"Endangered Rides"
VekomaRulz replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Schwarzkopf looping coasters and Schwarzkopf coasters in general. They are fun coasters and the looping coasters are perfect for someone wanting to try a coaster that goes upside down without many inversions. sooperdooperlooper was my first looping coaster since I knew it only had 1 loop and if I didn't like it, the rest of the ride would be ok. If all I had to choose were coasters that had 4 - 6 inversions or more, I may not have been as willing to try a looping coaster. -
Knott's Berry Farm- Boomerang closing!
VekomaRulz replied to rhyano's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I'm not sure why Invertigo doesn't have the same issues as the others. When Stinger was added to Dorney, it went through a refurbishment to supposedly prevent the same issues that it had at Great America from happening again but that didn't seem to help so it might be more than better maintenance for Invertigo which was my first though. -
Last year I went to Knott's on a Tuesday in the 3rd week of June. Lines were mostly 5 - 15 minutes for the coasters with the exception of Xcelerator (30 minutes with 1 train), Boomerang and Ghost Rider. Maybe Ghost Rider was popular because it was just reopened after the refurbishment and got up to an hour and 45 minute wait in the middle of the day. I managed to wait 20 minutes since I was near the entrance after it opened a few hours after the park opened. I really enjoyed the park. The log flume is my favorite after the 2 US Splash Mountain rides. Voyage To The Iron Reef was a lot of fun even though I prefer dark rides that aren't all screens. The stage coach was also something different but very low capacity with only 1 stage coach running. I liked Xcelerator a lot more than Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka (and even Storm Runner). Silver Bullet although not nearly as good as Banshee was still a great coaster, Ghostrider was way smoother than I was expecting and Montezooma's Revenge was something different and I always like coasters that go upside down without over the should restraints. Jaguar and Coast Rider were fun for family coasters as well. I didn't get to try Pony Express since it was closed all day.

Knott's Berry Farm- Boomerang closing!

I think it's because they have some major reliability issues. Invertigo doesn't seem to have the issues the other models have. Two Face at Six Flags America had that incident where hydraulic fluid got on riders. Stinger has been nothing but trouble since it was installed. When it was at Great America, riders were stuck for close to 5 hours on the lift and since being at Dorney, riders have been stuck on the lift for over an hour at least half a dozen times, it has gotten stuck with riders in between the loop and 2nd lift and there was a similar incident with what happened to Two Face on opening day 2014 that caused the ride to be closed the entire season. Even in 2015 and 2016, the ride still has way more downtime than any other coaster in the park. -
Miss Adeventure Falls opens

The slide looks a lot better than Gangplank Falls, that was ok but probably my least favorite family raft slide. I saw this new slide under construction when I was there in December and was a little disappointed I missed it by a few months but the other slides made up for it, especially Crush N Gusher. -

Cedar Fair Coaster Trends

I'm hoping that after all the problems with Stinger, that is the end of used major rides for Dorney. A new coaster won't be added anytime soon according to this article: http://www.mcall.com/news/local/parkland/mc-dorney-park-new-rides-20160818-story.html -
Although I would rather not see VR at all on rides, at least on a Drop Tower you aren't stuck on the brake run for 10 minutes with the headset waiting for the other train to dispatch. It would probably work even better at a park with S&S Towers where one or more towers was for VR and the rest without VR.

Fast Lane Plus Season Pass
VekomaRulz replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I wonder how limited it really is. Last year it never sold out at Dorney or Valleyfair. I bought it last year at Dorney when it was $99.99 for half the season. There really wasn't much of an effect on lines because so few people were using it especially on the ride side of the park. At a more crowded park I could see it being an issue though. I really bought it for Wildwater Kingdom and it was nice to be able to skip a 30 - 45 minute line for some more popular waterslides. -
I don't like that water parks and fun option was also removed as an add on by itself. Now you have to buy a park hopper and add water parks and fun as the park hopper plus for an extra $90. Even a 5 day base ticket without any add ons is almost $75 a day. I know it's not a fair comparison with how different the park are but it makes me appreciate how much of a value Cedar Fair and Six Flags season passes are.

