  1. Yeah, people were packed into On Location like sardines after the announcement to buy them. I foolishly fought that crowd to buy mine. ohiocolts made the smarter move and waited for the store to empty out before going in and getting his.
  2. I've almost flipped a few times, but always avoided it. The key to not flipping is to steer the mat manually. The faster you dive into the tube, the less you can rely on the curve of the tube steering for you. To steer, pull your inside handle back slightly and push the outside handle forward slightly. The idea is to simply point the mat in the direction you want to go (i.e. around the curve). It only takes small movements to have the desired effect. This will help keep you off the side of the tube and keep you from flipping. I personally believe that it also helps you go slightly faster, but I'm not sure if that's true.
  3. I do not find Maverick's restraints uncomfortable in the least. As for head-banging, there's a simple solution to that: lean into the turn. I lean into the turn when I ride and usually don't bang my head even once.
  4. The mythical Banshee is said to be a female spirit. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banshee for more information on that. Welcome to KIC!
  5. Another great report! Thanks! You were the smart one by waiting for the crowd in On Location to disperse before trying to go in and buy a shirt. I fought the crowd sardine can immediately after the end of the announcement like the fool that I probably am.
  6. From the looks of things, Banshee has the same restraints as Gatekeeper, which is 52". So I doubt Banshee will be 48". The height requirement was not announced with the ride.
  7. Yep, sorry Beast, but Banshee indeed has a better logo.
  8. If that guy was wearing glasses and a fanny pack and looked like he hadn't shaved in several days, that was me. Sorry for ditching you so fast.

    Tweetups

Yes! And it was my first tweetup!
  10. I have been explicitly told on several occasions this year by employees that season pass holders do not need handstamps at KI. On opening day, they had an employee (possibly a supervisor) walking up and down the long handstamp line repeatedly calling out that fact. And it would make more sense for them to prefer that you use your pass for re-entry because that allows them to track how often and when people leave the park and come back, which can give them insight into how many people are picnicking in the parking lot instead of buying food in the park, for example. As for enforcing it, up until last year the computers enforced it by displaying a big red X on the screen when a pass was scanned for the second time in the same day, and when that big red X popped up, you were not allowed to enter. This year that function has been removed from KI's admissions computers so that the new policy can work. Interestingly, this new use-pass-for-re-entry policy appears to be specific to KI. At CP in June, I was required to get my hand stamped for re-entry.
  11. You should start a petition to remove Comic Sans from the site since you seem to dislike it so much Malem. What has that font ever done to you? Removing it from the list won't stop people from using it. This sentence will display in Calibri, the default font in Microsoft Word and Excel since 2007, if you have that font on your computer (and you should). This is accomplished by switching the editor to BBCode mode and typing in the font name manually.
  12. 48" is such a magical number. I'm surprised he wasn't scared of Drop Tower at all. What a true thrill-seeker. I hope you have the same experience in a few years with your youngest!
  13. Assuming my phone battery survives the day and I can get a good view, I will be shooting 1080p video of the announcement and will post it on YouTube within a week.
  14. Better yet, Tapatalk strips out all special fonts and displays everything in the same easy-to-read font. What Comic Sans? Transmitted from Wild Space via my datapad's DROID brain
  15. Glad I'm not alone in considering GateSleeper boring.
  16. I'll print them if there's enough interest, as long as I can get name badges through the printer without them jamming. If you're interested and will be at KI on Thursday, let me know so I can get an approximate count. Also see the meet-up thread: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/27900-aug-8-announcement-meet-up I'm interested in one of these name tags!
  17. What, no pictures from the top of the Eiffel Tower? Seriously, that sounds like an awesome trip. I would LOVE to travel abroad, but I can't afford it. Canyoning sounds like loads of fun! Thanks for the report!
  18. Christmas: we're getting something new and shiny, like an expensive Christmas present Fourth of July: the nightly fireworks right before the announcement (possibly a slightly bigger show than normal?) New Year's: ?????
  19. More weight actually gives the train more momentum, which causes it to lose speed at a lower rate going up the helix hill, which makes it more likely to go over. A lighter train, with several children or even empty seats, will have far less momentum and is more likely than the heavy train to roll back. I know that seems counter-intuitive, but it's true.
  20. I've never been told this year that I need the receipt for re-entry (though i was last year). I leave the receipt in the car just in case. That said, I haven't left and re-entered the parking lot yet this year, so I have yet to test it either way. Nope. Completely backward from the way they did it two years ago. Makes no sense at all (though it probably makes dollars from those who forgot to keep the receipt).
  21. *clenches fist* Come closer. I dare ya.
  22. Interesting that you were in Watkins Glen this week. NASCAR has a race there this weekend. Any plans to see any of the track activities?
  23. Actually, they did receipts last year also. That was when they stopped letting you scan your pass multiple times in one day at the tolls and made you use the receipt to re-enter. This year, I've gotten a receipt every time also.
  24. https://www.visitkingsisland.com/plan-a-visit/rider-height-requirements Scrambler has a 36" height requirement. Monster and Boo Blasters have none at all.
