  1. I have watched dead ash trees get cut down and have yet to see any shatter. The situation becomes more dangerous the longer a dead tree is left standing. The vast majority of the trees in the Beast woods that were removed were either dead or were ash trees that were likely to die in the future. A boom lift sitting next to the ride looks more like maintenance than construction to me.
  2. ^^ The season drink plan is only good for soft drinks, but there are plenty of options other than soda. I really like the blueberry pomegranate Vitaminwater that's at the Coney BBQ fountain. ^ The dining plan prices are currently the same price online and at the park. The online processing fee is $0.99 for orders that only contain food voucher(s). Since you're going to the park right now, I would recommend buying it there so they can make sure it gets added to your pass immediately.
  3. Hours at each location vary, but the restaurants on International Street generally stay open until the park closes. Festhaus and Reds Hall of Fame Grille usually close an hour before the park does.
  4. ^ Try logging out and then logging back in with Tapatalk. This worked the last time people were experiencing a similar issue.
  5. I would avoid the hotels at the Kings Dominion exit. There are better hotels for less a short drive away. Personally, I've had good stays at both of the Comfort Suites hotels on the north side of Richmond and at the Sleep Inn on E Parham Rd in Richmond. These locations are a relatively easy drive to KD, and I've usually found good deals.
  6. Personal mobility devices are allowed into the park, though there may be safety restrictions in certain areas. A frequent guest of Cedar Point, affectionately known among enthusiasts as Mr. Segway, is known to use one to get around the park. Echoing teenageninja, definitely call in advance and stop at Guest Services upon arrival. Segways used for recreation wouldn't be allowed into the park.
  7. Newly acquired parks and a large debt had a way of changing priorities at post-2006 Cedar Fair.
  8. It's not just posted warnings; see also the clause about behaving in any manner which may contribute to the injury of oneself or others.
  9. Competition is good, but overbuilding Geauga Lake was decidedly not awesome. It was a big factor in the Six Flags bankruptcy and the eventual demise of that park.
  10. That was indeed an error with the KIC-hosted image caching server, which I just fixed. Thanks for the heads up!
  11. The law in question is ORC 1711.551. Riders are required both to follow posted directions and to not act in any manner that could cause injury. http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/1711.551 Are riders routinely cited? No, but it would depend on the circumstances, whether it was a repeat offense, and the behavior of the individual guest. However, if a guest's camera or loose article would injure another guest, a criminal citation (in addition to park penalties and possible civil lawsuits) would be extremely likely.
  12. Blue Racer was early on Saturday, though it didn't stay open all day with the very light crowds. It did indeed receive track work over the off-season; I noticed a lot of new wood after the turn-around on Red Racer. When combined with new track it received prior to last season, it's a substantial improvement. Great to see maintenance taking care of it year after year!
  13. The taste more resembles a homemade recipe than typical mac & cheese found at restaurants. I really liked it, though my serving was a bit too dry and could have used more cheese. It's much harder to deliver a consistent product when you're using ingredients (eg. natural cheese) that don't mix together easily, especially in the quantities demanded in a theme park setting. Everything else I got was exceptional. The smoked tri-tip is currently my favorite entrée; the generous portion I received was tender and well-seasoned, and it was obvious from the color that it had been smoked a long time. My favorite side was the baked beans, which are flavored with Coney BBQ pulled pork - very nice if you're ordering a different entrée. I really like having "real" mac & cheese at the park, so I hope they get the procedure for that perfected!
  14. The "no photography" rule is posted on the safety information sign outside each ride, which riders are bound to by Ohio Revised Code.
  15. On The Beast last night, my train was stopped on the lift so that the crew could confiscate a camera. Great to see this rule being strictly enforced!
  16. Though there's a chance of rain throughout the day Saturday, a washout doesn't look very likely according to the NWS forecast. You might save more time from storm chances keeping crowds away than you lose from any ride downtime due to weather.
  17. The block safety system did kick in on The Smiler. The trains collided because an employee working on the ride overrode it, mistakenly assuming that the block was clear.
  18. The park sometimes has coaster clubs cross-check the event registration list with their member rolls, so as to speed up check-in. I suspect that this will be the case at least with Pre-Check. Joining sooner rather than later would be a good idea, lest you get delayed at check-in or miss out because your membership card didn't arrive in time.
  19. For me, getting plenty of sleep also helps. When visiting Cedar Point on no sleep, I find that I gray out for a few seconds at the bottom of the first hill. I wouldn't want to ride I305 after staying up all night.
  20. This may have been a problem with the editor. You correctly uploaded the picture when editing your signature, but it didn't actually get added into the text area. The editor requires a second step of clicking the image after it's uploaded; do you know whether you did that? Just curious, did you buy that vanity plate? If so, that's really cool!
  21. They typically offer cheap bring-a-friend tickets on Mother's Day and Father's Day, which are historically low attendance days. This is true. The past couple seasons, there have been special bring-a-friend offers on other select Sundays and on weekdays toward the end of August.
  22. The page is up to $689 now, after the media publicity. The money is being donated to a yet-to-be-named charity "in case the rehabilitation of Geauga Lake does not come to fruition". Cedar Fair still owns most of the site, more than 10 years after the park closed. Though I appreciate this guy's enthusiasm, even if he had the money, it would be very unlikely that they would allow an acquirer of the land to develop a new amusement park there.
  23. An acquisition by Herschend, which doesn't serve alcohol, would be particularly ironic given the legacy of Anheuser Busch ownership. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see SeaWorld and Busch Gardens go to separate buyers.
  24. That article is from awhile ago; is there an update on this concept? Oddly, no height is mentioned; doing some 5am calculations with the data provided (8s of airtime and 100mph top speed), this concept would be ~100m (320ft) tall. Probably not the prototype for what would be very new technology, but it would be cool to experience a ride with airtime on the ascent.
  25. Not a good idea. When riding coasters with lapbars or T-bars, you really want support there.
