  1. The Racer is credited with reigniting the coaster boom. Without that, the industry certainly would be set back some time. But i don't think it would be decades behind; sooner or later, someone would have done it and built a popular coaster, and the boom would be reignited then. Even then, though, KI led the pack with several firsts. First to 6 inversions isn't that important, because that would have been done by someone else eventually. But first LIM launch? That may or may not even exist in this world without Kings Island, and without it, other forms of launching such as that used on TTD and Kingda Ka might never have been invented. KI also set the bar for wooden coasters with The Beast, Without The Beast, I don't think other big woodies like the Voyage or El Toro would ever have been built. Of course we would never have had Son of Beast either, which is arguably a good thing. So here's where I see the industry in 2013 in this hypothetical world without Kings Island: Due to the delay in reigniting the coaster boom, the first hyper is about ten years old, and gigas are the hot new thing, with the world's first one opening last year. There is little interest in launched coasters, and the most die-hard enthusiasts actively seek out the few that exist. Stratas are only a dream, as the lack of suitable types of launch mechanisms combined with insufficient interest to invent a new type of launch means that the amount of land needed for the lift hill of a 400-foot-tall coaster is impractical. Wooden coasters are typically not very tall, with the tallest around 140' and not very long, with the longest around 5,000'. The fastest would be around 69 mph. Steel coasters, having never had the overall length record of The Beast to shoot for, would also be shorter, with the longest at around 6,000' long. That's my guess as to where the industry would be right now.
  2. There is nothing wrong with the wheels on Vortex. They are changed on a as needed basis. Didn't a wheel get changed during KIC day? I was on Flight of Fear with jcgoble3 while everyone else was in line for Vortex. If I remember correctly, someone told me that Vortex got held up due to a wheel being replaced. Yes, I remember that too. (For once, my memory works! )
  3. What I posted wasn't hatred, but rather was simply intended to point out the flaws in such a system. I apologize if it came across otherwise.
  4. I'd love to be there, but I'd have to buy a second club membership to get in because my GOCC membership won't, and I just can't afford that at this time.
  5. From dictionary.com: The term prosecute is not just criminal. It can be used in a general legal sense also.
  6. Another forum I'm on has something like this, and I think it's dumb. For one thing, many of the ribbons will have to do with post count, e.g., "make 100 posts". But how does that mean anything if those 100 posts are generally idiotic, trollish, or just show a total disregard for the terms of service? We shouldn't be rewarding that in any way. But the system would do so automatically. Then you have awards based on account age, e.g. "you registered one year ago. But what if that user made their account, posted three times that day, and never came back? The system would still continue to award them ribbons, which is preposterous. In short, I don't like it at all.
  7. You mean... gasp... a PRE-SHOW?! *faints* But really, I don't think that means anything important. Not everything is a clue.
  8. Never, EVER leave anything unattended and unsecured in a public place. Lockers are provided for a reason. If you don't like the price, then park your car at the Soak City gate when you arrive in the morning and use your car as a locker when you go to the waterpark, like I do. Otherwise, glad you had fun!
  9. I see what you're saying sir. I just don't think the construction managers would try and rush things just to sell the hype. I would figure they would continue on their schedule to make sure the project is done right. I'm not an expert though, and could be completely wrong on that! It's also entirely possible that they the construction crew is scheduled to go vertical between now and the 8th, and Don scheduled the announcement based on the construction schedule. Anything is possible at this point.
  10. I disagree. I think if the decision is made to remove WindSeeker, all six will be removed at once. That's the only scenario that makes sense to me since the order would probably come from Cedar Fair offices in Sandusky, not an internal decision at Knott's.
  11. Kings Island does not require a strap on any rides in the dry side of the park. I believe they are required on some water slides in Soak City, though. That said, I still recommend a strap to anyone with glasses. I wear a strap at all times when in an amusement park.
  12. Search is your friend: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/27895-cedar-point-2014/
  13. The text message from KI woke me up this morning. I read it and promptly fell back asleep because I had been up until almost 4am. I will be at the announcement come hell or high water. I like how the nighttime announcement gives truth to the statement that there may not be a day this summer when the ride is announced. Very clever, Don. The silver comb is enough to convince me that Banshee is the name. The next eight days are going to take forever.
  14. Null vote. Both have their pros and cons. From a pure thrill and enjoyment aspect, I like Intamin coasters better... when they're working. B&M coasters, on the other hand, may not as thrilling, but I can count on them to not be down when I walk up to them. Six of one, half a dozen of the other IMO.
  15. I think Gerstlauer is going to disagree with you on this one Oh no you didn't just introduce a third manufacturer to this debate.
  16. Oh. Well, that's a little dinky thing. That's nothing. The Main Midway arcade is so big I could get lost in it.
  17. There's an arcade on the Gemini midway?
  18. It's either that or continue confusing everybody with the semi-geeky discussion. At least I can laugh at the arguments over Intafail and Boring & Mediocre. You calling me a geek? I'm can rest a sure you that I am not (other than the fact that this URL stuff isn't confusing me...its pretty simple if you explain it well...which I'm not doing a good job of)....I'm just decoding. Any discussion of the intricacies of URLs, or any highly technical discussion for that matter, has a geekiness level above zero. We probably confused three-fourth of all KICers in that discussion. So I'm not calling you a geek (a badge that I proudly wear myself), but the discussion was kinda geeky. EDIT: See the post immediately above for evidence that we were either confusing or boring people with that discussion.
  19. The tallest one in the world is just over 300 feet tall. http://www.funspotattractions.com/amusement-parks/fun-spot-usa-kissimmee/things-to-do/sky-coaster/ EDIT: malem, you win. I'd love to do that myself. Just can't afford it.
  20. Good, because I was about ready to quit caring myself after reading all of that. I think it's going to be a B&M, but I don't have a strong preference either way since both have their pros and cons. It's either that or continue confusing everybody with the semi-geeky discussion. At least I can laugh at the arguments over Intafail and Boring & Mediocre.
  21. To clarify: /rides/Thrill-Rides-12-14-11-44/Banshee is where the permanent ride page would end up, yes. However, the temporary announcement site will likely use something like https://www.visitkingsisland.com/Banshee . This is because this format makes it easier for the web developers to set up multiple pages for the ride, which announcement websites often have. Does that make sense?
  22. In true KIC "decoding" fashion, post #9,000 was off-topic. On to 10,000!
  23. Please, anything but the iCoaster.
  24. We're probably going to reach 9,000 posts tonight. That's 2,000 posts in the last eight and a half days, which doesn't even count the posts in the now-locked temporary thread. I predict we'll reach 14,000 easily by the end of August if we don't have the announcement by then.
