There's a good chance of showers & thunderstorms, but they should be scattered. Such weather often makes for a good time to visit, since it keeps crowds low. Hopefully everything clears up by late evening.
-
^^^ I'd allow 20-30 minutes just to get out of the parking lot at 22:30.

Favorite ride at Cedar Point.

^ Your iPod is not Terp's. Assuming Terp is also using an iOS device, the problem is probably related to the font cache. He could probably fix that problem by rebooting, unless someone loaded a corrupt copy of Comic Sans onto his device. But since Comic Sans shouldn't be used anywhere, this shouldn't have to be a problem for Terp. -
But you'd know the answers by then; that would be cheating. If there's a member who will be at the park both Thursday and the day that you're coming, I could leave an extra tag with that person.
-
^^ I've met Oldiesmann at the park; I didn't know you two were siblings. As for names and guesses, you'll have to Sharpie® them in.
-
Happy? Anything else that shouldn't have been left off? I'll print them if there's enough interest, as long as I can get name badges through the printer without them jamming. If you're interested and will be at KI on Thursday, let me know so I can get an approximate count. That's not going to happen.

Who wants a name sticker on Thursday? (Last chance to decode!)
-
After it spawned about 2 pages of "decoding", they took it down. They were apparently poking fun at Cedar Point's error from last year, (mis)leading enthusiasts in the process. The height of 199ft on the fake "2014" page would make me guess that the actual ride is over 200ft, for the simple reason that managing expectations is a critical part of PR. You want to under-promise and over-deliver. Not that I'd trust this department to adhere to any "rules" of PR when messing with enthusiasts.

^ I always set at least two alarms for that very reason. As for texting, I highly doubt that I could draw my phone unlock pattern while sleeping. (Another benefit of keeping your phone locked!)
-
^ He and homestar92 did manage to get on Vortex at the same time as us, though. They used a front-of-the-line pass to skip the ~10 minute line, after using another front-of-the-line pass to skip Flight of Fear's obnoxiously long line.

And it's Cedar Fair. A Cedar Fair employee once used "cedar fail" in an e-mail sent to me. My guess: bad auto-correction.
-
I sometimes dream that I'm reading e-mail, browsing the web, or even chatting on IRC. Lucky for me, I don't sleep type. I had quite the nightmare last night: endless pages of the "Decoding" thread on this forum. One reply was shocking enough to wake me up suddenly, making it a rare dream I can actually recall. And no, I'm not posting the details. Good job Don; you've created so much hype that it's haunting me in my sleep.

Some default classnames got added to elements on the site. These don't appear on the real Gatekeeper or Gold Striker pages. Also, there were a few style attributes added that are characteristic of a WYSIWYG editor, that don't appear on other Cedar Fair sites.
-
Upon further examination of the site, I agree with you. Rob Decker even said during Gatekeeper's announcement that they liked the response they got from that "error". Some evidence: The orange background of the page, named BAT-31.jpg, is a photoshopped copy of Gatekeeper's page's background, complete with Gatekeeper's rendering. Examining the page source, it was modified with a WYSIWYG editor. Other Cedar Fair sites have not been. (cross-threading!) From a generic ride page, the only things changed are a few images, some of the placeholder text, and the orange-ified Gatekeeper background. Again, with a WYSIWYG editor. There's no way this is related to the real site which will presumably launch Thursday night. Cedar Fair is more professional than that.
-
I don't know about any of you, but I'm looking forward to Thursday night now more than ever.

Anymore, I don't eat Cincinnati-style chili unless I've made it myself from scratch using lean meat. All the grease in Skyline/Gold Star doesn't sit well with me, and I don't care for excessive salt and MSG. When you make it yourself, you can use just enough for it to taste right. By the time you add cheese to make it a 3-way, most of the added MSG in Skyline is redundant.

I'm with thedevariouseffect. The logo certainly looks real, but most of the text and all of the photos/renderings were placeholders. The purported opening date was "April 27, 2014" - a Sunday. The few ride details ("tallest wing coaster", etc) shown are likely to be placeholders as well. Sites like this get designed months in advance, often before final copy is available. We'll find out what "The Bat" - or whatever name is being resurrected - is on Thursday. Clearly, this incomplete site should never have been pushed to a production web server. (Surely Cedar Fair would know by now that there are enthusiasts somewhere reloading URLs like visitkingsisland.com/2014 and visitkingsisland.com/Banshee every 20 minutes...)

For a discussion about who's coming, see the meet-up thread: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/27900-aug-8-announcement-meet-up The chili wars aren't exactly new here. The most recent threads dedicated to them, for everyone's reference: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/25715-what-chili-restaurant-do-you-prefer http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/14307-skyline-v-gold-star

Folding chairs just wouldn't cut it for mourning O'Terpy and O'Suhr. Pews are more respectful.

Candy: Any combination of chocolate and nuts. Dessert: Gelato (Italian ice cream) See also this thread from last Halloween: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/26540-favorite-and-least-favorite-halloween-candy/

If any of your photos were taken from an area you weren't authorized to be at, those should be removed from this forum ASAP. A parking lot marked as a "visitor lot" certainly doesn't authorize walking about the premises. Even entering the visitor lot without a reason to be there is disruptive and could be considered trespassing. Especially if you drive into it when you know the facility is closed. Please, let's respect the park and its suppliers. Stay out of all private property owned by Clermont Steel Fabricators.

I'm really sorry, Jonathan, but you did ask.

^^ Hey, it was the best I could come up with on short notice. Plus, when you're not on a ride, the entire mess tucks into the pocket and out of sight. (I haven't actually used that office supply mishmash since finding a decent pair of shorts with secure pockets.)
-
My method for dealing with velcro pockets involves two rubber bands (for redundancy) and one binder clip: Everything I carry with me is secured with a button, a zipper, or the office supply contraption above.
