Head over to the meet-ups forum for information on that; we'd be glad to see you there! https://kicentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/33228-closing-day-2017-meet-up-october-29th Indeed Terpy isn't active on KIC these days, though he does care deeply about the industry and about the community here. If he offended you, I'm sure it wasn't intentional.

It looks like we are, indeed, in for a cold weekend. The current highs on Saturday and Sunday are 51° and 49°, respectively, according to the National Weather Service. Vortex, The Bat and Adventure Express have the highest minimum operating temperature of the coasters, needing it to be at least 45° to start operating. Those might not open right away (or at all, if it stays below that threshold). The coldest day I've ever visited the park was November 1, 2014, when the afternoon high was approximately 36°. The Beast, The Racer & Woodstock Express were open all day, even when it dipped to 27° late that night. The steel coasters were indeed closed that day. Luckily, this Sunday looks to be a tad warmer than that. The free Fast Lane Plus was valid any Sunday this fall, so I wouldn't expect the park to add another day to use it. KI will be open on Sunday, so you can still come and use it if you don't mind the chilly temperatures. You might see some of us if you go that day; we always do a big KIC "Closing Day" meetup on the last day of the fall season.

^ It was 37° that morning when the ride started. Cold indeed.

^ Those memos refer to changes in the property's value from newly constructed (or deconstructed) buildings. They're careful not to mention by name projects that have yet to be announced. The 'Harbor House' mentioned there is the existing Island Smokehouse, which is similar in design to the Carolina Harbor restaurant.

Welcome to KIC, by the way! I haven't heard anything about this year's restrictions on comp tickets. Since we're a fan forum not affiliated with KI, it's better to ask questions about your employment through the park directly. HR would have the most up-to-date information.

If you use it on Sunday, you should be able to pick up your wristband at the Fast Lane booth or the adjacent Help Center. There's usually a rush to redeem them when gates open, so I'd recommend getting there early. All the coasters except The Bat have a Fast Lane/Fast Lane Plus entrance. They're generally located near the ride entrance, except on Flight of Fear, The Beast, Vortex and Adventure Express - where they're closer to the ride exit.
-
You wouldn't be able to redeem it tomorrow (Saturday), as the free Fast Lane Plus and bring-a-friend ticket for renewing are valid only on fall Sundays.

I rode a Rotor once as a kid. Although it was fun, I don't think I'd do it again unless I was confident that everyone riding with me had a strong stomach.

Making the Case for Outsourcing Cedar Fair’s Food and Beverages
malem replied to Oldschool75's topic in Kings Island
I haven't seen the same food trucks both inside and outside the park, but the prices at in-park food trucks seem pretty comparable to what you'd pay on the street. While outsourcing food service entirely is very unlikely, expanded use of food trucks seems like a win for everyone. They're an easy source of revenue for the parks, and guests enjoy an expanded food selection with shorter lines. For those without dining plans or season pass discounts, they can be a much better value than park-operated locations. By the way, I highly recommend the bourbon brownies from the Firehouse Grilling food truck, which as been at Cedar Point much of this season. -
Six Flags and Apollo interested in SeaWorld

^ Parques Reunidos owns Palace Entertainment (which owns Kennywood), and it has itself experienced recent financial difficulties. I don't see how that combination could be good for either company. -
You mean Mystic Red?

If we print shirts, we want to make sure it's a quality product (eg. silk screened) with a very reasonable cost. Ideas like a choice of shirt colors will probably be easier than customizing the print itself. Definitely keep the suggestions coming! ^ Thanks a lot for the offer! KIC has some contacts who have helped us out before with screen printing, so you probably don't need to reach out to your friend. (We're always open to ideas of course! Feel free to send a PM to Brad, Dane, Robbie and/or I if you want to link us up with someone in particular.)

The drink plan is good all season long - for unlimited Coca-Cola soft drinks. Hot beverages are a different product.

A goal of modern demolition is to recycle as much as possible. It's easier to recover some materials from a standing building than from a heap of rubble.

The Joys Of Public Play Water
malem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The CDC released a report last month on employees and guests who were sickened at an Ohio indoor waterpark. The park in the report is not named, but the timing (2015 through early 2016) and circumstances (lack of working ventilation) are similar to the Fort Rapids incident. Disinfection byproducts were able to build up in the building and cause numerous symptoms. The park was advised to fix the HVAC system and encourage swimmers to shower and "take regular bathroom breaks" (i.e. not to urinate in the pool). https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/21/16345862/ohio-water-park-cdc-pee-chloramines-chlorine-eyes-lungs-irritation-mmwr -
^ Interpretation and speculation is most welcome here, but implying that you have "inside" information without revealing your source is, indeed, against the TOS. Please avoid doing that. Rumors about a new restaurant have been swirling around for awhile now - at the park, on KIC, and elsewhere online. It's certainly fair game to discuss the rumors on the forum; just be careful if you happen to have non-public information.

Six Flags and Apollo interested in SeaWorld

Merlin Entertainments (Legoland, Alton Towers, et al) is reportedly interested in a deal with SEAS for the Busch Gardens parks: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-10-04/legoland-owner-merlin-is-said-to-approach-seaworld-about-deal -
It looks like you accidentally posted this 4 times in different subforums; I removed the duplicate threads. I'm a big fan of historical parks, so I might say Knoebel's if I had to name a best park. For wood and steel, El Toro and Wicked Cyclone, with the latter likely to be replaced by Steel Vengeance. I sadly didn't ride Flight Commander or Son of Beast. The roughest wooden coaster ride I've taken was a ride in the back row of Mean Streak in the 2014 season. I don't rank worst rides, but there's not much to like about Apocalypse: The Last Stand at Six Flags America (formerly Iron Wolf at SFGAm). That ride has plenty of headbanging, and I didn't find it very thrilling. Hurler (at Carowinds and formerly King Dominion) would be one of my least favorite woodens. It's rough, and the layout provides little in the way of airtime, laterals, or anything else fun. Twisted Timbers looks to be a great addition, though!

^ I was there all night; I'm surprised we never saw you! I got in line at 7:48pm and was about 1/3 switchback from the back of the tent. They let people walk back starting at 8:00pm, and we were at the front of the line just after 8:20pm.
-
Yesterday, the wait behind a full tent at Field of Screams was about 20-25 minutes after the maze opened at 8:00. Since it's hard to know how full the queue is after it opens, getting in line beforehand is a great idea.
-
Kings Island could use more thrilling flat rides, but this certainly isn't what I was expecting. I guess we'll have to wait to find out whether it's a hint or a red herring. Setting expectations early might lessen the social media disappointment when the follow-up to Mystic Timbers is announced, and it's not a giga.

I know you know; I was just making it clear for those new to the site who might decide to stop by Batavia.