Extra Magic Hour days to add to crowds, people with park hoppers will enter later in the day especially if the other parks are closed a lot earlier. I would save Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as a possible 4th FastPass option since it is less likely to be gone compared to other rides like 7 Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain and Peter Pan. You can book the FastPass in any combination you want, not everyone has to be on the same reservation. Peter Pan has one of the longest lines in the park because of the low capacity and it appeals to all ages. The problem seems to be that Fastpass is taken at a much higher priority compared to past. I heard it was something like 70% Fastpass, 30% standby but when I was there in December that didn't seem to be the case. When using Fastpass for some rides they would take 30 or 40 people from the Fastpass line and take 1 or 2 groups from the standby line and then go right back to the Fastpass line. Something else you can do is book a Fastpass for someone and they don't want to ride, someone else can use their Magic Band to use the Fastpass. So you could book 2 people for 1 coaster, 2 people for another coaster and have the same 2 people use both set of Fastpasses. I think everyone in the room has to be on the same dining plan and everyone in the room has to get the dining plan if 1 person gets it. I have used both the regular dining plan and quick service dining plan and don't really think it's worth it since you have to order the more expensive items to get your money's worth and during a quick service meal, if you decide you don't feel like ordering a $15 meal and would rather have the $8 pizza, you are probably losing money. I also thought it was too much food and the refillable mugs that I guess are built into the cost aren't really great since they only work in the hotel food courts. I would look at some menus at a few of the places and see what you would order and add up the cost and if paying out of pocket would be less than the dining plan.

Cedar Fair Coaster Trends

I have only ridden 1 (Superman clone) and they are fun except I don't like the loading system with a single station. While the other train is loading and you are stuck on the brake run, your head it tilted down and it's really uncomfortable after a minute or two. -

I didn't realize how long it's been since some of the parks in the chain got a non kiddie coaster coaster, 2007 for Valleyfair and 2008 for Worlds of Fun. -
Adventure Express, 3/5 Backlot Stunt Coaster, 4/5 Banshee, 5/5 Beast, 5/5 Bat (current), 4/5 Diamondback, 5/5 Flight of Fear, 4/5 Flying Ace Aerial Chase, 3/5 Racer, 3/5 Vortex, 3/5 Woodstock Express, 3/5

Are Water Rides Dying Out?
VekomaRulz replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I don't like how parks have been removing traditional log flumes over the past 10 or so years. They are one of my favorite ride types after coasters and dark rides and it's fun to get cooled off but not soaked on a hot day. Even though I like rapids and splashdown boats, I usually avoid them at parks because I don't want to be walking around in soaked clothes hours later unless it's at a park where those rides are close to an attached waterpark and you can wear bathing suits on the ride. -
KIC Off Season Poll Series 2016 Week V: What is the best B&M Coaster in Ohio?
VekomaRulz replied to BB1's topic in KI Polls
I have ridden all of them except Valravn and I am choosing Diamondback although Banshee and Raptor are really close. B&M Hypers are one of my favorite coaster designs and Diamondback has a great layout. -
KIC Off Season Poll Series 2016 Week VI: Should Cedar Fair Buy More Parks?
VekomaRulz replied to BB1's topic in KI Polls
Yes they have problems with neighbors. Talon and Hydra have sand in the supports so the coasters run without almost any noise. The park wanted to have daily fireworks years ago and residents forced them to only have fireworks a few times a year. Neighbors also were concerned with the noise from Possessed and the park wasn't allowed to build into the water again after Hercules was removed since the water is right near some houses. -
Cedar Point (+ Other CF Parks) May Change All Season Drink Program
VekomaRulz replied to Tr0y's topic in Kings Island
I hope they offer both options as well. I have considered getting one of the souvenir bottles in past years but always decide against it because I don't like the idea of leaving it in a station where it can get tampered with or stolen for the rides that allow items left in the stations and to get a locker kind of eliminates any cost savings from bringing the bottle. For now I just get a free cup of water with my meal but would pay for season long drinks if they offered them in a disposable cup. -
KIC Off Season Poll Series 2016 Week VI: Should Cedar Fair Buy More Parks?
VekomaRulz replied to BB1's topic in KI Polls
I agree they should fix or take care of the parks already in the chain. Even though I liked the 4 Cedar Fair parks I have been to, I wouldn't want them to buy Hersheypark for many reasons. Dorney is in a tough spot being almost in between Hershey and Great Adventure and with the water park being the main draw, the rides don't attract guests as much as the other 2 parks. Cedar Creek Flyers the most recent addition has never had more than a 1 cycle wait in any of my trips to the park. Opening weekend 2012 when Stinger was added, I waited 10 minutes. In almost any other park a new coaster added especially a lower capacity coaster like a boomerang would be at least an hour wait when it first opened and it was the same low crowds with Hydra, 20 minute wait the day it opened. -
Stinger at Dorney for Laser (should be easy since the fair company that bought Laser is selling it). Green Lantern at Great Adventure for American Thunder from Six Flags St Louis
-
If it is like Great Adventure, the Batman and Superman passes also include ERT on the rides of the same name at various times throughout the season.
