. Now the Dolphin show was removed because of the marine animal protection act. Don Helbig mentions it during his many interviews with WCET... but either way great way to remember ki

And I believe they've done stuff like that in the past. I believe they had a scene one year (or multiple years) that showed skeletons playing football and I believe one of the ones on the bench was Chad Johnson (had an 85 jersey). I mean, that's just a funny scene of skeletons acting like football players. It's not portraying an actual event. would it be wrong though if they had a skeleton on the field with a bills jersey? (Kevin Everett)

no one would be upset if they had a Ben Rothlisberger skeleton laying out there.... just saying its all relative. And if they had the Orchestra guy who died dressed in a skeleton then I am okay with it....... the olny part that crossed the line was showing the way they died.... Dave Thomas skeleton in a wendy's uniform was funny......
-
to be truthful I say this is "much ado about nothing...." I may not agree with most people on here but look the skeletons were put up for a slight laugh. I agree with this, its suppose to be fun, scary, and enjoyable. KI most likely crossed the line with the gun and pill bottles (because it is too soon) but taking out all of the celebrities is just KI trying to be too safe. The thing is if you dont like something dont view it, ride it, or walk through it. Just my humble opinion.....

I will stick to my thought that the park will do whatever is financially better for the park.... with that being said those new coaster cars do look like they could improve the roughness of the ride on sob...... but that still does not fix the other issues with the ride.........
-
totally agree I read that I believe it was the Mass. incident no one checked the rider in the front.... with that being said I understand some rides dont need to operate with OTSRs..... even a little added safety cant hurt right?.....
-
I did some quick reading about those three incidents and wow... makes me sort of like the Over the shoulder restraints....... Now terp I just assume you know what you are talking about so here is a question....... why dont more rides have straps, sort of like soft OTSR? wouldnt it help keep more people in the train? and what is different than the lap bars on diamond back?
-
why exactly did they add the wood? did they have an incident where a person leg came loose during a ride or was it more actively protecting an incident....
-
so here is a random question about the block of wood that was added...... did they screw in a 2x4 into the floor... or was it more like a sheet of wood added?
-
you know i actually enjoyed the old trains. I know they clamped down on the ankles (Am i right on that one?).... but the ride was enjoyable. A little rough but not too bad. I feel, IMHO, that the rides got rougher when the trains were changed.... again though just a personal opinion..... To be honest I enjoy a tight squeeze into a roller coaster. I like when the lap bar is tight because I feel like I dont have to hold on as tightly......... weird I know....

Terp you have become cooler in my book because you listen to NPR....

I am a comic nerd and I have been following this on the Marvel board and insiders are saying its really an issue in Orlando. From the article I took it that Universal has no rights on parks in Cali........ But I am not sure what it means for the big names...... With all that being said I am just a KI fan and a comic nerd so..... I have no insider information so I have just opinions
-
So I found more info on this. Here is an article with some "inside information" and details about it. But basically it says this: Supposedly Universal can use any character they have already used in a ride forever, ie Spiderman Hulk, Storm, Etc. The walk around characters are in danger of leaving Universal for good, and because of the language of the contract, if Universal does something with the characters Marvel does not like then Marvel can pull the contract for good. Universal has already given up the rights for Marvel characters west of the Mississippi. So this will be very interesting to watch over the next couple of years......

I hope I didn't come across as complaining ... trims are the arch enemy of any coaster enthusiast, but they are reality. Trims save us all money, albeit in an indirect sort of way. Not only do they make our beloved rides safer, but they cut down a bit on off-season maintenance. As a wise man once said (love ya Terpy), it's all about the Nickels. Saving a few Nickels on coaster maintenance is a good thing. That translates into a (somewhat) cheaper season for us. As infuriating as it can be, trim brake debate is a good thing. Look at it this way ... if we're all yelling about trims, and that is our most upsetting concern, we're in pretty good shape! P.S. I hate trims. Very true if trims are the only thing we can argue about we are doing a great thing. I never claimed to enjoy or love trims I just think of them like a necessary evil, sort of like Rap music.... (JK I worked as a dj for a few years before going back to school and hated that stuff)

Hey guys, First I want to apologize for earlier if I seemed like a straight up d..... I have been studying hard for a few test and came on here to blow off steam by reading about my favorite park, and I just saw people complaining and went off...... So again sorry. Now here is my thought, if they did turn off the MCBR it means the ride is run with it because of maintenance? just an idea
-
money comes from the same pot but if you have ever worked at a business each area is given a budget. So the LCD and the maintenance areas get an annual budget they have to stay with in from the parent company...... This battle of trims versus no trims seems to be split down the middle based on life experiences..... Take a deep breath......... its going to be okay..... and if you dont like trims great good for you build your own park, not in roller coaster tycoon, and figure the costs out from there.....

now before I get too much into an argument with people... are we both talking about the same point when FoF stops... about mid way through before it turns left..... beast rider it was not an attack on being older and wiser but being mature... maturity happens at different points. Some rides are not designed to run the way they do but because of design flaws or miscalculations have to be changed. It happens all the time. Its not to cut back the fun. By your argument SOB was designed to have the loop and use heavy trains but we saw what happened to that right when it was run the way it was designed. My main point of argument was this, and I will use caps so the skimmers will see this park.... BE MATURE AND ENJOY THE RIDES WE HAVE. COMPLAINING DOES NOTHING BUT MAKE YOUR RIDE, AND THOSE AROUND YOU, WORSE.... that will get some attention. CF may enjoy trims but their rides run safe and odds are cheaper because of this.

I am for all of that. I would love to see actual theming return to the park and Octoberfest and the Festhaus are the perfect place to start because it is an absolute mess. How about some german music/dancing in there as well rather than a country music show. This seems to be one of the best (new) ideas to have been spoken in a long long time. HofBraeuhaus (ae in German is like an umlaut)... The prices would be higher but I am sure that for a nice restraurant people would pay it, or HB could do half servings and that would lower the prices significantly.... that being said they do have many nice German style musicians playing in Newport, very easy to get the idea to KI.....

Oh I understand you didnt write anything I was asking for your intellectual opinion to have a discussion about it as such....... Since I am a bit of a comic nerd in my free time I have been trying to follow the Disney ordeal. It seems to be a good move by Disney to try and get the Little Boys to enjoy Disney since they own the Little Girl segment. Time will tell I suppose but it would be interesting to see how Disney would handle the Marvel characters in their Parks once the licensing is over at the other parks....... Hey I can hope for a picture of me in the middle while The Hulk bench presses Mickey....
